Tip for getting more armor in Valheim without having to constantly explore more to find swamps--The item you get from the swamp boss does not only work in the mountains to find silver. Equip it in the swamps to find buried iron scrap piles.
@@SpazzyjonesGaming Nope! One of those things that just isn't well known. It takes more work, but you can double the total amount of iron a swamp region provides before it's exhausted. Another tip: Copper bearing ore boulders are usually separated by a relatively thin layer of earth and stone from a very large deposit further down. Once you have the initial boulder done, keep digging down!
The feather cape does have the one drawback of actually slowing you down if you are jumping and want to get away from creatures. But, yeah, I'm still always using it!
It's quite easy to get troll armor before Bronze if you are reasonably adept at kiting. With Eikthyr's forsaken power kiting success can be increased, but there is also a creative way to use it to get trolls for their hides. Most Black forests border a mountain zone. I will run along the border of a mountain zone listening for wolves. When I hear them, I know they spawn close to the Black forest zone. I then go and find a troll and agro him to follow me to the border. I lead him into the mountain zone and listen for the wolf howls. Then I click the forsaken run buff and take him to the wolves. Watch your health, as you likely won't have frost protection yet, but the border is close, so hook up the troll and wolf and head back to the forest. The wolves will switch to the troll if you run around him. If unlucky the troll dispatches the wolf in one blow, but two wolves can decimate a troll (avoid trolls with bats!). Even if the troll survives, it will have lost a lot of health. I have even let the troll return, found another wolf and dragged the troll to him. It's fun, and I can start getting hide armor wearing rags. There are tricks to root armor as well. Abominations will chase you quite far, though they can also stop and return, so be patient. Build four campfires spread out on a grassy meadow that adjoins a swamp. Agro the abomination and kite him through the fires. I find it cuts the time to kill him way down. My latest save I discovered a surtling spawn with the fire jet in a pond of water. This meant that the surtlings would die as soon as they spawned. I then dragged an abomination over to the fire jet, and he was dead in under two minutes with no fight, only kiting in circles. It pays to think out of the box early game! The root helmet is super important for the Bonemass fight, and the root chest is super important in the plains. No more deathsquitos one shotting you with the root chest piece. After the swamp, I mix and match armors now.
You officially have the honor of my longest comment to date! I appreciate you taking the time to put so much thought into your comment. There are so many ways that people have pointed out to me to kinda 'cheat' progress a bit like you have described. I've had a thought of making a video that details all the ways in which you can accelerate your progress in some capacity with a less than traditional method. Thank you for the ideas!
I just dodge. Log or no log in hand makes no difference. Just a knife. Honey and a berry. Armor or no armor. Log troll alternates between attacks either swing from his right, or straight down. No log troll will swing from his right 4 times before doing his over head slam immediately after the 4th swing.( he will also on most occasions start with the overhead slam )
Might be worth noting that the magic helm provides only 20% eitr vs the body and legs that give 40% eitr. If you're itching for a little extra def or you want more movement speed. You can swap out the help with a carapace helm or Fenrir helm. for only minimum mana reg loss. Also, if your going into the mountains and don't wanna make mead. You can potentially spot silver ore from the sides of mountains. After acquiring silver, I prefer to make a lox cape > a wolf cape. As acquiring a wolf trophy can be a pain. You noted the root torso, which is great, but the serpents shield also provides pierce resistance if you wanna go that route instead. It'll allow you to maximize blocking by allowing you to absorb more damage by having higher defense potentially. The resistance from the serpents shield AND the root armor DO stack. It's the only resistance in the game that does. So you could make pierce damage do virtually nothing if you combine the two. Only other thing I'll mention about armor, is if you plan on blocking, it isn't based on the weight of your armor, but rather the damage you take. This means that anything that reduces damage received (such as pierce resistance) can surpass even the heaviest of armors. However, do to heavy armors having higher defense respectfully, they're typically the best choice for blocking and parrying. This also means that on higher difficulties. Blocking and defense become steadily more and more useless, as enemies start dealing such an excess of damage, that even a character fully kitted out can't handle basic enemies in there respective area. (Which imo, should be something that is changed... like granting the player a passive poise increase on higher difficulties) Defense also reduces damage from elemental attacks as well. Be weary tho, DoT effects can stack. So standing in Yagluth's AoE and shaman fireballs, even with max def, will shred you.
Thank you for your thoughtful and informative response! I appreciate these so much as I find I always learn something from experienced Valheim players like yourself. Really cool point about the stacking pierce resistance with the serpent shield and harnesk. I didn't know that. The thing that keeps me from using that shield is the -15% movement speed. I can't stand being bogged down. That said, to your point about the Eitr Helm, you can easily swap that out for more something like the Fenris hood for a little speed boost. I feel your comment on DOT effects. I've found they are often how I die when I'm not paying enough attention. Anyhow, thanks for the comment! Hope to hear from you again in the future!
The Lox cape also requires less silver overall, only needing teo total for the initial build, and just more lox pelt for the upgrades. Much less tedious mining and smelting involved.
The Eitr-weave armor should on top of the faster Eitr regeneration add 100 base Eitr - so you are not completely useless anymore when your food buffs are running out. As food stats are running out so fast this tweak would make playing a mage a less tedious experience.
I agree with you. I find the Eitr-Weave gear a little underwhelming for that exact reason. That said, magic could be too powerful if it did add additional Eitr
i find idea grait but not 100 like 40 extra is enough too make it worth just so food insent always needed to be toped of too be able to cast reasonably 100 is like not even needing the skill anymore
This video needs an updated version now with the ashlands biome. Both the root harnesk and the feather cape are weak vs. fire. I personally like to combine the mage and the carapace armor. You cant spam as much elemental magic with it and need to be more moderate, but you can be more dynamic and have a hybrid playstyle. When you get overwhelmed or run out of eitr, you can use blood magic for a bubble shield and then switch to melee weapons and shield to tank some hits and minimize the amout of enemies while your eitr recovers. Also use eitr potions with this setup. In critical situations you can pop the queens ability giving you faster eitr recovery. Give it a try :)
I like swapping to the Askvin cape when I'm overwhelmed in Ashlands, it gives a very nice bonus speed when you run with the wind, so I can flee like a coward and fight another day.
I've never liked how the game makes you go back into the swamps to get yet another truckload of iron every other biome. With padded armor for example, why didn't they just make you farm the hell out of black iron in the Plains? It feels regressive having to go back into swamp crypts, when you thanked every Norse god under the sun once you were done with it the first time around.
it is weird isn't it. Its one of the only occurrences where you're super forced to return to a previously conquered biome. I like the idea of having to return to previous biome but maybe this is just tooo much haha
I enjoyed the video. I'd have to disagree on the root harnesk, but I tend to catch on fire a lot more often than I'm straight up hit with piercing. I like that you're pointing out that mixing and matching armour sets is the best approach to find the right fit.
No problem if you disagree. I like hearing different opinions. It helps me think about things differently. Yeah, a big downside is the fire damage, I do agree. I am glad you enjoyed the video :)
I rarely catch on fire...one of my server players, however, sprinted every time after sleeping because he's an impatient little shit and ran straight into the fireplace. I had to install a babygate.
Indeed. The advent of iron in the iron age and later classical era was not because of it being better quality, but rather its availability. Bronze requires tin, something that had to be acquired through trade in most regions such as Cornwall, to the point that the metal received an almost legendary status. Iron was also more readily workable. Not until alloying in the later middle ages did the strength or iron (At this point referred to as steel) outperform bronze in Europe. The Vikings also did use a good chunk of charcoal in their ironworking as well, likely as a result of Vikings going as far as the Byzantine Empire for trade and coming across Damascus steel, though do not quote me on that one. Some exceptions did exist - the Romans fancied a particular iron ore mined north of the Alps in today's Austria and areas around there due to its surprising strength. From what I recall when reading up on it, this iron ore is thought to have contained larger trace amounts of manganese, a common alloying component in modern steel to improve its strength. The Romans did not know this of course - we only know this today because of geological analysis.
This is how i progress ---) no armor + bow with fire arrows (kill 1st boss) --) craft copper axe and pick --) make stagbreaker --- ) make bronze and make some mead (and kill trolls meanwhile) --) go to swamp and get some mats for frost resistance mead --) go to mountains and hit stuff with stagbreaker till you find silver (and kill wolfs) --) kill tree boss for a key ---) go into swamp and get just enogh iron to make a pick ---) mine the silver and make armor --) look for merchant and buy mats for frostner --) upgrade --) get some more iron and make a better boat ---) go to mistlands and look for dungeons that are near water (also bait bugs into dwermer buildings so you get that stone) --) place portal and farm some pigs and slimes --) make some poision trow items and enter the dungeon -- ) use bombs on wooden doors so you dont break them and chip health of enemy bugs with stagbreaker (you can also upgrade to iron one) --) once you have the cores bait the big bugs into a ygassil trees so they can make you some wood --) make black forge and now you can craft Krom and Arbalest --) rest of bosses (i prefer to keep dragon killed on same day as slime so i dont end up with drake raids that kill animals)
Fun fact: for the last armor combo, the "Resistant VS Fire" of the Fenris Leggings will nullify the "Weak VS Fire" of the Root Harnesk. Your character always takes the highest damage resistance of each type.
Armor in this game is cool and honestly, it feels rewarding when you get a full set of the new tier armor but I feel it needs more variety. They should also buff the troll armor, its not easy to kill enough trolls to max it and you'd be better off skipping it, the bonus is negligible and fun fact: you can trap a troll by digging a hole underneath it (you might not survive) and then just stay out of its sight and sneak around. I got like 20 levels of sneak in 15 minutes?
Ooh smart idea. I've been thinking of making a video about how to level up skills quickly. i'd include that trick! I agree the troll armor is skippable. Its too bad too because I like the look of it
Bronze armor is such a disappointment in my opinion: you venture out in the black forest to get materials for it - you're bound to stumble on a troll or two. Not only you're wasting precious bronze on useless gear pieces, instead of crafting tools with it, it also has movement penalty along with having just 6 more armor compared to troll hide set (fully upgraded), and you also get +15 levels of sneak with the latter ...like, what the hell? What's the point of it?
im sticking with my carapace armor. parrying is more effective than rolling and takes less stamina at the end of the day because of the extra damage plus stun time on the creature. with that in mind, im not running around the mistlands or even the plains with some inferior armor and getting absolutely rolled by 1 or 2 starred mobs or even lox when mistiming a parry or not seeing an attack. carapace > everything (so far, eitr and ashlands obviously not included)
tip for easy kills against the abominations is last I knew the surtling spawners would kill them very quickly just from them walking over it so kite them over the flame and it will at minimum take a chunk off its health fast makes farming root easy if you can pull this off especially if you can just block the abominations attacks you can stand so that it stays in contact with the spawner flame and kill it easily
Agreed. I spent a long time upgrading to padded armor and was annoyed at how slow it made me so I went straight back to my trusty root armor. I will try mixing and matching pieces in the future.
If you're playing with other people you don't need armor until the Mountains probably. Weapons/shield and food will carry you until the Mountains. In Swamp you can avoid and parry/block everything until Bonemass. Bonemass gives that DR Eikthyr and that thing is busted if you know what you're doing, it's based on armor, but you don't need that much, you can stay in light armor and use the Bonemass power and be fine. Mountains introduces straight up tanks and very fast, numerous enemies. The Drakes do frost damage and you really don't wanna be blocking their attacks early on, they can easily get you locked down and have you killed by something else. Mountains will drain your stamina faster than you can blink your eyeballs. I would up my armor here until I get the Silver weapons. If your stealth is really good, you can stealth around the mountain tops, but if you mine anything it will draw monsters.
I really enjoyed the video and I love to see armor customization awareness, but, for future videos, improve the quality of the mic asap, it will make the videos twice as enjoyable. I am really not hating and I appreicated the video, just giving my opinion on what would help your channel lots in the future. Keep it up!
Appreciate the input! Is there anything specific about the audio that you find off putting? I don't know how easy that might be to answer but any more specifics you can provide is helpful! Thanks again 👍
@@SpazzyjonesGaming I agree with the comment about the microphone audio - might want to look at how it's being recorded, as it's only coming out of the Right ear clearly and VERY quietly out of the Left. I thought my headphones had broken for a moment until I double checked on another video. :)
I play as a magic user but swap out the Eitr hood for the Fenris hood, sacrificing 20% Eiter regen for the extra 3% speed. It also looks way cool (my brother saw it and said I look like the main boss of the game lol)
Sadly, with the Ashlands update, the feather cape now has a major drawback: It makes you "very weak" against fire. 🔥 And, well... There's a lot of that in Ashlands.
@@SpazzyjonesGaming I used fire resist pots when I got there; They seemed to negate the extra damage but I got tired of making them all the time so I stopped using the Feather Cape there. :(
9:20 me and my brother through of this and we where on “HARD” mode when tried it, we made many tests in PVP, Weak enemies, Decent enemies “Plains” and finally tried it on the Mist Its not worth it, it doesn’t block off that much damage, infact its weak and inconsistent, and with the Seekers also doing some blunt damage that being they’re air attack and especially the Soldier Seeker it doing MOSTLY BLUNT Damage Reason why this doesn’t work well is the Chest piece has very little armor that the resistance itself doesn’t negate that much damage anymore, and the fact that there are other damage types you are opening yourself to when equipping it.
I dont like your third option because it provides the same amount of armor as the Fenris set with 8 less movement. Plus you do not want to encounter a Gjall in the harnesk. I avoid a one-fits-all approach and customize my loadout for the mission. Sometimes I like full Fenris and Eikthyr with all stamina foods to forage for mushrooms or hunt hogs. Sometimes I go all Eitr weave to hunt hares with the Staff of Embers and accompany with Queen power. Sometimes a job requires full carapace and Bonemass. I do think its important to pair your power with your armor. Good video though!
Fenris and feather cap makes death box runs a game changer, Also the magic robes disappointed me that they did not offer a bit of mana reserve and you can't choose their colors
Would be cool if they added iron mines run by the fucklings in the plains they could add a mine overseer as a challenging miniboss in each mine. With iron veins throughout the mine, mining summons the overseer with a timer of when hell show up to kill your mid ass.
I play valheim like a sociopath, the way i play leaves me incapable of playing alone, as i have so much gear on my person that i simply cant carry any drops, wood etc I was going to comment just what i have above, but i feel like itd be a lot more fun to walk you through what i carry the general idea is to become a literal raid boss and exploit the fact that eitr is essentially a second stamina system for armor i carry a feather cape, a full set of fenris armor, a root mark/chestplate and the eitr weave robes, i try not to use teleporters too much so i find myself in the swamps a lot, hence the root pieces, i will typically be running around with the fenris hood, legs and eitr weave robes on, because my characters name is a shadow wizard money gang reference so i want to look like a shadow wizard for weapons i will carry the fire and frost staffs, i usually use the frost staff to slow things down but it melts creatures weak to frost making it unnecessary to carry a frostner (even though i still do, its too good not to) and the fire staff is very strong against things weak to fire, like, very strong, something about hailing fire on your enemies even when theyre not weak to it feels powerful, and for that reason i also carry bile bombs, though if im honest theyre more of a novelty to pull out when im showing someone my playstyle i use the draugr fang as a bow and run poison arrows (i made an ungodly amount of them this one time, ive been using poison arrows for like 50 hours of gameplay please help me) for small melees i have the frostner and the mistwalker, but i also have the fenris claw - fist weapon thingies, i did some testing and full fenris with those is still stronger than skol and hati I have a himmenwaffle or whatever its called, that one lightning atgeir, atgeirs are very good and ive always had one on me from as far back as the black forest, i tend to only use its mouse3 ability i have the demolisher because fuck you and everything around you, jokes aside these things are insane, ive had hammers since the plains biome and never went anywhere without one, doing the hildrs request mission where you go into a crypt was so easy, i lured the boss to a door, closed the door and just pummelled the ground until it died, they stagger most enemies too which is invaluable purely for style points i have the crystal battleaxe, i could substitute krom but theres something wizardy about a crystal battleaxe, even the animations, but the mouse3 ability is why i have it, it strikes alarmingly fast, like seriously if you have one or can craft one, go and make one, eat some stamina food and just, marvel at how fast the mouse3 can be spammed, staggering an enemy and slamming them with the mouse3 of the crystal battleaxe is one of the fastest time to kills ive seen from a melee weapon (sidenote i just went to check a clip to see what else i had, turns out i also carry krom and couldnt part ways with it, but honestly i dont use it. if you want to accommodate krom you have to be good at dodging, parrying, have full stamina food and full fenris armor, its a lot of investment just to play the big sword, but i do it sometimes) for food i always have at least two stamina foods, mushroom omelette and salad, i have a lot of yggdrasil porridge so thats what i use as my eitr food currently, but im aware seeker aspic is better so im making a bunch of it soon i have a wisp though i dont always carry it, and a belt though i dont always carry it i have poison resists, frost resists, stamina and health potions, but finally what makes this build so busted in my opinion the staff of protection and the dead raiser, i have both of these maxed, so i can summon 3 dead, but its really the protection staff that makes them strong looking at this still of my inventory, i could just about squeeze an arbelist in there (make no mistake its a crazy strong weapon if your bow skill isnt high and it drains your stamina too much i hope you found some enjoyment in this read and maybe try out a similar crazy raid boss playstyle because of it, its genuinely very refreshing and had me trying out all the weapons i never crafted
What a write up! I Can see why you need other players with you to help carry equipment. It sounds like you carry with you every weapon in the game! I really appreciated your point about Eitr serving as a secondary stamina system. I totally agree. You can unload all your eitr with a staff and then quickly swap to a melee weapon and use your stamina and then swap back. Appreciate having diehard Valheim fans like yourself here. You are always welcome!

@@SpazzyjonesGaming i love carrying a weapon for just about every scenario, i find its really fun switching in and out of different playstyles, it helped in a time where the game got a little repetitive for me because i was only using a sword and shield the mage weapons are unfortunately overlooked, but the rate at which the frost staff can kill things, especially in mistlands is absurd, the frost staff was indispensable when i took on the queen. being able to run away, turn and fight made the entire fight a lot more managable solo too valheim is up there as one of my favourite games ever, i just recently watched the third devlog for the ashlands and i couldnt be more excited, especially knowing its coming some time soon
9:32 lol, agreed, Fenris is just so good. I'm a bit of a wimp, so I like to swap out the hood for the drake/padded/carapace hat to maximize armour for only 3% less move speed
Awesome! I'd probably rock the Bronze armor if I were you or the Troll armor if you want to be more mobile. But once you get the root armor, you should definitely wear the root harnesk chest piece. And of course the iron armor will be an upgrade to the bronze once you obtain iron@@Puskara_Waterflower
Ive been trying to run the fenris set but im just so squishy. Fine with a few enemies at once but if there is ever a lag spike, an unforseen mob joining the fight i just get my but kicked. Also have to maximize food for most encounters after mountains where with heavy armor I can get away with cheeper foods with most fights
Yeah I get that for sure..you take a lot more risk with fenris especially as you get into later biomes. Plus yeah when you have lag it can be super frustrating and unfair
When you're recommended a video that goes over information that everyone already has and they don't even have windows activated or control hints disabled to boot.
I have yet to find any case in the game where movement speed has any affect on my ability to complete my tasks in a timely manner, other than when you have a weapon and tower shield equipped and out. Other than that, I've never found a need for "faster" armor.
That's okay. Everyone has their own preferences. I've personally really enjoyed the speed from fenris but in the grand scheme of things, it's not a huge difference
HEY SPAZZY GAMES! can you check if the they change the wolf damage type? it seems that with the recent update they change the wolf dmg from pierce to slash.Maybe its just me who is gaslighting hard but i can swear that those wolf were dealing piercing dmg which is why root chest was my goat for the mounts.Have a nice summer Spazzy!
No worries as far as I understand wolves have always done slash damage so that's nothing new. If it was once Pierce if was quite a while ago. Common misconception that they do pierce but it is definitely slash
The mage set except the pants. They are heavy armor. This way I can use 2 eitr food and one stamina food to get a great mix. I am able to withstand a few hits, can spell casts and regenerate eitr while dodging the enemies. Tried full eitr, but this way I am just to vulnerable in closed areas, like dungeons or mistlands
could you not flip it so the legs and chest are Eitr weave with a carapace helmet? that should give you the same armor value and Eitr regen, but not give you the -5% move speed from heavy armor since helmets don't reduce speed.
Don't even bother with Rags early on - a waste of resources. Just run around in the nude and focus on getting Leather. You'll be fine, as It is very hard to die in the Meadows. You could even skip Leather and go for the Bronze/Troll gear from Black Forest if you're quick on your feet.
I still think Fenrings should drop fenris fur and claws. Maybe even the cultists and ulvs too. Out of all three, only the cultists have a unique drop. Speaking of Mountain mobs, the Stone Golems should drop silver ore. They literally have visible silver veins running through them.
@@SpazzyjonesGaming I found a mod called Drop That by ASharpPen but unfortunately, it's not a simple mod to use and I can't figure it out. From what I understand, it can be used to edit what mobs drop, but I must be doing something wrong because it's not working for me. Can't find any tutorials either.
fenris set+feather cape+berzerkr axes= god mode in the meadows and black forest biomes lol without using any cheats you could run this gear set and have no fear of anything I even cranked it up to max combat difficulty what helped even more but was op for the biomes too was the lightning upgrade on the axes made cleaning out loot from those biomes fun and fast
the food and pots really didn't matter much due to nothing even being able to hit me hard enough to worry and by the time you have the gear you should have food and pots to at least match all I know is I felt like a true badass as I ran around and faced trolls head on and would parry and take care of them in a flash
For fighting Moder would you suggest the full root set with the wolf cape for the +15 bow skill or just the full fenris set for the extra defence and movement speed?
I definitely prefer being fast! The Root armor really excels when you expect to face a lot of pierce damage. I recommend using it (especially the chest plate) in the plains@@aminahwazi5389
@@aminahwazi5389 I'm sorta coming to that point too, and was thinking of just using the wolf armor cause i am horrendous at staying out of being hit lol. but first i gotta set up a proper base, then find 3 eggs, and find where Moder is hiding in the world.
new world, new character, default hardmode settings with map and portals enabled. how quickly can you defeat the main bosses wearing only the starter tunic@@SpazzyjonesGaming
Thanks for the vid mate! Just got into the Swamps for the 2nd time since I started playing, i'm eager to wreck the shit out of mobs and discover those sweet armors combination 😊 👍
I haven't played in a while (Mistlands had only just dropped and they bugs weren't nerfed yet) but you left out the Drake Helm. Also left out how helmets don't reduce movement speed, so they're ideal first piece upgrades. (Unless either of these changed in updates, like how much better the food mechanics were 😢)
You're not the first person so say i missed the drake helmet and I'm a bit confused. Its included in my table at 06:06, so I'm not sure what folks mean when they say I missed it. Your other point about helmets not impacting movement speed I should have highlighted more so agreed, point taken. How were the food mechanics better before? I've played since launch but I don't remember a huge change to these mechanics
@@SpazzyjonesGaming A chart your throw on screen for 3 seconds, especially when a lot of folks are watching on mobile, is not going to grab anyone's attention. :P As for the food, everything now is just bland, straight upgrades to one another. The original system was more nuanced. My favorite food as an example was honey; it was always in easy supply, gave +5 hp per tick, and was digested in 300s. It was my go-to for healing back up after a good fight. After it was changed, regen was slow on everything, everything took longer to digest, and most importantly, now everyone was eating the same foods. It made it a boring mechanic.
so do you think for the mistlands(and just every biome in general that has some level of difficulty)that it would be a better idea to use the root harnesk instead of full carapace? I still feel like there are a lot of things that do other types of damage and you could just use the bone mass power. Is it worth it to have 114 armor vs 94 but without pierce resist? What do you think?
Root Harnesk is only worth it if the enemies you're fighting do pierce damage. In the mistlands there is a lot of pierce damage so i think its worth it. The mountains on the other hand? Not so much. Its definitely not a once size fits all, very situational. You also have to keep in mind that the Root Harnesk is weak to fire too!
@@SpazzyjonesGaming thanks for the reply! I’m about to fight yagluth and eventually journey into the mistlands, so I will definitely take your advice into account!
8:56 EDIT YOU ARE DOING ARMOR FINE, JUST GRAB THE ROOT CHEST AT SOME POINT. dude didnt even mention carapace helm/legs with fenris chest to offset the mvmt and have great defense.
@@SpazzyjonesGaming I do like that combo. Tho star*seekers, soldiers and anything Ashlandian also like me wearing that combo. good to have fire resist potions on hand too since the fenris full combo isnt in effect! fun vid man, gj on it!
There is really not much to talk about. There is heavy armour which slows you down and light armour which doesnt slow you down as much or even makes you move faster. Thats it. Set bonuses are most of the time irrelevant anyway
Im glad you enjoyed it! Funny you mention that, I actually recorded one on shields this week! It's scheduled to come out on March 1st so stay tuned for that!
No not at all. Wearing the highest armor rated armor makes complete sense. I am just offering some alternative perspectives to consider is all. You do you!
Two reasons not to do it: 1) Fighting and getting hit is like 20% of your gameplay time. While 90% time is running around. So more movespeed saves your time. 2) Moving quicker helps getting hit less by better positioning, avoiding being flanked and evasion.
Wait a second ... you got weakness against fire from the root harness, but resistance to it from fenris boots. So do enemies inflict normal fire dmg against me or is the immunity stronger than the weakness?
You raise a very good question. I actually am not sure. My guess is they would cancel it out and you would be neither weak nor strong to fire damage but I would have to test this. Thanks for raising this point
@@SpazzyjonesGaming @benjaminbily1856 According to the Wiki, Resistances override Weaknesses in the order of "Very Resistant > Resistant > Immunity > Very Weak > Weak > Normal", so the Fenris Boots should still give you resistance over the Root Harnesk weakness, similarly being Wet would upgrade your weakness to resistance as well when wearing Root Armor
Great video once again! I have a question, do you know what happens to the world seed in valheim when ashlands comes? Dose it mess it up somehow? Do i need to start over the game?
as stated previously, objects and content will update on unexplored spaces but not to those that have been explored before. Which isn't recommended, same with the deep north as well which will be much later.
The folks here have already pretty much given you your answer. The only thing I'll add is that the devs do recommend you start a new server. That said, my buddies and I are avoiding exploring the north and south of the map on the hope that we can continue our server as those updates come online
There is really not much that can match fenris armour. Movement speed is superiour to pretty much everything, unless maybe when you play on highest difficulty level and if you want to cast .
The point of the video is to provide full coverage of all the armor in the game plus encourage people to mix and match different pieces of armor rather than stick with only complete sets as most people would default into doing. Its just a different angle on the standard overview of armor is all
It may be a minor video editing mistake. For demonstation purposes, one can enable the "no cost" admin cheat which allows the player to access every buildable instantly, as well as any craftable from their inventory, and craft and upgrade them anywhere with no material cost.
@SpazzyjonesGaming its like one of those dead languages. But basically in runic languages one chractee would represent multiple sounds or like each was a syllable. They didnt do 100% because things like bronze/blueberries or carrot seed dont seem to follow this and should probably be spelled different too. Seems like they only went that way for the proper name like Eikthyr
Yeah it is. its something I have to improve. For instance, you'll probably notice it louder in your right ear and you'll get popping/cracking ocassionally. I believe I've solved the balance issue so future videos won't have that problem. The popping/cracking is harder for me to work out but I am very focused on minimizing it. All that said, thanks for pointing it out. I don't have a good 'ear' for this stuff so it helps when people flag things I otherwise don't notice.
So I think this is an eastern Canadian thing. When I have travelled West (just in Canada). I have been told I sound like a pirate with how I pronounce R's 🤣. It sounds completely normal in my ears haha
Well, I'm personally not really comfortable using a two or even three biomes old armor sets and I find combining the different pieces dumb (you look like a clown). Valheim would definitely benefit from having more options. The heavy armors progress straightforwardly but the light armors are currently very weird. They barely increase your armor and buff random things you don't want. Why would I want Eitr-Weave if I'm not a mage?
Good points. Combining different armor sets look like trash! And yeah, you really give up a lot by not having heavy armor. The game could do with better variety. Maybe that can come in the Ashlands update
I hear that. Maybe they can do something with the shields like when you craft them you can pick from a few different options. It would be nice to have some more variety

Tip for getting more armor in Valheim without having to constantly explore more to find swamps--The item you get from the swamp boss does not only work in the mountains to find silver. Equip it in the swamps to find buried iron scrap piles.
Woah really? I though Iron was only in crypts !

Not really no
It's quite easy to get troll armor before Bronze if you are reasonably adept at kiting.
I use fire arrows
I respect it@@Lavender2005
I just dodge. Log or no log in hand makes no difference. Just a knife. Honey and a berry. Armor or no armor. Log troll alternates between attacks either swing from his right, or straight down. No log troll will swing from his right 4 times before doing his over head slam immediately after the 4th swing.( he will also on most occasions start with the overhead slam )
Level 3 bronze buckler + parry bonus. If you're blocking skill is 0, it's still doable.
(Which imo, should be something that is changed... like granting the player a passive poise increase on higher difficulties)
Defense also reduces damage from elemental attacks as well.
Maybe they will add something with ashlands
i find idea grait but not 100 like 40 extra is enough too make it worth just so food insent always needed to be toped of too be able to cast reasonably 100 is like not even needing the skill anymore
100 Eitr would be WAY too much. Maybe like 30-50 at max.
Would probably be too strong I agree@@haerfgvbag7050
Give it a try :)
oh yeah. it might just be coming!!
magic is OP in the game. Personally, I just go all in on mage armor, eitr food and rely on the protection bubble
I like swapping to the Askvin cape when I'm overwhelmed in Ashlands, it gives a very nice bonus speed when you run with the wind, so I can flee like a coward and fight another day.
I love the asksvin cape too!
Sir I am a man of class and dignity, I refuse to mix armor sets.
I respect it haha
I've never liked how the game makes you go back into the swamps to get yet another truckload of iron every other biome. With padded armor for example, why didn't they just make you farm the hell out of black iron in the Plains? It feels regressive having to go back into swamp crypts, when you thanked every Norse god under the sun once you were done with it the first time around.
it is weird isn't it. Its one of the only occurrences where you're super forced to return to a previously conquered biome. I like the idea of having to return to previous biome but maybe this is just tooo much haha
Every biome should have a purpose at all times, nothing wrong with that. You don't want the world to shrink as you progress

It's unfortunately that in real life, bronze is actually considered a higher quality metal than iron.
is it really? I feel like I never actually knew that
Enjoyed this video. Good info laid out without any extra fluff. Liked and subbed.
Glad you enjoyed it. That's the goal! All value without fluff. Thanks for the sub!
Carapace helm and chest with fenris leggings combo with skoll and hati is lethal. You still get plenty of armor with noticeable speed boost / movement
I dig it. I have to try the skoll and hati. Ive never used daggers much and folks seem to love them
in that case I would replace helmet with eitr helmet because with skoll and hati you need a bubble.

Good summary. I've actually never used bombs if you can believe that
I prefer fenris chest piece with eitr regen pants and hood with feather cape. +60% eitr regen with some added speed. Perfect combo for hardcore
Totally fair. I'm not much of a spellcaster myself but I can see why you would go that route!
Fun fact: for the last armor combo, the "Resistant VS Fire" of the Fenris Leggings will nullify the "Weak VS Fire" of the Root Harnesk. Your character always takes the highest damage resistance of each type.
correct! im glad it works this way
Armor in this game is cool and honestly, it feels rewarding when you get a full set of the new tier armor but I feel it needs more variety.
Its too bad too because I like the look of it
Wait I'm not supposed to just sneak through the whole game only using troll armor?

Bronze armor is such a disappointment in my opinion: you venture out in the black forest to get materials for it - you're bound to stumble on a troll or two. Not only you're wasting precious bronze on useless gear pieces, instead of crafting tools with it, it also has movement penalty along with having just 6 more armor compared to troll hide set (fully upgraded), and you also get +15 levels of sneak with the latter ...like, what the hell? What's the point of it?
Very fair point. Many people skip bronze armor altogether and just rock troll. I'm in that camp as well
im sticking with my carapace armor.
parrying is more effective than rolling and takes less stamina at the end of the day because of the extra damage plus stun time on the creature.
with that in mind, im not running around the mistlands or even the plains with some inferior armor and getting absolutely rolled by 1 or 2 starred mobs or even lox when mistiming a parry or not seeing an attack.
carapace > everything (so far, eitr and ashlands obviously not included)
thats fair. Nothing wrong with going with max armor
tip for easy kills against the abominations is last I knew the surtling spawners would kill them very quickly just from them walking over it so kite them over the flame and it will at minimum take a chunk off its health fast makes farming root easy if you can pull this off especially if you can just block the abominations attacks you can stand so that it stays in contact with the spawner flame and kill it easily

You've got balls of steel not wearing armor until the Mountains !
I am personally rocking the carapace armor and leggins + Fenris hood so am not that slow, with feather cape it is really nice fashion souls combo.

Sadly, with the Ashlands update, the feather cape now has a major drawback: It makes you "very weak" against fire. 🔥
And, well... There's a lot of that in Ashlands.
very true. I think it will be manageable though hopefully. Im sure people will still be using it
@@SpazzyjonesGaming I used fire resist pots when I got there; They seemed to negate the extra damage but I got tired of making them all the time so I stopped using the Feather Cape there. :(
9:20 me and my brother through of this and we where on “HARD” mode when tried it, we made many tests in PVP, Weak enemies, Decent enemies “Plains” and finally tried it on the Mist
Its not worth it, it doesn’t block off that much damage, infact its weak and inconsistent, and with the Seekers also doing some blunt damage that being they’re air attack and especially the Soldier Seeker it doing MOSTLY BLUNT Damage
Reason why this doesn’t work well is the Chest piece has very little armor that the resistance itself doesn’t negate that much damage anymore, and the fact that there are other damage types you are opening yourself to when equipping it.
yeah thats fair. unless the damage is pierce the carapace chest is objectively better
To each their own! I can appreciate your opinion and you've made some valid points!
Yep, that's the best way to do it!
Fenris and feather cap makes death box runs a game changer,
Also the magic robes disappointed me that they did not offer a bit of mana reserve and you can't choose their colors
Fenris gear is s-tier! thats fair criticism of the mage gear
Would be cool if they added iron mines run by the fucklings in the plains they could add a mine overseer as a challenging miniboss in each mine. With iron veins throughout the mine, mining summons the overseer with a timer of when hell show up to kill your mid ass.
That is a very cool idea. I think the game could do with another way to get iron for sure. Having to grind through the swamp gets old!
I play valheim like a sociopath, the way i play leaves me incapable of playing alone, as i have so much gear on my person that i simply cant carry any drops, wood etc
I was going to comment just what i have above, but i feel like itd be a lot more fun to walk you through what i carry
the general idea is to become a literal raid boss and exploit the fact that eitr is essentially a second stamina system
for armor i carry a feather cape, a full set of fenris armor, a root mark/chestplate and the eitr weave robes, i try not to use teleporters too much so i find myself in the swamps a lot, hence the root pieces, i will typically be running around with the fenris hood, legs and eitr weave robes on, because my characters name is a shadow wizard money gang reference so i want to look like a shadow wizard
for weapons i will carry the fire and frost staffs, i usually use the frost staff to slow things down but it melts creatures weak to frost making it unnecessary to carry a frostner (even though i still do, its too good not to) and the fire staff is very strong against things weak to fire, like, very strong, something about hailing fire on your enemies even when theyre not weak to it feels powerful, and for that reason i also carry bile bombs, though if im honest theyre more of a novelty to pull out when im showing someone my playstyle
i use the draugr fang as a bow and run poison arrows (i made an ungodly amount of them this one time, ive been using poison arrows for like 50 hours of gameplay please help me)
for small melees i have the frostner and the mistwalker, but i also have the fenris claw - fist weapon thingies, i did some testing and full fenris with those is still stronger than skol and hati
I have a himmenwaffle or whatever its called, that one lightning atgeir, atgeirs are very good and ive always had one on me from as far back as the black forest, i tend to only use its mouse3 ability
i have the demolisher because fuck you and everything around you, jokes aside these things are insane, ive had hammers since the plains biome and never went anywhere without one, doing the hildrs request mission where you go into a crypt was so easy, i lured the boss to a door, closed the door and just pummelled the ground until it died, they stagger most enemies too which is invaluable
purely for style points i have the crystal battleaxe, i could substitute krom but theres something wizardy about a crystal battleaxe, even the animations, but the mouse3 ability is why i have it, it strikes alarmingly fast, like seriously if you have one or can craft one, go and make one, eat some stamina food and just, marvel at how fast the mouse3 can be spammed, staggering an enemy and slamming them with the mouse3 of the crystal battleaxe is one of the fastest time to kills ive seen from a melee weapon
(sidenote i just went to check a clip to see what else i had, turns out i also carry krom and couldnt part ways with it, but honestly i dont use it. if you want to accommodate krom you have to be good at dodging, parrying, have full stamina food and full fenris armor, its a lot of investment just to play the big sword, but i do it sometimes)
for food i always have at least two stamina foods, mushroom omelette and salad, i have a lot of yggdrasil porridge so thats what i use as my eitr food currently, but im aware seeker aspic is better so im making a bunch of it soon
i have a wisp though i dont always carry it, and a belt though i dont always carry it
i have poison resists, frost resists, stamina and health potions, but finally what makes this build so busted in my opinion
the staff of protection and the dead raiser, i have both of these maxed, so i can summon 3 dead, but its really the protection staff that makes them strong
looking at this still of my inventory, i could just about squeeze an arbelist in there (make no mistake its a crazy strong weapon if your bow skill isnt high and it drains your stamina too much
i hope you found some enjoyment in this read and maybe try out a similar crazy raid boss playstyle because of it, its genuinely very refreshing and had me trying out all the weapons i never crafted

I agree. You're just too weak with full eitr I do love that eitr generation though 🤤
could you not flip it so the legs and chest are Eitr weave with a carapace helmet? that should give you the same armor value and Eitr regen, but not give you the -5% move speed from heavy armor since helmets don't reduce speed.
That is smart. Helmets don't ding your movement speed so you're right. That does sound better@@burnin8able
@@SpazzyjonesGaming end of the day it'd only be a 3% increase but still, number bigger is more gooder.

so true
Don't even bother with Rags early on - a waste of resources. Just run around in the nude and focus on getting Leather. You'll be fine, as It is very hard to die in the Meadows. You could even skip Leather and go for the Bronze/Troll gear from Black Forest if you're quick on your feet.
totally agree!
This video got me more stoked to play Valheim than any hype video I’ve seen so far
LETS GO! Such a timeless game. Plus, we have the Ashlands biome coming later this year! Lots of content coming with that
In mistlands, very important to balance speed, endurance and defense.
Totally agreed. Wise words
I still think Fenrings should drop fenris fur and claws. Maybe even the cultists and ulvs too. Out of all three, only the cultists have a unique drop. Speaking of Mountain mobs, the Stone Golems should drop silver ore. They literally have visible silver veins running through them.
I completely agree
@@SpazzyjonesGaming I found a mod called Drop That by ASharpPen but unfortunately, it's not a simple mod to use and I can't figure it out. From what I understand, it can be used to edit what mobs drop, but I must be doing something wrong because it's not working for me. Can't find any tutorials either.

Amazing guide!!!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Thank you!
very informative - looking forward to an update to this (post ashlands)
glad you enjoyed! Soon!
Bold of you to assume i have any vision. No armour, fists only! (But ty for the info 😂)
lolol. Anytime!
I would still sacrifice armor for that Viking drip
Are you a nudist? 😜
fenris set+feather cape+berzerkr axes= god mode in the meadows and black forest biomes lol without using any cheats you could run this gear set and have no fear of anything I even cranked it up to max combat difficulty what helped even more but was op for the biomes too was the lightning upgrade on the axes made cleaning out loot from those biomes fun and fast
the food and pots really didn't matter much due to nothing even being able to hit me hard enough to worry and by the time you have the gear you should have food and pots to at least match all I know is I felt like a true badass as I ran around and faced trolls head on and would parry and take care of them in a flash
totally right
You mix and match armor to maximize value.
I mix and match armor to maximize fashion.
We are not the same.
I respect it
For fighting Moder would you suggest the full root set with the wolf cape for the +15 bow skill or just the full fenris set for the extra defence and movement speed?
Full fenris in my opinion!
@@SpazzyjonesGaming thanks! I was really on the fence about it
I definitely prefer being fast!
There should be a Rag Tunic hard mode challenge where you are not allowed to craft new armor and can only wear the starter tunic
Im surprised nobody has done that already. maybe I should try :p

Thanks for the vid mate! Just got into the Swamps for the 2nd time since I started playing, i'm eager to wreck the shit out of mobs and discover those sweet armors combination 😊 👍
No problem! Glad you enjoyed it
I haven't played in a while (Mistlands had only just dropped and they bugs weren't nerfed yet) but you left out the Drake Helm.
As for the food, everything now is just bland, straight upgrades to one another.
Did this mf really present mixing and matching armor as "out of the box" thinking !? 😂😂
You're goddamn right! 😜
so do you think for the mistlands(and just every biome in general that has some level of difficulty)that it would be a better idea to use the root harnesk instead of full carapace?

There is really not much to talk about. There is heavy armour which slows you down and light armour which doesnt slow you down as much or even makes you move faster. Thats it. Set bonuses are most of the time irrelevant anyway

Gotta convince people to click somehow haha @@SweetJP.
Two reasons not to do it:
1) Fighting and getting hit is like 20% of your gameplay time. While 90% time is running around. So more movespeed saves your time.
2) Moving quicker helps getting hit less by better positioning, avoiding being flanked and evasion.
Agreed@@Lorifel0
Leather armor is useless just get a shield and kite with a bow directly to troll armor
i usually craft leather personally

Do i need to start over the game?
your world stays the same, as long as you haven't explored where the Ashland's is supposed to be it wall generate
as stated previously, objects and content will update on unexplored spaces but not to those that have been explored before.
Nah, imma keep my carapace armor with my 2h sword, i'm a warrior dammit

There is really not much that can match fenris armour. Movement speed is superiour to pretty much everything, unless maybe when you play on highest difficulty level and if you want to cast .
I couldn't agree more
Combine it with the best heavy helmet though. You loose only 3% movement but gain a lot of armour points.
so how did we think about the armor "ALL WRONG"? u just talked about the armors as they are :D

“Oh no he didn’t grind out everything for his build when the video is just discussing statistics” 😂

Its not pronounced Eye-ter
Its ether. Its just spelled that way because norse and runes and all that.
Good to know! I actually didn't know that
@SpazzyjonesGaming its like one of those dead languages. But basically in runic languages one chractee would represent multiple sounds or like each was a syllable.
They didnt do 100% because things like bronze/blueberries or carrot seed dont seem to follow this and should probably be spelled different too. Seems like they only went that way for the proper name like Eikthyr
Nice! Thanks for letting me know. Appreciate your comments!@@thatswhatshesaid1669
The root harnesk is such a busted item. Light armor should never be a best in slot defensive item.
That's a pretty good point. There should be a larger downside with going with the roof armor

All good. appreciate the support! I think I am just sensitive to digesting feedback in trying to improve my videos@@djhartford4549
is it just me or is the headphone audio a bit pain to listen to?
Yeah it is. its something I have to improve.
I like how you pronounce err-merrr 🤣🤣
I use the Epic Loot mod, and I found a legendary silver dagger that gives +20% movement speed. With that and full fenris....boy I am ZOOMING.
That sounds sweet! one of these days I'll have to give mods a try!
Sadly almost all armors are kind of ugly... Probably the Drake Helmet is the only cool-looking armor piece and then... I can't think of another one.
I hear that. Maybe they can do something with the shields like when you craft them you can pick from a few different options. It would be nice to have some more variety
Why not just give a link with that exel table? :D
I honestly probably should. I’ll see what I can do in the future
