You live in germany???
Klasse.
Great video and great build everyone!
Cool, ich wusste gar nicht das man Deutsch als Fremdsprache an amerikanischen Schulen lernen kann. Bist du vielleicht Texaner ? Weil in Texas 30% der Bevölkerung deutsche Wurzeln haben.
Ouh no.. and I'm completely different: I want to get away from Germany, cuz I prefer and love English so much !! ❤Vivian Hyde 😊

Respekt 👏
As a German, I’m always a bit nervous about the clichés and how the world sees us, but Chris and his family represented Germany wonderfully - warm, welcoming, with great ideas and lots of fun! Brilliant episode!
But one (two) of the biggest clichés had to be shown and proven anyway! Oktoberfest and Lederhosen! 😄😄😄
I'm a German too and I totally agree with you!
Germany has so much more to offer apart from Bratwurst, Sauerkraut, Haxen, Hendl, Lederhosen and Oktoberfest. I'm always a bit sad because it seems that we are a bit "reduced" to a kind of Bavarian style. Don't get me wrong, Bavaria is beautiful, but our other 15 states apart from Bavaria have also many beautiful things (people, cities, landscapes, food, festivals, fairs...) to offer. 🙂
Grüße an Chris nach "Aschebersch".
Edit: Händl in Hendl korrigiert. 🙂
@@mikeh.7954 I was a foreigner who came to Germany some 18 yeas ago, dann wurde ich eingedeutscht (Einbürgerung). Then I realized a lot of the things I have heard about Germany before I came here were competely exergarrated and bullshits. I am pround of Germany, its people, language and culture.

Das Schreinerei Schild vom Opa ist super. Schön das du dir das in Erinnerung hältst.
Small Shop 😊 welcome to the reality of German hobby woodworkers. I'm pretty jealous of Chris's shop and tools.
For a hobby, he is pretty loaded with nice line up of tools. Just lacking proper space. Greetings from Canadian cabinet maker
Justified. His shop is a Festool Festival! Very impressive for the space he has.
I'm jealous of the sliding table saw and combo jointer/planer, those are rare in the US. You can get Hammer tools in the US but there's nowhere you can go to look at thembeforehand.
In Hungary I have a similar workshop. Except it’s smaller and have way way cheaper tools. 😂
@@zoltan2728 To be fair, Chris seems to be doing very well. From the looks of his neighborhood, the house, the car, the shop, he must earn a lot of money.

As a munich native I'd say I'm kinda impressed and shocked that you guys managed to destroy 8 Maß even before afternoon 😮😮😂😂😂
That's a LOT for first timers (and seasoned visitors too) and usually ends up in people sleeping in bushes and such. 😬
But I'm glad you had a good time here. Great video. 😎✌️
And this first beer experience would have been even stronger if the beer mugs had been really full and there hadn't been so much foam on the beer.
@@MrJueKa People here will complain if there is not enough foam on the beer so thats a cultural thing. But yeah the glasses should be full up to the filling line.
@@noway2451 I often see in videos about the Oktoberfest that the beer glasses are not always filled correctly.
@@MrJueKa There is a reason why a properly tapped beer needs its "foam-crown".
The foam acts as a protective layer-not just to prevent anything from falling into the beer, but also to keep the carbon dioxide and aroma inside, so it stays fresh for a longer period. This way, after a conversation with friends, it won’t taste like it's three days old.
That being said, Prost. :)
@@ebhaenger8246 I`m from the Sauerland and I know about beer and "foam-crown", but most of the Oktoberfest glasses I`ve seen in videos have to much foam and such beers would never be delivered or accepted in our beer tents.

Great video, (honestly, has to be one of my favorites) and Chris and his wife great hosts -- showing you the true heart of Bavarians! As for the metric...I struggled with it for the first year or so living over here, but now, I'd never go back to ye olde inches. Actually, last time I was back in California doing some cabinet work with my bnrother for my sister, my brother (former army, 11B, red blooded as they come) confiscated my metric 8m tape and let me know that that was the only one he'd be using from now on (so mucher easier to calculated on base-10!!). Anyhoo, thanks again for a great video!!
100%. I am an America and always try to build in METRIC. Especially stairs.
I actually mix 'em... if I'm measuring somethin and it falls to an even imperial measurement rather than an uneven millimetre measurement, I'm goin with the easier dimension....
As a machinist, I've learned to switch seamlessly between both... eating my metric AND my imperial cake !!... 🤗
Great vid... if you weren't boozing it up ya might have actually completed the mission... but then, as an irishman, I am the last person to give ya a hard time, mister ...
😎👍☘️🍻
They are Franconians!
@@iamcurious9541 Even that is debatable... politically yes, Aschaffenburg is Bavarian and Franconian. But when you hear the people speak their dialect, it's clearly a Hessian dialect.
Typically German. Someone comes to do something, you supply water & coffee. Even contractors. For people doing things for free, you feed them and supply beer as well.
During the finger story I 100% thought he kept his fingers in a bag in the freezer and was buried with them until the end 😂

Seeing how much Chris spent on buying good quality tools made me feel SOOOOO much better because I did the same. No more guilt, which is great because now I’ll be able to sleep at last. Thx for a great video as usual. Slainte.
My recent boss is a wise man. He always say ,,I dont have enough money to buy cheap tools,, 😉😊. And he's right. I changed my tool shopping preference from cheap but broken in 1 year to expensive but quality for 10 years at least 😊
"You need good quality tools to make good quality things", doesn't need to be expensive, just good quality. It doesn't apply to everything obviously, but as a general rule of thumb it works for me so far.
Wanting to use proper quality tools is completely justified not really because of build quality, but for safety similar to how a cared for and sharp knife is usually safer than the opposite.
All the Fancy tools don't help you if you don't have good skills and are clever
I love Bavaria. The food the Wheat Beer the Autobahn the Dirndl. And for Woodworking they use the metric system and very expensive German quality tools. Great episode. Brought back a lot of good memories.
Actually the only ones not using metric are the US, Myanmar and Liberia 😉
Strictly speaking Aschaffenburg is not considered Bavaria per se. It's not even considered Franconia, even though it's placed in the Lower Franconia governmental district. The area and it's people are considered Untermainländer (lower Main dwellers) and is considered a variety of south Hessian.
@@scar02faceNa Gratulation, jetzt sind wir geistig bereichert 😂

I’m pretty sure this is the greatest woodworking video in history.
Thanks for bringing back so many fond memories. I had the privilege and pleasure to live in beautiful Bamberg, Germany for 16.5 years. It too is in Bavaria but in Franconia. Of course it was purely coincidental he had to go to Germany just as the festivities kicked in... 🙄😂
@@peterfitzpatrick7032 Sounds like a typical "Why are you here, the work or the beer?" kind of travel. At my work, ANY travel request to Bavaria end of September is highly suspicious.
What a breath of fresh air! I grew up in a town about 30 minutes from Aschaffenburg. This was fun to watch. Made me feel nostalgic. What an awesome host! Nice to see good ol' fashioned German hospitality on display!
Loved this video for 2 reasons. One was all the usual 'Bourbon Moth' banter. The other was on an emotional level.
My maternal grandfather was German and a professional woodworker in KS. and OK. I never knew him as he died around the time of my birth. My mom would recount how, as a little girl, she would help him in the shop with small projects and sweeping up after him. (She would get misty telling these stories.) There are still a few of his pieces held by members of our large extended family.
Though a totally different situation, I still felt some kind of connection. Thank you!
I am literally speachless that you were in my hometown in Germany 😢🫶
Love your videos!!!
The video was recommended to me in me youtube feed. I haven't known your channel until this great piece. I'm living around 90 km away from aschaffenburg in the same county/district (unterfranken), so this feels a little bit more special. Chris and Nicole are awesome and you guys are too. Nice to see foreigners visit and enjoy our country and culture. You have gained a subscriber. Keep that joy, the nice work and good character up.
So cool! I’m an Englishman living in Germany and I’m so pleased you were here AND got to experience Oktoberfest! It looks like you had the best hosts ☺️✌️
Army brat that was born in Augsburg, lived there for the first couple years and ended up be stationed at Grafenwöhr when I was enlisted. Haven't been back in years and now I really want to go. The best part was getting 1 liter of German water, a hot pretzel at the end of a rough week and just sitting back to enjoy the moment. Love the project too. Hopefully Chris will update the Patreon with photos of the finished cabinet.

That was your best ever. And that is saying something since all of the episodes I have ever seen were great. Hands down best RUclips video I have watched in a long time, loved every minute of it.
I’m sold. This is by far the best DIY video channel on woodshops. The only other video I’ve watched by these dudes is the attempt to make a cement planter, which turned out ok, but the planter itself was meh. Wish I had tools like they were using.
Can't sleep. sitting here are 0530 in the UK watching you enjoy German hospitality. I lived in Germany for several years, and like most ANglo-Saxons had no previous idea how dry and funny the German sense of humour is. Of course he was going to take you to get Lederhosen, especially if he had lined up Oktoberfest as well. Eight beers is impressive, as are the young ladies who carry 8 of those Steins at a time when serving tables. Despite the early hour, my mouth was salivating at the memory of the Schnitzels, it is again as I write about them. Btw the build was good too!!
IMHO this episode was one of, if not the best. I really enjoyed the interaction between everyone. And getting a brief glimpse of German culture. Their hosts, Chris and Nicole were very friendly and welcoming to the Bourbon Moth crew. Giving them the red carpet treatment. And the piece of furniture that they built together was very nice. And hopefully Chris will send some photos of the finished piece to Bourbon Moth so we can all see how great it turned out.

The last sentences in the end translated in English:

Seeing that small shop made me a bit nostalgic. When I started over 40 yrs ago I would leave the backs off of larger commissions so I could step through. And for the shoe-store and cothing stores having Foodstands around: The man go outside for a snack and
the wife can shop longer and spend more money, and the man is well fed and won't complain. Thats a marketing trick. And thats why the Home Depots have fancier foods: They need to serve for the wifes as well.
