This is the earliest I've been to one of your videos, and probably the most likely to get a reply so I wanted to say. I've been watching you for a few years, I'm 19 now, and I've thoroughly enjoyed every video you make. You give such an amazing perspective told through such an innovative medium, and that is amazing to me. I don't remember exactly the first video i watched of you, but i rememeber so many wishlists and predictions (those are my favorites) from the end of the year, you finally getting into pokemon after i was wondering when you would, and you being SICK when pikmin 4 was announced (I was so heartbroken when you couldn'tscream off the top of your lungs about it). Your appendicitis, your other troubles, and now that we have topicarlo i can just see more content from you I have some amazing memories because of you and i want you to know you make a big difference in peoples lives. Thank you Arlo.
The first time I watched one of your videos was on a Costco parking lot, listening to you through my earbuds while pushing carts in 101 degree weather. Since then I’ve got a house, a fiancé, and a cozy self-employed gig and I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. I wish the same happiness to everyone here. Best wishes and can’t wait for that Switch 2 reveal!
@@-lord1754 if it helps at all, my life was in a constant spiral of monotony for the better part of ten years. Up until last year I had no plan, and no idea where my life was going. I proposed to my fiancé this January, and the whole house and self employment thing? Two months ago. There’s always time. I can’t guarantee things will get better, but there’s always a chance. 💕

I wish Iwata was here to see the fruits of his labor. He struggled to keep the Wii U afloat and I was respectfully critical of Nintendo's business decisions back then, but it would have been awesome to see him announce the Switch in all its glory. RIP Iwata sensei. This one's for you.
And instead of laying off employees he took a pay cut and refused a raise while the company roughed through financial woes during that era. Truly one of a kind and I too wish he was here to see the success of the Nintendo Switch.
I'm still so upset that Iwata-san isn't around to see the sheer joy that the Switch has brought to millions of people. Nintendo has truly had such a return to form the last 7 years. He'll be remembered decades to come. What a man.
Not to dampen the mood even further but I also really wish Etika was still here with us to see the switch 2 reveal I know he’s just as excited to see it like we are up in heaven JOYCONBOYZ.
Dear Arlo, I’m writing this comment in a dramatic manner because your words have truly touched my heart. Especially the ending where you reflected on how far you’ve come and how much you’ve grown. It gave me pause to reflect on something I don’t think about enough, and that’s how much I’ve changed for the better. My family and I have been through circumstances I never thought I’d be able to handle on an emotional level, but I’ve been exceeding my own expectations. After finishing this video this morning, I couldn’t quite find the words on what I wanted to share. That is, until I talked about this video with my Mother. We shared how we’ve both been going through rough times, and I was able to remind myself of my accomplishments *without* putting myself down. We always get along, but it’s not often that we open up to each other emotionally. That was the push I needed to write this. Your words were the launchpad for a very important and heartwarming conversation between myself and my mother. I can’t thank you enough for that, Arlo. Sincerely, A fellow gamer
My daughter was just a year old when Arlo's Calm Before the Storm video came out. Now she's 9 and if the time jump remains the same, will be 17 when we are back here speculating on Switch 3....that is kind of nuts to me.
I was 21 and in uni when I got my Switch at a midnight launch event. Now I’m almost 30, have a grown-up job, got a cat and a dog, moved homes, met the love of my life and got married - and my battered Switch is still here, sitting in its dock. It’s surreal how much life can change in 8 years!
The charm I think the Switch is missing is eshop music, home screen music, and system themes. It could've been implemented so easily for sheer memorabilia. The UI has felt stale since launch.
I cant believe the original video was 8 years ago, the early switch era is something i'll never forget, and it made it even more hype watching your videos
Remember rewatching that video a few months ago. Felt...dont want to say magical but it felt like having a room full of friends speculating what could and couldnt happen. Seeing Arlo and Gnoggin later at the midnight launch at the wrong location then went to grab a burger. lol
@@HeilRay That really was the best way to describe it lol. There was something in the air that was just calm and mesmerizing during that time, knowing that everything was going to change in just a couple months
I was watching so many Nintendo NX videos back then, and Arlo was a forefront of that era. I wouldn't even Discover Scott the Woz for another 6 months or so when he started making videos. That was such a different time, and I'm very happy to look back at it. Good times.
"Knowing will be great, but we'll have plenty of time to know" is an INSANELY amazing quote. That is some senior year book quote level stuff right there.
I first watched one of your videos when my boyfriend was deciding about buying the NX system, right in that 2016 timeframe. We were long distance at the time while he finished his training and I was teaching. Since 2016, we moved to a new state together, survived a hurricane, got engaged, moved to a different state, survived a tornado during a pandemic, canceled a wedding and rescheduled it due to the same pandemic, finally got married, had a baby, moved to another state and into our forever home, graduated with a masters degree and just found out we are expecting our next baby. Thank you for being such an uplifting and fun part of our crazy lives!
marley and me was a childhood favorite. and yknow, thinking abt it now and as an adult, it tells such a similar story-the passage of time. idk if ive seen another movie really emphasize this, but god it is so beautiful to see how far we all go in life. i hope you and your family are doing well, and congratulations on the second baby
As I age (turning 40 next year), I've been thinking more and more about how fleeting time is, how the "right now" was once a thought of my younger self of "I wonder what I'll be in so many years, but it's also a "remember when I was that age" memory of my future self. I look back at the Switch era with fondness, although my own personal life events were up and down throughout (things are great now) but I can't believe it's already been 8 years. I'm very excited for what's to come next, but I'm slowly learning to "appreciate the wait" and not feel like I'm rushing from one big thing to the next. We only get this one life as far as anybody knows, just remember to breathe and try to do a little better today than you did yesterday. Thanks for the years of entertainment and illumination, Arlo! I'm looking forward to what's next (with a newfound sense of calm & patience)
In the Nintendo RUclipsr realm, he is. But in the wider RUclipsr ecosystem, Schafrillas is surely giving him a run for his money. He’s definitely THE paper mario guy though (specifically THE thousand year door guy).
I like how Arlo teased us with the star thingy throughout the whole video making us curious what it was to then end and say we should be more okay with not always knowing everything and then making the star thingy appear again and explode, making us want to know about it whilst also telling us to be patient and okay with not knowing everything all the time. That's a theoretical and practical lesson all in one, I like that
The explosion was violently loud, too, which caught me off guard the moment I looked away from the screen. The little lighting effects on the puppet itself during the explosion were a nice little touch, too.
@jasonkinsley2823 well if the most recent leak is to be believed (I think so), then the new console added back the microphone so here's hoping for more 3DS-like features!
Since your "Calm before the NX storm" video, I : Graduation college. Got married. Played WAY too many games. NOT played WAY too many games. Expecting a baby very soon! It's been a great time!
@@maxjohnson8885congrats to you as well! We are extremely excited! Everyone says that's it's the best moment of your life, and I never understood that. Baby is still not due until April, but I totally understand it now!
Oof. Here I am, and I didn't accomplish anything. I was in college then, I since switched over to a different one and still haven't graduated. I was single then, and I've only been in a brief two month relationship since. I don't have a steady job. I survived cancer but that's not really anything *I* did necessarily. I feel like I haven't really gone anywhere in life between 18 and 26. I haven't accomplished anything. And with cancer looming in the back of my mind at all times, I don't know if I ever will. The funniest part is that I don't even own a Switch. I've seen one in real life maybe twice. I've not been able to justify getting one in my country especially with all the joycon durability issues. So I just watch Arlo lmao
This right here is the best Arlo video ever (subjectively). I was not expecting it to get so retrospective on the last 8 years in Arlo's story, both the person/monster on-camera and the person/monster off camera. It's kinda a little 700.000 subscriber special. And it had an exploding shooting star, too
Arlo got real philosophical at the end there. Eventually we will know what the next Nintendo console is. For now we wait, and savour this moment. The calm before the storm.
I’m more worried about securing one… they are gonna fly off the shelves before they even reach em. It’s gonna be a blood bath to get your hand on a box like the ps5.. but I’m happy to sit back and cozy game on my beloved switch until it’s my time
Your original “Calm Before the NX Storm” video came out when I was 17, and it taught me to truly appreciate the moment I was in. Back then, I was so excited for the “NX” to be announced, but your video helped me realize how special that anticipation was. It made me pause, take it all in, and savor the unique feeling of waiting for something big. To this day, I still remember exactly how that anticipation felt, and I’m grateful that you helped me embrace it. Now, at 25, I’m doing the same with the lead-up to the next console, soaking in the excitement all over again. Thank you for making these moments even more meaningful. :) ❤
I was a 12 year old 7th grader in 2016 watching Arlo talk about the nx. Now I'm twenty and still watching Arlo. Here's to another 8 years of whatever Nintendo's got cooking next!
Wow, 12, I was like ... 14 ..? Honestly, Arlo for me is... Similar to a childhood (more likely teenagehood/adolescence) icon. I've grown so much thanks to the many wise advice this blue monster sprinkled through these 8 years...
Bruh when I skipped thru square space & accidentally perfectly ended at the right time when he just stared in my soul & backed away slowly like “how dare u skip & not listen to me” 😂💀
Arlo this is gonna sound weird but this opening is giving me nostalgia. I remember when you made the first calm before the NX storm and that felt so long ago. You were just starting, your vids felt so cool to watch as it was a puppet talking about Nintendo games, and back then I was worried that your channel wasn’t gonna make it as it wasn’t getting as many views as I thought it should. Crazy how time flies by.
18:24 I love how the explosion got bigger from the NX video, makes me wonder how big it’ll be in 8 or so years during the calm before the “Switch 3” storm
I was a kid who loved videogames on the wii era. I hated myself and didn't play any games on the wii u era, and I made a lot of big mistakes. During the switch's life I've found myself, started having care of my health, my mental health and started working out, I've found the job I'm passionate about and love working every single day and learned how it feels like to love someone else and how it feels to be heartbroken. I love life now and I'm proud of myself and excited to begin this new chapter of my life accompanied by the switch 2. Love you Arlo, you are a irreplaceable part of this community and my enjoyment of this hobby, thank you!
I'm an old man now so it makes sense but it's still crazy how these past eight years have just flown by when the transition from the NES to SNES felt like ancient history to me as a kid by the time the N64 was launched, even though those were less time apart.
Thanks, Arlo, for being such a refreshing presence here in the Nintendo sphere of RUclips. I've been watching your videos ever since the Switch reveal and release, way back when I was 14-15. Now I'm almost 23 and a very different person as well, but my love for games and content creation still remains. You were one of the biggest inspirations for me to start my own RUclips channel, and even though I haven't made a ton of videos recently, I'm still grateful I have the opportunity to share the content I enjoy making. So, thank you for that!
Arlo. When you made the first calm before the storm vid I only had a 2DS and Pokémon Y. I secretly played Pokemon as a university student. All my friends had PlayStation's with FPS games that just couldn't grab my attention. Around this video is when I started watching your vids and joined your hype. You really made me fall back in love with Nintendo for the first time since the Game Cube. Now I have nearly all Nintendo consoles and 40+ switch games. Thank you Arlo. Your videos have helped me through tough years and your excitement made me feel like I had a like-minded friend when my everyday life friends were far away.
I was in 8th grade when you put out the original Calm Before the NX Storm video, and now I am a senior in college! Although I don’t have as much time to be into Nintendo nearly as much, this channel and everything surrounding it still means so much to me. You’ll never know the true impact you had on young folks like me, looking for a positive space on the internet to talk about the things we love, but I just want to say thank you! And here’s hoping the Switch 2 is as incredible as I have dreamt it will be since I was 14, haha. Love the videos ❤️
This is going to be an interesting chapter for me. While i love the switch. 9 years ago shortly before the switch. My son passed away when i was in a tragic accident. The switch certainly helped me find light in the darkest of times. But maybe now i can come to appreciate without a crutch.
My sincerest condolences. I really hope that this new system will help in your recovery. As a father I can't imagine what you have been through and wish you the absolute best. I just hope this ends up being a golden era for you in that regard and you can find moments of happiness. I'm rooting for you, and just hope you don't need that crutch as much.
I remember watching “The Calm Before the NX Storm” when it came out, and it’s crazy that I’ve been through so much of my life since then. I’m experiencing the same excitement and curiosity I did 8 years ago, but now I’ve graduated from high school, undergrad, AND grad school. Not to mention the countless other changes that have occurred in my life. Arlo, I’m so glad that your channel has grown and matured with you, and I hope it continues to grow as I continue to watch! :)
I started watching your channel because of this exact video over 8 years ago. I was 12, now im 20. The calm before the NX storm. Was a decent fan until I got to watch “why hey pikmin hurts me” and then I became a die hard arlo lover. 💙💙💙💙
I remember the first video I ever watched of you was your Hammer Bro video way back when on the wii u gamepad when I was 9. I am 18 now and just started college. I've practically lived my entire life watching your content; gaining new relationships, losing old ones, having family be born, having family be lost, dated twice, moved from my childhood home and plenty of other events. Its strange to me that one of the most consistent things in my life that I have tuned in to every week for so long is the blue muppet man that rants about Nintendo games; but its been a good ride. It meant a lot when you talked about how much life has changed; because my whole life practically happened during the switch. Things have changed, but I've always been someone that's looked towards the future. Here's to a great new console generation and chapter to our lives 🍹
Seeing Arlo grow over the years makes me happy to know he's more then just a random Muppet. Congrats Arlo here's hoping for more awesome videos and good times.
The NX video was one of my first Arlo video and I watched it almost every day. At that point I just moved to a friend house in the US working as freelancer for Rooster Teeth animating sprites for Death Battle. A lot has happened since then but I can truly say that your videos have gotten me through a lot, thank you for leaving such a huge positive impact on me, Arlo! Here to "The Calm Before the "Switch 3" Storm"!
Wow just wow. I cried during the end and then burst into laughter after the shooting star exploded. Thank you Kane for your amazing editing and thank you Arlo for the reflective nature of this video
I can’t explain how badly I needed to hear this today because it applies so directly to the birth of my daughter that should be happening less than a month and this is exactly how I feel right now that calm before the life changing storm and just kind of waiting. Excitement and nerves and just ready, but also enjoying the time before this big life change Really means a lot to just kinda put out like that when I’ve been struggling to figure out how I feel and how to deal with my feelings so thank you Arlo. I appreciate you and your videos so much.
This was such a fantastic video! It was filled with great insights and introspection. The music combined with your chatting and how you've changed/evolved over this console generation is such a good listen. It's audio equivalent of being wrapped up in a warm blanket on a cold winter night. Great stuff, Arlo!
I'd like to thank you. Your words really made me emotional and nostalgic for the fun times of the past. It made me remember the 3ds launch, and how me and my friends were watching it live, excited about what was to come. Its nice being here. Its nice being a Nintendo fan. I think I'll stay a while longer.
I was in high school during the calm before the NX storm. Now I’m a college graduate during this calm before the Switch 2. It’s such a weird feeling, so be in a similar place so many years later. It was a long time ago, but it’s also crazy thinking how it’s been 8 years. Like, I can’t believe we’re already here again.
I have been a loose follower of your channel recently, watching stuff on and off. Undeniably you had a great charm in your videos I couldn’t ignore. Now hearing your story about how you’ve grown through YT and become a better person was moving! Such a great thing to hear and has you a sub from me! I look forward to hearing more gaming news from you on this exciting Journey to the Switch 2!
This was a really sweet video. I've been along for the ride with you since the switch launched, and it's been a heck of a ride. Glad to hear how you've matured and grown, my dude. Here's to another great generation of gaming!
turning 20 in about a week. been on this journey with Arlo and the switch since the beginning. i’ve graduated high school, gone through soooo many different friendships (and through that learned what i should tolerate in relationships and what i should not), i’ve learned who i am personally and stuck to that rather than changing myself for others, i’ve been proud of my passions and shared them with those that may not understand but are happy to see my happiness, i’ve discovered my ingrained anxieties and other mental health issues that i’ve since made major progress in unravelling, i found a university degree that allows me to show my talent, and i moved out just this year! i’ve learned how to live with myself and by myself and hopefully make others lives a little better along the way. and the switch has honestly beeen such a motivating factor along the way. to know there’s always something to look forward to- heck when TOTK was announced i was going through the hardest time of my life and the announcement kept me going. thank you nintendo for continuing to be a major part of my growth and development.
I’m listening to this video on a walk it’s almost 1:00am. The part where you said you found yourself hit me so hard. In 2017 I was a loser. And I hated a lot about myself. Then 2020 hit and I decided I want to be a RUclipsr/streamer. I’m so happy for you. I hope some day, I’m half as successful as you are. I’ve grown to love myself and have an appreciation for life. It’s so cool to see Nintendo doing well again. Onward and upward to the future ❤
Arlo, I have been so thankful to grow up along side you. It is incredible to me how someone on the internet who doesn’t even know you can have been a cornerstone of your life for the last near-decade. I guess that’s just what happens when such an obviously wonderful person makes videos about video games.
The "Calm before the NX Storm" video was the one that got me to subscribe to you in the first place for how wholesome and thought provoking it was. It's been a wild 8 years checking out your content and it means a lot that you followed up on it for our thoughts to feel validated and come full circle in this Nintendo Switch storm. To see how much you have changed and evolved for the better at becoming one of the best content creators in the Nintendo circles. Here's to another 8 years of the Switch 2 and me watching your content the moment it's in my subscription feed! ✨
Cheers to Arlo! Your channel is one of my mainstays, and not because I care so much about Nintendo, but because of you, your commentary, personality, etc. while it’s nice to have hobbies, it can be just as nice to share those hobbies with someone, and this channel is as close to that experience as I can find on RUclips. I remember when the Switch was announced… I was working as a fry cook at Popeyes, and bought a Wii U instead lol.
I need to say thank you, it feels really weird to thank you for this but my first Boss is getting transferred to a new job site today and he has been such a great boss and dude in general I've been upset all week and just stuck in my own head. Hearing you at the end talking about looking back and remembering my younger self I remember I've gone through similar stuff and I’ve been able to later look back on it and smile. Which I already thought about but just hearing it worded differently from someone else helped a lot. Thank you so much.
I'm going through a really rough patch on the stretch of life, and somehow this video has made me feel something, something deeply hopeful, and Arlo, whoever you are out in the real world, I sincerely thank you for that. Your pen wrote a great video. Thank you.
This was genuinely such an inspiring video… “once you know, you know”. You’re definitely right in saying there’s a certain magic in not knowing. When something you’ve known nothing about, been eagerly awaiting for ages finally gets revealed, that’s a seriously gratifying feeling. I haven’t been there for the reveal of a console before, but here I am now. And I couldn’t be more excited. Also thanks for teaching me the word “betwixt”
As I’m listing to this it was my daughter’s 8th birthday today. She’s as old as the switch lol. So your talk of eras hits home. These past 8 years have been the best of my life. I love being a dad. I started a family in these 8 years. And I grew up a lot. And I appreciate hearing your story. I don’t know you man but I’m proud of you. I’m proud of all of us Nintendo kids growing up.
When the Switch launched I was in primary school, that was eight years ago. Now I'm in my second year of university, studying engineering in a different continent. It really has been a while. I went from being a kid to an adult somehow in the span of a single generation. Probably I'll look back on today in seven years just as I look back on 2016 from today, no knowing where life will take us...
The phrase "the calm before the NX storm" has echoed in my brain for years whenever I reminisce about the pre-switch era and has regularly appeared in my head when I see Switch 2 news/leaks. I was a sophomore in high school and the only person in my town with a Wii U when I started watching your videos. I giggled a bit when I saw the title of this one - great stuff man!
It is interesting looking back over the last 8 years, and seeing the console cycle looping. I think even though the DS Wii 3DS Wii U era is my nostalgia era, the Switch era is special to me because it is the first generation I closely followed, every step of the way. 8 years ago, I was 12, nearly 13. Now, I am 20, nearly 21. It has been my teenage console.
It's kind of poetic. I've been binging Arlo videos for the past couple months because I'm fairly new to the channel. I decided to start with his early NX coverage and I've been following the whole Switch arc since. Im still at about mid 2019 right now, but its been a journey! Thanks for the ride, Arlo! I'll be with you from the start of "Switch 2" this time!
I remember the NX rumors like it was yesterday. The day the Switch was revealed was magical and it’s crazy to think that was 8 years ago. Thank you for all the years of content Arlo, here’s to many more with the Switch 2!
oh, i was hoping you’d do this again!!!! the calm before the NX storm video is one of my all time favourites of yours, and it made me so happy to get this notification.
hehe, i remember myself being in primary school and excitedly showing my friend your video on splatoon 2. just started university last monday, and though i dont play splatoon or even my switch that much anymore, ive always come back to your videos
This was an awesome video. I've been watching your stuff since near the beginning, and I've loved it. It's so cool to have seen you grow as a creator, and this is such a great way to see this not as an opportunity to be impatient about the next system, but to be excited and enjoy this in-between.
This is such a poignant and sentimental video. Sometimes I go back and rewatch that NX video with new-found amusement of the things we previously didn't know... what a starkly different era of our life and Nintendo's history we were in. This video was such a nice little reflection and consideration about the future, and I actually almost teared up a bit towards the end. We've all been through so much these past 7 or so years, in probably both good and bad ways. Sometimes it's good to pause and think back on where we've been, so we can feel ready for what our future will be. Thank you for your time and this video. Looking forward to looking back at this video a few years down the road the same way I did the previous one.
I remember watching the calm before the storm back in 2016. And after any life decision i would reminisce. My life now is completly different than it was back then. Unfortunately i dont know if its better but hearing arlos words made me feel a bit better. I hope to one day reflect back on all the calm before the storm videos and feel like ive enjoyed life. look at the bad things and good and just be happy to experience it all. I tend to bicker and self loathe a lot but im hoping for next calm before the storm video. Im not that person anymore
A lotta nostalgia for me watching this. My life was very different back then but that same feeling of excitement and wonder for what’s next is something that will always make me feel like a kid again
Arlo, you’ve been a little piece of our lives as well, and I, for one, am truly grateful for it. Keep doing what you do so well with your trademark charm and humility. Thank you!! ❤
Ive been a multi platform guy growing up but Nintendo and just their legacy and nicher games were always a part of my life, especially as i was transitoning into middle school/high school. So much of the 'dark era' the Wii U/3ds back in the early to mid 2010's got me closer to the type of games I jelled with and especially the content creators who would help connect me more to the people like me who were fans like Etika thru Smash 4 and Directs. I remember so well the NX to Switch reveal and so much of my time in h.s was really being just as excited and happy of the success through your channel Arlo and being excited about what Nintendo could do to keep the momentum. Really fond memories and great executed games all those years, even into the pandemic. Now being an adult with 8 years since then feels wild, but im still feeling the same passion and really excited for what the Switch 2 brings. All long winded to say, thanks Arlo for being a part of that. Loved this video and being with you for the ride for those 8 years 🫶
The mental health and maturing part was great! Good for you 👍 Gives me hope. And a bit of anxiety about not daring to get there because it sounds scary in a way.
It’s insane on how time flies so fast, We’re gonna find out about the Switch 2 very soon, And because of that, Let’s enjoy the couple of months we have left with the Switch.
It's wonderful you've been able to work so much on your anxiety. For me personally, I recently became a Christen after doing a lot of historical and philosophical research, and my anxiety has started to go away after spending almost a whole life time of it crippling me. My love and appreciation for those around me exploded, along with my love for video games! Love your videos, please keep up the great work and keep growing!
2016 seems both like yesterday and forever ago. It’s strange that it still seems i just got my Switch, probably because I still have a huge backlog of games I need to play.
The calm before the NX storm came out on September 9th, 2016, and just a month later, on October 20th, the Nintendo Switch was revealed. Will history repeat itself? Who knows. Who knows.
I'd like to defend the switch to an extent and say it definitely still has an identity and some of that Nintendo charm. Things like 1-2 Switch, Snipperclips, Miitopia, Arms, and Clubhouse Games all definitely give off a "Nintendo charm" that is unique to the switch. I think the main thing is that charm has been somewhat lost over the course of the generation. Things like themes, E-shop music, miis, streetpass, etc all have led to a more "corporate" feeling. I think some of that "Nintendo charm" we imagine is heavily linked to nostalgia. Especially for when the nintendo community was very close-knit. We all played every nintendo release, the e-shop was a small selection of unique indie games, and the wii-wiiU didn't get any 3rd parties. It felt a lot more like OUR system and OUR community.
@@LGreat16 Yes, it was my understanding they did a relatively big overhaul even though 70% of the content was the same. I don't remember the Mii-maker being as crazy on 3DS miitopia and tomodachi-life
I think Nintendo needed to step away from that in order to be as succesful as they are, but i don't think they fully getting rid of it, switch os was probably like that to avoid any similarities with the wii u or just technical issues, so Nintendo will in the future hybrid consoles, maybe not as groundbreaking innovations like wii, ds or switch were, but still with some cool gimnicks and 'nintendo' types of games to them
Dear Arlo, I too know you since the NX video and I have been watching almost all your videos here and the arlocasts on patreon. I listen to you very often when I try to fall asleep so you feel like a kind of friend to me. Hearing how well you developed, how much growth and happiness you are experiencing really made me so happy. Thank you for everything so far and please stay on track of happiness:)
17:05 - Pokemon was like that for me. Before it came to the US it sounded like this magical thing. I think I was the most enamored with it when it was still a mystery (and I was still a kid).

Your appendicitis, your other troubles, and now that we have topicarlo i can just see more content from you
I have some amazing memories because of you and i want you to know you make a big difference in peoples lives. Thank you Arlo.
Happy for ya, Arlo :)
This video is surprisingly touching
Nah Im gonna Emulate, their BS with Palworld is horse shit

The first time I watched one of your videos was on a Costco parking lot, listening to you through my earbuds while pushing carts in 101 degree weather. Since then I’ve got a house, a fiancé, and a cozy self-employed gig and I’m the happiest I’ve ever been.
I wish the same happiness to everyone here. Best wishes and can’t wait for that Switch 2 reveal!

Mrm64!!!!! I feel u on this and it’s Cait btw it’s cool to see u comment here and watch arlo like I do as a Nintendo fan 😊

"Whatever I am now, I feel good about it" is such a powerful statement. Really, truly the best you can hope for anybody.
Dear Arlo,
I’m writing this comment in a dramatic manner because your words have truly touched my heart.
Sincerely,
A fellow gamer
Lmao get a life you stinky as hell
My daughter was just a year old when Arlo's Calm Before the Storm video came out. Now she's 9 and if the time jump remains the same, will be 17 when we are back here speculating on Switch 3....that is kind of nuts to me.
I was 8 at that time 24 by switch 3. Time is going quick indeed.
i was 10, now i'm 18 in college
Wow that’s crazy dude, I was literally 8 at the time, I am 16 now🤘hits hard
Man, i remember when the Switch 4 came out back in 2055. I was 9 then. Those were some good times.
It's not as whimsical but I think the switch menus have an identity of their own still. The pop clicks and snaps are a strong sonic branding.
@@lanksart and probably part of the minimalist design is to focus all horsepower into the games

I cant believe the original video was 8 years ago, the early switch era is something i'll never forget, and it made it even more hype watching your videos
Remember rewatching that video a few months ago. Felt...dont want to say magical but it felt like having a room full of friends speculating what could and couldnt happen. Seeing Arlo and Gnoggin later at the midnight launch at the wrong location then went to grab a burger. lol
I hope the next Switch will be less sterile looking. I miss the cartoony look of the DSI, Wii, 3DS, and WiiU. It was a whole vibe.
@@danjoreddpersonally the like clean look of the switch made me so excited to get it when it came out
@@HeilRay That really was the best way to describe it lol.
Specially with how he mentioned before that once we know and it exists, it'll exist forever
That's a lovely story
marley and me was a childhood favorite. and yknow, thinking abt it now and as an adult, it tells such a similar story-the passage of time. idk if ive seen another movie really emphasize this, but god it is so beautiful to see how far we all go in life. i hope you and your family are doing well, and congratulations on the second baby
I cant believe Arlo is still not fully convinced that he is THE Pikmin guy
He isn't, not yet. He does not have perfect dominion over it. But trust, we shall help him achieve worldwide recognition of being "The Pikmin Guy™"
@@paulpaul20000if he had a whistle he’d have dominion of the niche

In my mind, Arlo is, in fact, "THE Pikman Guy."
Never been more excited to see a poorly mspaint drawn shooting star

As much time passed between now and 2016 as time passed between 2016 and 2004... I feel old even if I'm younger

The “Calm before the NX Storm” is what got me into your videos back then Arlo!! Happy to be a subscriber all these years later ☺️☺️
13:44 You got me emotional, let’s all get into this new exciting chapter together!

It has been an honor to be a part of your journey with this channel Arlo and i'm looking forward to the future of it
I can’t explain how badly I needed to hear this today because it applies so directly to the birth of my daughter that should be happening less than a month and this is exactly how I feel right now that calm before the life changing storm and just kind of waiting. Excitement and nerves and just ready, but also enjoying the time before this big life change Really means a lot to just kinda put out like that when I’ve been struggling to figure out how I feel and how to deal with my feelings so thank you Arlo. I appreciate you and your videos so much.
Its actually wild that I’ve been around here since the “Calm before the NX storm” video. Has it really been 8 years? Man, time flies.
Right???
This was such a fantastic video! It was filled with great insights and introspection. The music combined with your chatting and how you've changed/evolved over this console generation is such a good listen. It's audio equivalent of being wrapped up in a warm blanket on a cold winter night. Great stuff, Arlo!
I remember watching the original video back when you had just hit 50k. To be here almost 8 years later and still watching you is incredible!!
Love these reflective videos! Been on a similar journey ☺️ loved having you along for the ride and can’t wait for what’s next!!
I was just rewatching your “calm before the NX storm” video to relive some of that 2016 hype for nintendos next console. I’m so happy you made this.
One of the better written videos you’ve ever made dude
Dude, I still go back to the first "Calm Before the Storm" video! It's still one of your best! AND NOW YOU MADE A SEQUAL!!!!
I'm going through a really rough patch on the stretch of life, and somehow this video has made me feel something, something deeply hopeful, and Arlo, whoever you are out in the real world, I sincerely thank you for that. Your pen wrote a great video. Thank you.
Hope things improve for you soon. All the best
This was such a nostalgic, thought-provoking video. Thank you for this Arlo ♥️
This introspective as well as existential reflection is one of the most emotional things i've heard on RUclips.
Absolutely beautiful video, Arlo. Amazingly well done to you and Kane.
Just discovered this channel and I’m already proud of u dude
oh, i was hoping you’d do this again!!!! the calm before the NX storm video is one of my all time favourites of yours, and it made me so happy to get this notification.
hehe, i remember myself being in primary school and excitedly showing my friend your video on splatoon 2. just started university last monday, and though i dont play splatoon or even my switch that much anymore, ive always come back to your videos
I don't think I've ever felt more aged, or felt the passage of time harder than I have with these kinds of videos.
This was an awesome video. I've been watching your stuff since near the beginning, and I've loved it. It's so cool to have seen you grow as a creator, and this is such a great way to see this not as an opportunity to be impatient about the next system, but to be excited and enjoy this in-between.
Arlo's fur seems bluer now that he's an adult
Just like Sonic, the prophecy continues…
Kane went nuts with the star
I remember watching the calm before the storm back in 2016. And after any life decision i would reminisce.
My life now is completly different than it was back then. Unfortunately i dont know if its better but hearing arlos words made me feel a bit better.
I hope to one day reflect back on all the calm before the storm videos and feel like ive enjoyed life. look at the bad things and good and just be happy to experience it all.
I tend to bicker and self loathe a lot but im hoping for next calm before the storm video. Im not that person anymore
Hehe, I remember this one. Your channel did great since then.
Arlo I was in 5th grade when I started watching your NX videos and now I’m in college and this video made me ball thank you so much for everything man
A lotta nostalgia for me watching this. My life was very different back then but that same feeling of excitement and wonder for what’s next is something that will always make me feel like a kid again
I related heavy with what you said about your mental health. I've been having the same big changes in my mindset this year too
Arlo, you’ve been a little piece of our lives as well, and I, for one, am truly grateful for it. Keep doing what you do so well with your trademark charm and humility. Thank you!! ❤
I remember watching Arlo cover the launch of the switch 😭 that was SO LONG AGO! I was in seventh grade then, now I’m more than halfway through college
Loved this video and being with you for the ride for those 8 years 🫶
"We'll have plenty of time to know." Master Arlo, your zen gives me peace. u _ u
The mental health and maturing part was great! Good for you 👍 Gives me hope. And a bit of anxiety about not daring to get there because it sounds scary in a way.
2:54 interrupting this with an ad read is a crime, I hate it so much
I just got to this part and I feel it, funny but it really kills the tension.
I love it.
Flashbacks to when Tim Rogers destroyed the most beautiful video ever and shattered a perfectly moment with an ad. I will never forgive him.
It’s insane on how time flies so fast, We’re gonna find out about the Switch 2 very soon, And because of that, Let’s enjoy the couple of months we have left with the Switch.
Couple of months? If we're lucky we'll get it next winter
I bought my husband a switch when we first started dating. How has it already been 7 years?! Feels just like yesterday
Probably not that soon
@@Matanumi Yeah that’s too soon, But they could announce it by the beginning of next year.
Freaking loving this background music
The shooting star EXPLODES at the very end and Arlo is just like, "Welp, that'll happen. Back to calm reminiscence..."
So glad to hear that you're doing and feeling better, Arlo. 💙 Here's to the next 8 years!
Miitopia was originally a 3DS game, but I get your point
@@LGreat16 Yes, it was my understanding they did a relatively big overhaul even though 70% of the content was the same. I don't remember the Mii-maker being as crazy on 3DS miitopia and tomodachi-life
I think Nintendo needed to step away from that in order to be as succesful as they are, but i don't think they fully getting rid of it, switch os was probably like that to avoid any similarities with the wii u or just technical issues, so Nintendo will in the future hybrid consoles, maybe not as groundbreaking innovations like wii, ds or switch were, but still with some cool gimnicks and 'nintendo' types of games to them
Dear Arlo,
I too know you since the NX video and I have been watching almost all your videos here and the arlocasts on patreon.
Switch definitely has its own charm what
