  • Hi everyone, it's Dutchess! Today I'll be discussing gaming stereotypes. In this video, I'm talking about how non-gamers make a ton of assumptions about gamers and how all of those stereotypes are not true. If you enjoyed it, let me know and be sure to leave a like and subscribe!

As someone who's been ardently playing since 1987, these kinds of stereotypes are thankfully not quite as widely held as they used to be, but certainly, they are still around. The community does have a bit of an image problem, but I feel like it's shifting more and more toward those loud overgrown children types who go shrieking over the littlest things, but still preorder the $200 digital deluxe edition of every major release; you know the type. Like you said, most of us have jobs and are productive members of society with several other interests; I'm that lunatic who's actually completed my entire Steam backlog, but my favorite thing to do is cooking, rather than gaming as one might expect. I remember when all the "Video games make children violent criminals!" thing started, too; hearing Hillary Clinton give a speech about how video games frequently contain numerous acts of cannibalism was nothing short of surreal. I'm still trying to figure that one out; was she talking about Kirby?
And you want to talk about femininity? I'm using a PS4 controller for the first time (my last console before jumping ship to PC was a PS3), and I'm starting to find that my nails are too long; pressing square often finds my thumbnail on that weirdly giant rectancular button in the middle, so I keep bringing up the city map while I'm trying to throw light combos!

Great video! Awesome being featured in the video too! I have to say, most of my friends were made on Xbox, lol. And monster energy is NOT my primary drink, that honor goes to water. HYDRATE

Love your videos! My biggest stereotype I hate is that people who play games are irresponsible and immature. This was so bad growing up, that I felt like i had to hide my hobby, or else I will be ostracized from colleagues at work or seen as somehow less intelligent or cultured. Thankfully I can say that as our generation has grown up and come into power in many organizations and as gaming has become the largest money making entertainment industry on the planet, finally we are treated with respect. I am a Senior engineer at a 100 million dollar a year company and often times meetings will end with my team and I discussing our current favorite games or gaming tech. It has replaced water cooler talk about sports and TV and I am so happy about it!
Granted I work in the tech field, so gamers probably grabitate more to it than elsewhere, but even the HR folk and Finance departments have avid gamers akong them and it feels like a cool club we all belong to rather than something that sets us apart as outsiders.

So wonderful to hear that! You are absolutely right, though. Some gamers are one of the most hardworking people I know. It's no different than any other hobby or media format, tbh. Congrats on advancing so far in your career! It's awesome you're able to talk with your coworkers about video games normally without being afraid of judgement. :) Thanks so much for watching my video, I'm glad you enjoy them. :) It makes my day to hear you say that!

This new widely popular video game: Lethal Company, thrives off of proper communication and teamwork while it being the main medium to scare and be comical in nature with amazing sound design, I'm sure you've seen videos praising it to the high heavens at least while scrolling through the recommended page if any, but as an intersex gamer that looks predominantly female, I too have been faced with someone who believed that women can't be good gamers back in my hich-schools E-Sports type club.
