The Secret Classic Car Barn we all dream of - Car Caves. Welcome to a Car Cave episode of The Late Brake Show, where Jonny Smith is invited inside a private owner's car collection. In this instance a fascinating bloke called Michael from Winchester, who has been building several 'posh barns' to house his habitual car hoarding habit. From MG Metro and Scirocco GTI, to Aston DB5 and Gordon Keeble to mid-build BMW Batmobiles to lines of mint classic Jags. It's all here.
Thanks for stopping by The Late Brake Show.

a whole bunch of cars in here that I knew nothing about it just shows you how many different cars there are and people's different tastes because I really don't think I would buy any of those in the collection if I even have the money
I bought a Carly a I’m not happy with it
Carly is a total scam@@johndyer3743
They don't supply my car , i have a fantastic Kia Cerato 2.0L coup 2012 , hope they add this to their list .
Michael should have his own RUclips channel! He is so natural as a presenter and I can listen to him talking about his cars for hours.
I totally agree with you on that! Very knowledgeable and good to listen to also! 👍
What a life this chap has. Worked hard made some strong money and now he can pick and choose what makes him happy out of the worlds classifieds.
Inheritance
@@ewoollno, he's a property developer.
It’s an impressive collection, no matter how it was funded
@@gaycha6589 absolutely, I find it aspirational.
@@ewoolldoes it matter?
Of all the cathedral of private car collection films, this is one of the finest. A really modest nice chap, who’s clearly done well in life, but not in the slightest way arrogant or smug. And a beautiful collection in an amazing ‘shed’❤
This is easily my favourite of these so far. So much character, such a British centric eye and the fact his only reach into the Ferrari world is a 550 is the cherry on the cake. Fantastic.
Well said
Michael is such natural in front of camera, can he have his own segments?
Cracking cave as always Jonny
I don't even know where to begin! What a collection. Congratulations to Michael on amassing such a lovely collection, and thanks for allowing us to get a glimpse of the gems!
Wow. When you see a registration and you think you know it . After looking though my photos on my phone. The metro gti at the end of the video used to come to the garage where I worked. Lovely old bloke used to bring it to the garage. I have a photo in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 of it being on the ramp.
Best car cave ever!! The owner is so wonderful to hear and so humble about his amazing collection!
Thank you for showing us such fantastic stories!
Michael is a great collector and a fine story teller. He is keeping fine vehicles in proper storage.
Your best episode yet! I applaud this chap for his wonderful and eclectic car collection. He is a natural orator of his own car history, I could have listened to you both for hours! Too often us British folk get a bit jealous of other people’s possessions, especially great cars. This chap deserves all his wonderful automobilia. The unrestored cars are as interesting as the ‘baubles’ in his vast collection. What I would give for the Shooting brake Jag…
Jaguar were mental not to have produced the shooting brake. Great looking car. Changed the ugly duckling xjs into a beautiful swan.
One of those rare videos that makes you, somehow, feel better about the world. What a nice guy and what a brilliant and very personal collection he’s put together - long may it continue
What a really nice guy. Polite, well spoken, no airs or graces about him. Full of great stories. Jonny, I’m sure you had a great day spent with him.
I've lost count of the LBS video's I've watched and thoroughly enjoyed, but this is the first one, when I first saw the contents of this Barn, I went fkin hell! what a eclectic collection of wonderful cars. You knocked it out the park, or should I say Barn with this one Jonny. 👍 Many thanks to the owner Michael for letting us all see his wonderful collection, any DB5 will always steal my heart. 😍 Thanks Jonny as always, if it wasn't for you and your reputation and RUclips channel, we would never get to see these wonderful collections. 👍
Probably my favourite car cave yet. More collection content please!
Glad to hear it. It's been well overdue, this one.
Michael being true to his car life history. Proper reasons to collect the cars, with flash back moments by just seeing them and sitting in them. Like many of us, we purchased vehicles many years ago for the right reasons in the moment. The lucky few have been able to hold onto the cars and when necessary store them rather than sell them for resurrection when family, career and life releases us to. My barn is smaller, my passion similar. Great to see and thanks for sharing guys.
Great episode Jonny. What a cracking collection of cars and huge thank you to Michael allowing you a peek into his motoring world. What a down to earth, genuine man Michael is. Really enjoyed that episode. The back stories were amazing. Nice one Jonny.
This chap is a true classic enthusiast in every sense of the word. An Aston Martin DB5 and quite happy to have a Montego or a Metro in the same collection. And everything cared for and cherished. Nothing left outside to rot. He deserves everything he has worked for. Jonny, possibly your best show to date. Much appreciated.
Some years ago, when my son was about four, we went to Castle Combe and watched some classic Jags race. For some reason, that I can’t explain, I found myself moved to tears. There was a noble dignity about their continued racing that I found quite profound.
Oh my goodness, how has he kept this a secret. The collection is outstanding and one, if I may presume, is something similar to what I would do, growing up and seeing cars & the industry evolve. He has enough cars with pertinent history to open as a museum. I would certainly pay to view these cars. Thanks to Michael for allowing you in. That italian Jag blew me away as well as many others. I could go on, but I want to watch again, so a million thanks!!
A true, unadulterated enthusiast. Thank you to Michael for allowing us into his sanctum of automotive wonder. There are some true unicorns in this collection, I'm in awe!
It doesn't get more pure car lover than this wonderful, humble, gentlemen having all of these stunning cars sitting in his barns and he tools around in a beater Mazda pick up as a daily. What a channel. I grew up in Singapore surrounded by Brits (but am a frog/yank with two passports) currently residing in Miami. I am always jealous when I see all of these gorgeous British/Euro classics (second only to Harry's auction tours). I would love to roll around in a Mark Two Jag. Much respect, Mr. Smith.
An amazing collection of cars. You know it's a superb collection, when Jonny is lost as to what one of them is, being that 1 of 2 "Italian Jag's" 😮. Thank you so much to everyone involved in making this video and to Michael for showing his collection. Such a humble chap. 👍
What a fantastic character Michael is. I was blown over by his charisma and storytelling. Great episode
Great episode once again 😊 These really should be on mainstream TV. So entertaining! 😊
Thank you. Which was your favourite?
@@TheLateBrakeShow
Hi J. Car or episode 🤔 Got to be the Lynx Eventer.....just beautiful. I had a Rover V8S when much much younger. Loved the look of it. Best episode......for me Metro vr4 rally car.
Mainstream TV is a dying medium, RUclips is fine for our Jonny. Great vid once again
@@stephengamble2804111
Eclectic and fabulous! Thanks Jonny, Phil, and of course Michael.
What an incredible collection! There isn't a car I wouldn't also have bought, given the opportunity (and the seemingly deep pockets).
bro check mines :D
What a great vid, thanks Jonny, incredible collection and storage area! The loveliest guy too, could listen all day to Michael and I think the first one to talk to camera! Stunning aston👌👍
ahahahaha
You HAVE to go back!!! Can't believe you found the 1-of-one Tarchini 420!!!
Maybe not the best looking Jag ever, but wow! I have a 420-compact here in the US of A. Less than one thousand made it here.
Great collection - great show!
Terrific collection - a quick correction though - the baddies in the Sweeney always drove S types never Mk2s.
That has to be the best ever of car caves yet , absolutely brilliant
Top-notch!!! and as usual a lovely and genuine bloke. Totally disappointed he did not mention that lovely collection of original Raleigh Choppers he has in his collection. btw that is the only thing out of his collection I could actually afford to buy 👌👌👌👌
Just bought a brand new mk4 at 64 yoa boomer - sad !
Truly eclectic collection. Just when you think "Ok, hang on, there's a pattern there", a 1960s Ford pickup truck pops up, and we learnt that the daiky driver is a Mazda pickup. Beautiful. Restrained, modest chap, too.
If there is one thing better than a brilliantly eclectic collection of cars, it's a collection of cars, each with its own great story.
Absolutely Brilliant collection !
Thank you Michael letting us see inside your showrooms. 🙏
Staggering collection and mentally noted he would be willing to part with 3, the DB5, one of the Jags he had in duplicate and one of the Mustangs. Liked hearing what his attractions were for buying a vehicle. Also as a learning point now know about the Gordon-Keeble.
Almost all his cars are replaceable. Try finding a good Gordon Keeble?
Strange little connection to my part of the world. One of the very first XJSs ever sold was to an entrepreneur in Inverness. It was silver, because 1977 was silver jubilee year. ST 1 was the Saint’s Reg number, an Inverness plate owned by a local family, and rented to the tv company. I’m being careful not to mention names.
What a lovely, affable and modest man Michael is. I absolutely loved his collection with all of its special cars, quite ordinary ones and a few quirky ones. When someone like Michael announces quite candidly that he has an Aston Martin DB5 for sale, I regret not working harder in life. I would absolutely love that car.
Wow! Quite a lot in common here. I've owned a jag, my grandfather was a Daimler man. I work for Aston Martin, I've owned a corolla GTi. I have a dinky toy collection of jaguar cars. The first car I did 100mph in was a montego vdp 2.0i and I am the same vintage as Johnny smith😂. What a time to be alive. Oh and the first car I went to help change tyres for at a club rally was a MK1 escort. Great work and thankyou for letting us look at your brilliant collection.
Fabulous Car Cave episode and a thoroughly lovely chap. So many hobbies and interests come from your first real hero, your Grandad.
Absolutely love the Jaguar racing history, the Return of the Saint style XJ-S, the AE82, and the 2-door Range Rover to name just a few.
These are the type of collections I adore. Every car has a personal history and story with so much passion for every one of them. Congratulations to that man!
You should have asked him what he plans to buy when the DB5 is sold (California sage green is one of my favourite all-time colours... Stunning).
It just reminds me what a car collection 'should' be. It has a soul. Not a 'RUclips' collection of fashionable cars on finance, rotated and flipped when the views start to drop...
What a magical collection a man that really knows his cars no BS just a fantastic collection thank you for a wonderful look around Sir.
Top car collection and top bloke as well.. how fabulous to have a car collection that mirrors your car history and dreams so many memories!
Great episode. I'm a local Hampshire resident and regular cyclist through some of the places Michael mentioned. Great to see there is such a fantastic collection nearby.
Finally... a garage I don't feel frustrated by. So many of these "Barn Find" video's are people that will NEVER find the tim, money, or space to do any of these projects but stubbornly refuse to part with them. And when they kick the bucket the heirs either have no interest in them or the same limitations are still in place ( Money, Time, Space, and Knowledge) so they get hauled of to the scrappers. Some people should recognize their limitations and get out while the getting is good so to speak.
People hoard all sorts of things. It's an illness for some. Do agree with you on the bucket kicking, the rellies just want cash. Personally when I fall off my perch the only thing I have is a shed full of tools collected over a lifetime, mean alot to me but the family has no interest 😢
WOW, what a collection. I've learned so much about British cars from you on this channel. Even though I visited GB and IRE in 1986, 1987 and 1991, it even brings back some great memories. Thanks!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE this channel!
The best car cave by a country mile.
Love this collection the Gordon Keeble is the one car that stood out for me but the Range Rover and jags would all have a place in my heart as well . The lesser classic in the collection stand out as well as it marks this guy as a car guy and not just a collector. Nice collection thanks for showing it .
There genuinely hasn’t been an episode on this channel that I haven’t enjoyed, but this one was a real gem. What an interesting collection of cars and what a great guy too.
Thank you, that's lovely to hear.
Michael could host his own show. Class act.
What an amazing collection, and Michael is such a car fan, I'm very impressed.
Thanks Michael for letting us (well, Jonny) explore your incredible collection
That is a gentleman I could never get bored of talking about his cars. What a an amazing collection and such interesting cars!!!
Brilliant episode Jonny and a huge thank you to Michael for sharing his cars. What a lovely man!!
All the stories behind the cars make this collection special. Thanks again Jonny!
Absolutly overwhelmed by the number and varied makes / models of cars in the collection of sheds !!! So pleased to see them all looked after, or being (gradually) restored. Wht a wonderful tour of Michael's personal collection. Best wishes from Lincolnshire
This has to be one of the best and diverse collections to date doesn't it. Wow made me smile to think of all the odd balls there rubbing shoulders with some of the rarest. Brilliant and thanks for showing the collection Jonny and Michael.
One of my favorite barn tours, thank you Michael for sharing this with us!
I'm speechless....😂...Greetings from South-Africa!!
What a great humble guy.
A very lucky man to have such a collection the rest of us could only dream about.
That chap is a legend. Natural story teller and so knowledgeable about his cars, great episode.
Variety and quality of uploads on this channel is suoerb. Keep up the stellar work.
Michael is a legend with his collection. I could spend days in there just talking to the guy & enjoy his cars.
Another great video Jonny. It'd be great to see Tiff & Jason in a video driving these cars.
This has been my favourite episode of the late break show this year. It’s absolutely amazing to see such a collection. And a delightful chap also
This is one of my favourite car caves yet !. Ive never seen an old jag shooting brake before and laughed a lot to Jonnys captain safe comment about the volvo lol
What an awesome guy Michael is. My god, this is the kind of guy who would be your best friend in a flash, even if he didn't like you. Excellent collection because of the story behind each car. These barn find car cave video's are the best.
I absolutly love the owner. Such a cool man! Thank you for sharing the love.
This has been one of your best car collector’s collections. Having a enthusiastic and animated owner makes the review brilliant.
What a great episode 🙂 I also worked for Mann & Co in the 80's - and Redman & Co for a while. I also had a Montego as my first company car (F849KGW, no idea why I remember the ref plate) so it was a fantastic surprise to see one in the video. Great stuff, keep it coming and keep up the great work 👏👍
Ps. That escort Mexico, really made me smile - my mum was Jack Brabhams' PA when he won his first F1 title in '59 🙂
I worked there in the late 80's too. Thought I did well, but this guy puts me to shame.
Thought I was listening to Harry's Garage! Nice guy. Lovely collection.
This collection is exactly my speed! I already have a Frogeye Sprite and a Volvo 240 and one of my top 5 dream cars is a DB5! Love a 60's Mustang too, and a 635, and an original Range, and an original V8 Vantage, and a Scirocco, and an old Ford F Series, and 60's/70's Jags! I love an eclectic mix of cars and if I ever do this well for myself my collection will look very similar!
What a fantastic car collection, and a really nice bloke.. thanks for letting us in for a look... awsome.
I'm sooo glad I finally watched this. I put it off thinking it would just be some rich bloke bragging about his cars. I should've know better. What a great bloke. Passion and nostalgia has led him to do what we'd all be doing if we had put ourselves in a position where we could afford to do it. I doth my cap!
Absolutely fabulous episode , would have loved it to have been longer , what a collection.
I can't begin to express my appreciation for this opportunity to be shown this wonderful collection of classic, unique, and stunning automobiles. Thank you so much...
Cool guy or what? One of the best collections ever stumbled across surely. What a wonderful mix of vehicles. I don't think he's got one car that if you were spotted in you wouldnt be "cool". Fabulous find Johnny. Simply amazing
A great episode once again. Not only did the owner have some very unique cars, but he knew about them inside out. Amazing that these cars have found their way to his stewardship - they appear to be in safe hands!
What a fascinating chap. One of the best car collections I have seen. I loved how each car had a story. Thanks for sharing
Loved it. Brilliant episode ( Jonny we don’t need any more electric car reviews. You can stop them now)
Thank you! Michael & Jonny. What an amazing car collection. 👍😎
The Immaculate Collection. What a privilege to see a bit of it, could have been twice as long a tour and no less entertaining. As ever TLBS delivers a unique and original perspective. And what a generous host and owner for letting the cameras in.
This was a great barn walk about, great memories of the 130 abarth run one for 7 years with a 5 gear mod for longer legs, once pushed it to just shy of 150 with 4 petrol heads in it,that collection needs a Saab 95 aero hot, loved that car, my rs4 low mileage is up for sale if he’s interested all blacked out with carbon trim still has original front wavy discs, Audi service history
All I can say is Beat That! What a simply amazing collection. I can't get my head around how someone could amass all these beautiful cars in their lifetime. Brilliant episode again Johnny.
Absolutely FANTASTIC! The thing about these shows, is you don't know what to expect!
Amazing collection , this guy is a natural in front of the camera too 👍🏻
Absolutely incredible- love stuff like this. What a guy and what a collection
One of the best you’ve shown.
I love the mix of “way out of my league” and “one day might be attainable”.
Agree. Love the sheer variety here.
What a nice ecclectic collection,Jonny! I can be proud to say I've owned a car similar to one of his, the AE82. It was an FX-16 here in the US with the 4AG and all the sporty parts in a little commuter. 4 wheel discs, strut brace, etc. Wow but that Tachinni though! Talk about a never for sale car! Good find again Jonny!
Well done Jonny on another great video. Thanks for entertaining us all with your brilliant content!
Great episode Jonny. If I had the income I’d have exactly the same illness! That CSL BMW needs to be back on the road. Glad the old Mazda got an honourable mention too. Cool guy.
Brilliant! 37 and a half minutes of pure car joy. Cheers Jonny!
Brilliant mix of cars
Love these car cave videos. I would happily watch one 10x longer with ALLL of the details on everything
The best yet for me, thanks for sharing. What an eccentric collection. What an inspiration.
I must be getting old because I loved this video, particularly the colours of those Jags and Aston.
Wow, amazing collection Jonny. Looked like James Bond and the bad guy’s stash of run arounds 😳
yeahhh
Thank you Michael for preserving these cars and thank you Jonny for bringing this to us.
In 1988/89 I worked with a guy who had a Montego Turbo. It was black and to distinguish it from a normal MG it had a red TURBO decal along the sides. He loved that car, always cleaning it. Anyway, I got some electrical tape in black and carefully placed it over the B. It was forever known as the TURDO. He wasn’t amused.
Brilliant episode, feel like there's so much more to tell , can we have episode 2 , what a lovely man , very interesting stories
Enjoyed every minute of this video. What a throughly nice chap too, not to mention his glorious collection. Thanks for the upload 👍🏻
A brilliant display of lovely cars.
