“Only after disaster can we be resurrected. It's only after you've lost everything that you're free to do anything. Nothing is static, everything is evolving, everything is falling apart.” ― Chuck Palahniuk, Fight Club
What's awesome is when you watch again, keeping the twist in mind, and watch the reactions from other characters, particularly Marla. Such as Tyler saying Tyler went away. Her "What?" is more of confusion rather than "What? He went somewhere?" There's a Starbucks cup in every scene to represent how the coffee chain has spread across the world and through society. Edward Norton went on a subsistence diet, didn't work out, and avoided sunlight so his character would become paler and more frail, while Brad Pitt ate healthy, worked out constantly, and got plenty of sun so his character would grow more healthy looking and larger, signifying the new personality taking control. Which also leads into "Edward" adding a new window to his jaw ending the "Brad" personality, because he made an active choice to take control of his life.
Brad is the shit. He's a different character in every role he takes. Any does them great. It's so funny watching it again and noticing the clues you missed the first time.
I saw this when it came out in the theaters back in ‘99. Still remember walking out, stunned, and changed forever. Thought they’d make a movie out of Survivor. Brad Pitt would’ve been great as the protagonists agent.
In the 90's, in NYC, most payphones had a "callback" number to that payphone in a encased bracket above the keypad. We would write this number on our palms with a pen or marker, and then ask our friends to be there at a certain hour to receive that call as a means of "meeting up". Also, if that number showed up on our pagers, AKA beepers, we would know exactly who was calling and their present location. Basically how we bought and sold drugs. Ok, byeeeeeeeeee!! 😮
Yo same. In Texas though instead of NYC. However I was a kid and just had a watch so I would be told by my parents to be at whatever pay phone at a certain time so they could check on me or pick me up depending on what I was doing. Typically sports stuff or just hanging out downtown with friends. Crazy how different things are now.
Great reaction like always, this movie is a masterpiece. I was lucky enough to see this movie in the theater in 1999! It made the "splicing" part that much more real. Brad Pitt is Tyler Durden Edward Norton, the narrator, is Jack Moore It's OFFICIALLY(ish) revealed by unused props from the movie of Jack's driver's license and some of his mail, which show his name as "Jack Moore". There's also sort of an implication and common assumption that all of the "Jack" stuff was written by the narrator, and hence HE is Jack, and THAT'S why he later utters "I am Jack's smirking revenge." That maybe the "Jack" writings were things he wrote in his insomniac sleep(lessness) before he ever even created Tyler. The narrator, in the beginning of the movie, stated to the doctor he was going through phases where he'd wake up in places and have no memory of how he got there. He was already switching out That quote that tyler said "A woman could cut off your penis while you're sleeping and toss it out the window of a moving car." He's referring to the case of Lorena Bobbitt, which happened in the 90s a few years before this film came out. She cut her husband's wee-wee off and drove off, chucked it on the side of a road somewheres. Somehow the cops were able to find it, get it on ice, and it was successfully reattached, and John Bobbitt claims that it works fine these days. The 90s were wild! The book ending is better than the movie. It goes further. In the book he gets arrested and after sentencing finds himself detained in a mental hospital - where most (or all?) of the staff and patients seem to be members of Fight Club - and theyre up to something... Also, the bit where he fires the shot at the end is better in the book, because he's talking to himself and the perspective on that exchange - on the written page - is wild. Fun fact: that punch at 10:47 was scripted, the connection with Brad Pitt's ear was not. Norton hit him there by mistake so Brad Pitt's reaction was quite genuine lol Watching this movie more than once is a must so you can enjoy all the little hints that Tyler isn’t “real”. Like the zoom in on the pay phone saying it doesn’t accept incoming calls, the opening lines being “I know this because Tyler knows this…” all the little things that you might miss the first time around but can start piecing together once you know what to look for. Keep up the good work.
I really admire the acting talent on display here. Through various techniques (some of which are just that, technical, and some of which are emotional processes) the actors give the characters a life of their own. It’s fascinating. Anyone who has lied or pretended to be something they’re not is aware that they’re acting at some level. Sometimes we pretend to ourselves to push us past our self-limitations and comfort zones, to do something we wouldn’t normally do. Actors of this caliber take this behavior to the level of art. I really wish I could do thay.
Fight club is always on the lists of best films ever, and there is a reason for that, surely Brad Pitt plays this charecter to perfection, its just good charecters, and good acting right.. the most important ingrediens to make a great movie.. if the script is good to surely..
Fun fact: did you know the judge who stands up to tell Marty his band is too darn loud is actually Huey Lewis? (yeah this just goes everywhere every time now, for what movie doesn't matter)
I realised how funny Edward Norton can be when watching Death to Smoochy (2002). It's a tough job playing against Robin Williams and Danny DeVito and still grab a few laughs.
This is another movie where I can say that I appreciate it more than I enjoy it. It is brilliantly put together and has some important messages about society. I very much worry about the many people that seem to think the main character/hallucination as a role model of some kind. Really enjoyed your reaction.
Hello Emma, the young, blonde and handsome looking Man is Jared Leto, the Frontman of the Band 30 SECONDS TO MARS. They make excellent Music. And Jared had won an Oscar. Greetings from the Man with the 1000 Movies. (Joke, i have more.)
This Film is indeed a powerful/raw and often painful watch as we watch a deeply troubled man descend into his own deep psychosis, spiraling downwards on an ever destructive path; At the outset of the Film we watch as Edward Norton's nameless character attends a Men's support group, and although at first it seems to be enough, ultimately it isn't as he finds that he needs ever more extreme and painful measures to cope; Thus Fight Club is born and it quickly escalates as more and more men join up to experience a raw/painful set of emotions that they normally can't access; Some simple rules are put in place, but eventually the death of a fellow member sparks a reaction, but is it too late to come back from the abyss; Both Norton and Brad Pitt match each other with some strong acting, and a good supporting cast, with special mention to Helena Bonham Carter who always delivers with often quirky characters; For my own part I believe we see Emma at her quintessential best as her inner-goodness/sincerity/kindness and strong moral code reacts to the mayhem that is unfolding on screen; Moments to do with the fight scenes, the attaining of some blood for future use and general disruptive behaviour sees Emma's kind, compassionate and charming nature shine out; Top notch. 🦅😍🥰🙏👏👍🙏🎶🎵🎧🎙🎬🍵🍁🍁🦅.
Please watch and react Requiem for a Dream. It is very hard to see, but this film should be shown to everyone. After that, you might not want to try hard drugs.
Like I said in Seven you should watch The Game 1997 with Michael Douglas (Another David Finch movie like this) . It is a once in a lifetime movie. You can not recreate the first time you see it. Also a great movie with Edward Norton os The Illusionist 2006
The dialogue in this movie is fantastic. The philosophies thought provoking at the very least. An epic movie n not surprised, it's a Fincher movie, genius. Most guys consider this a great movie, a lot of women just see it as gross or violent lol, it's okay, they just don't get it
I was involved in a fight club when I was in junior high. Everyday after lunch a group of us would meet behind one of the portable classrooms and 2 would be picked for a slap fight.. no fists. It was all in good fun until we were caught by Coach Kulka. We each got a swat on the butt from Kulka's paddle and that ended our slap fights. BTW, Coach Kulka was a retired Marine who fought in WW2. His biceps were solid muscle 💪 and bigger than my thighs. I'm 77 and swear I can still feel the sting of that paddle.
Several aspects of this film is brilliant in illustrating the shorthand, direct, get-to-the-point essentials that many men have between them that I've rarely noticed between women (for whatever reasons that may be). Probably my favorite line demonstrating this is when they first enter Tyler's house and he takes him up to his room and simply says: _"That's you, that's the toilet. Good?"_ _"Yeah, thanks."_ And they are done, no meandering build up or chat, everything needed has been conveyed in a few seconds.
Emma? I’m gonna be 100 here. You may want to pace yourself. There are a finite number of classic films. There is a concern you’ll run out after a while. Just a note…
This is a repost from her old deleted channel. I disagree with Biggary that they need to be relabeled. If you’ve already seen the reaction and don’t want to see it again, watch something else. Edit: I’ll concede that she should indicate it’s a repost from her lost channel in the video description.

Meatloaf is great in this. Last thing I saw him in was Rocky Horror.
I know it's a great reaction, will watch after the Miami hurricanes game, gave it a thumbs up because it deserved it

Seven then Fight Club ? Don't you have a little crush on young Brad ? Well, then let's react to Interview with a vampire :p (Hello ! )
Been looking forward to this, you did not disappoint!
Please watch and react Requiem for a Dream. It is very hard to see, but this film should be shown to everyone. After that, you might not want to try hard drugs.
Everybody should watch this movie at least once. Some should see it twice.
If you think Brad Pitt is out there as an alternative personality, you should see him as Early Grayce in Kalifornia.
Thanks for watching my movie, Emma. Enjoying your channel.

Now you know why David Fincher is the 🐐
At what? Not filmmaking.
Great reaction to this classic late 90s movie I saw this a lot as a kid.
Kinda interesting: three singers were in this movie, all in non-singing roles: Meat Loaf, Jared Leto, and Ed Kowalczyk
Yes you are right 😂 it could be funny to see how they sing here🤪
IDK. A place where people can fight w/o hate or repercussions might be a good idea
Thanks you for the ever tru reaction. From Russia with loveree.
