- The allotted budget for this build was $250. The goal was to use BASIC materials, BASIC joinery, and a BASIC budget to prove that heirloom quality comes from the builder and not necessarily the materials. Final budget spent was $192.

Love the tool chest I would love one in my garage. I would have kept it just the wood grain instead of paint personally but painting it would be more durable I guess great job love watching you work and build these beauties
@@carolmoore3706 I do plan on building another out of pine and not painting. I primarily painted this one to match an antique version I once saw.
I totally get it I do like it i think for a garage it’s perfect I love the ones you have in your shop the wood you choose the grain it just works.
I am not an expert at woodworking but i would love to give making something like this for myself.
@@carolmoore3706 I actually created build plans for this box if you are interested. If so, and if you’re on Instagram, send me a DM with your email address and I’ll send it over to you. 😁
Awesome I don’t use instagram that much but I’ll go over and follow you I would love the plans to give it a go thanks so much
Fantastic to see a guy actually building something.Real kudos too for the interesting methods of work, pacing & shooting of this video.Well done!
I love this and the colour is fabulous 🇮🇪
Thanks!!
The contrast of colors is so good!
Thanks, man. I almost painted the inside of the drawers but decided against it, thankfully
It was a tasty choice. 🤌🏻

Very beautiful amazing work
Thank you, Jim!
Great build. I’ve wanted to make something similar to organize the tools in the garage. Nice to show how it can be done. How many board feet of material was needed?
Thanks! This took about 40 BF of Poplar (includes waste factor) to build. I actually have full build plans for this I can send you if you’re interested for your build? If so, send me a message on my Instagram (@rpbasilio) with your email address and I’ll send it over to you.
really nice, thanks

Hello from Texas
Howdy!
Does that mean, you did hours of work for $58? Nice job by the way.
No. The spend value was just for materials. The video was made to show this could be built on a budget for one’s self. Thanks
Have you considered having two color tones for breaking the monotony ?
thank you for sharing
I considered this but was trying to stay under budget for the build on this one. Perhaps the next one though as I’d be curious on a two-tone paint job
I haven’t worked with dyes before. Are you rubbing any off after you apply with a foam brush like you do with an oil stain? The dyes seem to not blotch like stains. I may have to try this approach.
With aniline dyes, I don’t do any wipe-off as I want to use a much of the color as possible. And you are correct - they don’t seem to blotch like typical wood stains. I e used the dye a few times and couldn’t be happier with the results!
Too bad you painted it. The naturl wood finish would have looked more classier.
I was wondering the same thing. I am supposing the paint would be more durable, but the natural wood looks great.
Definitely went back and forth on the decision to paint. In the end, I was looking to match an antique case that was done in a similar color/style and it held up pretty well over the years. However, I agree with you that the natural wood could have made for an incredible look, as well.
