Jenner made it his dying mission to find a way to stop the virus, and to see this man now so passionately convinced that there's no stopping it is frightening. This finale totally set the tone for the series: no hope, no chance at civilization, just survival until the day comes you're no longer grateful to be alive.

Life is precious. Enjoy it while we can.
I find it interesting they used it specifically for season 7 when there were other moments he could have felt that way. I guess it was because despite all the trauma that was the first time Rick felt hopeless
After the first season, the show ceased to have a story. In the first season, it was all about the outbreak, it's aftermath, people joining forces, and making their way to the CDC. There was actually a goal with momentum behind it. Subsequent seasons just got really dull. It's literally the same shit over and over again. It's just them traveling place to place, looking for shelter and trying to survive. And that's it. There's no plot besides that. And the fact that they just keep killing off characters simply for shock value got really annoying.

When I was in the army we were briefed on thermobaric bombs in NBC training (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical) and after I left the room I felt sick to my stomach in a way I've neve4 felt since. I remember all I could think was "are there no limits to how disgusting people can be? What kind of monster even devises something so barbaric?"
I get chills from this scene, the music, the tone, the scary freaking *where the greatest destruction of structures and life is desired*, hell the camera angles even
So… the producers of walking dead, hated the CDC episodes, I still don’t understand why. These are some of the best episodes period. This particular clip is one of the best in the entire series. Seasons 1, 2 and 3 are awesome and then the series took a dive, can I make an exception to some of the governors episodes and some of the Negan episodes, which absolutely cannot be disputed are great as well! The junkyard is just that! The best soundtracks and best music were in seasons 1, 2 &3.
@@ethulwulf5351 i believe it would be set on the viral and biological samples in the building but as for exploding the building with a thermoberic reaction it seems a little extreme
@@historicalshadow1454 exactly so unless they outfitted the building after the infection it wouldn't do that Now not to say they wouldn't have contingency protocols in place to prevent containment failures of the viruses
@@historicalshadow1454 let's be honest we don't know what they would do to places like cdc. I don't think they would want or even let us know their real contingency plan in case of something as server as the walker disease is. Heck I don't believe they'll ever tell the public what kind of samples of who knows what that the cdc is in possession of for fear that the public would disintegrate because of the sheer horror of some of the things that they have that exist.
This was one of those pivotal episodes that so many people forgot about, and I don't know why. This is the episode where the audience discovers EVERYBODY ON EARTH is infected with the virus. Full stop. So people whining about the insanity of camouflaging oneself with infected blood can stop it. These characters are infected. ALL OF THEM. Hence the title 'Walking Dead.' It's simply a matter of the virus overwhelming a bodies defenses. Get sick, there's a chance. Get stabbed, there's a chance. Get bit,..there's a really good chance. Death = you're a walker.
The crazy thing is, you remember this scene like it always happened but I swear this scene never happened in season 1. The way they found out was when Rick suddenly for no reason whatsoever, mentions at the prison that everyone is infected, right after killing Shawn in season 2. This is actually my first time watching this and at first, I thought it was a late season flashback episode from after me dropping the series. It sort of feels like I just jumped into a different dimension because now I'm just here wondering how the entire group got out and even more importantly, how is it that they forgot that this man said that everyone is already infected. They must have, considering their shocked expressions in finding out at the End of season 2.
@@ghostbl33d65They didn't forget. He only whispered it to Rick on their way out of the cdc and Rick never told anyone else until he had to at the end of season 2 because people were questioning how Shane turned.
Even if I had survived up until this point, which would prove I have a chance of continuing to do so, I'd still take Jenner up on his offer. Not all groups are as lucky as Rick and his were. What if your ammo runs out and you're forced to get up close and personal? You're looking at an increased risk of being bitten just there. The food runs out and most areas are picked clean. I'd eat a bullet before I starved. To say nothing of hostile survivors and the horrors they could inflict on you. No, I'd sooner die with the last hope of the old world. Painless and vapourised before I could even process it. If that makes me weak then so be it. But I'd sooner avoid being torn apart or coming back as a monster.
I think of this scene after learning about implosions and the Titan crew. Legit the same thing. When a sub implodes the air does the same thing till the water puts it out
It could very well be) After all, Daryl's face in this moment gets on the record. Or they can show Jenner's tape and Daryl will say, "Damn, I knew him." 🔥
I dont usually get scared or jump but the beginning of the video shook my soul hard when I heard that alarm. I can only imagine how everyone felt when it went off during this tense situation.
I keep thinking alot why he is giving up ? After seen other seasons , i believed in him like he studied the human nature when they fight for sirvivabality and what ugly thing they will mad to survives. Like he knows the world changed and the human will change to become much worse than walkers. Everyone in this lab will stay if they know what will happen.
Well I’m looking back on twd I stopped watching awhile ago and didn’t go back but just revisiting and thought about this and tried to remember why did he just give up and blow up a place that was a good sanctuary and stuff if anything if he wanted to die he could’ve done euthanasia to himself if he had materials if not then this if there is nothing else painless and leave the place for them but why did he want to just give up anyway even though it wasn’t gonna get better from there he could’ve figured out something but show would be over and they would just be safe in the bunker I guess if he didn’t do it lol it’s ending next season but I didn’t like how things were starting to go so I left the season sasha died and tara just came back that’s all I rkekber from it lol negan was still the bad guy
Yet, out of all the people in that room, at the time I write this, only Rick, Daryl and Carol remain. At best, he just bought them some time, and at that, not even good time. When Jenner tells Rick "The day will come when you won't be [grateful]" really was prophetic. They really might have all been better off if they had just accepted it there and then. I've often maintained that "The Walking Dead" of the title aren't the walkers but the survivors, in the same way a person walking to the execution chamber at death row is said to be a "dead man walking": it's just a matter of time.

@@Mikey-ym6ok I saw the movie the mist, I know what happens when you lose hope and give up.
@@letmetakeyoufaraway7035 Exactly, almost all of them are dead, and most of them died in horrible ways.
The music in this scene is amazing.
I remember this scene and I legit thought they were gonna die.
"It sets the air on fire...... *Everything.* "
*blows up an entire city block*
Love this episode though
Yeah I've always thought surely exploding the facility and potentially throwing millions of particles into the air is the absolute dumbest way to handle a potential virus outbreak inside
Jenner was right, everyone who didn’t stay with Jenner accept for Rick, Carol, and Daryl met a terrible horrific fate and died painfully in the apocalypse. For all of them it might have just been better to opt out like Jenner and wait for the blast to kill them all.
Watching this for the first time years ago, i knew that was the best solution. Later seasons proved it.
Goosebumps every… single… time.
I swear man, this scene is probably one of the best scenes that was ever put on film. The music ties it all together.
God the walking dead used to be so good
This scene is so brilliantly done!
This scene gives me chills, amazing acting.
This guy was too smart for that group to be with them lol
Legit my favourite scene
Definitely one of the all time best season endings ever for any tv show series with real cast actors yet made.
Man that first season was something special
The way he seems to sigh before saying "V.I define", and then the way VI calmly explains it over the music is just chilling
Darabont was a genious man, not only better that the comics (original content), peak TV right here
It’s outrageous they fired him. Imagine if he got todo more seasons
"I'm grateful, Marlon"
"A day will come when you won't be Truman"
The music plus the severity of Genirs tone of voice when he reminds of where they are really makes this a dramatic and stressful scene.
If you guys dont see rick in 5 hours..look for the mushroom cloud!
Season 1 is the best season, change my mind
Fear the walking dead Season 1 was good too.
@@BravoSixGoingDark anything with walkers that can move somewhat quick is great with me. They should have never changed their speed
@@charlierunkle19 You should see how the zombies walk and run in Netflix's Resident Evil Series ...😅
@@BravoSixGoingDark I truly don't want to, thanks though
In all seriousness I haven't watched it and I probably won't, although I might check it out eventually. I've heard some very bad things. It sucks because in theory Resident Evil should be easy to adapt.
@@charlierunkle19 Its draggy, some cringe lines, currently watch Episode 6 at the moment. Despite it's flaws, I like Lance Reddick's acting. Odd choice to cast him as Albert Wesker though.
This scene coulda also been a perfect final episode to end the show.
Uhh No Super Bad It Would Be Wasted Potential The Whole CDC Was Not In The Comics Effectively It Would Be A Epic Fail
Wtf are you talking about
I’ve seen this scene many times. Wasn’t until now I realized I had seen Dr Jenner’s actor somewhere before. He played in the Truman Show as the fake best friend.
Noah Emmerich's acting here is phenomenal.
Vi defining H.I.t's makes this scene even more memorable
yeah directing went crazy
Watched this again after a long time and Dale's infamous look at the end got me
This is when this show was THE show.
Just the score they used for that scene made it so much more intense
When I was in the army we were briefed on thermobaric bombs in NBC training (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical) and after I left the room I felt sick to my stomach in a way I've neve4 felt since. I remember all I could think was "are there no limits to how disgusting people can be? What kind of monster even devises something so barbaric?"
I get chills from this scene, the music, the tone, the scary freaking *where the greatest destruction of structures and life is desired*, hell the camera angles even
i watched the walking dead from the beginning when it was on amc, this scene i still think is the best scene in the whole show.
In case a catastrophic does occur, Would every CDC building around the world, execute the same protocol like in this scene as a protective measure?
@Beagle PALMEIRENSE My father use to work for CDC in China, there are contingencies but they don’t involve lighting the air on fire 🔥
@@ethulwulf5351 i believe it would be set on the viral and biological samples in the building but as for exploding the building with a thermoberic reaction it seems a little extreme
A little late to this response, but the CDC has said that blowing their buildings to kingdom come is not one of their contingency protocols.
@@historicalshadow1454 exactly so unless they outfitted the building after the infection it wouldn't do that
Now not to say they wouldn't have contingency protocols in place to prevent containment failures of the viruses
"VI, define"
...
"VI!"
"Sorry, I didn't quite catch that."
"VI, define HITs"
...
"Here's what I found on the web..."
This was a great story line that was not used to the fullest.
IM STAYIN !! - Jackie
😂😂 I felt tf out of that. She was right too there was some nasty deaths waiting for some ppl in that room.
Season 1 was just pure kino
But I'd sooner avoid being torn apart or coming back as a monster.
imagine the people at Alexandria when it all started. they didn’t even think twice that civilization ended before they knew it.
it's are human strength to adapt and survive. death is not an option.
No one would hate you for staying
I think of this scene after learning about implosions and the Titan crew. Legit the same thing. When a sub implodes the air does the same thing till the water puts it out
Immediately starts with Shane asking "What's that??"😂
Haeh what is that *rubs head
God this show was so good back then
Man i miss this show it was so good. I remember first watching kt when i was 13 around middle school.
Imagine in the Daryl show, the Dr Jenner footage somehow made it to the CDC in France, and people there recognise Daryl from this clip
It could very well be) After all, Daryl's face in this moment gets on the record. Or they can show Jenner's tape and Daryl will say, "Damn, I knew him." 🔥
i was thinking that too
I dont usually get scared or jump but the beginning of the video shook my soul hard when I heard that alarm. I can only imagine how everyone felt when it went off during this tense situation.
This in my opinion is the shows greatest episode. It’s got more emotion and drama. The music really fits in with this scene.
Frank Darabont
For me one of the best episodes. It is maybe the only episode where the main threat was central.
I'm glad TWD did this in the earliest season possible. This is such an unforgettable episode.
He gave up because no wife, no resources, no ppl, that means no cure
So he give up all hope
Best scene put the whole show so intense
Yet, out of all the people in that room, at the time I write this, only Rick, Daryl and Carol remain. At best, he just bought them some time, and at that, not even good time. When Jenner tells Rick "The day will come when you won't be [grateful]" really was prophetic. They really might have all been better off if they had just accepted it there and then. I've often maintained that "The Walking Dead" of the title aren't the walkers but the survivors, in the same way a person walking to the execution chamber at death row is said to be a "dead man walking": it's just a matter of time.
I truly think those words were going through ricks head when he watched Glenn get bashed in, and almost cutting carls arm off
"I've often maintained that "The Walking Dead" of the title aren't the walkers but the survivors, in the same way a person walking to the execution chamber at death row is said to be a "dead man walking": it's just a matter of time." This was literally confirmed years ago in the comics 😂😂
@@JazLynxi Never read the comic, and have only seen a few full episodes. I mostly just watch youtube videos.
No cap season 1 and 2 were the absolute peak of this show. And some parts of season 4 and 5. But ALL of seasons 1 and 2 were literally peak television. I'll never experience weekends with my dad again (we're both zombie fanatics) like when the first 2 seasons ran. To this day we're sad at how this show just burned out.
One of the rare early moments when it's actually somebody other than Shane yelling. 😅🤣
This is the best scene in the entire show. I really wish there would be more scientist scenes
This particular episode was so powerful that it took away all chances of human race to be saved ! I got goosebumps while Dr jenner described the virus that infected entire human population, and most of all, this scene was the most important one as it was a major turning point for the new world...
Bro the music sting after he drops that line gives me chills EVERY TIME
Out of all the seasons, this was still the best episode
"H.I.T.'s: High Impulse Thermobaric fuel air explosives consist of a two stage aerosol ignition that produces a blast wave of significantly greater power and duration than any other known explosive, except nuclear. The vacuum pressure effect ignites the oxygen between 5,000 and 6,000 degrees and is useful where the greatest loss of life and damage to structures is desired."
This scene always give me chills Everytime
And only two people from that entire group remain alive.
Carol daryl rick?
@@mr.wilkingson8419canonically, Carl and Sophia are the only ones still alive (comics), but the TV show has Carol and Daryl

I remember when my hubby and daughter started watching this. I went into the bedroom to watch Grey's anatomy,,, I didn't like this show at first. .But, one sunday, nothing on * sports for me* my daughter beg me to watch a episode of this with her. I said okay. I will... It WAS SEASON 3 mid-finale....... Now when I did, I notice someone... Norman Reedus.. I said, is that... she said yes... omgosh.... I got into it but lost...... Both my hubby and daughter said, when you get your week off .. binge watch TWD season 1 and 2 up to this point.... which I did in that October. I have been hooked ever since. PLUS SPIN OFFS... but season 2 and 1 are my favorites still, with 3, 5,6, 8,7, 9, 11, 10 12, 4... in that order ALWAYS FOREVER The Walking Dead
crazy how daryl can look double his age just from growing his hair out
still one of the best scenes in whole series
The best episode of the series.
Best one scene on TV in years. Chilling.
The director for the first 2 seasons could’ve added so much depth to the walking dead universe.
Imagine him putting in governor backstory flashbacks season 3 could’ve been so much greater.
And I can’t help but notice the show was closer to the source material when that director was in charge.
this honestly scared the piss outta me as a kid
this is the best episode of Lost
Now at 12/3/2023 this scene takes on a whole new meaning.
“It sets the air on fire” he’s been waiting for this for a long time. He knew how he would go out.
The day will come when you won't be.
this is by far my favorite scene in all 11 seasons
