Chevy Traverse P0496 EVAP system code - purge valve solenoid replacement

  • Опубликовано: 16 июл 2024
  • Video description of replacing a purge valve solenoid on a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse with a 3.6 L V6 engine. This solenoid going bad as a result of after filling the vehicle with fuel, you might get two to three hard starts that will not allow the vehicle to start. Replacing this solenoid is usually a good indication of the problem being alleviated. This is opposed to replacing the Vapor canister purge that is located at the back of the vehicle where you fuel it up. If the vapor canister purge valve on the back of the vehicle is was bad, it would cause the pump at the gas station to be shutting off repeatedly because the vapors from the fuel were not being properly purged while fueling.

I am a single mom of three kids with a double major in literature and philosophy. I know virtually nothing about mechanics. My car was doing this...struggling to get it to turn over every time I fueled up. I followed your instructions and $50 and 10 minutes later, my car starts right up. You saved me a good $200. Bless you!!!

OMG I was about to take my 2015 traverse to the dealership after replacing the gas cap because it barely wanted to start after fueling each time plus other times it would shutdown if I didn’t press on the gas n take off quick. After researching & watching your video and following your steps the check engine light went off immediately. You saved me so much money. Thanks.

Outstanding... worked perfectly on a 2013 Traverse and undoubtedly saved me from a $200-300 dealership visit. Note the part looked and fit exactly the same, but slightly different AC Delco part number. Look up your year on any of the parts store websites before ordering.

Thank you, ur the man. I’ve been racking my brain for a week or so trying to figure out what the hell was going on. I tested the valve, noticed it was faulty and replaced it. Now it starts right up every time. Thank God I can now cancel my appointment with the mechanic…I wasn’t looking forward to paying that hefty bill. You sir are a godsend

My 2013 Chevy Traverse hard started after fueling. It has 64k miles. First noticed, it acted like my foot was on the accelerated starting it, it wasn't. This happened a few times now. Did your paper test, of course didn't need the paper as its a strong suction. Picking up the part in the morning. Piece of cake. The hardest part was squeezing the electrical tab. Gloves helped. Glad all the forums led me to your video. Thanks a bunny bunch. Its Easter Sunday!

This matched step for step what I needed to do. No guessing on what comes next or missing instructions. It was very easy to replace. Great instructional video! I even had the same before and after results on the suction paper test just as he demonstrated, so I know this was what was causing my problem.

Great video! I have a 2012 traverse with a check engine light. I was a bit apprehensive to tackle the engine code fearing it would be a difficult job. After watching this video and going through the paper test my issue was the purge valve solenoid.I went to the auto parts store bought the part and changed it in less than 10 minutes check engine light gone. Thanks for the great video.

Thank you! That did the trick on my 2016 Traverse with 78k miles. Check engine light came on this morning at 0800, had the code read at Advance Auto at 0900 and it read P0496 Evap system flow during non purge stage. Ordered the part on Amazon at 1000. AC Delco part # 12690512 and had the part the same day by 2000 hrs. I did the paper test and it was positive. Had to disconnect the battery to clear the check engine light. It took longer to disconnect the battery than it did to change the solenoid. Thanks again for a great video.

So I have been riding around with the check engine light on for 3 christmas leason well on 5/31/21 the car was struggling with a ruff idle and no get up and go.
I take it to get code pulled and came back with the P0018 P0019 P0018 P0019
I'm in tears because that code is very bad and expensive. I remembered that I bought the perge solenoid back when the check engine light came on. So I watched more RUclips videos and decided it can't hurt to try.
I would also like to add that my solenoid was not sucking air.My husband said no way, I said please try it bla bla bla.
Well here I am just came back from a one mile ride quiet running no stubble.
no shifting ruffle No check engine light.

THANKS! literally the easiest part I've ever replaced on a vehicle in my life.....even easier than wiper blades! BUT, my check engine light is still on. I did the air flow check with a piece of paper and got exact same results before and after replacing the solenoid as in this video......the guy at Napa said the engine needs to go through 6 or 7 cycles before the light goes off though......

Yes, it takes a bit if you don't reset the light with an OBD tool. If you don't have an OBD tool you can just unhook the battery for a bit and that will also reset the light.

thank you very much. My 2015 Colorado had the same issue. For the two years I've had the Colorado I've noticed a rapid ticking from the right side that sounded almost like lifter knock but now I think it was this stupid solenoid valve and it eventually burned out (I haven't heard the ticking lately). I had no idea where to look for this thing until I found your video. Thanks again!

2012 Chevy Traverse - 135K miles - This seems like it solved my problem. I was having this issue for about a month. It would start after I reset the check engine code, by removing the battery. I cheked the old part and it had a strong vacuum, so I knew it was bad. I found my part on Amazon. It literally took me 5 minutes to replace. I had a 1/2 a tank of gas, I went to the gas station to add more gas to see if it would hesitate starting. I drove around for about 30 minutes..no engine light, no rough idle..I had better acceleration and power. I will continue to watch and will let you know.

Alexis Scott you will need to drive it for a while for the SES light to go out. It needs to cycle through the computer to make sure there is no faults. This might take a week. If you know a mechanic or someone with a code reader, you could get the fault codes cleared out after replacing the part.

I don’t know if you still need an answer to this, but for anyone else: there’s apparently a second one of these valves closer to the fuel tank? Could vary depending on which year your Traverse is. If replacing the one in the engine block doesn’t solve the issue, could be the other one
