  • This was a custom-sized table, built for a very specific space in the customers home. And while the design is simple enough, the figured Big Leaf Maple, Bubinga leg highlights, and Sapele drawer sides really set this apart from a standard build.
    15 BF figured maple
    .5 BF Sapele
    .25 BF Bubinga
    Beaded drawer face
    Sliding dovetailed apron
    Pencil taper legs (down to .5”)
    Half-blind drawer sides
    4 coats semi gloss lacquer
    20 hours build time

    Wow. Just beautiful. What an amazing grain that curly maple has. Those tapered legs make this piece look so elegant. What an amazing job you did. 👏👏👏👏👏👏

      Thank you so much! I absolutely love the look of tapered legs vs a turned leg. Just something so nice in it's simplicity.

    I enjoyed your joinery method. A unique alternative to the standard mortise and tenon. Beautiful piece. Cheers, from Chesbrough Cabinetry!

    I love your work and design. Attention to detail is amazing. Have you ever thought about putting leather on the drawer bottoms rather than rubber? I think that would give an extra uptick in “fine furniture” quality of your work.

      Funny you asked - i was thinking about this recently in general . The mat that was used here was customer requested but perhaps leather would be a good replacement 🤔

      @@RPBasilio well, you gotta give the paying customers what they ask for. Not that people look to see what’s lining the bottom of a drawer. I’ve bought a few executive desks in my day that do that and it just struck me as a nice touch and made me think of they paid that much attention to detail then the construction was probably done top notch as well.

      @@RPBasilio by the way. I don’t know if you were EOD in the army but I was a combat engineer in the Marines. I love the booby trap sticker on your table saw. Did you make it or buy it?

      @@rw7532 haha - I was wondering if anyone would ever notice this throughout all my videos. I made this a few years back when I had a vinyl cutter. I’m 47 years old but mentally I’m 10 😂

    Very nice work (that’s English understatement). Lots of detail to go into a piece which essentially succeeds because of its simplicity. Yes, I would have made it differently (perhaps a bubinga pull?) but that’s just different, not better. I hope the recipients put a glass top on it. So easily ruined by water or carelessness.
    I’ve just read it was 20 hours work. I’m very surprised. I certainly would have guessed at nearer 30 plus cure time - at least, that’s where I would have costed it in my old days.

    • @RPBasilio
      @RPBasilio  3 месяца назад

      Thankfully this piece is going to a home where it should be well-cared for. I cringe at the idea of someone putting a water glass on it!! I should also clarify, the 20 hours does not include the finish application or cure time. This is only for the build. Should have been more clear on that in my description . Sorry!

      @theofarmmanager267 3 месяца назад

      @@RPBasilio even so, 20 hours seems rapid to me -and without sacrificing quality. Mind you, I do tend to stand looking at a piece before the next task just to make sure I’m doing things in the order - or even doing the right thing at all
