Boy George is probably the most under appreciated singer from the 80s, and he was masterful in front of the camera in all his videos with his dance moves, eye contact and hand movements. This track is arguably one of their finest - just a perfect storm of George's vocals, the motown infused sound, harmonica intro, Helen Terry's amazing backing voice, and a video that is pure art - such an uplifting song from a group that was ahead of its time.
I understand what you mean by him being underappreciated but still he became extremely famous and lasted the test of time. Boy George is now legendary status.
I think his SINGING OVERSHADOWED his appearance. Where I was (Seattle), once he opened his mouth to sing, his appearance became a "non-issue", it didn't matter anymore.
Yes, very handsome - and it's amazing that he was able to take on this gender-bending look in such a powerful way at a time when there was still a lot of violence and mistrust against gay people in England, and when AIDS was steamrolling through the news.
Helen Terry had an Aretha Franklin voice. She was so good. If you listen to "Black Money", you will understand my reference. Rest in peace, Miss Aretha Franklin!
Respect to George for giving the amazing Helen Terry her fair share of time in the spotlight and credit for her considerable contribution to many of the band's hits in official videos and stage performances. The two harmonised very nicely together and he clearly genuinely appreciated her as a great artist in her own right.
I just listened to this video side by side with a current tour performance (7-28-23), it's AMAZING the difference Helen makes! The song sounds so much BETTER with her on it!🎶🎶
Never understood why she was never officially part of the band. Helen's voice popped up in enough Culture Club songs, she was pretty present in videos and appearances and her singing was (sorry Boy George fans) more soulful.
Dave B Boy George was doubly blessed. A world class set of vocal chords paired with a bit of genius for songwriting. One of the most gifted talents I can think of.

What a contagious fun upbeat song!! Contagious in a good way!! You could hear this song over and over and never get sick of it!! Loved it then and will always will!!
For me, this song is the absolute masterpiece of culture club and the video is sweet. The duet of Boy George and the lady with the short hair is sensational, their voices are complementing each other so well. Beside that, Boy George is so pretty (actually beautiful with sparkling eyes etc) and flirtatious. No wonder that both men and women fell for him. What artists! Where are such of this kind nowadays?
I always felt that Boy George’s controversial image distracted most from the fact that they made extremely well crafted blue eyed soul. Helen Terry hits all the right notes here.
Seeing things now, I'm convinced he was a head of his time and courageous! His image should should distract anyone from his artistic genius. I mean I grew up in the deep south and deep in church but I thought both he and his music were beautiful and transcendant. I mean look at that face! Such a sweet young boy!
I agree. That voice! That delivery! That Boy could sing. I don't think he realized or appreciated it at that time. Seems like he was more into the look than the music at that time. Things have changed with maturity.
Loved when George brought Helen Terry into the mix as their back up singer for a bit. She had a kick a$$ voice and not only did it compliment George’s vocals, it also gave Culture Club a new edge to their songs.
I was 12 when this came out,as I sat and watched this I was thinking about how much are world has changed since than. We grew up in a great era I wouldn't trade that time for anything in the world
Ah, people my age that truly understand how great the 80s were, and still are. May the 80s live forever. A decade of fun and celebration. Wish I could go back in time.
BG stood out from the crowd for his fantastic vocals, great grooves, originality, and unapologetic gayness at a time when that would subject him to endless hate and ridicule. He's a true brave pioneer.
These blokes were quite really ahead of their time with their dubious sexuality and not making a big fuss about it like today's freaks. Miss the 80s so much.
Absolutely agree no one cared about a person's preference then. Now everyone has a cause or hang up it's gone beyond stupid. Back then creativity was celebrated and we all had fun.
Im glad he was able to get his life and career back on track. Im hoping hes been able to keep it that way. It sucks to see someone who brings so much happiness to so many people literally living in hell. Even if this isnt your chosen genre of music you must be able to appreciate the pure talent that so many famous musicians couldnt come close to like he can. The group was so unique in its style i dont know of anyone that could pull that off again
Man! when I say we had some of the best music! Singers, bands and the orchestra were unbelievable! It will never be another time like the time of the 80s.
I was 10 when Culture Club came out but you can always recall George was a one off and wrote great songs. When i watched him on the Voice you came to appreciate that he has the smarts too. I saw CC in Dublin last night supported by Heaven 17 and Tony hadley....One of the best shows ever. Firstly singers from the 1980s could sing and made timeless music. George has such soul in his voice ..And it was one of the best shows id see for another reason. George has such clarity to his voice that you can understand the lyrics if you didnt know the song. The show was enhanced by the band the great production and wonderful backing singers too
"I had to fight to make this mine", and "just move your feet and you'll feel fine" are my 2 fav lyrics of this song, and love his eyebrows in this video. He makes me happy. At least this song and video does.

My children in 2024: dad, can we go to the 80s please!
🔥🔥🔥 Helen Terry’s vocals on this is insane♥️♥️♥️
l like jordan😭😭😭🥰🥰🥰😍😍😍😘😘😘👩❤️💋👨👩❤️💋👨👩❤️💋👨
I was definitely born in the wrong era! I'm 20 and love all the older music, Culture Club is one of my favourite bands, I've has privilege of seeing them live and meeting them multiple times now, they're all really sweet, especially Mikey! Songs like this bring me so much joy! Oh, to have been alive back then!
My son, born in the 2000's, says the exact same thing all the time. He wishes that he was born in the late 70's/early 80's. He constantly plays his guitar to all of the 80's music, loves The Cure...
I had all their albums you’re lucky that you get to meet them and you’re 20 I didn’t get to meet him The 80s were the best keep rocking those 80s
Same. Old musicians and their creations are precious than diamonds.
Wow you’re younger than me and you met them first? Lol
@@TisEYEthe1 You raised him right! 😁
The 1980's. A time of GREAT MUSIC and MEMORABLE SONGS!
Glad to have enjoyed this decade. Thank you, Culture Club, for defining our age!
The woman doing the backing vocals has an amazing voice!! Love this song
It is my uttermost pleasure seeing your amazing and pleasant comment on my movie channel. 😍This really brought great joy to my heart, remain blessed. I know you will be shock Seeing my mail, that to show you how grateful I’m. feel free to contact me anytime..
@@boygeorge896 ♥️ you!!
Helen Terry is the backing vocalist.
Jon rocked this song! I'm VERY SAD that he was kicked out of the band.😢
CHURCH OF THE POSION MIND IS THE BEST SONG OF 1983. I STILL LOVE IT AS MUCH AS 1983.
Amen!
SOUTHBURY Frank , long live Culture Club and the 80s.
I love the tune but 83/84 was incredible with all the great songs on the pop charts. Its staggering the amount of hits
Reminds me of Motown and northern soul.
Very Motown sounding
カルチャーClubのMVを観た時の衝撃は、今でも覚えてます。
ボーイジョージの衣装や髪型が、とても新鮮でした!
この時代の洋楽は、最高です❤
that wink at the end, right before George breaks into laughter. so charming!
Gary, I love it too!
Yeah!! Break out some laughter at the Prosperity Gospel-it needs some mud in its eye!!
Ugh he was the cutest thing back then! Too bad I’m no 80s teen
I always loved this song. Boy George & Helen Terry sound great together. She's so underrated. She has such a powerful beautiful voice!!!
Massive respect to the backing vocalists who makes this song , superb 👏
Helen Terry.... she was vital to this band and it's success
@@wpochert 100% , when you have a voice like that you're always onto a winner.
Church of the poison mind, such an appropriate title.
What a contagious fun upbeat song!! Contagious in a good way!! You could hear this song over and over and never get sick of it!! Loved it then and will always will!!
He based it on Stevie Wonder's "Uptight."
Absolutely.
So long ago, but it seems like it was yesterday every time I hear it. The '80s were the best.
Amen!!
Amen.
Boy George knew he could sing... The lady voice in the background makes the song magic.. Oh the 80’s , so much fun
For me, this song is the absolute masterpiece of culture club and the video is sweet.
The duet of Boy George and the lady with the short hair is sensational, their voices are complementing each other so well.
Beside that, Boy George is so pretty (actually beautiful with sparkling eyes etc)
and flirtatious.
Helen Terry is awesome.
I m etero. But the young George boy was really a beautiful boy. Or girl. 😂 It depend. He was versatile.
I agree and I am not gay.
Still righteous in 2019! Helen Terry rips it up in those backing vocals!
Amazing
Her vocals were awesome !
Astonishing! X✌️🤑🏆
You ain't kidding!!!!
Helen Terry is my favourite things about Culture Club, and that says a lot. Such a great singer!
I cannot get over this man's voice. Genius.
i love boy george forever and ever
Since all of the drug abuse, Like Whitney Houston, he's lost a great deal of his voice. Watch him on "The View", his vocals are just awful.
He is cool. I love his voice. Also, a new album is coming out soon. (Well, at least I heard.)
It's a little raspy but I like the more mature sound bro
True that. I hated CC back in the 80s but now Boy George's voice (from the 80s) sounds, to me, outstanding.
Loved when George brought Helen Terry into the mix as their back up singer for a bit. She had a kick a$$ voice and not only did it compliment George’s vocals, it also gave Culture Club a new edge to their songs.
Just saw CC 8-04-2023. Amazing show! Berlin and Howard Jones opened. Clarkston, Michigan at Pine Knob. So much talent!!
Great show. I was there too!
One of his most upbeat songs. Makes you wanna dance.
Boy george es el mas guapo de yodo europa te amo mi amor
And hes on tour right now. Go get em George.
This song was released way ahead of its time. Makes me wanna go out & have a great time.
This is one of the most uplifting songs of the 80's
Yes this is my go to happy song! Dusty the 2nd.
Amen!
I was 12 when this came out,as I sat and watched this I was thinking about how much are world has changed since than. We grew up in a great era I wouldn't trade that time for anything in the world
The 80's were so awesome & fun! We were lucky to have been 80's Teens...wish I had a time machine to go back!
Me too, it was a great age...
Ah, people my age that truly understand how great the 80s were, and still are. May the 80s live forever. A decade of fun and celebration. Wish I could go back in time.
: )
Music bery Na.....
BG stood out from the crowd for his fantastic vocals, great grooves, originality, and unapologetic gayness at a time when that would subject him to endless hate and ridicule. He's a true brave pioneer.
Awesome Helen Terry on backing vocals
Still signing in the Church of the Poison Mind!
Come on folks, what a magnificent voice this man projects. He is one of the best and we all know it! My favorite song of Culture Club.
Is it just me, or does Jon really get into it on the last chorus part. (Starting at 2:50) Love ya Culture Club.
To bad they don't make music like this anymore. ❤
Darling George a legend thank you so much for your beautiful music and memories
I SO MISS George's 80's voice!!
One of favorite classic songs by this classic band. ❤
Real music, real bands, the Brits at their very best!!!
Boy George and Helen Terry, the best duo ever!
Brawling in pubs from the 80s through the 90s never once did we question the identity of his music ...
Man! when I say we had some of the best music! Singers, bands and the orchestra were unbelievable! It will never be another time like the time of the 80s.
This is one of those songs that’s so upbeat and fun. Also, this is one of those lost 80’s hits. Highly underrated song
A punk band with so much soul. Definitely the sounds of the 80"s.
The show was enhanced by the band the great production and wonderful backing singers too
Even people back in the 80s who didn't want to admit they liked culture club, really did love their music 👌
My mom loved to hear him sing!
My favourite song of the 80’s! Must be why I’m top 0.05% of culture club listeners on Spotify 😊
Get it Ms Helen Terry! What a powerful soulful voice coming straight outta the UK!
Ohmygod, I LOVE her voice!! So soulful!! ❤️
@@moonchild1772 She's definitely amazing and deserves way more recognition than she gets!
makes me miss the dance clubs from the late 80's
Helen Terry sings bodacious backup/featured vocals!
This is all opraetta 🦁
Best song they ever did. Lyrically and structurally superb.
Incredible band.
"I had to fight to make this mine", and "just move your feet and you'll feel fine" are my 2 fav lyrics of this song, and love his eyebrows in this video. He makes me happy. At least this song and video does.
Can you explain those lyrics? I dont get it
It is my uttermost pleasure seeing your amazing and pleasant comment on my movie channel. 😍This really brought great joy to my heart
@@boygeorge896 Love you and hope you are real here. So glad they let you back into the US.
@@dustythe2nd188 I really appreciate you for being a great fan of mine
This is what happens when the best drummer, guitairist and singer gets together. Every instrument speaks to us.
This is one of the most interesting, well created songs of the last century. The vocals ,the arregement, the visuals. Pure art.
Man u know your SHIT....Music that is, my son
Pure brilliance
IT'S NOT ___, IT'S MUSIC, QUIT USIN THE FIRST PART OF MY FIRST NAME (AND ALSO MY DEARLY DEPARTED DAD'S!)😭😟😡😠👎
They were the 80's, a magical time, how I miss it.
I’m a rock guy but this is a classic, the best song they ever did
I'm more or less in the same boat as you.
Beautiful. Mary Hopkins sings like an angel and really nice to hear peter Skellan's voice again. A great song all round.
