- This is episode 2 of the Idol Chat with Harry Metcalfe from Harry's Garage. Following on from the biographical 'brown chairs' Harry Metcalfe takes Jonny Smith on a tour of Harry's Garage. Despite never working with him, Harry and Jonny have known one another within the car mag and TV industry for a while now. He's always been just as approachable and enthusiastic as you see him in his Harry's Garage videos, and offered to be a victim of the chairs over a year ago now.

@@rudolphbondefangerer5513 Jay has loads of interesting cars and they all get used. I particularly appreciate his love of Citroens and Panhards.
@@richardharrold9736 He also run a museum. Its not a personal cars I use thing. I seriously do not believe Jay would ever take a Stanley Steamer to do his weekly shopping. Also, he would not take that steamer to a holliday trip. Harry only keep cars he will use. He travels in his testarossa, he do hollidays in Italy in his Countach, a car only stays in Harrys Garage if Harry have a use for them. Note that there is no Lancia Delata HF Integrale in there, and he must love those. Why? I would guess, not usable cars. Drive one and you know why. Jay is building a museum, Harry collect cars he love.
Jonny slides up to Harry after the cameras go off “so Harry, have you thought about Harry’s Farm rave. We can get some sweet water in. I have a mate can lay down some beats. I even have Stellantis car group interested in sponsoring it”😂🤣. Great video Jonny, Harry is amazing. Now how do I raise £70k to buy and restomod an XJC, because that car is very naughty (See Harry’s vid released today)

Harry's one of my fave car guys on RUclips. Down to earth and humble, no bs. Just a real enthusiast.
But have you ever seen him feature or drive a Ford? Bit of a badge snob is our Harry...
I like the casual way that Harry says he has spent £60,000 or £70,000 on the classic Jag so can only imagine how much his total collection has cost him over the years

@@anonimushbosh cars cost money all the time, and only make money when you sell them.. so they will have cost a chunk of change, regardless of actual fair market value.
@@Wirenfeldt1990 If you're going to be pedantic about it in accounting sales and, if applicable, rising asset values go on one side and costs go on the other so if the collection goes up significantly in value the net costs will very likely be negative.
@@anonimushbosh you clearly don't own sportscars. I've been lucky, buying some when the market was still low, and selling these last years at crazy prices. I took all my books and between the storage, the insurance and the maintenance, I'm still at a loss. Harry probably spent an amount you could never wrap your head around, keeping so many cars for so many years.
@@anonimushbosh yeah but (in a vacuum, at least) unless you take out a loan against the car or sell it again you still have expenses on the car, like insurance, storage, restoration/wear and tear, fuel etc. and no income..
Harry is an exemplary man. Successful yet humble and absolutely head over heels in love with his passion of cars. And so generous in sharing his passion with us without any sense of showing off, just sharing
My old man had a Z1300 when I was a little kid in a small town in south eastern Australia... It was blue with gold accents and THE coolest bike in town hands down.
He was the boss at the big tannery, one of the biggest employers in town and I'll never forget him picking me up from school on the big Kwakka... I thought my dad was literally a superhero and so did all my friends. It was fun having a cool dad and he was the coolest dad and an even cooler grandpa.
RIP Dad, we all miss you and bike rides aren't the same without you.
Jonny you have made a slightly dreary Sunday afternoon very enjoyable with these two videos. Some of the best car content I've seen in a long time!
At last the Panda 4x4 surfaces! Good to hear such a positive review of these brilliant little cars, dispelling every urban myth.
Just a shame they never made a 4x4 100HP. There is a FWD 100 but the 4x4 is dangerously slow. They really should have given it more power.

Motor trade from 1980 to the present, with a couple of years farming early on……. still living in and around farming in the South East………… Harry, a man after my own heart…. 🙂
You both share a similar uncompromising love for vehicles, regardless of their monetary value…… the quirkier the better in my book……. my cars are a mishmash, Trabant, Skoda, Alfa, Volvo, G Wagon and Citroen…… trucks, IVECO, Mercedes (Unimog) and bikes, referred to as the donkey sanctuary……. my current favourite is a battered early Varadero XL1000V……. with Black Widow cans…… all the attitude of a Paris Dakar bike, but weighing the same as a Range Rover, on road tyres…… 😳

A bit disappointed you skipped over the 182 trophy, perhaps not as interesting to you as the other cars, but it was something I think Harry fell in love with on an Evo test, I bet there would be some great stories untold there. Not to mention it's unquestionably the best 00s N/A hot hatch. I do realise your time with Harry was limited though, just hurts when it's a personal favourite of mine!

I think it deserves a special mention, I love the way you drag those huge seats around. Great video as always (I'm a big fan of Harry's garage) :) The master audio level is rather low. It needs to be redubbed with 9db added I reckon.

The Honda CBX might be the coolest part of the shed. I remember years ago before I ever got into bikes much (my old man has ridden his whole life) I saw a CBX and thought "Bloody hell, look at the size of the radiator." not realizing it was a fairly rare six cylinder superbike of its day. And I mean they just sound unbelievable. Absolutely awesome.

Whenever I see one of Harry's videos, I am always mesmerised by the F40 even though it isn't his.
I think taking the brown chairs to Ian Tyrrell would be fascinating.

Harry is such a dude isn't he ? I watch both of his channels avidly, (interestingly, ALL of my Farmer friends also watch Harry's Farm!), he is so much on the same page as me in views/interests, it is easy watching whilst being entertaining at the same time.
