Everyone is a rookie at some point, and none of us are born experts. Attitude is everything and luckily this guy has the right one. He was on his very first solo trip at a job he’s only been at for a week, and this mistake had him flustered, nervous, and scared that he was going to lose the job that he’s worked so hard to get. Yes I could have charged his company for this winch out, and he even told me that he would pay me himself so that his boss wouldn’t get a big tow bill and fire him on his first trip, making it impossible to get another job, and therefore losing his work visa. The poor guy was tore up with the thought that he was about to lose all he's gone through to get to this point in his life. But after talking to him for a bit, and him asking for advice and tips on a few things, I just told him no charge. The relief on his face and the emotion that washed over him was priceless and worth every bit of it. Hopefully this minor mistake is a good learning experience, and the helping hand is a good encouragement to stick with and enjoy the career that he’s worked so hard to get. I told him he could text or call me any time for advice, and I really hope he does.
His look of "thankfulness" was more than any words he could have spoken. That is one "good turn" of many from you that you know that guy is on his way and will definitely be paying it forward to many others.
Thank you Casey. I’m the one who called you to come and get this guy. And you showed why. The most professional and reliable recovery man in the area. Again, thank you.
Then, thank you for allowing us to see this heart-warming recovery. You definitely called the right guy. You don't always see it because Casey keeps his cape hidden, but he is a hero.

I've been trucking for a while now and lost a lot of respect for the industry. All too often, it's easy to blame the newbies and the foreigners for the decline of the trucking industry and develop a very toxic opinion. But we all make mistakes and started from being a rookie. You just showed in this video that America is the greatest country in the world to learn, grow, and thrive. At least on the backroads of Oregon. In many countries and parts of our own country, he would have been belittled, fined, overcharged for recovery, and likely fired. Thanks for doing good like you do. It's far too rare. Truckers like me who hate the unprofessional CDL holders need to chill. You taught me a lesson as well. Thank you.
Sometimes it's hard to remember what it's like to be a rookie. The first time you look over to the passenger seat to ask a question and there's nobody there, it can be a terrifying experience. I teach at a CDL school now and it's done a lot to give me a better perspective and has really humbled me.
"In many countries and parts of our own country, he would have been belittled, fined, overcharged for recovery, and likely fired." Lack of Situational Awareness is probably the overall reason for more screw-ups with all drivers but especially new ones. When I first started, most of my tight problems occurred when I made a wrong turn onto a road or highway and needed to do a 180°.
