Budget build #2 | Walnut shop cabinet made entirely of scrap.

- Made 100% from scrap wood cut-offs and remnants. Not a penny was spent on material. Built as a shop cabinet to hold glue bottles 😬
Walnut (scrap)
Pomelle sapele veneer (remnant)
Figured quarter-sawn ash (scrap)

Hand cut dovetails
Sliding dovetails
4 finish coats
I used this project to continue learning the veneer process. This cabinet taught me a hard lesson about glue bleed-through, which I’m thankful for. Shop projects are the best test-beds for this.
Now to load this thing up with filthy bottles of adhesive 🥺

Yeah….agreed. In one shot you can see I threw them over my shoulder. Something I need to be more careful about moving forward
Another beautiful build. I think my favorite thing about your work is the meticulousness of everything. Especially when you’re doing several drawers and cabinet inner frames to support several drawers. Smaller definitely is not less work.
Made me think of the sliding dovetail use. Kev’s Workshop did a video a few days earlier that also did full depth sliding. Not sure when using the dovetail in only the front and the rest is a dado becomes advantageous. Maybe why is production difference and it is personal preference. Give and take either way I think.

@@RPBasilio Yeah. I don’t know how to describe the dovetail first inch with a dado behind joint. On the face it looks like a full sliding dovetail but it is just the front. Frank’s Workbench wall shelf is the most ready example I can think of but it is old. I think there are circumstances between projects that might lean one way or another between. Like any joint.

An over the top glue cabinet made from primo 4/4 walnut? You’re a wild man sar’nt Basilio. Turned out great. Where did you get that artwork on your table saw….awesome? Hoodie strings will make that a reality. Fix that fubar wobble on your table saw. Top sees that he’ll rip you a new one.
lol - I don’t need Top on my ass. I’m already scared to walk on my own grass 😂. And yeah, the draw strings are an issue for sure. I know better than that and even threw them over my shoulder in one scene. But - no excuse. And the stencil on my table saw was something my daughter made on her cricket. I’m a huge Goonies fan 🏴☠️
Love that artwork, she did good. I served as aircraft mech Navy 79-76. My division chief was a by the book hardass. If there was even a hint of a Charlie Foxtrot in the making lives were made miserable.
I learned to embrace the suck quickly.
I really wish I had "scrap" walnut like that ..Looking at your other shop furniture it all appears to be constructed from pretty exotic/expensive wood or veneers. In the UK the price of crap wood is so high that any "nice" wood is totally out of reach

Nice furniture. Nive video. Nice manufacturing process. Which makes it all very, very nice. How did you get around not veneering both sides. You were quite successful in doing it. I always have to veneer both side to stop bowing, cupping.

I am wondering why the doors were initially constructed inside the case? Was that just to get the perfect fit? But then you probably planed them afterwards. Just a little stumped on that step. Great work. It came out beautiful.
Hi Dustin. You are correct. By building them in the case, you automatically correct for any cabinet corners that are not exactly 90 degrees. Once this is done, I scrub the rails and styles and cut to final reveal. Much much easier than building it outside of the box and then trying to fit with perfect reveals.

Beautiful cabinet. Totally unnecessary walnut...love it. One comment...I think the door pulls are wrong, too big and don't pair well with the drawer pulls...just my opinion. And your local! Was in Spring City yesterday.
