George O”Dowd was a fantastic soulful singer back in the day. Everybody got preoccupied with the whole Boy George look but his music and band created some of the best pop music of the early 80s. A bIg shout out to Helen Terry who sang back up on many of their classics too
I don't know why your comment reminded me of his song, "Don't Take My Mind on a Trip". I had the "cassingle" and played the heck out of it! I've gotta go look that up. 😁

He turned and looked down at me, pointed to the screen and told me, "Look, it's Boy George. He sounds like Smokey Robinson." I smiled and nodded.
Whoever wrote/created the different parts for all these instruments to play together is really amazing. The string line was stunning!..it supports the Vocal yet it was commanding without over powering the Vocal. The bass line was very groovy...not busy all the time but with enough gap in between the notes to give the beautiful 'flavour' required. The Melody of the vocal is quite simple, but the arrangement propelled it high.
