This is the hands down the best review I have seen and your riding demo portion (especially with you talking us through navigating in the twisty roads with instructions was a game changer) finalized my decision. I was between this and the Yamaha MT-07, but now you have sold me on the Rebel.
I can't thank you enough. I'm fairly new to riding and this is the perfect bike for me.
You certainly earned a new sub and I hope you blow up in popularity.

Thank you P, I am so happy that you found the video helpful!! During my research for a new bike, i wanted to know what a DCT could do, for example can it handle my aggressive riding style when i'm in the mood to twist the throttle? So i tried to answer the questions i had before getting the bike in hopes it will help someone make a better decision on the bike they choose. Thank you for sharing P!!

Great video. This Rebel is the second DCT bike I had (NC750S). Before I purchased 1100, I had my eyes on Indian , Triumph Bobber and HD883. Then, I decided to go for DCT again because (1) I have many stop-and-go situations in where I live and (2) I am a casual long distance rider . It is amazing to know people from different worlds have so many same perceptions about how Rebel 1100 can do. I would recommend you engine guards - in addition to its own purpose, you can put fog lights and foot rests on.

Nice Video! Going with your comment about high speed wobble, it may be worth look at the phone placement. I watched one of "Life of Burch" videos about the Rebel and he had the same issue. He said as soon as he moved his phone the problem was fixed. I can't wait till next summer to get this motorcycle!

    • @ontherebel11
      @ontherebel11  Год назад

Thank you Corey! FYI, Burch, quasi and I have concluded that the phone is not the cause of the wobble, Burch's latest video demonstrates the wobble even with new suspension. In my case i'm fortunate to have eliminated all wobbles with a set of new fantastic tires and running a stiffer preload on the rear shocks, 7,000 miles free from any high speed wobbles.

And she loves the automatic transmission and how she can get the feeling of changing gears without having to learn to ride a manual. I can see this bike lasting her a long time. It's a really cool little bike and the DCT makes riding much less Intimidating for inexperienced riders.

Speed wobble is due to the stock tires, not the phone mount.
Burch did claim it was the phone mount, but later changed his position, stating he was wrong, and the stock tires were the absolute cause of the wobble.

Honda CMX1100 DCT weighs 509 pounds. Honda CRF1100L DCT (Africa Twin) weighs 524 pounds. Stats are from Official Honda Sites for each bike. AT actually comes in four Models in USA for 2021 and newer: non-DCT, non Electric (aka/Electronic), DCT, DCT with ES.
DCT with ES is nearly 560 lbs !!! ES Models carry 1.5 gallons more gas.

I was curious about how the dct performed I can tell from this video it's awsome. I ride my bike back and forth to work and ride on the weekends but am planning on longer trips. I think with a better seat and highway bars this bike will do everything I want it to.

Thank you Tommy! Yes sir, I've had the pleasure of riding countless bikes, and this is the first DCT I've ever ridden, to some it might not meet their expectations, but in all honesty it exceeded all of mine. Still after all these months that I've had the bike, I still smile when I feel the torque and enjoy the handling characteristics while taking corners, not to mention the ease of shifting with the shifters, I had planned on getting a second bike but after some reflection, I am no longer interested, this bike does it all for me, it is a powerful lightweight touring bike that is different from anything out there, at the same time when I want to enjoy a sporty bike it is right there for me. It's different, it has character and curb appeal. Other manufacturers have started to catch up and only now have started to introduce an automatic transmission. Without hesitation or any reservations, I would tour the whole country with the rebel 1100 DCT, and I hope to be able to do it as soon as the opportunity presents itself. Please reach out to me if you have any questions about the bike and I'll be happy to give you an honest answer.

I have about 2000 miles on my 1100 DCT. I agree with your review and love the bike. The seat was a problem. I’ve been a fan of Sargent seats for a long time. Although they don’t yet offer a Rebel seat, they do take your stock seat pan and build a wonderful custom Sargent seat on it. Now my seat is super comfortable. Just bought one and I'm here to say I 100% agreed with all of this. This bike is just so much fun to ride. It's not the fastest thing on two wheels but you forget about that when you finally hit the pegs in the corner. The left side of the bike is a little loud especially with mine being completely stock but I think with just a few personal things this will be a bike that can last me years not just a season. Thanks for your great review on this amazing bike.

Givi makes engine guards for the 500 giviusa.com/collections/cmx-500-rebel-17-19/products/tn1160-engine-guards , i like the low profile, i'm optimistic that they will make ones for the 1100, Motea have some that are similar, but a little too big. I haven't found any fog lights that caught my eye yet, but i will have a better idea where to place them and how they will fit in once i have the batwing and engine guards installed. Regarding footpegs, i saw these that caught my eye, so something along this theme (black and brown) of elegant yet different puigusa.com/en/tuning-motos/footpegs/vintage-footpegs?bike=29329#responsivetab3
I'm trying to be patient this year as i know all the big companies such as swmotech, givi and puig will need a little time to design and manufacture items for the 1100 given the current situation.

@@ontherebel11 I'm really intrigued. The Rebel 1100 only hit my radar as a possibility a day ago. I knew of it but I just wasn't looking at it because of the chain drive but if I get past that either the standard (or now the DCT) really hits all the details that interest me except for not being belt (or shaft) drive. I think I'd really dig the paddle shifters in manual mode. I drove stick for 45 years and when I just couldn't replace my last truck a couple years ago with a stick I was really irritated and bummed. First, huge thank you for your windscreen/batwing installation video. I never couldn't have installed mine without your video! Second, I'm 5'8" and find the seat curvature absolutely intolerable for more than 20min. My tailbone goes numb after a short ride and moving around in different spots on the seat has no effect. At first I thought it was the positioning of the bars and controls but after 1000 miles, and adding an air cushion, I have realized that is is indeed the way the seat is curved. I've ridden WAY more cramped position bikes than this one that are far more comfortable. Just looking for any remedy at all as I love everything else about this bike and seeing if I can avoid spending $800 on a new Corbin seat.

    • @ontherebel11
      @ontherebel11  2 года назад +2

Hi James! you are welcome brother, i'm glad you found the install video helpful! I know exactly how you feel regarding the seat, i dealt with a ton of tailbone pain from the stock seat as well.... like you i hesitated to buy off the shelf and opted for a custom fit. Based on my experience so far, it is not just the shape that is causing my pain, but also how hard the OEM foam is.... I have reupholstered 2 seats so far in my journey to find the most comfortable solution for me. The seat in the video is using the same OEM padding but has been reshaped with some relief channels carved in for tail bone and sit bones relief, it definitely helped with relieving the pain, but lacked in the comfort i want. I took the second seat to a different guy and asked him to replace the OEM padding with high density padding and a little tailbone cut out. That was a game changer, i rode straight for 3 hours and 20 minutes without getting off the bike with just a little tail bone pain starting to develop. When i took the seat back to the guy to close it up, i asked him to add additional padding and i'll be happy, unfortunately i ruined it.... so now i have to try and redo it once again and swallow my pride. I have invested in the tools to redo it myself with memory foam, but i just haven't had the time to get to it yet. Still a work in progress...

Very good review and I couldn't agree more. I have been riding for a very long time and always scoffed at "automatic" bikes but while looking for a manual 1100 which I was having trouble finding, I test rode the only 1100 the dealer had which was a DCT. Returned from the test ride and bought it on the spot and have never looked back. I share the frustration regarding the after market and don't understand why more mods aren't available for this popular bike. Greetings from MO and keep making videos, please. As to the exhaust, most of the after market (V&H, Two Brs. etc) make up-swept pipes which interfere with bags. I am considering the Coffmans Shorty which Quasi-motard has on his.

I think by next spring we'll see lots of goodies available for the 1100, it would be a smart business decision for companies to make lots of accessories for the 1100 as it is going to be one of the best selling bikes based on my personal feelings and what i've read from other owners / potential owners.

Great twisties review, The DCT is awesome. reminds me of my scooter-days of twist and go But the Changes I would have Honda make to make this a game changer are as follows :. I am not too keen on the paddle-shifting idea. None what so ever. Best thing for Honda to do is incorporate the Clutch- Foot shifter method for non auto mode, and then with the Selector Paddle , switch into Auto DCT mode. Many many riders will feel much more at home with the clutch lever scenario than they will with the paddle. Myself included. Then if in auto mode, and the rider is in automatic with cruise control on, ..... Maybe pull in the clutch, tap the brake , and the bike continues on in Standard-style MC shift mode and cruise control off.

I would get this if I wanted something more manoeuvrable to zip about on but I’ll always maintain this isn’t a cruiser but rather a really REALLY good naked bike vaguely shaped like a cruiser. Fantastic bike, not a great cruiser imo but I definitely appreciate what they were going for. Most people getting cruisers care much more about looks, sound and overall vibe than performance so no matter how great the bike is, they couldn’t really care less if it doesn’t feel or sound like a cruiser. The general consensus I’ve seen with this bike negative wise is that it’s kinda lacking in character and I can definitely see where they’re coming from. It’s a good looking bike for what it actually is but it’s not really something that turns heads in my experience (my friend has one and has told me a few times that people don’t really look at his bike when he drives past the same way people will turn around when they hear the distinct growl of a more traditional V twin cruiser.) The thing that made me decide against getting one was the sound. Stock exhaust sounds really feeble in my opinion and even the after market ones only improve it slightly, it’s a very quiet bike. I like a loud bike and not so I can turn heads but more just cuz I feel safer cuz everyone in a 2km radius knows my exact geographical position when I ride my v-star due to the sound and (in my head at least) people will be less likely to run me over.
Once again no hate whatsoever to the rebel 1100 but I feel like it’s not a great choice for people who already own cruisers it’ll leave them feeling a little “is that it?”. Great for a sport/naked bike rider who wants something cruiser-y or a new rider who just doesn’t really know the difference. Having ridden my friend’s 1100 it really is a totally different feel to a proper cruiser even just down to the vibrations cuz of the parallel twin. Not a bad thing at all but yeah it really is just a detuned naked with less ground clearance and bigger wheels. Great if that’s what you’re looking for but definitely not for me

@@max-cs4pzpretty sure it has to do with air drag rather than weight, the side with the phone on it is less aerodynamic and creates slight drag that becomes more egregious at high speeds and causes wobble, or at least that’s my understanding of it

    • @RPDXC

The speed wobble is from the stock tires, not the phone mount.
Airbruch did claim it was the phone mount in one of his first vids on the bike. But later claimed he was wrong. He swapped tires and said it was 100% the stock tires. He showed a clip of bike doing 115 [removed speed governer] and bike was stable.
Also others have claimed the tires were the cause of the wobble.

I like the exhaust you have. Where did you get it? Does it allow you to have a full size saddle bag equal to the left side? Is there a heat shield to protect a passenger and the bag itself, or does the downward angle do that? What are the geometry/symmetry/profile changes from the original? Straight side view, straight from beside (while with wood block under kick stand). If you can share a video of this, that would be so awesome. Thank you for your time.

    • @ontherebel11

Hi Charles, The exhaust that i have is a custom one that i got from Kalle a member in the group that had made in Sweden. One of the reasons why i got it is because it allows me to use a large bag on the right side. The exhaust has a heat wrap around it but the position is out of the way while riding with a passenger, i haven't had any issues. The custom exhaust is a fraction of the weight of the OEM exhaust, i don't remember the exact weight off the top of my head brother. You could possibly ask a local exhaust shop to make one for you, it's basically a straight pipe without a DB killer.

Once setup to your liking, this is an awesome commuter bike in my opinion! 12,600 miles later, I'm even more in love with the bike now! It's just so versatile! Exceeded all my expectations, but I made changes to the bike to get it to this point. Feel free to ask any questions you may have before you commit

Hi George! Many have made the same decision you made and are very happy with the thr rebel 1100 as their first bike. If treated with respect and responsibility, the rebel 1100 DCT is one of the best first bikes ot there. It is very well balanced, very tame when ridden in rain mode and let's not forget the advantages of the DCT! With the DCT you can allocate the shifting cognitive resources to other people areas such as threat assessment and situational awareness, I can go on and on about the 1100 DCT, it's an amazing machine! I'm at 10,500 milestone now and love the bike so much more now than on the day I picked it up 5/1/2021. My recommendation would be to take as many courses as possible as a priority, practice, practice and more practice, especially emergency Braking and evasive maneuvers, don't forget that you are invisible to car drivers and anticipate that they will jump out in front of you at every intersection, safety first brother, always.
Regarding the changes to the bike, you will quickly realize that you will need a better seat, bring back the bars if you are shorter than 5'10", and add a windscreen, those 3 items will make a significant difference in comfort and enjoyment. Depending on what you plan on using the bike for, you will mod it out to your specific needs. Feel free to reach out to me if you have specific questions or if something isn't very clear in some of the videos George! 🤙

@@ontherebel11 Not yet. First time rider so I'm going to have one delivered and tackle my slow speed riding skills in the huge industrial park next door, and the slightly faster speeds on a fairly empty road on the outskirts of town also near here. I live 5 min from work so probably will be able to ride it to work with a sub 1% chance of actually getting pulled over.
Going to take everything slow and careful. I'm not really interested in face melting speed. Get the skills>take the test>get license. If I want to try a faster bike my brother is founder of a pretty large MC in Nevada.

Hi Jim, thank you brother! I assure you that the handbrake is not on, if it was you would see the red light on the dash, it only appears that way due to the 4 inch risers bringing the bars back and tilting the assembly up slightly. 👍
