    I want to see Nintendo get back to the "Nintendo" of it all with the software on the Switch 2. The Wii and even WiiU and 3DS system software often felt very fun to interact with and theme, whereas the Switch has only had the same two black-or-white color options and single row layout throughout its run.

    It would make the next console capable of porting games from the DS & WiiU as well as the 3DS if the top screen is 3D.

    My 2 cents: I bet Nintendo doesn't say anything about the Switch 2 until Jan/Feb next year with a release in May/June. I don't know what Nintendo has to gain by announcing it now. But they could cannibalize holiday sales of the original Switch if they do.

      I kind of get it, but I also kind of don't get it. Which sane person would buy a brand new switch this late in it's lifecycle? I mean, it's not an expensive device, so there probably isn't anyone holding out for it. Maybe some impulsive buyers will grab it over holiday seasons, sure. But it can't be a huge amount of sales.
      Also wouldn't it make sense to cannibalize the sales of an old device? Your new device is what you want to sell, any original Switch sale is a sale of Switch 2 you just lost. It might be technically good in the short term, but long term you want as many users on your latest device.

      If the Switch 2 is fully backwards compatible then they won't be cannibalizing anything.
      In fact it would put extra value on Switch 1 titles that would otherwise start to wane in sales with the aging original console.
      They could possibly beef up a select list of Switch 1 titles with a Switch 2 next-gen compatibility patch that would improve their performance for that device.
      Think something a la PS4 Pro patches. I know Zelda and Pokemon would benefit from that greatly.

    The rumored screen size is 8" not 8.8". Not sure where that is coming from. Also 1080p is more than enough for an 8" screen. I don't really know where this "this isn't impressive" talk is coming from either. Do you expect Nintendo to build a cutting edge ROG Ally X?? This device is going to be around $400, of course it's not going to compete with any Windows handheld. 12GB of LPDDR5X is also very good. That's more than the Series S. The base PS5 and Series X have 16GB.... Really weird saying "last gen's tech". It's going to use fast UFS 3.1 storage which is 2100MB/s, the LPDDR5X ram is rated at 7500mt/s. Kid Icarus: Uprising is a miracle that it runs on 3DS with barely any slowdown. Smash Wii U runs at full 1080/60, which a good number of Wii U games did not. Same thing with Ultimate.

    I understand the comparison to similar hardware like the Steam Deck or ROG Ally, but I think people forget that those audiences don't necessarily share an overlap. People buy Nintendo consoles to play Nintendo games, and most of their audience likely has little interest in those other systems, especially at their comparative price points.
    When looking at the rumored specs compared to the higher-end devices, of course it's a little underwhelming, but if you compare them to the Switch, the RAM itself is a MASSIVE upgrade. The original Switch had 4GB OF RAM, so the jump to 12 will make a bigger difference than it's getting credit for here.
    I like that we're getting a bigger screen at 1080p and bigger joycons. For handheld, that's all I could've asked for. I got my Switch back in 2017 and never upgraded to OLED, so I personally am more than ready for an upgrade. At this point though, at least personally, Nintendo is _directly_ competing with Valve for my money, and I'm sure I'm not alone. The PC handheld spec comparisons don't really hold since this is a console we're talking about. 12GB of DDR5X is more than the Xbox Series S. The real story is that this will be a handheld PC with comparable output to a PS4 Pro/Xbox Series S. That's pretty damn impressive, and it'll run basically everything when you consider that the vanilla PS4 is still a major target platform.

    • @Speedy500

      Probably going to have a lot more usable RAM than the Series S as well, because that runs a modified version of windows, and windows takes like 4gb of ram for the OS itself, I’m sure Microsoft probably cut a bunch of stuff so it’s probably closer to 2 gigs for the os on the Series S, but Nintendo’s OS’s hardly reserves any RAM for itself so it’s probably got like 10-11 gigs of usable RAM which is quite a lot all things considered, a 16 gig windows machine usually has around 12 gigs of usable RAM if I remember correctly

    I don’t think I see why they would reveal switch 2 before March 2025. Unless they had a compelling reason to reveal it before the end of the fiscal year, why would they? Reveal in March, and release in the late summer or Holiday of 2025.

      @@Bigjim1027 I mean yeah, but this year has already been just mostly ports and smaller titles. The real question is, if they don’t have enough content for another year of switch, why wait to launch the switch 2?

    • @Bigjim1027
      @Bigjim1027 Месяц назад

      @@christianr.5868 right, that is totally fair. Perhaps they feel they do have enough content to last at least until a summer release while preparing everything for new console and not getting in the way of any holiday sales, etc. considering they gave themselves til the end of the fiscal year to announce it. 12 GB should be enough, tbh. More would be nice of course, but remember: PC handhelds are *PCs*. They have to run all kinds of OS background threads and random background tasks for syncing stuff irrelevant to your gaming experience. The Switch is a purpose-built hardware system that can remove anything it doesn't need from the OS and dedicate almost all the RAM to whatever game it's running. Games can also (in theory, really depends on developer skill) optimize specifically for the hardware (you know, like the old days).

    • @ivancho5854
      @ivancho5854 Месяц назад +3

      @@Norfirio Absolutely. The games should get a full 10Gb of UNIFIED RAM, which the other consoles don't have (I think). I've heard an interview with a developer who says that this will be huge.

      PS4/Xbox One had 5 to 5.5GB to developers.........The Switch as as powerful as the PS3/XBOX 360..........Switch 2 will be about as powerful as the PS4/Xbox one......but with more memory.......10GB is more than enough.......look at apple silicon, at 1080p many AAA games use like 5 to 8GB total ram.

    • @Speedy500
      @Speedy500 Месяц назад +1

      I wouldn’t be too surprised if the Switch 2 had 11 gigs of usable unified RAM when not downloading games, because it is probably an iteration on the Switch OS, which was an iteration on the 3DS OS, and so it is probably designed to be optimized to use as little RAM as possible

    • @kninezbanks
      @kninezbanks Месяц назад

      @@Speedy500 True, the switch has a very lightweight OS..........Game Devs have 3285MB.......467MB for Applet (App Store, Album, Settings Menu etc).....and only 265MB for the actual core system...........One down side is that the switch OS is too bland/plain, no themes, no background downloads, limited video recording etc.........game devs can choose to not allow recording to free up memory/cpu/gpu power..............on the switch 2, they might reserve more space for social media, achievement tracking, background downloads or playback etc.
      I can see them reserving 2GB to be in line with modern devices.

    • @Speedy500
      @Speedy500 Месяц назад

      @@kninezbanks I honestly feel like they might be able to make it less bland while keeping it within 1.5GB as the 3DS was a lot less bland and had similar features as you are talking about then adding, I think the Wii U had most of those features as well and if I remember correctly it also was very light weight, within 1GB so it is possible that Nintendo could do what you propose in 1GB of RAM. Edit the Wii U is technically uses 1GB 3 MB and 96kb of RAM for the OS, for security purposes, the 1GB is from the mane RAM, then 3MB of dedicated RAM that probably handled communication to the Game Pad, and the rest an anti tampering protocol yes the Wii U did in fact only allow games to have 1 GB. How did all my Wii U games run so smooth? Probably because I didn’t ever get BOTW for the Wii U

    PS5 has 16 and PS4 has 8GB of ram, why do people think 12GB of ram on a handheld is bad? Switch runs off 4GB of ram, while a Google Pixel 9 uses over 7GB of ram just being powered on doing nothing. Have 3x the Ram as the Switch will make a huge difference, especially is the Switch OS runs off little ram like it already does.
