I Messed Up And Scratched A Rig

  • Went in to Golden Spike Trail to recover a Polaris General. After loading the trailer up at the shop I apparently left the controller for the main winch on the bumper and lost it. Not only did that mean I couldn't use the winch to load the vehicle. It meant I couldn't move the pole to keep from conta ting the front of the machine if it got to close. I thought I could make the Gold Bar Waterfall even with the damage done to it since we repaired it, however I slipped off a rock and the pole hit the front of the machine. Much of the video was cut of the incident due to my language. I was very upset with myself and it showed. I showed it to the customer as soon as they came to pick the machine up and deducted quite a bit from the tow bill to reflect it. They insisted it was fine and not an issue, but it was to me. I currently have 4 replacement controllers now so should the issue ever happen again I will be prepared. Thank you everyone for watching and supporting us.

So Rory FINALLY scratches a rig he's rescuing (it looked somewhat unavoidable). Meanwhile, his awesome rig-hauler trailer he built is so well set up, greased, balanced and maintained that the wheel that was off the ground when he came to a stop toward the end of the video just kept spinning and spinning and spinning while he was talking to the camera for several minutes...I mean come on now! Rory...you are one hell of a good recovery driver, rock crawling driver and rescue equipment engineer/builder. It is one thing to drive over these obstacles, but pulling a trailer with another vehicle - AMAZING!

You make a good point about the gears! You know your truck better than anyone else and you can feel when something is wrong! Lower gears and stuff starts breaking! You make recovering a side by side fun to watch! Best office in the world. 👍

Definitely the type of guy you want to have with you in a pinch

I think it's a tribute to your amazing abilities that this is the first time you've ever scratched a vehicle

For perspective, I have driven that trail many times. In a truck with a trailer he was probably 8 hours on trail. Had to be a pricey tow.... The way he handled the "Golden Crack" with a trailer does not show how technical it really is.

Telling and showing us your OOPs takes a mature responsible person of good character. You continue to impress me young man. In todays world of finger pointers and "NOT MEs", I Thank You for being the person you are.
    You are in my prayers

Rory. I really enjoy your videos. I especially like when you explain the method behind the madness. Experience with the area you work in dictates what your setup is, not what popular opinion says it should be.

For a person that goes out there and thinks that there not going to scratch or dent there rig up they apparently haven't woken up from there dream and personally for that to be your first time to have scratched a vehicle on that type of recovery I'm impressed and your being to hard on yourself if it was mine I would have you sign it and then have it clear coated because I know your a man of skill and knowledge, I still say I'm impressed. Keep up the awesome content looking forward to seeing your next video and as always be safe 👍

Don't beat yourself up over that fender bud.
You are the guy I would want getting me out, you always exercise extreme caution on every recovery that I have watched you do.
    You da man!
