I know this video has now been around for a while, but having just watched it again, and it made me smile even more this time round, I do love watching these videos about wildlife we have here in the U.K. so thank you for doing it👍 You are so fortunate to spot these amazing snakes so often. I’ve only ever seen a dead Adder when I was on Woodbury common, 30 odd years ago. Being in Surrey this weekend though, and close to some beautiful Commons, I think I’ll go out for a bimble and you never know, I might be lucky enough to get a glimpse of one🙏
It's the start of Spring here in Queensland, Australia and the snakes are out and about looking for food & mates. We don't have to go far to see them, in fact they come into our gardens and even sometimes make it into our houses! So far I've seen a carpet python, two red belly black snakes and one eastern brown, (which is a worry as these are the second most venomous snake in the World)!
This is about as venomous as it gets here, when it comes to snakes. 50 years I have never seen one and I live near rural fields and streams.. A lot of the farming land is being developed. It is disgusting, as it was preserved greenbelt land. I feel sorry for the wildlife and adders are a protected species.
I saw a nice melanistic one there a few years back, but yes, those vast heathlands are much harder sites to look for adders than where we are in this video.
I found one around March this year and it was most likely just out of hibernation as I managed to catch it and free handle it, I used a stick to grab it but then it was so chilled and just so placid.
I fished a lot as a kid and as a teenager I used to walk miles through fields and over farmers gates, you name it, I walked through it all lol. Just thinking about how far I walked to lakes and rivers and ponds etc, plus the amount of gear id carry doing it, makes my back hurt and I feel sick, god knows how I used to do it lol. Anyway I used to see so many grass snakes and some were massive actually, I was lucky enough to handle quite a few by catching them in my large carp net but only shortly and then I let them go but I also saw many adders, I was not to bothered about them at the time and used to glance at them basking, perhaps a few seconds as some were very pretty to look at and of course I saw them far less than grass snakes and newts etc, but then id walk on as my mind was only zoned in to fishing. I wish I could see them now as id have such a higher appreciation and admiration of having the chances to see such beautiful things
No. Puff adders are in savanna areas of Africa and western Arabia. They are responsible for more deaths than any other African snake. If you are bitten by an adder in England you should definitely seek medical attention but deaths are very rare.
As far as adders are concerned, pretty safe. But look where you are putting your feet. They'll disappear rather than confront a person. They don't want any beef. But dogs are at risk because they don't understand that. And remember, we do also have big cats in the uk!
@@S.TradesI think that’s the same thing with most, if not all, rattlesnakes encountered in the Arizona desert where I live. Ours, too, have that handy ‘early warning system’ of rattling!
Great video. Please be careful about giving location away as not everybody has you good intentions. Whats your estimate on the number of adders in that area. As you well know there are quite a few island population ie small populations that are interbreeding with each other and ending up with weak bloodlines.
I cringed when I saw a magazine advert for an expensive car with the exact geo location of one of NZs rarest geckos once. Scientists were publishing the exact coordinates down to pretty much the tree that they photographed it in (or on) Having said that they are now identifying overseas illegally collected smuggled geckos with distinctive patterns from field documented hi res digital photo pattern databases. People were previously claiming they had bred them, when it was almost certainly not the case, although some have been bred legally from v.long held Zoo stock.
An excellent video, I'm twice the age of you guys and have yet to see an adder ever. I really need to up my game!
Yes. I once saw 10 in one day.
They move so smoothly. Wow!

HOUNSLOW HEATH...i used to play a lot there when i was young...i am 79 this year....HAPPY BIRTHDAY!...thanks for a great vid.
This is Hounslow Heath. Walk it everyday with my dogs. In fact today I saw another one of these beauties
Are they quite common in Hounslow Heath?
My favorite reptile for 20 years
Belated birthday greetings. Great video. Inspiring as always and enthusiasm is contagious
Thank you my friend.

beautiful snakes. Great video
happy birthday, amazing to see so many melanistic individuals!
where in London is it ?
Happy birthday been here since 54 subs can’t wait to see your channel grow
What a fantastic birthday present, great film.
Whereabouts was this? Is there a best specific location and time of year to spot them within Greater London?
...Is it Hounslow Heath?
No
Yeah is Hounslow heath
Cant wait to see some more adder vids this year !!!! Ps: happy birthday
Thank you man, got lots of filming trips planned, just need the weather.
Metal sheets/metal bin lids sprayed black heat up really quick, the snakes hide underneath them, and they love them.
Great footage, well done.
Happy birthday. Hopefully we both have a good year of snakes
Great filming
Happy birthday, I often go to the New Forest, prime adder habitat ,but never been as lucky as you guys.

Oh wow you can see snakes that soon in the UK? Awesome ^_^
Happy birthday man. I love Euro vipers and hope to see some some day. Snakes should start coming out here in the Midwest United States very soon.
Happy birthday, mate.

Great video. Are they out in August or is it too late in the year?
Adders this early in the year? That's mad man, been keeping an eye out here in Wales but nothing so far
adders were photographed during warm days in both December and January this year, late feb is normal for emergence
My birthday also! No wonder we share an interest in reptiles!
was expecting to see adders climbing up the lions in Trafalgar square
lol 😂
Saw a black morph in Birmingham yesterday. Scrubland in industrial area next to railway embankment close to city centre
Good stuff, I haven't been there for a while, so nice to see this.
Which area are you referring to?
Wow....i have never seen one. Im amazed.
February seems a bit early for snakes but perhaps in a large conurbation it is a few degrees milder than in open countryside.
In Feb. Wow. That's crazy!
Late Feb, even in snow is normal emergence time in Scotland
Love god is an astronaut. You got good taste, kid
They are cool little snakes
Is this the Puff-Adder?

Very belated happy birthday!
Happy birthday
HAPPY BIRTHDAY 🎉!
Great Vid Boss 🔥
Thanks boss. I hope to come stay at your place this spring or definitely summer, last time was so good.
I had no idea there were this many venomous snakes in the wilds of England. So how dangerous is it to tramp about the fields?
Sightings of These creatures are extremely rare due to their evasive nature of being timid and shy so it’s almost completely safe
@@raregrimebeats1352 That’s good news for you.

My b'day too
happy bday bruv
They are hard to see .
I also found a black Adder on my birthday! (In Dover). Would love to know where to find in London but I bet thats a secret...
Hounslow Heath
Trent Park London
hissssss!!!!!!
Probably this isn’t industrial melanism at all.
I didn't know there were snakes in England. I thought it was too cold for snakes.
Canada here. We have many types of snakes including three species of rattlesnake.
Nooooo! Adders are the most northerly found snakes. They don't lay eggs and have live young.
According to a study in Scandinavia, the black adders have a venom 3x stronger than a normal adder.
Great video. Please be careful about giving location away as not everybody has you good intentions. Whats your estimate on the number of adders in that area. As you well know there are quite a few island population ie small populations that are interbreeding with each other and ending up with weak bloodlines.
Thanks, but I don’t think I gave any locations away in this video

More people die of bee stings than adder bites. They are simply not that venomous.
Vipers family
My Great Grandfather died from an adder bite in 1906
Rip 😢
How old was he? Dying from adder bite, is rare.
He was 49yrs old.
Please tell me of an adder that is not venomous? 😂
Ladder and bladder
Camera work not up to reasonable standard, not worth watching.
Happy birthday july 1st 2024
I was bitten by king cobra 🐍
cant stand snakes,
Let's hope they prefer the non English/British.
Happy birthday
