As soon as I saw you say you were going to put the Switch under water in the case I was like..... Oh gawd that's a horrible idea. Not put the actual Switch in there
Yeah, another channel called Wulff den also test it out a seemingly waterproof case, but he used a piece of paper instead of a switch and by the end of it the piece of paper was totally soaked

2:55 I believe the general majority of the case is “waterproof” in sense that rain won’t get in if it lands on it or it gets splashed. But the zipper area is definitely not waterproof, it will not make it through SUBMERSION. Aside from that I think it simply looked simplistic and rather stylish
Waterproof does mean you can submerge it. That's why it's practically not legal to advertise a product as waterproof unless it's actually completely waterproof, and most products, even the ones that can fully handle submersion for a long period while turned on (i.e. any iPhone from the last 6-7 years) can only use the term "water-resistant". He said in the video waterproof, so either the product page does not say that or it's completely false advertising (yes! even if it can handle rain that's false advertising!)
Yea I found the waterproof case myself, their claim is "water resistant" which is not the same thing as waterproof, also your talking about not being able to unplug the battery while literally holding it by the unplugged batter wire
The lining of the case itself maybe water proof but the zipper has tons of holes that allow water to get through if it was supposed to be fully waterproof they would need to add something to cover the zippers obviously the company didn’t think that people would be dunking the case into a pitcher but the idea is very useful if for example your water bottle leaks in your bag
ya he just needed to unplug it and then rice up the console, still going to be messed up but might have helped alot. No idea how this guy even got a large channel with, that display was moronic.
You can see that the fabric of the case is hydrophobic because water drips off of it. So it's probably splash proof but water will still enter at the zipper area.
Well most people would understand that... Most people. I mean, it only takes a half a second of logical thought to think about the water getting through the zipper if completely submerged. Logical thought wasn't used today.
yeah I don't think even the ykk zippers designed for "waterproof" clothing would even hold back water from submersion. If someone can make a hard plastic case with rubber gasket then it would come close to waterproof
also, I have 2 pair of joycon and my switch in a Skull & Co gripcase... everytime I need to recharge one pair of joycon its like: get the switch, remove the gripcase, change the joycons, put the gripcase back on, put the switch on the dock...
There are waterproof zippers, they are often used on expensive motorcycle gear. These cases are usually listed as "splash resistant" not waterproof, if he would have just spilled water on the case or put it under a tap it probably would have been fine. But he submerged it for some reason.
23:21 lol I use these while hiking, it's nice to be able to play games for awhile in the tent at night before bed and they help alot in extending battery life in the middle of the woods
The fact that he could have just put a paper towel (or anything else really) inside the "waterproof" case but he decided to put a working Switch in it is just fascinating to me haha

That guy seems really chill after hearing about water damage switch which really made you wondering how many times someone has asked him to fix a overly damage switch 🤔 What a legend
As someone who does some repairing probably a lot. People drench their electronics more often than you would think. The worst is always sugary beverages that were accidentally spilled, I once had to first scrape dried up sugary crust off before I could even open it, it was an N64 and the crust was bright neon blue.
The battery pack could be used for people with a Lite, or if you don't dock the joycons on a charger when you're done using it. For example, if you constantly forget to put them on the Switch, then it could help? Still weird though.
The case being waterproof is probably just about the material of the case, not the ability to submerge it in water with a powered on Switch without breaking it.
If they are advertising as 100% water proof. It's supposed to be 100% water proof. Since this clearly isn't the case, they can get sued for false advertising.

7:22 what makes me laugh is that simply disconnecting the battery from the motherboard has the same effect as physically removing it from the device. Your tech buddy only wanted you to cut the power supply from the board 🤣😂 He even said "I would UNPLUG the battery"
I'm not gonna lie - the part where you just documented your experiences with real people fixing the joycon is so refreshing and I loved this part of the video. Please take us shopping or something lol. I know we're like in a pandemic, but if there's an opportunity to do it safely, please take it :)
As a computer repair technician I'm a little upset that spawn told you to take out the entire battery. After you simply disconnect the power that was probably good enough to just let it dry and try again in a couple days. Severe miscommunication on his part.
@@scarffoxandfriends9401 what are you talking about when you disconnect the battery cable from the main board the power is not circulating thus there's no chance of shortage which is why he told him to take the battery out in the first place.
@@scarffoxandfriends9401 You have to be extremely specific when it comes to technical instructions. If Spawn wasn't sure he should have just said turn it off and take it to a company. Not saying Spawn was being malicious but he was not being considerate to possible misinterpretations his friend might have made. Language is extremely important especially when it comes to technical language. As a computer science kind of guy that writes technical documents as part of his job this was a big oof. He should have specifically said "Open the switch and remove the battery cable from the motherboard only, then let it dry" or something to that extent.
@@rokku87 I think the major thing here is Spawn job was to fix consoles himself. He never instructed people to do it. So that's why he said "just unplug it" because that's how it thinks of the situation. I don't blame him for being anymore specific because most people don't take the leap of logic that unplug means to take the whole battery out. He probably would have been more specific if Wood told him the reason his switch was soaked was becuase he took an Amazon page showing a case with a little rain on it was the same thing as being able to dunk it underwater.
I think the joycon double battery pack actually makes a lot of sense😅 Whenever I'm on vacation with my parents there aren't enough places in the wall to put plugs in for recharging so often mobiles get prioritised and everything else doesn't get charged for days
I follow Wood on Twitch and I remember seeing "I broke my switch" and two days later "I broke another switch" and wondered what in the world has he done now
Why not just sell it as a grip then? Seems odd to have the joycons in a grip that will charge it with AA batteries. It would also be cheaper if it was just an attachment vs having a circuit board inside.
Isn't waterproof and water submersion different? That's why some watches say water-resistant and others state up to x meters of submersion? Anyways hope your switch survives.
my friend told me in the past in the case of phones (he works w phones) water resistant usually means they can handle light splashes, rain, spills, etc but waterproof is supposed to be more legit full water protection (as in submerssible). for example a waterproof camera is a camera you should be able to use underwater (like the old cheapie Kodak waterproof ones).
Water Resistant means random water got on it as in a very small amount. Waterproof has different meanings, take watches for instance they will actually say waterproof up to 10 ft or something like that on them telling you the limits. So waterproof in this instance probably meant if you sprayed it with a hose for a few seconds you would be okay. More water than water resistant, but not total submersion. This is what happens when it's subject to interpretation.
I bought that Ipego charging dock about a year and a half ago when I first got my switch. I love it it works great and always does its job and I usually charge all 6 of my controllers at once. Anyone who is looking for a great way to charge all of your joycons at once like if you want to play a party game where you need all of them I would heavily suggest it great quality for the money!
I still can't believe how many accessories are for the Switch. It seems like there's definitely a lot more for it then even the DS or the Wii! Also, when that Switch went in the water, my heart sank.
seeing you almost start a fire because you were worried the wet battery would start a fire was pretty funny not gonna lie. next time, just drop some isopropyl alcohol around the edges of the battery and let it work itself into the adhesive then you can safely remove the battery without damaging it.
The funniest thing about the waterproof case test is that you didn't even need to put a switch in it to test if it worked. You could have just dunked the case in water and then opened it to see if the inside was wet. I suppose that's less dramatic but whatever lol.
To anybody reading this, I pray that whatever is hurting you or whatever you are constantly stressing about gets better. May the dark thoughts, the overthinking, and the doubt exit your mind may clarity replace confusion. And may peace and calmness fill your life.
I love how he apologized for the derailing, when im literally living for the de railing, it adds to the video so its just not the unboxings and it makes the whole story another video Its enterntaining, listen idk man i have adhd too thats probably why i like it
The battery pack one kinda makes sense, I go to a bar that has a bunch of switches hooked up to TVs everywhere and I can imagine I’d run down kinda fast so those would be helpful in that instance
Funny, I had that galaxy controller on my amazon list! Glad to see the same controller (in a diff color) in this video. Side note about the joycon controller charge time... mine once died after only a few hours of gaming, but that only happened once.
As practical as the bear face controller was, I might actually consider it beyond weird into terrifying. Just look at it, that stuff is nightmare fuel. There's a certain level of cute, this breaches that, this is unnerving.
22:36 every time I buy a bag, let it be a purse, a small backpack, anything, I always make sure my switch fits inside first because I like bringing my switch places. When I made a purse I made a pocket just for my switch with a holder for game cartridges and a charger!
I shouldn’t laugh. And my laugh went to “oh crap” when it sparked. Also love the reference to Australia with the chips and sauce lol. Much love from Adelaide Aus.
I just love that you actually dunked your beloved Mario Switch just for the sake of it. Probably the most honest love letter to a RUclips community ever. You're a legend man.
I’ve had the ipega joycon charger for awhile and it’s great. My only concern with it is leaving the joycons on there for too long if they aren’t being used so I usually take them off if they aren’t used in a day or two.
When I heard waterproof, my sense came faster before he could even say waterproof, before my dad even came back with my milk I needed for cereal for 10 years “OH BOY I KNOW WHERE THIS IS GOING :)”
I'll be honest, I brought the battery pack, it was mainly for when I went to Japan as the flight was 12 hours. But I never used them and haven't since 😂. They were designed for Arms as they give you a better grip and longer play time, although going by the 20 hours battery life I can't see anyone running low anyway
I have owned the Vive Fox Joy Pad for a few months now. They're actually quite nice for the price. You do not have to charge them independently via the USB port on the side. They charge while attached to the Switch when it's on the dock. And have a good battery life on them. I'd buy them again, for sure.
I use the battery ones I love it. I never charge anything and when people want to play it's nice to have them as a back up not to mention my husband loves them cuz they are bigger than the normal joy cons.
I actually kinda like the batter packs for the joycons. If you have bigger hands it makes them chunkier to use separately while docked while also charging them. You could also buy rechargeable double a's, so you can reuse those as well. Yea you can just plug it into the switch to charge them but if you mostly use your switch docked and want to charge another pair and play at the same time their pretty useful. I think if you could slide them into the switch it would make it that much better cause you could charge them with the switch turned off.
The joycon batteries could be helpful when travelling and you have limited access to power and want to charge a second set. Like it would be good to not have to change the joycons over on the switch itself when it’s charging through a cord/wall plug or battery pack rather than the dock and then take the extra time to have multiple sets charge so my friends and I can play smash while camping.
To be fair to the oddly angled grips, they do help with putting less strain on the wrists, since that grip makes you hold them in a way your wrists aren't bent I don't know, it just helped me personally since I have really severe RA with swollen wrists
I’m still in a weird mental deja vu after watching you walk into they retro madness. I usually hit there, the Wild West comics next door and the half priced books all at once 😂

@@scarffoxandfriends9401 what are you talking about when you disconnect the battery cable from the main board the power is not circulating thus there's no chance of shortage which is why he told him to take the battery out in the first place.
@@rokku87 I rewatched the video and Spawn actually did not say to remove the entire battery. He said "unplug the battery".
That was such a journey of the first 12 minutes, glad for a happy ending!
I loved it !
I've actually been to that Retro Madness. It really is an amazing place.
Yeah my dad is one of the managers 😂
You could have had the zipper facing up when you did the waterproof test. That would have reduced the chances of water getting in the case.
The screw up was turning it on without making sure it was 100% dry. There's a possibility it would've worked fine
The sad thing is that the batery entry could become rusty and so the switch stopped caunging, actually all he did were the worst choices
I follow Wood on Twitch and I remember seeing "I broke my switch" and two days later "I broke another switch" and wondered what in the world has he done now
I'm actually convinced the battery connector was broken by the water and that's why the switch wouldn't stay on.
To be honest, the battery pack thing may be useful as a grip more than a battery pack if you want to play with them separated in each hand.
Why not just sell it as a grip then? Seems odd to have the joycons in a grip that will charge it with AA batteries. It would also be cheaper if it was just an attachment vs having a circuit board inside.
Yhea, Im surprised Hori hasn't made individual grips with that mold, without the electronic components
Pro tip, if you really want a water proof switch case then use a air tight plastic bag, that would prob work better
Him: * pulls on the little cable from the battery *
Me: * dies inside *
I bought that Ipego charging dock about a year and a half ago when I first got my switch. I love it it works great and always does its job and I usually charge all 6 of my controllers at once. Anyone who is looking for a great way to charge all of your joycons at once like if you want to play a party game where you need all of them I would heavily suggest it great quality for the money!
19:46 I have one like this but it’s a dog, it’s pretty practical because of its size everything is so close together 😂
I still can't believe how many accessories are for the Switch. It seems like there's definitely a lot more for it then even the DS or the Wii!
Also, when that Switch went in the water, my heart sank.
ba dum tss
@@BreaksBee You beat me to it
The case is probably more like water resistant, meaning water can only go in through the zipper, meaning the case is resilient to rain and spills
seeing you almost start a fire because you were worried the wet battery would start a fire was pretty funny not gonna lie. next time, just drop some isopropyl alcohol around the edges of the battery and let it work itself into the adhesive then you can safely remove the battery without damaging it.
I’ve watched every video in the series twice and would watch them again can’t wait for more
That bear controller is adorable
I'm thinking on getting it for my kid haha it looks super cute!! And good size for tiny hands
The funniest thing about the waterproof case test is that you didn't even need to put a switch in it to test if it worked. You could have just dunked the case in water and then opened it to see if the inside was wet. I suppose that's less dramatic but whatever lol.
Finding controllers dead randomly happens to me to those batter packs would actually be pretty nice, especially if they’re reminiscent of wii motes
I love the backup battery packs solely to make the joycons more comfortable and prevent my hands from cramping
13:56 "It's not rocket surgery or brain science" lol
Those Joy-Con battery packs look like they give a good extra grip on the controllers. I would like to have them, just for that reason.
To anybody reading this, I pray that whatever is hurting you or whatever you are constantly stressing about gets better. May the dark thoughts, the overthinking, and the doubt exit your mind may clarity replace confusion. And may peace and calmness fill your life.
I love how he apologized for the derailing, when im literally living for the de railing, it adds to the video so its just not the unboxings and it makes the whole story another video
Its enterntaining, listen idk man i have adhd too thats probably why i like it
The battery pack one kinda makes sense, I go to a bar that has a bunch of switches hooked up to TVs everywhere and I can imagine I’d run down kinda fast so those would be helpful in that instance
I love when you go out and do stuff. The interaction with the tech guy was great
Funny, I had that galaxy controller on my amazon list!
I swear at this point they are only making switch accessory so you can make those video. Glorious!
Low-key mad he said 'ketchup' though hey
First of all he shouldn’t have turned it on. Then he should of put it in rice
I just love that you actually dunked your beloved Mario Switch just for the sake of it.
Probably the most honest love letter to a RUclips community ever.
You're a legend man.
22:34 leaving my child behind. Now I suffer the curse and now I am blind.
Wood can you do a Amiibo collection tour, I think it would be cool to see all of yours. Also I know you have the Metroid and Samus two pack.
I’ve had the ipega joycon charger for awhile and it’s great. My only concern with it is leaving the joycons on there for too long if they aren’t being used so I usually take them off if they aren’t used in a day or two.
The way you were yanking the cable to try pull out the battery physically hurt me.
Who knew the best review ever involved 2 broken switches. I was so invested in that story. 😂
It baffles me that you have like a thousand Switches, yet you used your main one.... dude, why? x.x
Why though
You needed to use a heat gun or hairdryer to loosen the glue
for the “waterproof” case you could have put a piece of cardboard in instead of a switch 😅
When I heard waterproof, my sense came faster before he could even say waterproof, before my dad even came back with my milk I needed for cereal for 10 years
“OH BOY I KNOW WHERE THIS IS GOING :)”
2:42 "water proof" man, it's probably just hydrophobic on the outside, i've never seen waterproof zippers
12:45 - Where can I find those?
they’re going to be my official emergency contact for my switch. They seem amazing, I’m so glad they fixed the switch !!
I'll be honest, I brought the battery pack, it was mainly for when I went to Japan as the flight was 12 hours. But I never used them and haven't since 😂. They were designed for Arms as they give you a better grip and longer play time, although going by the 20 hours battery life I can't see anyone running low anyway
i would love an amazon list with the stuff you bought!!!
Imagine my surprise, when he ACTUALLY friggin put his switch in. Oi.
I'm so glad the red switch story had a happy ending and it all got fixed
Wood, My Guy,You Are Wholesome! My Only Stress Release Is Your Videos, So THANK YOU!
Glad the switch water situation had a happy ending. :P
I have owned the Vive Fox Joy Pad for a few months now. They're actually quite nice for the price. You do not have to charge them independently via the USB port on the side. They charge while attached to the Switch when it's on the dock. And have a good battery life on them. I'd buy them again, for sure.
“iPega?! i barely know her” had me rolling 🤣🤣😂😂😂
I just love how unexpected everything is going. Better than any Netflix series.
I use the battery ones I love it. I never charge anything and when people want to play it's nice to have them as a back up not to mention my husband loves them cuz they are bigger than the normal joy cons.
Same! Allways forget to charge my extra, so this is great
I actually kinda like the batter packs for the joycons.
I love how he was just like, "oh cool you fixed it! Now fix this one"
The guy was probably like " what did you do now"
The battery grips would be useful for modded joycons with light up buttons. Cool gamer lights take a big hit on battery uptime.
‘It’s not rocket surgery or brain science’ that but got me rolling on the floor 😂
You could have put a switch lite or an old in the "Water proof" case
He could have done a lot of things other than submerge a working switch in water 😂
He could have at least turned the damn thing off first, or left the case empty lol
He could even have used his brain and realize that if there's a zipper it literally cannot be waterproof
To be fair to the oddly angled grips, they do help with putting less strain on the wrists, since that grip makes you hold them in a way your wrists aren't bent
I don't know, it just helped me personally since I have really severe RA with swollen wrists
I’m still in a weird mental deja vu after watching you walk into they retro madness. I usually hit there, the Wild West comics next door and the half priced books all at once 😂
