    When it comes to Baelish as king, an old quote comes to mind.

      He’d be the biggest pedophile! Baelish’s love life during his youth was cut short by stronger suitors. Dating a woman with her own strengths would reignite painful memories for him and restore a deep fear of her leaving him. Baelish would start with a younger lover that he could easily manipulate, then a teenager, like Sansa, then, an actual child! Baelish was incapable of love and only wanted control!

    What if Ned actually didn't make the same mistakes in Canon. An was a bit more pragmatic in politics and knows when to and i quote *(Put his honor aside)* like say not tell Cersei he knows about her, the kids and Jaime and tell her to run for it, cause he plans to tell Robert.

    • @TheFandomeClips

      I think that's a tough one, just because ripping away Neds honor is ripping away Neds fundamental core as a character. But I definitely think had he played it smart and thrown in with Renly they could have secured much more favourable circumstances with which to beat the Lannisters.

      It depends of who people he listen and who he put aside :
      Trust Littlefinger = keep Pycell and Slint , put aside Stannis, Renly and Varys , take Joffrey to a hunt or sword practice ,tell him that he is cool and Cersei is boring and weak and convince him to sent Myrcella and Tommen to winterfel
      Backlash : maybe Stannis and Renly are uniting their power ( because the Lannisters have 4 kingdoms behind their back ) and unite against you the Dorne ,Stormlands and the Reach where KL is not ready, that will pretty much broke Ned and he gets replace by Tywin

    • @timurjack8773
      @timurjack8773 14 дней назад

      Littlefinger is paying City Watch and Ned needed them to win. Littlefinger would tell Cersei anyways so Ned couldn't take Kings landing from Lannisters. Only if Ned sides with Renly, and doesn't trust Littlefinger, then Renly's and Tyrells men in Kings Landing, they could perhaps take the city from Lannisters and City Watch, and Tywin probably wouldn't risk to fight an alliance such as Tyrell, Baratheon, Starks, Tully, he would draw his forces from Riverlands. Then its up to decide if Stannis would still use dark magic to kill Renly or not, if Ned and Renly has the Kings Landing, Stannis probably would try to negotiate with Ned first on Kings Landing and wait until Lannisters are defeated.

      Why? He doesn't care for the common people (look how he is prepared to drive up corn prices to line his own pocket - or how treats Jeyne Poole, for that matter), he's manipulated his way to power under the system as it is. You don't overturn a social order in which you are winning. The only reason he might seek to change the system would be if his chosen King got a little too independent (but Kings can always be removed with a swift dagger or drop of poison, which is much safer).

    He could raise the crowns army. Joffrey mentioned the idea and seeing how crucial the Lannister army was in the war of the five kings acting as de facto crown's army. He may want to have a system of defence in the case of any uprising. He could recruit high ranking officers from the lower lords pulling some power from the high lords and ensuring loyalty of the officers. That would centralise power in the hands of the crown while "flattening" the structure of the feudal system.

    I’ve mentioned this over in the discord but I think realistically the closest little finger can get to sitting on the throne would be to become hand of the king. Which I remember hearing Jaime thought he would be one of the best options to be Tommens hand. With Kevin dead he and Mace Tyrell must be the only real options for hand of the king and we all know that Ceresi is no big fan of the Tyrells. I don’t know if little finger would take the offer or not it’s hard to say he’s probably decently content in the Vale. Awesome video as always from you guys!

      It wouldn't take much for Ned to come out on top in KL. It really doesn't. I don't think warning Cersei does much as she would be likely to sieze power whether Ned tells on her or not. She wants it too much and hates him too much. The problem was his potential ally in Renly abandoned him too early, and he was outbid on the city watch issue.
      Had Renly stuck around, or manoeuvred a few more of his allies into the capital earlier (which as Master of Laws he can do - He is technically the Goldcloaks boss so he should have been stacking them with his supporters well in advance) then things would go very differently.

  • @neodigremo
    @neodigremo 17 дней назад +4

    Hmmmm.
    He is competent and skilful in terms of what he can do. I think he would in theory be capable of being a decent king in terms of his abilities.
    However I do not think he would be a good king for 2 reasons. First, he has a personality that would prevent him from creating genuine allies which will limit his ability to have backing for any changes he wants. This would lead him to needing to spend a fair bit of time shutting down rivalries and so on.
    Secondly, he has no actual intention or desire to do good things. He would not work to benefit the people. They do not matter anything to him except as pawns.
    I think my thoughts are he is excellent at playing the game of thrones and could become a ruler fairly skilfully. However he does not have the traits to be a good ruler for the kingdom.
    Edit: Second thought - I never get the sense from him that he is interested in any type of real egalitarianism. He only really cares about being in charge himself not the system itself. I get the idea is that this is the better thought for the video but I don't buy it for Littlefinger.

      @@TheFandomeClips That is a way better way of saying it than I did!!
      Although I think he would be far more disciplined than Robert so not lose his edge as much, but also be far less able to unite a realm under him than Robert was.
      Random thought - What would Bobby B be like as a king had he had to deal with another civil war earlier into his reign? I imagine him ruling during a time of Ninepenny kings or Blackfyre rebellions would have kept him active enough to stave off some of the worst of his vices and play to his strengths somewhat.

    to be fair to George it is extremely hard to produce high quality writing and writing can easily take years to accomplish. its easy for consumers to consume but for writers it can be very Mentally challenging and Taxing to create a high quality story you can theorize about. and sometimes you do need a period of time to "Recover" i would not be surprised if it took five more years for George to release more content. dont forget that it is very mentally taxing to create high quality content. Great ideas enjoy this. Curious on would varys not be a factor or obstacle. I think in order to get varys on side littlefinger would need to share some of his plan but this not in nature as like people to guess his true nature that way able change sides or back side that suits his plan. Varys is a factor as equally plays the game and wouldn't necessary go along with littlefinger puppet proxy in charge unless it suit varys as well.

    Peter is smart to not be big. He would pull a Tywin and be the shadow king whos in charge of the crowned king and has more power than him. He knows he’s not of a good house and he knees being a king puts a target on his back. Also he has someone to blame. If everyone starts getting mad at the “king” he’ll replace him and reset everyone’s rage. realistically Peter is just Tywin but more smarter and doesn’t have the crutch of improving his family name. if Peter was from a powerful house like Lannister or Tully than he’d be more ruthless than Tywin.

He also clearly is already more unstable than he seems judging by his feelings about the women in his life. I'm not saying he'd have a full crisis, but that he'd I'm just crash, at least for a while. At the very least he'd lose interest for the most part. I'm not sure he could honestly justify expanding westeros overseas as being worth the trouble for instance

    to support the idea of what Baelish is up to keep in mind, Baelish knows you can't really buy a man with gold.
    Now look at the people he trusts, as much as he trusts anyone. Look at how the men he put in the treasury department are described. Merchants, sons of minor lords, hedge knights. All of low birth all out performing the highborn men they replaced. Look at the Kettlebacks. Three goons he tricks Tyrion into hiring to spy on Cersei so he can spy on them both. Their dad is his Castlelain. Not hard to imagine he has known those guys his whole life. Lothar Brune, a very capable hedge knight who is Sansa's handler.
    And it can not be stressed how traumatic the duel with Brandon was. He almost died with the physical, mental, and emotional scars that persist to this day.
    I think Baelish is the red flag of any idea this is a story that ends in any kind of democracy... if it was... a guy like him would be the hero of the story. Not the hidden prince. Not a mother of dragons. Not the dwarf son of the most powerful guy in the land. It would be Baelish, Dunk, and Bronn. Or at least people like them.

    I always assumed little finger meant to ride his chaos to the top, I mean the ladder metaphor implies climbing all the way.
    Besides he was always perfectly happy to burn everything down and scrape something out of the ashes.
    Once Robert took the throne the line of succession was tenuous at best, the war of the five kings made it worse and the Lannisters will get what’s coming to them eventually.
    So like if all five kings plus the lannisters are gone who could stop a resurgent little finger?
    With a big enough army and the entire continent in ruined he could theoretically be king of the ashes and would likely be fine with that trade.
    A guy like that places little value on actual physical things, money and cities and all the pretty things a kingdom has means nothing to someone like that.
    He’s kinda like Vergil from DMC, a guy who will burn the Forrest just to get a better look at the trees.

    On Baelish end goal. End of his ladder. Littlefinger search of power is to ensure he can never be felt weak ever again. Remember that Nate Brother beat Littlefinger when he was younger. He made him feel small. Weak. Baelish believes that by gaining power he can prevent himself from feeling this ever again. It drives him.

  • @donalny
    @donalny 15 дней назад +1

    There's no proof that Baelish feels any sort of kinship with common folk. He certainly hasn't done a thing that could be viewed as altruistic for them. It is all about him. He doesn't want to overthrow the old system. It works perfectly fine for him. He just feels personally slighted by the people in charge of it. He's a narcissist settling his gripes. At most, he would expand the bureaucracy so he can fill the spots with people loyal to him. So, the noble houses can have their titles and names, he'll have the true power.
    He would be more of a Cardinal Richlieu type. The power behind the throne. King in everything but name. He probably wants Sansa as queen so he can knock her up and know secretly it is his bloodline ruling Westeros.

  • @thomasconnors4338

    Littlefinger wouldn’t overturn feudalism but he’d complicate taxation and public works to the point that the game became completely unplayable for almost anyone who wasn’t both incredibly wealthy and incredibly shrewd. He’d force his lords to spend money while hobbling their ability to collect more from the peasants with reforms. Fine them for breaches of the peace on their lands, then secretly support the iron born and the brotherhood without banners. Don’t let them punish the farmers too harshly, but demand they store up more food for winter. Monopolize money lending thru the iron throne- you can’t borrow from the Lannisters, I will borrow from the Lannisters and you will borrow from me. But don’t corner them- don’t try to take away their castle or empty their granaries- have them send a small contingent- maybe 5 or 10% of their men at arms to The Wall to satisfy their debts. It’s only a small decrease in their ability to make war… for now. And since you can’t afford do all of the things I require for stability of the realm, send me some of your less productive or less ruly peasants for service in Kings Landing… I promise not to raise a royal army of what are effectively slave soldiers from them… and I definitely won’t command their loyalty by reminding them that you threw them out of their home and that I took them in and gave them a way to live that didn’t involve sending their sister to the brothel.
    By the end of winter King’s Landing boasts the largest army in the kingdoms, everyone else is weaker, the poor lords are grateful to King Littlefinger for not making them pay in gold, the rich lords have a sunk cost that they can’t simply come and take back against the huge Royal army, and the last hanging chad is that all of this centrally controlled manpower requires a lot of food and the crown is in debt- so you play the Tyrells against the Lannisters and support the Tyrells to cut the throne’s debt in half while keeping the food flowing. And while you’re at it, time to resolve that issue of you secretly having the iron born plunder your own kingdoms to bankrupt lords by turning them privateer and sending them to reave off of other continents.

    my own theory is that Little finger hired the faceless men to kill the starks. Like i think its obvious but, everyone else missed it.
    1. Faceless men are first brought up by Ned, and little finger tells him all about them right down to how much they cost to kill a high lord. guys sometimes the dude who knows the cost of the whores is the guy buying whores.
    2. Little finger says correctly that faceless men are crazy expensive they would cost an entire kingdom. Hes the mast of coin, and some how the realm is 'a kingdom in debt'.
    3. in book 3 we find out that Little Finger has been embezzling the kingdoms money when half the jailers he staffs dont even exist.
    4. theres only a hand full of people who could have possibly come up with this amount of money like in the entire kingdom 30. 7 high lords their master of coins, a few of the lesser rich houses like redwine or hightower, and perhaps at a stretch some rich traders like the Acinet Guild of Splicers.
    5. 3 faceless men(biter and rouge) were caught in the black cells at the start of book 2. theirs only so many people clever enough to trap them, and it was most likely the person who knew the name of person they were to kill. who ever little finger wanted dead he no longer wanted dead. I think I know who that is.
    6. Little finger wants someone dead in book 1 but theres no way he can kill him.
    When you put it all together theres nobody else it could have been. I also have a firm idea of who he wanted dead, and what his plan was.

    I think Littlefinger would actually be a decent ruler (probably as hand of king for a weak king like Tommen or Robyn). He’s smart, good with money, ruthless against enemies. A choirboy makes a poor Hand (see Ned). Tywin was actually a very good Hand for 20 years. I doubt Littlefinger would try to overthrow the nobility. Once he was in charge I think he’d be quite happy with the system (especially if got Sansa to marry him). He’s not a champion of the people he’s only in it for himself. But he would be a better ruler then Joffrey, Robert, or the Mad king (a low bar admittedly).

    So Littlefinger is a medieval version of Mr. House?

  • @adamcahoon6362
    @adamcahoon6362 17 дней назад

    In terms of his intentions, as cool of an idea it is to think that Littlefinger wants to bring the feudal system in favor of a capitalist meritocracy is, I don't think it jives with his role in the story. To me, its clear that Littlefinger's role in the story is largely meant to be Sansa's guide to politics and her primary obstacle to overthrow so she can take her place on the Westerosi political stage as a key power player (I personally think her story ends with her as the Lady of Winterfell and/or the Trident but I can be persuaded as to what exact role she'll have in the end).
    So, if Littlefinger has this motivation, how does that help Sansa's narrative to that end? I suppose it could become her motivation at the end of the story but I think most people would find an ending where the hero embraces the villain's ideology that inspired said villain to kill hero's family in significant numbers. TLDR: I think it just complicates the story in ways that don't really say anything new and simply making his aim be becoming the most powerful person in westeros largely would have the same effect with less problems for GRRM. And at this late in the game, GRRM doesn't need more complications.

  • @dawn4383

    Personally, I lean Kleptocracy. Not because I think Littlefinger lacks any skills but because I think he doesn't want anyone as skilled as himself in government. I don't doubt he'd destroy the nobility if he could, but more as revenge for his perceived lack of privilege rather than any idealistic meritocracy in mind. In his mind, he'd rather be the only smart guy in the room, and any improvements to Westeros or its people would be purely coincidental, after all what have they ever done for him?

Crisis capitalism comes to mind.
