I was stunned with Taras death, I thought i´d be Rosita bc of what the scene before her head was shown was Gabriel asking to talk to her, so I didny even imagine it was Tara. I loved her so much! I love Rosita as well so im happy it wasnt her, but I mean come on, Tara had been with us since season 4!!!

I think Sophia’s death was not only shocking but the most pivotal. This was THE moment when the characters and the audience realized there won’t be a happy ending. Sophia represented hope.
*In 100% total agreement!* As a viewer (reader), we all had become so deeply vested in Glenn. He was one of the first characters we see in the very first episode... and then we witness him becoming an important & integral part of Rick's 'group'. And then, to have the asshole Negan senselessly murder him... well... it really stays with you... long after the episode/season/entire series is long over!
@@andyroid5028 it was really hard to watch after his death. Glenn had so many fans rooting for him, and Negan being here is so hard. They tried this arc with Negan redeming himself and it seemed like most of people dont even know who Negan was. im happy to see Meggy back and maybe she gets her revenge in the end for which im hoping too
Hershel, Beth, Glenn, and Carl - those were the deaths I was most unprepared to handle. There have been so many great characters we've loved and lost over the years.
(spoiler alert) *It still seems so unreal to see all those characters killed off (all at once!) when they show all of the deaths that occured due to beheadings (and then their heads are impaled on tall sticks/poles)!!*
Hershel and Dale’s death were sad cause they were the groups moral compass and the fact both died one to a cowardly act and the other a sword swipe made me cry.
@@NoName-mi9pd He went outside alone (but not without protection) just as he and basically everyone else had done safely and successfully hundreds of times up to that point. He was a careful guy, and he had no reason to believe that this time would be any different. He would've been correct had Carl not antagonized that walker. Hence, not Dale's fault.
I was done once they killed off Carl. That was my limit. Rick, Carl, and Darryl were the only reason I watched the show after a few seasons. Once you realize the zombies weren't the monsters and the survivors had to fear the living more than the zombies, it was a struggle. It just seemed like 90% of the survivors were psychopaths. Carl's death was the final straw.

Noah’s death episode aired on Greg Nicotero’s bday, so they went all practical effects to honour him, having started under Tom Savini in the early 80’s.
Ikr? Not to mention the reference to “Of Mice & Men”. Hell, she had a striped shirt. Very Freddy Krueger ish, kinda. Still Lizzie was clearly unstable. The actress did such a great job though!
That Beth scene gets me every single time. I had to rewatch it numerous times because my brain wasn't allowing me to process it was real.. Darryl's immediate retaliation was extremely bittersweet.
I did quit the show like a few episodes before Carl was bit. Haven't watched it again until now, im on season 11 ep 10 rn and I miss Carl and Rick in it everyday. It was not the same without them.
@@jeffdarnell7942 if that can make you feel better, in the comics Sophia was still alive when the groups found the farm and has grown up along side with Carl .
Glenn’s is the most important death in the story. It affects the whole dynamic between the groups and everything that happens going forward is also influenced by the loss of his character, especially on the tv show where Negan is around for a much longer time. I feel like TWD wouldn’t have been the same had Glenn not died at that exact moment.
Glenn's death was the turning point for TWD cause that's where the audience started to dwindle. Then there was Carl's death and lastly Rick's grand exit. From then on only the most faithful fans stayed.
The Grove is still my favorite episode of the entire series. Mika’s death is one of the very few that completely caught me off guard, but I could understand why she died. They had really no reason to kill of a lot of the people on this list, but with Lizzie growing so unstable slowly throughout her episodes it was perfect writing to have that moment happen.
They just started killing people for that shock factor, then they could keep repeating the whole emotional schtick. After a while I just stopped caring as much, I want to see satisfying character development fulfilled and not just half Assing it.
Siddiq's death was probably one of the more disturbing deaths cause of how realistic it was. I mean throughout this show, we've seen people shot, stabbed, beaten, blown up and everything in between. So for a main character to be choked to death via headlock is just unsettling to me.

and added on top was the realness of the ptsd he endured. it shocked me how many traumatic events characters went through throughout the show but none really showed any signs of ptsd. at some point they would just move on, so it was a kind of break into reality seeing an important character like him suffering from it
Nooope my ass still watching this fucking show lol. Now if Michonne would died I would of quit and I was going to quit the show if she left(which of course she did) but the show was ending anyhow so🤷🏾♀️
Not to mention that she is also a character that survived to the end in the comics. The whole thing ends with Carl, Sophia, and their daughter. No one expected either of them to die going into it.
Hershel was someone I was ready to see for a good bit of the show, and to see him go like that had me sobbing. Beth had such a sad death, and I was not emotionally prepared for her to die after that reunion. Carl was one of my first celebrity crushes so his death hurt so much. Sophia made me realize NO ONE was safe. BUT WHEN THEY KILLED GLENN! My heart stopped beating, my lungs stopped taking air, and I felt as though my whole world was crashing around me. AND LET’S NOT FORGET TYREES! He had such a heroic death… but was it too soon? And I will never be able to hear the phrase: “Look at the flowers” the same ever again.
Brooo I remember when that show was live Sunday night watched that scene had butterflies in my stomach and cried so hard when he got his head chopped I never cried over a show before or since Glenn’s death hurt hella but I seen that one coming
@alexruger7677 I'm empathetic with the characters. The point of them is to get the audience interested and then get connected to them in some way, shape, or form. Have you watched a show or read a book where you didn't feel connection with any of the characters? It gets kind of boring. Even characters that people hate fulfill their purpose with the show.
How? Carl didn't die for nothing. Siddiq did wonders for Alexandria and Hilltop, helping and taking care of people. And besides, Siddiq shouldn't be invincible because Carl helped him nor should any character be invincible either. He's an average person dealing with the same set of circumstances. If you have that mentality then everyone that died disrespected someone.
Keep in mind Siddiq was part of the group longer than Carl was in the eyes of the characters. Siddiq was part of Alexandria for SIX years, by the point of the timeskip in season nine nobody had survived that long, so Carl’s sacrifice was definitely not for naught
Ah yes I cannot find a proper word for it. But it was so shocking. To everyone. It was just sooo heart breaking. I'll never forget Daryl carrying her body.
Haven't watched the show in years but Tyrese death still gets me. My family binged that season after work and we broke down after his death. We had to stop and now seeing it again made me cry while I cuddle on of my cats

@@letsdothis7810 i expected her body to be there and atleast rick walking in to a walker eating her stomach since that would be awful to see for him but the whole drag marks on the ground as if she was dragged around the corner by the walker first before eating all of her within short space of time. Probably not even within an hour of her dying and him finding her 'body' she is totally devoured its just nonsense, that was frustrating to see.
Honestly, it’s surprising to me that Sophia’s death isn’t mentioned on this list. I mean, maybe it wasn’t /chocking/ but it was still so incredibly sad to see her walk out of that barn. I’ve not seen the last few seasons, but that death is what stood out to me the very most.
T-Dog, Glenn, Abraham, Beth,Noah, and Bob made me depressed, but number 1 saddest for me has to be Merle. That one actually broke me, and the worst part was when Daryl saw him and had to be the one to put him down.
Random Fact: T-Dog had to live much longer, but they killed his character off so Carol could live. Also, they killed him in the same episode as Lori because she was a reviled character whereas people aka fans had love for T-Dog, so they wanted to give viewers that emotional feeling. What pisses me off is that so much further down the line, they act like he never existed
Last i think they mention him is when Carol is telling Andrea in 3x11 that Lori died in childbirth and tdog died and saved her leading her to safety in the tombs. But then again that was with the full shane died on the farm that night talk aswell
Noah should have been in the show longer. He was so likeable and relatable and I doubt anyone disliked him. His death was horrible but his last quote was memorable. If he never died when he did I guarantee he would have become a fan favourite
Omg, heads on pikes made me scream and cry at the same time. Especially Enid, Tara and Henry. To be honest, I wasn't sad about Henry himself, but for Carols loss.
Noah's death was really shocking, but not because the character was necessarily more important than any other side character. The actor was absolutely fantastic in that moment. You could see the fear and pain ... and the unfairness of it all on his face. It was a great kill.
I remember my parents, who were fans of the show, swearing up and down to me, a person that read the comics, that Glenn was not going to die even though I kept telling them that's what happened in the comics.
To be fair the show deviated from the comics a lot. Tyrese died in the comics the way Hershel dies in the show. Dale dies way earlier in the show than in the comics. Abraham is killed by Dwight with an arrow instead of Negan. Bunch of others
@IveGotToast You're right but it was still to obvious Glen was going to died and plus I was annoyed by his foreshadowing and close calls. Never read the comics but didn't care he died lol
I for one was actually happy when Carol killed Lizzie. Not only was she dangerously mentally unstable, she did things that are unforgivable she murdered her own sister for no reason, she threatened to kill Judith and she pulled a gun on Carol and Tyresse therefore Lizzie had to go so it's a good thing Carol took care of her before she could hurt anyone else.
From season 4 I never remembered what exactly happened and it was boring to me. Literally the only part I remember of it is how Lizzy acted and died, damn that was brutal.
@@Dakenousss I think the death he got in the series was more befitting to him. Getting shot through the eye and it ending so quickly would've just been bad.
For me Sophia's Death was the moment than i thought the series was gonna go downhill, cuz in the comic series she ended up becoming a total badass character , so much even Carl had a major respect for her.
All of those would make my list too. But, I think an honorable mention should be given to Shiva. I knew it was coming because of the comic, but it still broke my heart.
Shiva destroyed me. Broke me. I wailed so loud my dad thought I had seriously hurt myself. RIP to our sweet cat. ❤️ (Who, is mentioned more than nearly any other character postmortem which is awesome as hell to me)
I like that they brought morales back, and that he wasn't forgotten. It's a little upsetting he was killed nearly immediately into his return, and i wish he had a bigger place in the story
i rarely interact with fandoms of shows i enjoy, so its very refreshing seeing other people who also got broken up from the same deaths that i had. the only people that i really discussed them with were two of my irl friends who both thought beth to be an annoying character. so when i consulted them about her death being one of the hardest character deaths ive ever experienced, neither of them agreed with me, calling me crazy for even liking beth. same with carls death.
Beth's death, I think, was the start of the end of my love for the series. Her reunion with the others gave me hope and then what happened quickly destroyed it. Glenn's death was the last straw, and while I didn't actually notice it back then, I started to slowly lose interest in the show and never really became as obsessed over it as before. I stopped watching the show sometime during that season, satisfied with the shorter recaps elsewhere online, which I didn't even notice until it was too late lol.
I'm in literally the exact same boat. I could've handled Glenn's death, OR Abraham's death but doing both together for what felt like a cop out to make sure everyone was shocked just irked me. I don't think I finished that season, watching the entire episodes. Since then I've just stayed updated on the relatively important events.
@@michaelbugner7011 "I stopped watching the show...satisfied with the shorter recaps." I didn't miss Negan's rise and eventual fall. The recaps did their job.
I’m surprised Sophia wasn’t on here. She was the first real surprise as we weren’t prepared for a child death. Especially after an entire season was spent searching for her.
@@letmebedatguy2637 No. That was the cover story that Walking Dead defenders would say. Chandler Riggs was kicked due to budget reasons. It is similar to Lauren's exit and then reappearance when most of the main characters had left the show. Another example, would be Laurie Holden's out of left field death.
@@humblesurvivor582 also Chad Coleman who played Tyreese. He had other acting job opportunities and the show runners and whoever else up at AMC didn't want to offer him any extra incentive to stay. So, just killed his character in the most random and least meaningful way. Laurie Holden's Andrea dying so random and suddenly always bothered my buddy and I who watched from day 1 back on Halloween night 2010. But Tyreese was the first character's death that killed the momentum of the show for both of us. We stopped tuning in every week to keep up. And it continued to go downhill after that, gaining more and more momentum (downward)
@@humblesurvivor582 Andrea's death was decision of season 3 showrunner - he and Laurie didn't like each other and he changed the script right before shooting
He wasn't, because part of surviving includes keeping some humanity. Shane had gone insane, and he never would've survived because he was too much of a hothead
Uh, I think you mean Shane was jealous and wanted to stay the leader and with Lori. He hated everyone followed Rick, but he despised the fact Rick got Lori and Carl back.
I think with Shane he cracked up he had a purpose before Rick came bk on the scene but let's face it Lori lead him on and used him for his strength and made him think he had purpose but as seasons went you notice how Rick became Shane and realised that no-one can be trusted
A lot of these deaths were shocking to me also. Noah’s death pissed me off. I remember getting so heated because of the way he got killed due to Nicholas’s cowardice. Jesus died in a badass yet shocking way. Carl’s death got me in my feels and actually made me want to cry.
The Denise kill came out of know where. Thier only medic at the time. She was talking one minute, and then, boom..arrow through thr face. What made that scene even more shocking is that she was still trying to talk even after the arrow shot through her eye.
Sophia and Beth were two of the most unexpected and saddest for me. I was also very sorry to see Glenn die. I know he died liked this in the comics, but they were doing some things differently, so I hoped they would change this one and let Glenn live.
Glenn's death absolutely broke my heart and shattered it into pieces. Carl's death made me incredibly angry. But if I have to think about other deaths that broke my heart that would dear Abraham, fierce Sasha, sweet Beth, Carl losing his mama. Then the Whisperers beheading absolutely WRETCHED me. I was not okay. And recently I also cried for losing the wonderful (spoiler) in TWD.11.09. If you know, you know.
I know, and l am PISSED. Of everyone, why……..i cried my fkn eyes out. I even cried watching you know who walk away and leave a gift. Wtf man. Im rewatching scenes here from 1-7 and just bawling
@@albataliephillips4271 I broke down and subscribed to AMC+ to watch season 11. I didn't like the first third of it. Most of it seemed unnecessary. Then certain characters disappeared. Others weren't given enough to do. Some of them did things out of their character. Like Daryl joining the military/police and living in a big society. It also felt really weird seeing some characters living as regular people. Like Ezekiel, the king, just being an animal control guy. I liked the ending though. Eat the rich. 🤟
I absolutely LOVED The Walking Dead more than any other tv show ever made. Then they killed off Carl. I didn't even like him much as a character but he was essential to the entire plot as Rick's successor. To me that is when they "jumped the shark" (so to speak) and turned an incredible tv franchise into a sub-standard, predictable drama featuring occasional zombies.
I think they originally jumped the shark with Glenn and the dumpster. That was the moment I lost interest in the show because it was so insulting to the audience's intelligence and was just flat-out bad writing. However, I do agree that Carl was another example of this.
seasons 7-8 were pretty weak compared to the first 6. Season 9 was actually really good, the final season is interesting because it’s so different then what they have dealt with before.
@@ketodietdiaries8484 Season 6 is when it got just unwatchable for me. That was when I noticed I wasn't as excited for episodes anymore. That was also when the unspeakable dumpster episode happened, as well as the ridiculous,"OMG WHO DID NEGAN KILL????" cliffhanger season finale. Can't comment on the seasons after because I stopped watching after that.
I would definitely put Beth's death higher than it was, having not read the comics yet I had no idea who was going to die until the episode they died. I knew Denise was gonna die, though I didn't think it'd be by Dwight, and I had a feeling that Glenn or Abraham would die. I agree that Carl's death was an extremely shocking one and I knew that Lori would die the moment we found out she was pregnant and I knew Shane was gonna die when he lead Rick into that field.
the only thing that annoyed me about the whisperer's abush victims is that we never saw their death (which might sound a bit morbid) especially henry, enid and tara considering they were main/sub characters.
The WD deaths that have always affected me the most is a tie between Herschel and Glenn. Neither one of them deserved to die, especially the manner in which both characters met their ends.
I'm glad Carl Grimes was number 1. One of the most shocking and saddest deaths of the entire show. And after his death The Walking Dead went downhill big time during the 8th season. Fans may disagree with me saying that season 7 went downhill when Glenn died. But remember Glenn in the comics died in the same way as the show. So in my personal opinion season 8 is when the show went downhill when Carl died since his comic book counterpart had a major role.
I agree, I stopped watching after carl died. I had a feeling the show was dead and it was. the only good episode after that was where they show negans story from the beginning.
Always felt like Glenn was the heart of the show, killing Glenn was hard to take. Watched a little longer after that, but I agree, killing Carl….that was just stupid. Carl was the future.
I'm so glad you brought up some deaths that were shocking specifically for comic fans too, few people discuss the major character differences between the show and comic
I was a fan of the series. My wife and I watched it every Sunday night along with Talking Dead afterwards... but the death of Glenn shook us to our core. It was hard to watch the series after that.
I love how darly's "sorry brother" is a direct call back to the survival instinct scene where his father dies, unfortunately i only found this out after watching this season and I'm sure it would have made it a while lot more heart wrenching
Tyreese William's actor is also the voice for Coach in Left 4 Dead 2, so no matter what he will still be fighting zombies in another part of the country.
I see this list as a bunch of deaths that were there purely as shock value and some deaths that made sense. Imma never get over the fact that they killed Carl,Jesus and Siddiq. They all had so much more to add . Especially Carl and Jesus, Carl is literally the true protagonist

Never be a moral compass in a zombie show
Without Glenn, Rick would’ve still been in that tank or even dead
I was done once they killed off Carl. That was my limit. Rick, Carl, and Darryl were the only reason I watched the show after a few seasons. Once you realize the zombies weren't the monsters and the survivors had to fear the living more than the zombies, it was a struggle. It just seemed like 90% of the survivors were psychopaths.
So true
Glenn was the pacifist and the understandble person in the story, plus is my fav character
Glenn's death was the turning point for TWD cause that's where the audience started to dwindle. Then there was Carl's death and lastly Rick's grand exit. From then on only the most faithful fans stayed.
It also started Negan's character arc because without Glenn's death, Negan would never have his redemption arc

Killing Siddiq was disrespecting Carl's memory.
Killing Noah was disrespecting Beth's.
EXACTLY
Ah man that was another death that broke me too.
Keep in mind Siddiq was part of the group longer than Carl was in the eyes of the characters. Siddiq was part of Alexandria for SIX years, by the point of the timeskip in season nine nobody had survived that long, so Carl’s sacrifice was definitely not for naught
Rewatching Beth's death scene always triggers a specific kind of pain

Sophia's for me was one of the most grievous. I hate how there never was a flashback as to how she was bitten and went missing from Rick so quickly.

I appreciate you not spoiling it cos im catching by brother up and am a little behind
I need season 11 to come to Netflix already. I just rewatched the whole series and I'm starving for more.
I know, and l am PISSED. Of everyone, why……..i cried my fkn eyes out. I even cried watching you know who walk away and leave a gift. Wtf man. Im rewatching scenes here from 1-7 and just bawling
@@michaelbugner7011 I love finding people that still love this show.
To me, Sasha’s death should be number 1. To this day it still gives me chills. It almost sent me to tears.
Especially with the song she was listening to
Agree
She's fine, Scotty beamed her up to Star Trek

Yeah ..the ambush for me was the highest.. it was like a ton of characters we liked on one strike.letting the heads on the stick was too cruel.
TWD: Noah die.
The Fans: NO 😭
Me: Everybody Hates Chris.
Too true lol
The WD deaths that have always affected me the most is a tie between Herschel and Glenn. Neither one of them deserved to die, especially the manner in which both characters met their ends.
Those along with Noah and Tyreeses death to. All 4 of those characters went out brutally
Imo the show picked back up a bit after Angela Kang took over as show runner, but not really the same level as the first 5/6 seasons.
Well season 9, 10 and 11 have been awesome after those terrible seasons 7 and 8.
I cried so much with Carl' s death...
Always felt like Glenn was the heart of the show, killing Glenn was hard to take. Watched a little longer after that, but I agree, killing Carl….that was just stupid. Carl was the future.
Beth's death was such an insane surprise. Blew my mind. Tears tears tears.
Bro the episode that hit me the hardest was the battle at the prison when the baby got eaten and grandpa got decapitated
Negan Killing Alpha was pretty damn shocking.
it was obv that he came to her to kill her but the way he killed her was shocking yes
They played it like he was fighting against Rick's group, but it was very obvious he infiltrated the whisperers to take them down.
I'm so glad you brought up some deaths that were shocking specifically for comic fans too, few people discuss the major character differences between the show and comic
Negan: Take one out, and the rest will fall in line. Just one.
What Simon heard: Shoot everyone but one. And leave them all to die.
Glenn, Harshal, Beth, these were most shocking for me.
Bro you committed a crime not putting bob on that list cuz that was very sad and it was a Huge shock when they ate his leg aswell
I was a fan of the series. My wife and I watched it every Sunday night along with Talking Dead afterwards... but the death of Glenn shook us to our core. It was hard to watch the series after that.
When you realize Dwight killed the doctor who saved Carl.
Imagine an executioner saying "Look at the Flowers."
it was a reference to of mice and men when george shoots lenny.
Dale kept everybody’s sanity to it was hard to lose him😢❤ A little after everybody was kind of losing their sanity but they got it together
I love how darly's "sorry brother" is a direct call back to the survival instinct scene where his father dies, unfortunately i only found this out after watching this season and I'm sure it would have made it a while lot more heart wrenching
This show taught me one thing if a real zombie outbreak could happen: Be careful who you trust.
This show taught me…..blow up at the CDC, lol.
Tyreese William's actor is also the voice for Coach in Left 4 Dead 2, so no matter what he will still be fighting zombies in another part of the country.
@dejulesb974 your right he's the voice of coach in left 4 dead 2 dang l miss that game but lt will always be in my mind everytime l think about lt
I see this list as a bunch of deaths that were there purely as shock value and some deaths that made sense.
Imma never get over the fact that they killed Carl,Jesus and Siddiq. They all had so much more to add . Especially Carl and Jesus, Carl is literally the true protagonist
I guess now we know why they kept Judith alive
@@FlynnArcos Judith never experienced anything really. Carl was there since season 1. Stupid as hell killing Carl
Jesus was in the game to and was a god
@@Hvnlyyyyy he was one of the few good things about season 3
Most heartbreaking deaths
1.Glenn
2.Beth
3.Hershel
4.Shane(After realising how good twd would be with him)
5.Carl
I can’t even BEGIN to EXPRESS how I felt with every death… I’m speechless. Every death left me mourning so bad I couldn’t even watch it after Glenn.
