Good stuff sir, this does indeed look a lot like a speckled kingsnake. I've never heard of this western whipsnake before and appreciate seeing these exotic european critters. I think I have a shot at seeing wall lizards as there is an invasive subspecies in British Columbia, Canada right next to Washington State where I live. I guess the wall lizards have already invaded a few spots in the midwestern united states and east coast as well. I really hope its a bright green variety, hah!
Awesome finds Fred! I know very little about the wildlife of France and Spain, so thanks for sharing!
Yeah because most herpers I know are American even I myself tend to know mor about foreign herps, than the European ones.
That’s interesting. Any more trips planned for the near future?
Man, you need to do more "non herp" trips. lol. some sweet finds in this one. Amazing how much that looks like a speckled king.
Yeah, as is usually the case I was pretty lucky being at the right place at the right time.
Good trip!!

Yes thank you. Is it also the same subspecies?
Nice finds. Be careful as french law does not allow catching any reptile or amphibian ;)
