Another authentic, emotional, genuine review. As always: "Red Violin" and "The Last Emperor." And a new one: "Empire of the Sun." Keep up the great work, dear!
I just saw an interview with Marcus. He said that he had nothing to do with writing the book. He said that the Navy had it written and it was done before he ever met the writer. The book is just a PR job for the Navy.
3:12 *Emma:* I'm really interested in this man. Is he going to be alive at the end of this story? Uh, not to give it away, but the film is titled 'Lone Survivor', ya know? The key word here being the word 'survivor' 😉😏
Love this movie, makes me wish I should have just left to start bootcamp. But I was expecting my first child and couldn't leave. Emma as always looking beautiful. Hello from Alberta!!
If you're interested, a post-rock band called Explosions in the Sky did a lot of the instrumental music for this movie, besides the credits song. And it's so unlike most war film soundtracks, but I think it's incredible how it fits the film so well. Thanks for watching Emma!
It's funny, I was trying to look up the lone survivor game ost that came out like 12 yrs ago and this is one of the vids that popped up, and yes Ik that this is a movie and I've also watched it yrs ago, great movie
I feel bad for axe at the mountain he was reloading his last mag. Then he dropped his rifle after he ran dry on his rifle ammo, all he had left was his pistol baretta M9 fully loaded with two extra mags.
Sadly evil has always existed within the brotherhood of man and one undeniable truth of this is war is the inevitable result of this. History has taught us the lesson that peace is maintained through the projection of strength. Weakness invites aggression.
This is half true, the navy let him hangout behind the wire doing training while they crafted his public image. He said in a recent interview that all the interviews and speeches he did to promote his story before the movie came out were all given to him as an assignment by the Navy public affairs office. This whole thing was a recruitment ad, he said he didn't even write the book himself, Navy PA did, a lot of what they say happened is not actually what happened, and they discharged him after the movie came out.
So fun fact, Marcus Luttrell said recently on an interview that the navy PR department wrote this book and movie without his consent and that most of this is not what actually happened, and that they forced him to run around doing PR for the movie then discharged him from the navy once the movie came out.
Can you link or tell me which interview please? I neeeeed it. Because I think ur not telling the truth because the reason Marcus was discharged was because he blew his knees out in Iraq, years before the movie came out.
In the book LONE SURVIVOR this battle was described as being a RUNNING GUN FIGHT THAT LASTED FOR OVER 2 HOURS. During these 2+ hours those 4 Navy SEALs were 75%-80% surrounded by an enemy force of 200+ taliban soldiers. These 4 Navy SEALs were taking fire from elevated positions from almost every direction. On top of the wounds they received from bullets and shrapnel from RPGs they were also constantly being peppered by the chips and shards of the granite they were using for cover from the Taliban soldiers when their shots missed the Navy SEALs. In the scenes of the movie where the SEALs are jumping and falling down the mountain that is not 100% accurate. In fact they jumped 3 times not 2 and the mountain was far more steeper then how it was portrayed in the movie. This was done because it was impossible to recreate the falls 100% accurately for the movie. Also in the book LONE SURVIVOR everytime they jumped down the mountain 1 or 2 of the SEALs broke a bone in their body. Michael Murphy fractured his face and Marcus Luttrell fractured multiple vertebrae in his spine. With all the wounds and broken bones these 4 Navy SEALs received Danny Dietz got the worst of it. He was shot 11 times. 1 SHOT IN THE LEFT ANKLE 1 SHOT IN THE RIGHT CALF 1 SHOT IN THE RIGHT THIGH 1 SHOT IN THE GROIN 2 SHOTS IN THE STOMACH 2 SHOTS IN THE THROAT 3 SHOTS IN THE HEAD Early in the battle Dietz right thumb was completely blown off and he had to shoot left handed from that point on. The movie shows him losing 3 fingers but thats incorrect. And lastly in 1 of the jumps off the mountain both of his legs were broken when the other 3 SEALs landed on top of him. From that point on Marcus Luttrell had to carry him down the mountain. For his actions in this battle Michael Murphy was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for bravery and valor in combat. In the pictures shown at the end of the movie excluding Marcus Luttrell every man seen in the pictures we're killed during the mission Operation Red Wings. After numerous assassination attempts by the taliban Mohammed Gulab was relocated to the US in 2015 and currently lives in Texas with his wife and 7 children.
Marcus lied about Ax being dead, Ax died several days later because nobody came to rescue him since Marcus said he was dead. A lot of this is public knowledge now because the opsec is lifted a long time ago and Marcus has already opened up about it on a few podcasts and even on Anderson Coopers show. This movie and the book are propaganda written by the Navy because the truth was too embarrassing to tell.
The real Marcus is in the black knit hat at the table. He has a twin brother who was also a SEAL and is now in Congress. As someone said, there are things that aren't accurate but a movie always has to make exceptions.
30:20 Usually they do have 'bullet proof vests' but that was earlier in the war so not everyone wore them and even if they did the vests/plates weren't as advanced as they are today but even with the best of the best modern Level IV plus plates (the actual thing that stops the bullet) they're made of a sort of hardened ceramic with kevlar backing because normal kevlar alone can't stop rifle rounds so the ceramic basically slows and breaks up the bullet and the kevlar catches the fragments but because of that if you get shot enough especially in the same area the ceramic will become ineffective and thus the rifle caliber rounds will start to penetrate
Look, I know its armchair warrioring and WAY past the expiration date, but I don't understand why this four man team didn't bail on the mission as soon as they began having communication problems or at least went back to a previous known good location for clear reception and then asked for advisement. What would have been the harm in scrubbing a mission and retrying on a different day? One other thing, why were they in-country and not learing basic words & phrases in the native Afghan tongue as part of their training? I know, none of this matters at this point, because it went down the way it went down, but I just have to wonder.
@@johnnyboy6707 They would resist, make noise, attempt escape, resulting in diverted attention of at least 2-3 operatives to monitor and control the prisoners, their team is very small that is not a sustainable tempo, and if they killed them the media would castrate the military more than they already were
you can watch Marcus talk about his experiences on Joe Rogan's podcast I think, he stated that he crawled for three days on his stomach instead of being able to limp along like Mark did in the movie. I CANNOT imagine the willpower it takes to keep going after a situation like that.
Unfortunately War, and violence in general, are the ways of the world and have been from the very beginning and it will be that way until the END! Evil will always exist in the world, strength and the willingness to fight against anyone that wants to do us harm are the only things that stop it. It is in our DNA in the United States to be rugged self reliant individuals, and many of us carry firearms, because we understand that we don't get to pick the time or place evil will appear.

@@tonym6854 the reason they shot Ax in the head in the movie is because in real life he was alive when Marcus was extracted, but he lied and said he saw Ax die, and so they didn’t even try to rescue him.
