Things are starting to change. In the West we still have preconceptions like if a product has the Chinese flag on it, it is a cheap and poor quality product. And if a product has the German flag or the UK, US, etc. on it, it is a quality product from the start. So this “made in” is like a guarantee of quality, but it takes time to build this trust, and I think China should already impose some high quality standards for companies that export products to the world in order to gain this trust. I recently bought a washing machine produced by a very large company in China, and I can say that it meets the highest standards already, and I am very happy with it. Well done China!

The question is, Where did the $8 (12 - 4) profit go? . They TRIED to exploit China. They DID exploit the "Home Consumer" and the "Home Consumer" fell for the "Chines rubbish" line. . Well, Now CHINESE companies are taking the "$10" (Top quality) products, which THEY can build for $6 and SELLING them for $12. BUT These are "New Tech" products and "Western" companies don't have the 30 year experience of BYD (etc). The "Western" offerings are $24 (inflation!?) or double the price, and they have to buy a lot of tech from China so they barely make any profit. . No "Subsidies" on the Chinese side. Just 30 years R&D plus Economy of scale.

There are many other brands of EVs in China, BYD is not the most economical for taxi drivers, they prefer lower price EVs and there are many others to choose from.

Hi Lizzy, just to share with you that BYD is testing a new concept on car steering that no physical mechanical linkage are connected to the wheels. Instead wheels on different sides are turnt on different speed (by electric motor for sure)to achieve steering. It's revolutionary.

How can the US compete on technology, design, quality, functionality, features, and pricing of these cars?! You are so fortunate to be able to experience this time in China where you are living the future in the present as a young person. These memories and experience you are acquiring are priceless. BYD does not stand for "Build Your Dreams" - that's just an acronym for western markets. The real reason is the brand was named after a highway called Yadi, it registered the name at car shows but being near the bottom of an alphabet listing with "Y" wasn't the best so they added the "B" to the front of the brand to be up near the top of the list when advertised in an alphabetical listing - so more accurately it's BiYaDi or shortened to BYD.
