An idea I have for backward compatability is to have a disk drive built into the stand for wii and gamecube games. For the DS, just have a separate slot for the games on the switch itself. That way, the mobile games stay mobile, while the older games have to be docked, or they could just have a 1 time verification of a disk, and then it will work portabaly. That being said, what they would do in that situation would be to charge a 1 to 2 dollar fee per game as proof of ownership of said game so it can then be played portabaly.

I would LOVE that! And I thought of how to do it. Wireless dock or the dock without blocking the screen that BeatEmUps showed. You could use the touchscreen of the Switch as the bottom screen while having the top screen be the TV!
i think the best thing Nintendo could do for the Switch 2 for a gimmick is giving it the Smash Ultimate treatment by having a return amalgamation of all the best parts of their previous systems, making themes available, having a social hub similar to the Miiverse, having artistic apps like flipnote, download play for select titles so people can easily play new releases with their friends, allow easily swappable shells/ plates to give character to their console, consider adding more recent console VC to their library past what they've already done. I think Nintendo's stronghold messaging should be that they're still the fresh creative console and reaffirm that it's meant to be enjoyed the way the consumer wants to, not being dictated by Nintendo how they should be using their console.

Meanwhile all I see is pokemon scarlet and violet in -4k rendering, graphics, minimum -60 fps.

All he got wrong (supposedly) No bezel, Super Nintendo switch name, small dock.
11:41 I feel like we need it since I think it can not just be your usual Camera Phones has but could also be the new Kinect Xbox had that got Discontinued + I think it would be way better than the IR Camera
one feature i want is a return of streetpass from 3ds, it would give people more reason to bring their consoles on the go. Oh and i hope the switch 2 has more quirk and personality that older nintendo consoles had.
This vid reminded me of a concept I followed as a child: I only bought consoles that had a game I REALLY wanted. These days where everyone seems to have every console and "has" to try every game even if they weren't excited for it, it's very easy to forget the core concepts hah
I hadn’t owned a console since the Wii and I had never bought a console as an adult. I was very happy with the Nintendo Switch being both a mobile and a home console when I bought it in 2021. I definitely can’t wait for a new one to come out.
12:24 I thought you brought up the previous home consoles & handheld consoles earlier in the video to point out that this feature they've patented would make it possible for the "Switch 2" to play games not only the same way we can play Switch games, but also WiiU & DS games. Having 2 screens that can be separated so that the top screen can be docked like the Switch & the bottom screen can be your controller like on the WiiU is the exact feature that makes that possible.
I really hope the next Nintendo console will be much like the Switch, I enjoy the silent and extremely portable handheld mode, I don't use the dock at all. I hope it has OLED and no camera.
You know, the camera, microphone, and step counter were all DS/3DS things there. Having them would make sense for if they want to add DS/3DS games to Nintendo Online or even ports of the games there Just as a note, the backwards compatibility is also something major with the Nintendo Handhelds...up until the Advance you could play all GB games, and the DS could still use Advance games as well.
One of two options: 1- It’ll be a CRT that weighs 100 pounds, you need a pry bar to get the new joycons off, its highest resolution is 27p, and it’ll use NeoGeo AES cartridges. Look em up, they’re freaking huge! Or 2- It’s a Switch sold with a Wii U gamepad from old Wii U console stock. …And will be $550 There is no other option
correction: Mario Kart 9 is technically the phone app, that’s why the DLC for Deluxe took so long. (they used levels from the phone app game in each of the new cups) as for Circuit.. you could argue that Mario Kart Circuit is Mario Kart 10, so we’re waiting for 11.
They should make it so you can disconnect the two screens of which are usually connected with magnets so you can connect the second screen to the tv and can play primarily on the tv and have something like a minimap on the normal screen, kinda like the ds, 2ds, and 3ds but on crack.
Me and a friend made and even partially designed a "Super Nintendo" a solid four years ago which included a two screen switch, a console dock which was fully backwards compatible with all previous consoles and even specialty controllers to use for each console. To see some of these ideas resurfaced memories i didnt know I still had.
i think there will be backwards compatability, you would use your current switch games on the switch 2 but the graphics will be the same as on the current switch, meaning that they could resell the same games as " remakes " AKA they will have enhanced graphics, so if youd want the full potential of the console, youd have to rebuy your games
Yeah, I'm plenty content with my 60" and 50" 3D plasma TVs from Panasonic. They look great and I never feel like they need to be 4K. If I want higher resolution gaming I play PC games on my 1440P 32" monitor.
the one thing I want is more customizability. I don't want to rip apart my joycons to swap the shells, I just want my switch to look cute. Also customizing the home screen like on the 3DS would be such a good thing, I have having all my apps dumped in one place, and I hate even more having to scroll to see all the apps
iPhone went straight from iPhone 8 to iPhone 10, and Windows also went from Windows 8 to Windows 10. Everyone avoids the number 9 because it is considered unlucky. They’re probably going to name it Mario Kart 10 or X, and they had deluxe versions and mobile versions after 8 so it wont seem too off
"Attach" also reminds me of "attaching" multiple screens together as shown at 13:20 That would actually be a huge selling point as a totally new feature for the new console.
22:40 That's why it has a touchscreen. That's what you use in handheld. The only place touchpads are reasonable would be in the Pro controllers. 25:20 You forgot Smash bros. I, myself, looks forward to another Snipperclips or something in the similar style.
20:29 Are you discussing this because you forgot that the Switch has a touch screen; or is that not seen as a sufficient alternative to a mouse by mouse users?
16:30 the problem with the Wii U is most people thought it was a Wii accessory, not a new console. I and most of my friends thought this for the longest time.
Backwards Compatibility is GONNA HAPPEN. Wii was backwards compatible with GameCube, 3DS was backwards compatible with the DS and the Wii U was compatible with the Wii. All the Nintendo games in the past 15 years or so had backwards compatibility. I think the Switch was just such a giant change from the Wii U or 3DS the next one will.
"I had a mustache when I recorded that footage" Is such an easy, yet simple reasoning for why videos can take long to come out with comedic timings like this.
I don't know about the console itself, but I do want the controllers (both Joy Con and Pro Controller) to have better D-Pad, analog triggers and magnetic analog sticks. As for the console itself, though, I do want to see that dual screen concept. It could revive the DS and Wii U days, just without the handicap of having their development divisions separated and offering traditional gameplay styles to keep developers and consumers alike invested on the platform even if they dislike the gimmick.
I dont think it's coming till next year or the year after. Our local GameStop said it was coming this spring and now they are saying its coming this fall . Thats impossible when its not been revealed or announced yet we dont even know what it's called or what it will look like . usually consoles get announced first then revealed shortly after sometimes around four to six months later and even a year after then shortly after that it goes on sale . None of this has happened so to say its coming out in three months or even six months is crazy and baseless. Unless they break all the rules and shadow drop an entire console and next gen games without any marketing with is possible but very very unlikely.
The things I would love to see on the Switch 2. - 720p 60fps handheld - 1080p 60fps (minimum) docked, anything above that can be upscaled with AI/DLSS/FSR - Hall effect Analog sticks (I've done an upgrade on mine joycons and it is working very well), yes it drives the cost a bit higher but it resolves the stick-drift issue - Better hardware, not a 3 year old chip at release that is now 10 year old at the end of Switch's life cycle it's time. Also more RAM, 4GB ain't cutting it anymore. These four are the biggest gripes I have with the console,
Nintendo needs to do backwards compatibility and have the selling point that the original switch games are enhanced on The Switch 2. This will ensure gamers to sell or hand down their old console and buy the new one will keeping the old games and still buy new games. It also gives new switch gamers a way to play the games they missed out on
Nobody buys a new console to play old games. People buy new console to play new games. People are overrating backwards compatibility so much. Switch doesn’t have backwards compatibility and it is their most successful console. Wii u had backward compatibility and it is abysmal failure. It doesn’t matter.
@@hododod246 this is simply not true both PS5 and XBOX Series consoles have backward compatibility as a selling point. Those consoles are doing good. No one is saying they shouldnt make switch 2 games but it should be able to play switch 1 titles
@@hododod246 what about ps5??? Xbox one of course isnt doing well they have like 1 exclusive. Nintendo has a bunch of exclusives so they wont have the same failure like xbox
If they made the switch 2 the one leaked with 2 screens, made it able to play current switch games and be compatible with ds/3ds games that would be amazing and I would buy one instantly. I've been wanting a third party device to play 3ds games on like the steam deck but the lack of 2 screens means it isn't great. This would be an easy opportunity to get another group of people buying the new console
24:22 things are gonna get crazy when they show the switch 2 trailer and they show someone playing a new mario kart for 1.5 seconds like they did with mario odyssey on the switch
If they want to keep a phone app, they better make it so it can attach to the top of the main system and use it at it full potential. Like the camera on the phone, additional touch button to add it to the game, tidying menus windows so you don't have to press ton of buttons to navigate from map, to items management, to notepad for your to do list in the game. Since teen to adult are the one who have a phone, add video and voice chat. Use it in a way that the phone is the second screen of the main screen not just an afterthought accessories. That not only Nintendo but any developers can use it for their games.

With the newer leaks the "switch attach" makes so much sense, and i would actually love that name for it, everyone could call it an "attach"
Phone connectivity could be KILLER. Quick split screen, display your minimap or inventory, a quick ad-hoc controller, send over screenshots and videos instantly, so many practical uses...
I'll pay an extra $50 for an OLED screen easy. I'll take 1080p in handheld, maybe 1440p docked, 4k 60fps sounds unreasonable.
You can homebrew your switch and already upscale it to 4k so it's definitely not unreasonable.. it's more about battery
6:24 me who has been using the same 1080p tv for 10+ years
Just got a PS5 slim and a switch don't plan upgrading my 1080p yet
Same with me and also similar to me using a 720p monitor with my rx 6750xt, with my second screen being a square monitor
@@enduro_xr150l4 theoretically if you got a PS5 you're wasting it on a 1080p television, you're not getting the full resolution it's capable of outputting
21:37 i can't believe you predicted the alarmo
Saw this come up, then it was taken down 😢. So glad I get to watch a video from wood today!
14:19 I love that you mentioned this, because did you know you can join a Jackbox Party game with your Nintendo 3DS internet browser?
Giving the Switch an internet browser and letting phones connect to it can unlock more of these possibilities!
I'm amazed that he would think Nintendo would do all these (21:30) while they can't even give us more backgrounds or themes.
I also love how excited he is for pokemon legends ZA for the next state of the art switch technology, 4k rendering, high fidelity graphics, minimum 60 fps. Meanwhile all I see is pokemon scarlet and violet in -4k rendering, graphics, minimum -60 fps.
25:38 mk 10 is correct
but home circuit doesnt count, mk tour is 9
also its gonna be named 10 because IT will be the last one (totally not a windows 10 refference)
6 months later - still no switch 2 reveal
22:56 i dont think they will make the switches edges rounded, it just jooks weird for when you have joycons on them
Switch 2 is the best name. That's what everyone will call it anyway.
He got this surprisingly correct as of January 10th 2025.
Here is everything he got correct.
Hybrid Handheld, nvidia chip + ai upscaling, docked mode upscaling, lcd screen, backwards compatibility, new way to attach joy con, and MK10 on launch (although it looks like it’s going to be called MK9).
All he got wrong (supposedly)
No bezel, Super Nintendo switch name, small dock.
Mystic Wood predicts the future again (you do have an uncanny knack for getting these things right lol 🙂)
11:45
but a user facing camera could also be used for seeing each other in online multiplayer games, so it's not that niche.
14:28
This is why I think a user facing camera would be worth having on the console; for video chat aswell as voice chat.
Bro I saw this early but it got deleted
same
Same
@@Doodles51gocame
why
11:41 I feel like we need it since I think it can not just be your usual Camera Phones has but could also be the new Kinect Xbox had that got Discontinued + I think it would be way better than the IR Camera
I'm READY for the SWITCH 2
SUPER NINTENDO SWITCH!
No
22:59 i dont think it will have no bezels, itll be like the oled
The Wii had backwards compatibility. End of question
one feature i want is a return of streetpass from 3ds, it would give people more reason to bring their consoles on the go. Oh and i hope the switch 2 has more quirk and personality that older nintendo consoles had.
Great video. Love the thought but those fiver modelers are doing robbery out there on you my man.
This vid reminded me of a concept I followed as a child: I only bought consoles that had a game I REALLY wanted. These days where everyone seems to have every console and "has" to try every game even if they weren't excited for it, it's very easy to forget the core concepts hah
Why was the last one deleted 😂
I know
It was clickbaity
It ended in the middle of a sentence.
@@niet-stijnI was 3 mins in 😂
@@Lo0ny_T0ons I watched it to the 'end', but it was clear that that wasn't supposed to be the end.
I hadn’t owned a console since the Wii and I had never bought a console as an adult. I was very happy with the Nintendo Switch being both a mobile and a home console when I bought it in 2021. I definitely can’t wait for a new one to come out.
Going to do any weird accessories those are my fav vids
12:24
I thought you brought up the previous home consoles & handheld consoles earlier in the video to point out that this feature they've patented would make it possible for the "Switch 2" to play games not only the same way we can play Switch games, but also WiiU & DS games.
Having 2 screens that can be separated so that the top screen can be docked like the Switch & the bottom screen can be your controller like on the WiiU is the exact feature that makes that possible.
It has been 6 months
been 6 months and no switch 2 so I just went ahead and bought a modded oled switch
Still love watching his video without owning a nintendo switch 😂
I really hope the next Nintendo console will be much like the Switch, I enjoy the silent and extremely portable handheld mode, I don't use the dock at all. I hope it has OLED and no camera.
You know, the camera, microphone, and step counter were all DS/3DS things there. Having them would make sense for if they want to add DS/3DS games to Nintendo Online or even ports of the games there
Just as a note, the backwards compatibility is also something major with the Nintendo Handhelds...up until the Advance you could play all GB games, and the DS could still use Advance games as well.
21:37 BRO PREDICTED ALARMO 💀💀💀💀
One of two options:
1- It’ll be a CRT that weighs 100 pounds, you need a pry bar to get the new joycons off, its highest resolution is 27p, and it’ll use NeoGeo AES cartridges. Look em up, they’re freaking huge!
Or 2- It’s a Switch sold with a Wii U gamepad from old Wii U console stock. …And will be $550
There is no other option
That's how that black thingie around the screen is called? A Bezel?
i'ma gonna be disappointed if it's not "Super Nintendo Switch"
correction: Mario Kart 9 is technically the phone app, that’s why the DLC for Deluxe took so long. (they used levels from the phone app game in each of the new cups)
as for Circuit.. you could argue that Mario Kart Circuit is Mario Kart 10, so we’re waiting for 11.
I hope it’s called the Nintendo flip and has a folding screen like the Samsung fold phone
(I know it won’t happen but a man can dream)
They should make it so you can disconnect the two screens of which are usually connected with magnets so you can connect the second screen to the tv and can play primarily on the tv and have something like a minimap on the normal screen, kinda like the ds, 2ds, and 3ds but on crack.
I always thought Nintendo would release an upgraded dock to add horsepower as a mid-gen refresh on the Switch.
Me and a friend made and even partially designed a "Super Nintendo" a solid four years ago which included a two screen switch, a console dock which was fully backwards compatible with all previous consoles and even specialty controllers to use for each console. To see some of these ideas resurfaced memories i didnt know I still had.
I love your Nintendo vidos
I SAW THE SMALLVILLE CLIP WITH LEX!!! GIGA-CHAD TASTE!!!
You was a bit off and it was 8 months
i think there will be backwards compatability, you would use your current switch games on the switch 2 but the graphics will be the same as on the current switch, meaning that they could resell the same games as " remakes " AKA they will have enhanced graphics, so if youd want the full potential of the console, youd have to rebuy your games
Dear Wood, with all due respect........... WE DON'T ALL HAVE 4K TELEVISIONS ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
He’s just saying it’s not very expensive to upgrade to 4k at this point….which is true.
$298 For a 58 inch hisense 4k tv at walmart=)
Yeah, I'm plenty content with my 60" and 50" 3D plasma TVs from Panasonic. They look great and I never feel like they need to be 4K. If I want higher resolution gaming I play PC games on my 1440P 32" monitor.
That’s definitely a personal problem at this point
@@xXSHADOWxXODELL You're saying that like 298 is cheap..
Wood was in fact insanely inaccurate about the Switch 2’s design
6 MONTHS LATER ...
Uhhh
the one thing I want is more customizability. I don't want to rip apart my joycons to swap the shells, I just want my switch to look cute. Also customizing the home screen like on the 3DS would be such a good thing, I have having all my apps dumped in one place, and I hate even more having to scroll to see all the apps
Ist been 6 Months
iPhone went straight from iPhone 8 to iPhone 10, and Windows also went from Windows 8 to Windows 10. Everyone avoids the number 9 because it is considered unlucky. They’re probably going to name it Mario Kart 10 or X, and they had deluxe versions and mobile versions after 8 so it wont seem too off
Hot Take: maybe the switch 2 will launch with gta 6
I honestly think they can’t really go backwards form OLED. It wouldn’t look as good and be as you have said a step backwards.
Dis aged like milk when u were like it will all be true in 6 months, its been 6 months and nothings changed
"Attach" also reminds me of "attaching" multiple screens together as shown at 13:20
That would actually be a huge selling point as a totally new feature for the new console.
22:40 That's why it has a touchscreen. That's what you use in handheld. The only place touchpads are reasonable would be in the Pro controllers.
25:20 You forgot Smash bros. I, myself, looks forward to another Snipperclips or something in the similar style.
it is the iPhone now, slight upgrade but still years behind everyone else
21:55 A sale? from Nintendo? doubt
Here after the showcase, pretty close
20:29
Are you discussing this because you forgot that the Switch has a touch screen; or is that not seen as a sufficient alternative to a mouse by mouse users?
If they don’t bring back streetpass I WILL CRY MYSELF TO SLEEP 😭
Because it’s a portable console just like the 3ds
I just want to be happy when I see a small green light after I’ve been outside again
"we all have 4k TVs at this point" sadly looks over at my 1080p television. "He didn't mean it , it's ok"
😂😂😂😂
16:30 the problem with the Wii U is most people thought it was a Wii accessory, not a new console. I and most of my friends thought this for the longest time.
Backwards Compatibility is GONNA HAPPEN. Wii was backwards compatible with GameCube, 3DS was backwards compatible with the DS and the Wii U was compatible with the Wii. All the Nintendo games in the past 15 years or so had backwards compatibility. I think the Switch was just such a giant change from the Wii U or 3DS the next one will.
"I had a mustache when I recorded that footage"
Is such an easy, yet simple reasoning for why videos can take long to come out with comedic timings like this.
The cut from I had a mustach in the footage, to you hanging from the left croner upside down with a moustache was hilarious xD
The things I would love to see on the Switch 2.
- 720p 60fps handheld
- 1080p 60fps (minimum) docked, anything above that can be upscaled with AI/DLSS/FSR
- Hall effect Analog sticks (I've done an upgrade on mine joycons and it is working very well), yes it drives the cost a bit higher but it resolves the stick-drift issue
- Better hardware, not a 3 year old chip at release that is now 10 year old at the end of Switch's life cycle it's time.
@@TamagoSarada_ no xbox is not doing well. It is backwards compatible all the way down to original xbox and it is doing worse than xbox one.
