I've had both. The kitchenaid required multiple $$$ repairs over a very short period of two years in addition to rusting parts and broken wheels. The Bosch has been problem free and we generally do two or more loads every day. It does an amazing job cleaning. Very satisfied!
We bought a Bosch top of the line because it was the quickest. That was what my wife was most interested in. We run it once a day on average and it is about fifteen years old and still going fine. Some of the plastic parts have broken but nothing that prevents it from functioning fully.
Took the economy route and went with the Bosch 100 Plus model. $499 on sale at Best Buy last month. No third rack but the included silverware basket works just fine. The Plus model has an adjustable second rack that allows you to adjust for tall items in the first or second rack. The 100 has all the same wash functions as the top model except for one cycle. It baskets don't have the adjustable tines, but I've not found that to limit what I can wash. It has the leak sensor which will stop the fill of unit, however it won't pump out the tray where the leak sensor is located. All in all I've not been disappointed with my 100 Plus and really think for money spent I got the Bosch quality and a more reasonable price.
We just got a Bosch 800 Series with handle. The 60-minute cycle cleans better than our old Whirlpool Gold Series dishwasher. After the first wash was done, it beeped to let us know the cycle was done. We made the mistake of opening the door. THE HEAT - WOW. We closed the door and waited another hour before opening it again. The heat was gone, and everything was super clean and dry. We paid just under $1,000 for the Bosch. (on sale)
As a kitchen and laundry appliance contractor for 30 years, I will strongly recommend the Bosch over the Kitchen Aid. Typically, the Bosch will give you 10+ years of trouble free service, while the Kitchen Aid (made by Whirlpool) will have circulation pump issues, soap dispenser and control panel issues, usually within the first 5 years of use.
What you just described here is true. I used to own Kitchen Aid, and had all the problems you just described here on two models. Even a Maytag dishwasher also owned by Whirlpool has a better dishwasher than Kitchen Aid. Kitchen Aid once was the king of all Cadillacs for appliances. Kitchen Aid is also now Owned by Whirlpool. I remember when I was a kid, and my mother had a Kitchen Aid that said on it "Kitchen Aid by Hobart". In the 1980's I had a Kitchen Aid, and it was part of Insinkerator. Now it is Whirlpool. Whirlpool only makes good refrigerators. Their other appliances are cheaply made.
I can attest to this. Went through TWO Kitchen Aid dishwashers within 3 years in a house that was used once a month. Switched to Bosch and it's running strong 100% reliable. Whirlpool is absolute junk.
I can certainly second what you said about kitchenaid. I have a kitchenaid dishwasher for almost 5 years and it died. I need to replace the pump / motor which is the most expensive part of the d/w. I am planning to go for a new Bosch after reviewing positive reviews from most of the forums
My Kitchen Aid bought in 2016 also needed a new pump motor. The part was about $225.00. I ordered the pump motor and installed it myself. The pump motor was held in place by three twist clamps, and two electrical connections. I removed the dishwasher from the built in kitchen cabinet to do the job. After the pump motor went, it then was the control board inside the door for another $120.00 for the part, and the installation was done by me again. Then after that, the new pump motor goes again. I said I am done with Kitchen Aid, and bought a Maytag. Finally one that actually works, and was cheaper to buy than the Kitchen Aid. I do not understand why there is a difference in quality since both Kitchen Aid and Maytag are owned by the same company, Whirlpool. All of my appliances are Maytag.
We had a problem with our Bosch and I spent more time arguing with Bosch about whether I actually bought a Bosch dishwasher than getting any help. DO NOT buy the top of the line Bosch machine. Buy the middle one. The layout is better, it works better and is just as quiet.
The Bosch rack layout is not great for deep bowls or thicker plates. Generally, the KA racks are vastly superior, not even looking at the awesome third rack. I'm super happy with my KA 604. It cleans and dries well, looks great, and is very flexible.
I had to replace my Bosch 500 series. Did clean properly. Had the tech out several times and replaced the pump. Bought the 800 series. When I installed it I invited the water supply. 😂 Guess what I found. The inlet was blocked. 🤕😠🤣. Yes, the issue was the water inlet. That is what I get for not troubleshooting myself. Well, I ended up with a 800 series washer and the guy I sold the 500 got a cheap working Bosch.
Wow was I disappointed with lifecycle expectations looking at dishwashers this weekend. My 24 year old GE just died. It was all plastic. Admittedly we only run it three times a week. I figured a new stainless steel one should be good for 10 or 12 years. The sales people at the appliance store said they only expect economy dishwashers to last five years, and the premium ones to last 8 -10 years?!?! I don't need all the wi-fi bells and whistles nor the 55 optional settings. "Pots and pans" or "normal" settings will do just fine, thanks. Am I just paying for a bright shiny computer interface instead of a solid pump motor and good seal around the door? Frustrated for sure. Sigh.
BOSCH i was really wanting the KA because of the 3rd tray with separate water jets, got the BOSCH with crystal dry---ABSOLUTELY AMAZING i don't have to worry of plastic drying or where to place plastic silverware on top tray always spotless 80% of my washing i use the 60 min when done i just open the door to dry. standard wash SOOOO quiet it needs a red light to tell you when its running WILL ONLY BUY BOSCH NOW. AMAZINGLY CLEAN EVERY TIME.
My 19 year old Kenmore Elite made by Bosch just bit the dust. I loved that thing. Looking for a replacement is frustrating because nothing that I have seen can compare. All I want is a stainless steel tub, an adjustable upper rack for when I have large pots in the bottom, two baskets to hold all of my flatware, and a lot of room for dishes and those pots and pans. None of these new ones look like they will hold as much as I could get into mine. And although a third rack for putting all of those smaller items on sounds like a good idea, it just takes up too much space and seems like it would block the wash and rinse water for the two main racks. I need to make a decision soon because I'm not fond of doing all of my dishes by hand. At least I am able to put my hand-washed dishes into the racks of my broken dishwasher to drip-dry, so that I don't have to have them dry on towels on my counter.
Check out the ikea dishwasher range. They have hight adjustable upper racks and you might consider simply removing the third rack if you need the headroom.
@@YaleAppliance1 That's true. My brother's shop handles out-of-warranty repairs and the KitchenAids do really well until the warranty is gone. The bottom-of-the-line Amana dishwashers, built by the same company (Whirlpool) have a better service record at the three year mark. That's sad.
I despise cleaning filters and having to pre-clean dishes and pots and pans. There are replacement parts available to keep our two GE Potscrubbers from the 1970s/early 1980s going indefinitely. No pre-rinsing, no pre-cleaning, no fighting filters (they actually clean their filters). I'll stick with them. When customers ask me what I think they should get, I always recommend a Bosch 300 series. My brother's shop repairs far too many KitchenAid just out of warranty. They're not bad, just, for that price, you deserve much better durability. As to cycles, the only time we ever use anything but the same one is on holidays when both dishwashers are running. I can't imagine any real person uses more than one or two offered by the bottom-of-the-line Amana (the same dishwasher in a lot of ways).
Reading reviews on sites like HD, there are a ton of complaints about the KitchenAids leaking and rusting, and the Bosch's not finishing their cycles and not lasting more than a couple years. What are your thoughts on that?
"Tons", you have to think about how many units are sold. When someone gets a lemon they are quick to report it online, creating a sample bias. It can and does happen, but its rare.
We bought a Bosch 800 in 2019 and are now looking for a replacement. It's never dried the dishes well, and it recently started leaving a large amount of rinse aid on the dishes on the bottom rack (so we end up rinsing the dishes by hand). The middle rack is somehow out of alignment with the back of the dishwasher and needs to be wiggled to be pushed in so the door would close. We've tried adjusting it up and down, but it hasn't helped. Given the positive reviews for reliability, we're surprised it's started failing so soon. Looking at a KitchenAid.
Our 15+ year old Bosch that we really liked finally died and we replaced it with a Bosch 800. The 800 sucks in comparison to the old one. Doesn't get dishes nearly as clean. Wine glasses come out looking dirty/filmy (they were perfect in the old Bosch). The 3rd rack doesn't get very clean since there is no separate sprayer for it. I don't know if it's all the latest environmental requirements or what, but the new Bosch is a huge disappointment for us.
That's unfortunate and I've heard this a lot. Apparently the 500 Bosch series are better. I picked out a $600 whirlpool for my parents and we love it so far. There is no sprayer up top for the third rack either but somehow soiled utensils come out spotless. I put a large fork used to stir seasoned ground beef right on top without rinsing it, came out polished.
You guys test a lot of dishwashers!! Recently my family got a brand new Samsung dishwasher, and sadly... it pooped out on us😭thinking about getting a bosch... but do guys you have any other recommendations thats possibly better? (That wont break in 10 years tops😅)
I had a Bosch 2 drawer washer $1,400 in 2002, but so bad in function, I swear I would never buy the brand again. Now I’m using kitchen Aid, I’m satisfied.
I have had both. Bosche is quieter and better quality, the Bosche was easier to fix (plastic rack, wheels, etc) myself. Lasted 14 years. Bosche had some quirky operational sequences. The Kitchen aid was easier to operate but was a little clunkier. Both cleaned about the same. Either will do.
Yeah I bought a Kitchenaid 39 dB dishwasher for my previous condo. It was only 39 dB when it was OFF. My current 42 dB Bosch is much quieter. So Whirlpool is lying about their noise ratings.
Bosch is a German company. Profits pour offshore to fund wiener schnitzels for executives in Stuttgart. Kitchenaid is owned by Whirlpool, an American company.
Bought my first Kitchenaid dishwasher 2 years ago. While it cleans good, my complaint is that it's too quiet. This might sound silly but I'd rather it use more water and higher water pressure because the wash cycle is pretty long and sometimes I still smell dishwashing pod soap on the dishes. I've resorted to just dropping the dishwasher pod on the bottom of the dishwasher so it starts being used in the pre-wash cycle. Other than that it's been a quality dishwasher.
It's a federal regulation, that's why the new washers take long. There is a quick wash option. The trick is to use prewash and run your tap hot before your washer, if you want to use this option for best results (otherwise it will leave some grime).
I bought my Bosch 300 series about a year ago, replacing a 13 yo Kitchen Aid. I hate it. Because of the insulation, the interior is noticeably smaller than the Kitchen Aid. It slurps up rinse aids. The tines on both the bottom rack (going front to back) and top racks don’t line up with other tines so longer items can’t be placed along the width axis on the bottom nor can small plates or bowls be placed upright in a second row in the top rack making the fold down tines useless. There is no reason not to have the tines line up. If you want to use the utensil rack, along with the 3rd rack, it’s pretty tiny. And now when the rinse aid reservoirs runs low, I get dark specks adhering to dishes, especially plastic. Bosch does not respond to email queries made through their website. Even on extra dry, plastic does not dry. You have to open the dishwasher after cycle is complete so plates air dry. Since I’m usually in bed that doesn’t happen and I have to set plastic ware in the dish drainer to dry. I spent $900 on this annoying dishwasher, based on reviews, and I’m looking to replace it because it’s annoying.
We have $600 whirlpool and dishes come out bone dry with only air dry and no heat option. Tops of cups on second rack can have some moisture but leaving the door ajar for several minutes fixes that. Plastic not drying is partly due to the material itself, plastic doesn't get hot like glass, metal and ceramic, so it doesn't dry well.
@@Ann-mq2te you mean 800 series Bosch? I'm looking at those. Had a Kenmore for 20 years & my 18 year old kitchenaid just died. I have a lot of tall cooking things, so the kitchenaid was good - I could fold down racks & move the top rack so they fit. I've been going back & forth between Bosch 800 series & the Kitchenaid 640. As soon as I'm sold on one, I read or watch a youtube that talks me into the other one. 😆
What’s with the noise fettish? How bout performance in scrubbing? Solid mount not bosch wobble. basket was fine for silverware what’s with this tray bs?
I'm with this guy. I don't care if it sounds like a gravel truck if it gets my dishes clean. What dishwasher can get a pyrex casserole dish clean, thats what I need. Not a whispering work of art with 15 racks. I need one setting, clean. Thats it.
In several videos, she encourages everyone to not focus on sound when you get 44 dBa, or lower as you won’t notice the difference. Most of the videos talk about washing and drying. The videos show you can get both a good washer quiet as a whisper.
I went with the KitchenAid because I previously had a KitchenAid. Only reason I got a new one was because my dog got into it and broke it. 8yo. Was working just fine. The choice was between Bosch and KitchenAid this time again. Although the appliance saleswoman tried to sell me on more expensive (and better quality) dishwashers by Cove and also Jenn-Air. I read a lot of reviews and my take was that KA was the better option.
My Miele just died and I do not want to spend any more $$$$ for 5 years of usage. I am resigned to Change dishwashers and washing machines and driers every 3 to 5 years now. So something less than $1000 will do fine my last Washing Machine this year cost me $1600 and that was because delivery time was a day instead of a week and with a household of four with three working adults that would not be sendible to wait. I see a lot of negative reviews about all dishwashers including the Bosch abd while thst was a preference over the GE I need reliability and performance over wifi etc
we installed quite a few of the Bosch in our rental properties, but rarely made it past 2 years without pump failures & leaks. Samsungs were a nightmare & the kichenaid never cleaned as well as the LG’s we now ONLY install.
Both used to be premium brands at a premium price. Now, both contain many parts made of Chineseium alloy parts. Neither are worth the price and are expensive to repair.
I own both. I much prefer kitchenaid can turn off the heat cycle, doesn’t melt plastic. The racks on the kitchenaid are more useful anything can go anywhere. Much easier to load. Both clean the same, excellent.
Had to send the Bosch 800 back because it wouldn't fit the cabinet (new kitchen in progress). Tech said Bosch are taller than other machines/brands. We've got 33 5/8" height inside the cabinet and the tech said we need a minimum of 34 1/16" tall. Looking at KitchenAid specs to see if we fit one versus raising the cabinets.
KitchenAid is the worst dishwasher we ever had. Lasted maybe 2 years, before it started leaking; replaced diverter. Then the pump broke; replaced the pump assembly. Now 4th year in, this thing can't wash anything. Dishes come out filthy, dirty, oily. Have to rewash everything by hand! We had a whirlpool, builder grade dishwasher before, worked OK for nearly 8 years. Never purchasing this cheap, Chinese grade brand again! Have Bosch on order!
Imported stuff is too small and i don't trust that the warranty is any good. Better of trying to offer up an enitre Kitchen install at this point actually.
Kitchen aids are cheap until the second year. They are full of cheap plastic parts that fail. The replacements fail too and they cost a lot of money. Do yourself a favor and stay away from the new kitchen aid
I've had both. The kitchenaid required multiple $$$ repairs over a very short period of two years in addition to rusting parts and broken wheels. The Bosch has been problem free and we generally do two or more loads every day. It does an amazing job cleaning. Very satisfied!

Most appliance service people worry about one thing: Can they get paid more. First year service is less than 1% different between the two brands.

OK....Miele, Bosch, and then everyone else does a pretty good job
❤❤❤ your review
I went with the KitchenAid because I previously had a KitchenAid. Only reason I got a new one was because my dog got into it and broke it. 8yo. Was working just fine. The choice was between Bosch and KitchenAid this time again. Although the appliance saleswoman tried to sell me on more expensive (and better quality) dishwashers by Cove and also Jenn-Air. I read a lot of reviews and my take was that KA was the better option.
Like it?
Well done.
What about reliability. My 3 year old kitchen aide just broke..won’t do anything and is beeping non stop..arggggg
First year reliability is the same
My Miele just died and I do not want to spend any more $$$$ for 5 years of usage.
We publish reliability....LG was the best followed by Thermador (basic Bosch), KitchenAid and Miele
we installed quite a few of the Bosch in our rental properties, but rarely made it past 2 years without pump failures & leaks. Samsungs were a nightmare & the kichenaid never cleaned as well as the LG’s we now ONLY install.
What LG is that??
To me Bosch feels so cheap inside the racks seem thin and want to twist pulling them out. And the silverware holder seems so cheap
I bought a kitchen aid 200 series over any of the Bosch because I didn’t like the way the door felt when it closes.
The 100 series is light. The 300-Benchmark feature a heavier door
I’ve owned Bosch and Kitchenaid. Neither were great like the LG that I currently have.
Fits normal counter height must be a problem
Kitchenaid is not a product I personally would not buy again.
You talk about the Bosch 800 series but not the KitchenaAid 604? seriously Apples to Apples please.
Bosch all day long. So much better.
so it is cheaper and better to get kitchenaid 604 vs Bosch more Expensive 800 series
yes...by $200-400 depending on when you buy
KitchenAid is the worst dishwasher we ever had. Lasted maybe 2 years, before it started leaking; replaced diverter. Then the pump broke; replaced the pump assembly. Now 4th year in, this thing can't wash anything. Dishes come out filthy, dirty, oily. Have to rewash everything by hand! We had a whirlpool, builder grade dishwasher before, worked OK for nearly 8 years. Never purchasing this cheap, Chinese grade brand again! Have Bosch on order!
We have a kitchenaid it is trash. Getting a Bosch 800
Omg this woman is beautiful.
Imported stuff is too small and i don't trust that the warranty is any good. Better of trying to offer up an enitre Kitchen install at this point actually.
Bosch made in Carolina
Kitchen aids are cheap until the second year. They are full of cheap plastic parts that fail. The replacements fail too and they cost a lot of money. Do yourself a favor and stay away from the new kitchen aid
Do you have an idiot’s guide to making sure you buy a dishwasher that fits
Asking for a friend
Yeah....dishwashers should fit. They are either 18 or 24 inches wide...Only exception is ADA
Bosch warranty was worthless for me. I lost $550!
Not surprisng
Both duds.
Kitchen aid sucks
sometimes
