About the suffering part God has a plan for all of us and those who hurt others will be punished when the rapture is here. When god comes back he will wipe out all evil and there will be restitution. Its just the waiting game. About the satan thing God already defeated Satan even though that sounds really crazy. The thing about that is again when He comeback he will cast Satan into the lake of fire. And the hypocrisy of Christians is true and even though there is people like that there is more out there who want to do good and honor god in the best way. God bless and listen to Slayer

Tom happens to be a Catholic, usually when they have anti-Christian lyrics its Kerry King writing them. However, Tom is 100% comfortable with them because its metal and it's supposed to be heavy and evil sounding, or something like that. So in a way it's somewhat tongue-in-cheek.

See, on the one hand, im with you. But nergal is a well studied atheist play acting satanist. And theistic satanism acknowledges the existence if the being christian's worship, although they believe its a trickster. So any christian commentary on behemoth really can only boil down 'yes, but you're just subverting x, and i dont understand this obscure occult reference'.
Mgła, exercises in futility 1 or 5. Complete refutation. Lets see him walk around those lyrics. The great truth is there isn't one, as the opening line. There's a fun one for a pastor to work with. And nergal is trying to piss off the church. Its obviously subversive, and thus isn't subversive. Mgła is low key poetry and all the more tricky as a result.

Okay, I've been a Slayer fan since 1983. I hold a Bachelor's in theology, have been an associate pastor years ago... just want to point out that in the first place, Slayer is not trying to get into some sort of anti apologetics, or any sort of exegesis at all... They're just writing words expressing feelings that most of us have at one time or another. I think that if you want to take apart this song piece by piece (pun intended...Slayer fans will get it even if you don't...), you should also look at the rest of their lyrics. Like War Ensemble that you keep mentioning... But I digress. I don't know y'all, this is the first video I have watched of yours. But I would expect that you would do a little more homework about your subject matter, like the guys of Lost in Vegas, who do reaction videos. Those guys come prepared. They know what they're talkin about in regard to the music, in general. So I would expect you to know that this album, God hates us all, was released on 9-11-2001. A very significant day, wouldn't you say? Kind of gives the juxtaposition of the title and what happened on 9/11 some unintended meaning.

pastor rob please know that most slayer is in 3rd person: They do songs about the way the world is and was. You have a song titled South of Heaven and it is not talking about hell it is in fact refering to Earth itself.
The lyrics in god hates us all " compelled to live your sheltered lives" is talking about only knowing what is on the television and the news media.
Oh and the song Dead Skin Mask was wrote about the serial killer Ed Gein

  • @Metalpsyraven
    @Metalpsyraven 5 лет назад +53

I thought this was a pretty interesting interpretation but look at it like this.. God= Government. Most slayer songs are jabs to the government.
    "Homicide-suicide
Hate heals, you should try it sometime
Strive for peace with acts of war
The beauty of death we all adore"
as kerry king describes it its us (the people) watching the news and distracted by these things. instantly turning to the direction they (the government) point you towards so you don't see whats happening behind you.
but as Dee Snider pointed out the concept of lyrical interpretation in is hearing 1985. even though he was fighting against unfair claims back then; Everyone has a different interpretation to most songs. And I find your interpretation quite enlightening and learned a little today from a different perspective... NIce!

They are perfect lyrics for an amazing Slayer song! Don't get wrapped up in your own beliefs to try to justify being non-plussed by the song-writers position. Just enjoy the song, It's a description of a state of mind that we all feel in our darkest and angriest moments whether we believe in an almighty powerful god or not.

The song is not about God.. Is avbout the evilness in humanity (that makes Him hate us, because ... You know.. God is Love, Light and Peace. We, as His creation, failed His principle).

The " Dead Skin Mask " song is about serial killer Ed Gein, who skinned his dead victims and wore their skins as suits, hence the name "Dead Skin Mask." At the end of the song, a voice can be heard saying things like, "I don't want to play anymore, Mr. Gein." and "LET ME OUT!

Try their song "Read Between the Lies." It's fantastic! It's a different take on faith issues. It's not criticizing belief in God, but instead corrupt evangelists. I'd actually recommend the majority of the Seasons in the Abyss album, AND South of Heaven. They're amazing albums.
As for this song, I remember Kerry King explaining that the song wasn't meant to be taken literally; the title is being hyperbolic about how miserable life can be. I can't speak for every line of the song, mind you.
Looking forward to the next video!

I thought the line "drones since the dawn of time" was about drone strikes during the Gulf War, so I interpreted Disciple as a criticism against using religion as an excuse to wage wars for personal gains.

So, as your foundation is the bible, i don't and neither do you, need to consult Cambridge any meaning for the word faith. So as it says in the bible, faith is “being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”, how come a philosophy - "a theory or attitude that acts as a guiding principle for behaviour." - and faith are the same thing? How a philosophy is an assurence of what we hope for and certainty of the unseen?
My second question is: Why should i or anyone rely on the bible for truth about the world and not the Bhagavadgītā for example?

    • @fjmsfjms

A funny thing about Slayer is that Dave Lombardo and Tom Araya are both Christians. Tom Araya said he doesn't take Slayer's lyrics seriously and just sees it as a horror movie. But he also said he feels like he has to do something to make up for his time in the band and wanted to create, with Lombardo and some others, a Christian band. So apparently, on some level, he does take it--the nature of Slayer's lyrics--seriously.
