I've Never Been More Worried Watching an NBA Game | Zion Williamson Injury Risk

- Опубликовано: 8 июн 2024
- The regular season is a few days away and there's already some concern surrounding New Orleans Pelicans Zion Williamson and a possible knee injury. I've never been more worried watching a player in the NBA then when Zion Williamson is on the court. The combination of an abnormal gait pattern and his body weight and playing style make me really concerned about him getting hurt.

Dude, that's what I was about to write
I love how educational this channel is, now I’m gonna be looking at people like oh look that dude has a trendelenburg gait bro. 🤣
😂 this comment highly underrated
Lol I agree. Very educational. But it sounds like something you would say "pause" to.. lol
mike johnson why say pause? Only uneducated peasants don’t know what a trendelenburg gait is 🧐 we my friend are a circle of learned doctors and have no concerns for lesser minds.

Doc, you literally called this, that's crazy
I hope he never gets injured cause he’s soooo entertaining to watch🥺
kaleel clark why are you calling yourself out like that?
@Alex Cham did you get that? Or is that too much math for you?
Read the description asshole
@Alex Cham Now ya dumbass lookin sick
He walks like D.Rose he lands like him
Hope they realize how bad of an outcome it can be down the road and work with him to improve. He's such talented and athletic specimen. Hope that we can enjoy his games years to come and reflect on this moment as a good warning.
Tf are you on about? Rose never walked like that
yoshatabi ruclips.net/video/ZKQRiQam5xM/видео.html
Not as pronounced as Zion but you could see a slight stiffness when walking
I was about to say that too
I was going to say the same thing. He keeps landing like D-Rose he'll have a short career. Good video Doc. Thank you.
He walks like he's not trying to crease his shoes.

Who's watching this just after finding out Zion is out with a knee injury? 😪😪😪
is he ? what kind of injury ?
No injury! Only “right knee soreness” but enough for the pelicans to be concerned, but then again they are being extremely over protective
Eogh4n everybody you clown. The video was uploaded today.

Calling people a clown is starting to go stale tbh. Lol let’s find another word to voice our displeasure about another person’s comment.
@@jamesn6458 haha don't consider myself a clown, I just want Zion playing his game and doing his thing this year. He deserves that

Zion is a good kid. I hope he gets his body right
He really is. And a special athlete.
@Donovan Lewis *cough* Yao Ming *cough*
Sad he tore his meniscus
Two years later and the guy looks like he is 300 lbs. He's toast. He won't last without a radical reworking of his weight, lower body strength gait etc.
He’s like deku still getting use to one for all

Darn it, you right

Zion is powerful n fearless but at the of the day, he's still a human.
@Hey Mister DJ he was just making a fact you sped
Yeah unfortunately that is probably going to land him on the long list of injured rookies.
He ate LeBrons facial hair.
@Hey Mister DJ u can't handle the truth lol gtfo here
@Hey Mister DJ SHATAAPP!!
They just updated Zion’s knee soreness. He’s gonna be out for a few weeks with some kind of injury now. It’s already begun, Doc
just saw that...man that sucks.
I knew he would have problems on his knees just the way he plays and his size. It’s really concerning but let’s hope the medical staff and the whole pelicans organization will manage him right or else Zion will be Gregg oden 2.0.
That's the only style of play he has to offer. He doesn't has a finesse, smooth type game as per say a, small forward who has a good stroke.
Pretty sure it was from a knee to knee collision in the spurs game
Marky Mark the pelicans got Aaron Nelson from the suns on their medical staff now, arguably one of the best in the league. He’s in pretty good hands.
My teacher uses your vids for lessons. And they inspire to become an Athletic trainer
So far, this video is aging like wine.
Yess
He just had surgery on his torn meniscus! That's crazy.
Hey the Doc straight up called it, even when all the mainstream media (including WOJ) calling his knee issues not serious. I consider his 6-8 weeks recovery serious for a rookie.
@@ewjiml Woj reports what he is told, he doesn't speculate. He was told it was not serious (and in view of recent injuries to Porzingis, KD, Klay and DMC it is not that serious) so he reported it wasn't serious. Don't treat him like he has some crystal ball - he is a reporter.
Well, this aged well
He pretty much nailed it
I'm 6'4" tall and have had knee problems my whole life. Watching Zion I've always had a sense of amazement but there was always an odd level of anxiety that I couldn't place. Two minutes into this video and I can see exactly why I feel that. Seeing that line you drew to describe his knee angle hit the nail on the head and made me cringe. I don't know if I even have to watch the rest of this video after that. Yikes.
Man revisiting this video. It’s crazy seeing how people today are talking about dropping Zion from the team for his overweight issue
They just mentioned he’s relearning how to walk and land. The nba truly needs you
He’s like if Derrick Rose was carrying a backpack full of bricks...I’m genuinely worried about him
Can you go over jeremy lins injury where he tore his patellar tendon

When u get injured you realize how easy it is to get buckets just using your brain instead of all that extra shit
Do not ever compare yourself to zion
@@mavericks2048 He just mentioned the similarity of his play style and zion's playstyle. He's not really saying that he's as good as zion.
@@mavericks2048 Bad news for you buddy, zion is human and not a deity. That's actually a good advice for zion.
@@painkiller5657 True that, same thing for D.Rose way back when. I'm pretty sure full athleticism D.Rose + current D.Rose IQ would be a beast. Only using his super human athleticism when needed and finessed his way most of the time.
I hate that this aged as well as it has. But also, it's science, and hopes and wishes aint gon change that
I didn’t know he walked like that. He looks like he’s injured already!
MC MLee he walks like a hockey player

What does that mean? What hockey player walks like that?
Dean Bryant pretty much all of us. Everybody I’ve played with had permanent knee and hip damage before high school
Hey doc. As a doctor myself, I have the same concerns for Zion. I really hope they have a world-class team of doctors, trainers, physiotherapists, nutritionists etc. on that Pelicans staff because this young man needs to be manged more intensely than the average NBA player. I've already heard Shaq and Chuck state publicly that he needs to get his weight under control. So his nutritionist, personal chef and personal trainer literally have to work as a cohesive group. If I were the Pelicans, I would definitely request that both Shaq and Chuck to him about the challenges of the NBA and get his parents involved. Not to mention a top notch psychologist because as a teenager it may be difficult to get if to understand certain concepts. It seems that he was raised in a stable environment so he may be more inclined to reason. I wish him all the best because I hate to see all of these injuries ruin careers.
Paula Estwick what are you a doctor in? I’m sure Shaq and Chuck have both reached out, everyone in or around the NBA can really find a way to talk to anyone if they really wanted to
The Pelicans have a history of poor medical amd training staff. Sorry to say

People have been calling this for a long time, he already has one major knee injury.
I find myself watching Brians videos on injuries pertaining to sports and people I don't even watch, thats how you know these videos are well made!
Sure enough, Zion will be out 6-8 weeks and will need to have a knee "cleaned out" meaning he has a minimum of a meniscus tear. Zion hasn't played one NBA game yet and we're talking surgery and rehab already. The Doc couldn't be more right on.
Please do Andre Roberson, that dude hasnt played in years since that one injury

I've been weightlifting on and off since I was very young. Any serious athlete or trainer has always strongly encouraged lifters to avoid "turning in your knees", especially during a lift. It's nice to finally have a name for it, and an explanation as to why it's dangerous beyond just assuming it increases the risk of injury.
Can we just appreciate how groundbreaking this channel is. I’ve been a fan for about 7 months
I hope the NBA teams (pels in this case) are watching your vids man! Always fantastic information! Teams might just gain a pointer or two watching these. If the Pels don't get someone on Zion to try and teach him less risky play he's gonna miss time every single season. I just feel it and this vid really makes me think I'm right now too. You explained everything I was feeling watching him play that I didn't know how to articulate. Great Vidja!
2 years after your video uploaded zion doing his best to prove you right
Damn that’s depressing
I love this stuff, this is how sports teaches us so much about ourselves in general
Thank you so much for posting these videos! I'm so happy to see your channel continue to grow, you do such great work! One day I might study to become a Nurse Practitioner and your videos inspire me to keep doing what I'm doing until that day. Thanks again!
This is my favorite video of yours to this point. It definitely made me think about Zion. Hopefully he stays healthy and has a great career!
I’ve been saying this. He goes too hard and relies on his athleticism too much.
Fr, this guy has open lay ups and needlessly dunks above the rim, he's not gonna last long if he doesn't stop jumping at 120% every play
I think if could shed 30 -40 lbs he could afford to play that style
José Francisco You can’t just get rid of his motor.. it’s usually a great thing for a player to have but in this instance not so much.. he’ll figure it out I’m sure of it
Hopefully he can develop a little finesse and technique. Pure power never helps as you get older.
José Francisco imagine telling a nba player what to do🤣
This video aged well.

Revisiting cause I haven't seen Zion all year
5:31 called it! he just had surgery on his meniscus.
Good stuff Doc!! Keep it coming.
You made a great point at the end, about his body type plus his style of play. Jabari Parker comes to mind, 6'8" 250 lbs, quick and explosive. That's a lot of wear and tear and I feel like that contributed to his two acl injuries, and probably why he slimmed down a bit after he came back.
News December 26th 2019: "Pelicans are trying to teach Zion how to walk and run differently" - Well done dude you nailed it
Holy crap, spot on. He just had a surgery for his meniscus .
This dude has found a really good niche as a youtube channel. G'luck to you, sir.
This dude nailed it. Great video!
My man Zion about to become the next Greg Oden if he doesn't lose weight.
Dude not that tall...barely taller than Drew Brees in a picture i saw....def needs to lose weight on that frame
Jimmy Lopez barely taller than Drew Brees???? What?? Zion is 6’7... Brees is barely 6’
Drew brees is 5' 10"
Oden had one leg shorter than the other.
Or Anthony Bennett
He needs to get some weight off, otherwise he’ll never have a long term career. He’s amazing and I want to see him have success for a long time in the NBA. I don’t want to see another phenom go through a D. Rose story
yeah facts but thank god that drose won mvp before going thru injuries. it showed that he reached the top
Yea d rose still my favorite player and will always be 😢 Chicago bulls fan for life 😭
The sad part is that when he won the award he wasn't even in his prime, I was really sad that such a great player had that kind of injury and pissed at the Bulls staff for not addressing the issue earlier
His playstyle directly attached to his body mass. If he takes too much off he will be a useless player. He's played like this for the past decade or so which is about half his life. He better start transforming his game now like Griffin and Rosa have done, or he'll be the next greg oden.
I saw all this a long time ago. I was wondering why no one was talking about this. Even more, why the Pelicans haven't worked to address it from the start.... And just a few preseason games in and he's already injured. Prophetic video, thank you!

Secondly, can you analyse different medical teams from franchise to franchise... For example it's known that Suns have poor Medical stuff, while the Nuggets have good one.
This is like Krstaps Porzingis: His knees are too vulnerable.
Porzingis relies more on skill and finesse than raw athleticism.

How does someone with such a freakish valgus alignment become such an explosive athlete?
NBA needs to hire this man
I like the way you explain this video I hurt myself a while back I strain my hamstring below my knee into my calf and my patella tendon I did physical therapy so now I am okay but I have a little bit of tightness in the calf I've been using the pool and the foam roller I can walk now I can power walk and I can go up the stairs how long do you think it takes for a tight muscle in the calf to release back to normal
Only small forward i've seen that was
-Drafted top 10
-Is less than 20
-285lbs while being around 6'6 (keep in mind 7ft shaq at the same age was 294lbs)
-Walks as if he has major knee and hip problems
-45inch vert
-As fast as a guard
Zion is a generational type athlete who could be the face of the nba one day but he needs to not get injured.
He is not as fast as a PG... What?? Where are you getting this info? He's a great athlete. But not even as athletic as LeBron was at his age. @@beaubeauknows3620 for sure, but you dont want to lose weight fast because you will also lose muscle and could cause injury.
That is not entirely true. In a fasted state past 24 hours you loose even higher proportion of fat to muscle, and even less muscle if you work out all your muscles while in a fasted state.
