How to do everything WRONG. Stranded in a snowstorm on the mountain

- I don't want to bash on or talk negatively about this particular driver, but this is a perfect case of how to do everything wrong. A lot happened before I even turn the camera on, but between not following directions, walking blindly into traffic, walking behind my wrecker as I'm backing up, calling multiple tow companies, purposely ignoring chain laws, and complaining about the price that you had already agreed to.. I had no patience on this job. It was basically a textbook example of how to put yourself in a bad situation, and make everything more difficult.

Calling multiple companies at the same time to see who shows up first will get you on the DO NOT SERVICE list around here.
If you're willing to pay for that privilege (paying everyone for their time because you're in a hurry and need out now), then I see nothing wrong with it.
If you're going to stiff the guy? Then I hope all the tow truck companies share your name and number and the DO NOT SERVICE list.
Heck no, free money....get that credit card number, drive out there and lean out the window of your warm cab and thank him for for doing nothing ! Bet ya he don't do again 😂
He did want to pay Casey for more than 15 minutes.
Do you think he would pay someone for showing up?
That's a stupid thing to do. Doing that you may make a deadly situation for someone else.
@@judithfairchild8620 That is the worst part of it. Wasting time is one thing, possibly stiffing them of pay isn't cool, but making someone drive up an icy mountain for no reason at all is absolutely absurd and incredibly selfish.
We squint at the sun because it is bright. We squint at some people because they are not.
What an awesome statement😂
i love this 😂😂😂
Absolute gold😂😂😂😂
😂😂
Stealing that, so I hope you don't have it copyrighted or something 🤣
I know it’s irrational, but *I Feel Better* when Ethan is supporting you (rather than filming) on these dark, snowy recoveries. I’m glad you’ve found a multi-skilled support person who can follow directions. Oh, and curse all you want when your life is endangered by someone else’s thoughtlessness.
Complaining that a tow truck got you moving again too quickly is such a wild take. If he wanted to spend the night there and save his money that was always an option.
No as soon as an officer saw him or the plowtruck reported him there PD would've arranged his tow to get him to a safe location
Ethan nailed it, "Don't be a dick!", too many people forget that!
Ethan is a great addition to the company, Casey. It's wonderful to see his growth as a tow truck driver. You're an awesome teacher.
Ron Pratt has an Ethan and now so does Casey!
@@blakeloke6997Casey’s is a lot more tolerable.
@@blakeloke6997 I'm still subscribed to Ron, but don't watch him much now, largely in part he's Christian, but also wears it a little too loudly for my liking, but as a tow truck operator (and business partner/owner), he's also a good one to watch for how to rescue things correctly.
@@johnhpalmer6098
Ron however keeps his channel family friendly where young kids are watching it that might not be supervised constantly.
Ron also lives in an area where religion is more a part of society where Casey's location isn't religious.
@@cclngthr That's true, but still, the heavy at times heavy handed Christian thing is a bit much.
I was among those who said, two years ago: you should be teaching. And so you are - after picking a very promising student. Go Ethan!
Cascade Heavy rescue disclaimer : Feelings may be hurt at anytime during this recovery ! 😂
That is not a bad idea, knowing Casey...
Better hurt feelings than people.
Simple really, Don't get stuck and you wont have to deal with any tow company. If you don't do the things you should then you have to pay other ways.
@@RowanHawkins Easier said than done.
Not even sure that can be called bashing the driver. You are giving a real time example of what it takes to do your job. That driver is a real world example of the obstacles you have to overcome to do it. Just another example that people should not always act on everything we think is right and sometimes listen to the pro’s we have hired to do something.
What I liked most about this video is how well it illustrates Casey’s lighting concept. Starting from the rotating orange to how well it lights up the work area. And the contrast between the areas around the tow truck and the customer truck and the passing vehicles shows how well this is thought out.
Also notice that there was never lens flair on the camera from the work lights on my truck. All of them are pointed down so that their direct light beam goes to the ground, and the work area is lit with indirect lighting that doesn't blind oncoming traffic with wet windshields. I spent a lot of time at night walking around that truck and adjusting lights
@@CaseyLaDelle We grow too fast old and not fast enough smart. You'd make an excellent Marine.
Why did it cost so much? To quote James Michner, "to tow you out was only $1, the 20 years it took to learn how costs you $300"
Plus the cost of running that equipment
He should have been able to charge for the aggrevation! A stupidity charge as well.
I had a custom wrap made for the tailgate of my repo truck with the sneaker lift that says I don't have an anger problem I lack the ability to deal with stupid the wrap was worth every penny some people get upset about the sticker across the sleeper of my W900 road tractor it says fucKENWORTHit my kids got that for me while getting it repaired from someone blowing a red light and going underneath me popping a seam on my fuel tank and knocking the tag axle out they even had it painted to match the rest of our fleet the red letters on battleship grey with all the aluminum blacked out and black steel wheels I love it
@@davidwoermansr "i don't have an anger problem, i lack the ability to deal with stupid" is a great saying!

As a truck driver, there are too many people driving that really have know business driving a truck.
100% correct there are plenty that give the real professionals a bad reputation.
Put some chains on and slow down and keep on rolling. Learn how to chain 8 drive tires in 15 to 20 minutes using white original chain racks.
That's the sort of customer you really don't need. Reminds me of a video that went viral in the UK when a recovery guy turned up to change a tire. Not only did the customer try to cancel the entire job, but the tow company driver refused to fit the tire but still left it with them for someone else to fix. The customer ended up climbing up in the recovery guy's truck, and then walked in the busy traffic lanes o to try to stop him leaving. It just escalated down from good intent to bad intent. I've always thought that being rescued is a privilege, not a right.
If we had any sign of trouble with bad customers my wife would close the account.
She said there are enough nice people and we want them no aggrevation. Life is too short.
Good job handling a bad customer!
The Casey/Ethan team work is amazing. The two of you operate like a well oiled machine.
That's why your customer is a steering wheel holder.
No the customer was an insult to steering wheel holders. He's a duper trucker
@@bigalan3145 good one. LMAO
Automatic steering lock and brake deployer
At least there wasn't 5 people in the truck I won't tow those guys I'll drive away from those tows everytime especially when they're broke down and alot of shops refuse to work on them and I don't blame them I wouldn't work on them either I refuse to tow because I refuse to pull their driveshaft companies shouldn't be allowed to put that many in there but the truck only stops for fuel that way and if the wheels ain't turning nobody's earning
@@davidwoermansr i don't think it is lawful to have more then 2 drivers in a truck, and that is enough to keep a truck rolling almost 24/7 (i think a single 34 a week, did the math once but don't remember)
Its good to see a person on social media being real and showing how things actually are.
like the concept.. cameraman is working, bodycam filming!
All reliable hands on deck to get out of harms way in those conditions
And Accountability on all actions. I record all my calls for this exact reason and I'm really frustrated with Google trying to block my right to protect my self.
Casey, as a Ex Wrecker driver I agree with you 100% when you are risking your life out there sometime it gets scary, I was almost hit on I-5 down by Albany a truck had come close enough to hit my drivers mirror I had to dive under my flatbed to keep from getting hit. Some times you lose your temper... If people get upset when a "word" gets thrown out there from frustration then that is their problem, Stay safe, Gods Speed...
You keep telling him to listen to your direction and do what he is told . I would be pissed off, too. You had more patience than I would. Drive safe, and thank you for sharing.😊
I agree I'd have lost my mind for him not staying in the truck then finding out what he tried during a full chain up condition by the time it was time to get the bill taken care of my estimate would've been way low and in the itemized bill I'd write out babysitting would've been expensive and teaching what full chain up means wouldn't be cheap either I'm sure when his company called about those charges it probably would've come out of his check
The driver was not only stuck, he's stuck on stupid!😀
Thanks for saying that . Too many people are Der der . We're not talking from birth butt by choice.
You can say that again.
Agreed 💯
😂😂😂 Exactly!!
Thought for sure when he stopped to talk to you …after you instructed him to drive by …. that he’d be stuck again
I thought the same thing
I was waiting for that to happen.
I was expecting more frustration having to explain what full chain up meant
When they want to quibble about the price because "it only took 15 minutes", ask if they get paid by the mile or only while getting loaded.
Some people shouldn't even be driving if they didn't understand any of the lessons they were supposed to learn. Especially under inclement driving conditions. Thanks for all of the great lessons Casey. Everyone should listen to their tow truck driver.
How much about driving truck can be taught in 4 weeks especially by companies who have you with a trainer for 4 weeks cut you loose on your own and after 6 months of solo driving if you want a raise you can become a trainer I was lucky to grow up in trucks learning to move them around our yard and in the fields as soon as I could reach the pedals (never on the backroads around the farm) I still continue to learn if a situation arises I've never seen I'm not afraid to ask around and learn something instead of screwing up and trying to explain to the insurance man and owner of what I'm hauling how shit got tore up and I'm about to semi-retire as a professional tourist and just stick to the farm trucks and my yearly derbycar loads from the desert and Texas to the land of salt cancered cars
as a new driver I love hearing what professionals do and won't do when on the side of the road, I think it would be awesome if you made a video on roadside safety on what to do and not to do, you can even send it to your customers that need a little extra help understanding what to do
Most of it comes down to common sense honestly. Common sense, pay attention, don't get in a rush and you're good to go.
@joryblack9343 Unfortunately common sense is lacking in America. Part of that is too many people who are not raised by proper parenting and education.
@@joryblack9343 The problem comes when said driver thinks they know better than the one that is trying to rescue them. Complain that it didn't take long for Casey to rescue ... is kind of a slap in the face ...
Being the good guy, after all of that Casey tells the driver that he needs to chain up ..
I would leave him go without chaining up but Casey knew the driver would be a danger to others!!
@@johnstark4723that's caused by the government overstepping their boundaries and not allowing proper parenting and education that's why I homeschooled my kids and am about ready to semi-retire and homeschool my grandkids

Honestly, you were a lot more patient with that driver than I would have been.
When you call the best there is no need to call anyone else. This guy is a true knucklehead.
Oh crap! Better call backup. You know who? Bruuuuuce. Bruuuuuce. Bruuuuce.
Nahhh, he's too lazy to get out and help.
Bruce is paralyzed from an accident. He is out doing what many wouldn't even think about doing. Lay off Bruce! He's amazing!

Man you jumped back in that truck, released the brakes, had it in gear and moving before your butt was in that seat. That's impressive bud!
Casey, you did good by chewing out this drivers ass. If he can’t follow instructions why is he driving a big truck and by chain up just one side of his truck is just called laziness or stupidity. Your videos are excellent keep up the great work.
It comes down to the age-old triangle of Speed, Quality and Cost. Can only have 2. To show up and have him out in 15 min and not damage or affect his situation in any way ticks the Speed and Quality mark so with that comes Cost. With Casey's knowledge, expertise and equipment you can expect top notch service, but it comes at a cost (as it should). Pick your worth. Go cheap and have another vehicle stuck with you and potential damage to the tractor. Pretty simple.
Hi Casey I personally like that you don't sugar coat it. Some drivers should still be in a car, they have not bothered to actually learn what is needed to be a Professional safe driver in your mountainous region. Might get away with it in AZ.
Problem is, this/that driver would still be a PIA if he had been in his own personal vehicle and slid into a ditch. He still would not have followed any directions Casey would have given to him so that he could have participated in his recovery.
gbsbill, Try driving I-40 across northern AZ in the winter! Most of it is 5,000 ft or higher and some areas get over 100 inches of snow a year. One semi gets stuck in the right lane and the next guy pulls out to pass and gets stuck right next to the first guy! During snow storms the hiway dept. puts down 300 lbs. of salt per lane per mile per application, and they run nonstop. Tell me again about salt-free Arizona cars!
If Matt could bottle whatever it is that keeps him calm I'd buy cases of it. I definitely understand your frustration and you handled it vastly better than I would have.
You are just trying to keep everyone safe including other road users. He needs to listen (and learn) and in trying conditions, being a little sharp gets it done! Great job Casey and Ethan.
Some of the most authentic videos on RUclips
Yeah, I run into those guys at the truck stop trying to help them back into a spot. At least your guy spoke English, so there's that...
Nice job Casey!! I don't blame you one bit for being angry at that ding bat. I've met those types of guys also. Couldn't pour piss out of a boot if the instructions were on the bottom of the heel. Some people have NO common sense!!! Anyway... good job getting him out!!!
Never stop being yourself. You did a great job.
Casey, that was a dangerous job! I'm glad nobody got hurt!
It's gotta be difficult for you do get argument about agreed prices. I'm certain you know that in many other countries people expect to bargain for everything. It's often a matter of pride for them, you bargain or you're a chump. Even so, in your place I'd be agitated too! You'd think they'd learn what a quote means and honor it. No blame here for anything you did.
You kept your head on a swivel and got the job done without anyone getting hurt. Good for you!
Wow! So amazed a driver is so unprepared.
Almost lost my life helping a DAT who ran out of fuel on a busy highway. Found out I got no patience for a dumbass. Much respect to you Casey for what you do!
Some people are just idiots who are not responsible for themselves and will endanger others with no regard.
Love the way you don't sugarcoat things! Tell it as it is, is always the best way!! If people don't like if that's their problem not yours!
Oh and cya @j.dewald2030..
There are some people that shouldn't be allowed to drive trucks , and the one you had to help is a prime example ( driving on the I 5 and 205 I see way too many of them ) . Great job Casey and Ethan
We THOROUGHLY enjoy ALL your videos -- towing as well as your "other" stuff (hay fields, etc) Thanks much!
OMG! First the driver was an idiot who couldn’t follow simple instructions, that terrifying. Second, I don’t suffer fools very well and when I heard that idiot only had chains on one side, I was like oh hell no! Get him Casey! Another great video. Keeping it real, that’s what I love about your channel.
One of the mechanic shops I use always has trouble with drivers that are not from this country. Every time they are quoted a price and then refuse to pay. The shop just hangs the keys back on the wall and calls the next customer. After a half hour or so, they come to their senses.
I worked for a county road crew here in Oregon, so I understand what you are talking about. You are putting your life in jeopardy to help someone who doesn't listen is frustrating.
I feel it's good that you have Ethan with you on these kinds of jobs. When someone is being difficult and tensions start rising it's good to have that extra person in your camp.
Been in a similar situation, different industry - If someone else shows up and shows me the same number in caller ID, driver doesn't get keys from me until the other guy collects for showing up. In your world, I can see that being a problem if you "stuck" a driver in a truck with the window stuck down and no heat though...
I love those Amber beacons on top of your wrecker, it reminds me when I was a firefighter back in the late '80s and we would be out on a scene of a car accident and you can see those lights go off the rocks or the buildings or whatever at night, in the fog you could see their rays penetrate through the fog. Just reminds me of the old days.
Casey everything you have said up to timestamp 14:05 just makes you human and i love seeing true human beings ........ keep up all the great work you do and love the fact that you are teaching young Ethan how to drive the truck because what happens if something should happen to you and ethan is the oly one that can get you guys to safety he should have enough knowledge to get any vehicle to move and stop
Always stay true to yourself Casey! That's why we watch you. You acknowledged your frustration and spoke eloquently about it. The whole video was great - your skills in your job, in teaching, especially how to assess a situation. Keep up th awesome work!
Great video. I understand your frustrations. I like your honesty.
His relations are over here in Australia doing similar stupid things
Nice job with a difficult customer, Casey. Always enjoy your vids with your honest, unfiltered comments.
Your kindness and generosity made me emotional. God Bless..
Glad to see your truthful reaction to the situation. Don't change to try and satisfy an audience, that's probably the best way to lose them.
Great job guys. Thank you 😊
You always give credit to the good drivers, so there's no reason why you can't point out the problems with a bad drriver.
Great video Casey, stay safe out there
As a tech, i've heard the whine of people crying over prior agreed to cost more than anything else. You're paying for the experience not the amount of time it took me to use that experience. Now, when someone pisses me off. Then it's. You see that over there (points to triple banked hutched tool box) do you have thousands of dollars of your own tools to fix your problem? No, that's why you came to me. IDGAF to fire a customer, not all money is good money and with a shortage of people as skilled as me in my field, i'm never out of work.
Yes really paying for the experience and equipment not the time for job. I parked for the night and weather was just right that i wasnt stuck when parked and an hour later either but in morning i was. Sucks being empty at times. I called company for them to go get me assistance. Took 2 minutes with a rope and a wrecker. I dont get the bill but im sure it was a few hundred😊
I couldn’t agree more, I have spent the last thirty years learning my trade. I charge for that experience because I wasn’t getting paid shit working for other people all those years. I started my own business because I have acquired the necessary skills and now I need to pay for my business and my family.
You're a bit confused. Casey based it off hourly rates. He was just there and knew how long it took to get there, winch out, and drive home.

I get why you were explaining why you were talking to the guy in a stern voice, the part I don't understand are the people who dont understand that that is how you have to talk to some people to get their attention and get them to do what is needed at the time. It has never bothered me if someone is barking orders during tense situation because I understand the gravity of the situation. things can go south very quickly and I dont suffer fools who can get me or someone else hurt. I give respect until someone shows they dont respond to it. Years ago I worked at a ski resort and on the way home I pulled a woman out of the snow bank who had been going too fast. before I could get my straps put away she sped off. this was long before yankum, ( I sure would have loved to have them). a mile down the mountain I found her in the snowbank again. she was in a minivan with front while drive and cables on the tires, but she was just driving too fast. I had told her to slow down but she didn't listen.. so I just waved as I drove past her. she could wait and pay a tow guy.
so I have noticed that most of the truckers that you come to the rescue are pretty young and not season veterans truck drivers ,Is that the Norm? Being inexperienced drivers like most of them seem to be ,They don't seem to know the Law of the land , so to speak ,No common sense I guess, It's nice to see you have ethan with you, its nice to have back-up.
Well of course. The experienced ones know when to put chains on

It is nice to see this late season snow, we desperately need it.
May it come easy to you, my friend, I would like to see you when I come to America.😊
we deal with these drivers at my work, i work in heavy steel here in Canada , we had 2 in one week not listen to our shipper and the driver proceeded to back into our loading dock uninstructed to do so, he was told to wait in his truck , so while backing into our dock he hit the corner of the building knocking down a camera and tried again taking out the guard rail on the north side, 40 feet of guard rail, i told him to stop and get out of the dock and he got upset i didn't give a shit and had 2 other trucks scheduled to be loaded in there, he was finally out and said he did not damage the area , then i showed him the footage from another camera angle, still denied it, i called his dispatcher and said this guy is never allowed back on our property at any time, he doesn't listen and lied to our faces when confronted with video evidence, so we had our insurance company come out to assess the damage and it did not look like much $35000 and our insurer launched an investigation and found this driver responsible for 4 other such issues with 4 other companies and they had promised to fire the driver and never did replace him until we went to sue the company who refused to pay damages after a letter of agreement was signed by the manager of operations, these people need to held accountable for their actions, get into another industry, leave the driving to those who will listen or move back home , your just endangering the lives of people around you
Nice having Ethan as part of your team! He is a nice addition!
