That is not entirely true. In a fasted state past 24 hours you loose even higher proportion of fat to muscle, and even less muscle if you work out all your muscles while in a fasted state.
I have been saying this. It is amazing that zio gained like almost hundred pounds and be able to play as athletic as he is. Doesnt matter if it is muscle or fat, weight is weight. I got slower and couldnt jump as high when I started bodybuilding and put like 30 pounds of muscle to my original frame. He might not beslowing down but his joints and tendons are. He either has to cut weight to like 240-260 or change his playstyle. He looks like a strongman not a basektball player
No. He got some knee problems for sure. You dont walk like that because your cool. That doesnt even lool cool. It looks like a 300 pound obese person when he walks.
Wow this was so on point, he’ll miss 6-8 weeks with the meniscus and with the Pelicans’ poor history of injury mgmt or athletic trainers poor guy probably won’t last long. Hopefully he got some money for being a 1st ovr pick.
Genu valgum problem is very very serious... Zion have to learn limiting his athletism and mobility, of course jumping with his "both" legs... But first of all, he have to loose weight about 10-15 kg... He have to improve his middle and long-range shot... Ideal position for Zion is power forward...
@Brian Sutterer MD I think what you, perhaps deliberately, didn't go into, is the obvious causes for the "waddle" gait. Trendelenburg Gait points to weakness in the abductors and external rotators in the hip, which looks more like a "hike" each time a person takes a step forward. Zion looks like he has the opposite - a waddle which is usually seen with intra-articular hip pathology, like a labral tear or hip OA, or very tight hip abductors + external rotators. Tight hip abductors would also explain functional knee valgus, and would be easily caused by someone who has prioritised the hypertrophy of muscles that act on extension of the hip; ie someone who prioritises dunking/vertical explosive motion. Zion's waddle gait could be directly related to weakness in his hip adductors and flexors, and if he's prioritised vertical training which I'm sure he definitely has, his over-stimulated, possibly hypertonic gastroc and soleus muscles may be accentuating flat feet, and he may have significant weakness in his tibialis anterior, etc. I think there is significant compensatory training ahead for him if he wants to preserve and balance his lower limb biomechanics, in addition to weight reduction amongst other things.
Also can you explore Carsen Edwards, who appears to display possible hip retroversion and tibial torsion? That dude is also very explosive but he too has possible biomechanical risks for lower limb injury
I’m so glad you addressed the elephant the room, he needs to lose weight point blank. It’s unnerving how the pelicans staff haven’t addressed this over 6 months after they drafted him. No amount of precaution is going to help him unless all parties are committed to him improving his weight.
I’ve seen countless people on the internet kinda just poking fun at Zion’s “waddle” when he walks and how his legs are bow legged. Come to find out those “funny” traits could put him at risk for major injuries. And now reports are saying he’s going to miss several weeks to start the season. Yikes! Great video and explanation, Doc!

ben he’s not all muscle, it’s easy to see he has a lot of baby fat that he can get rid off
Dude I love your videos! Very educational
You should do a video on how and why someone like LeBron very rarely gets injured and is able to recover so well.
Philboh8 he has the best conditioning of any player
@@beaubeauknows3620 I know, I just would like to see in depths how he's balanced etc. Basically an opposite version of this video
Philboh8 dude on steroids
D Rose and Zion in the NBA and Saquon Barkley in the NFL - all have incredible explosion and unusual gaits. Loved and love all 3 of them. God Bless!
This is like Krstaps Porzingis: His knees are too vulnerable.
Porzingis relies more on skill and finesse than raw athleticism.
He just got some swagger
A death god advocating in defense for zion? Oh boy, this won't gonna be some career ending injury...
No. He got some knee problems for sure. You dont walk like that because your cool. That doesnt even lool cool. It looks like a 300 pound obese person when he walks.
Good stuff Doc!! Keep it coming.
he called it at 5:31
Wow, you nailed this one.
would you mind doing a video on Porzingis considering the level of scrutiny surrounding his injury risk?
This man deserves more subs
Wow this was so on point, he’ll miss 6-8 weeks with the meniscus and with the Pelicans’ poor history of injury mgmt or athletic trainers poor guy probably won’t last long. Hopefully he got some money for being a 1st ovr pick.
Genu valgum problem is very very serious... Zion have to learn limiting his athletism and mobility, of course jumping with his "both" legs... But first of all, he have to loose weight about 10-15 kg... He have to improve his middle and long-range shot... Ideal position for Zion is power forward...
Zion just got injured. 9 hours after this was posted. Wow
Hes been injured you moron. Doc Even mentioned the report of soreness in the vid.
He’s got Kenny the jet smith knees
Matchstick knees matchstick knees
I’m so glad you addressed the elephant the room, he needs to lose weight point blank. It’s unnerving how the pelicans staff haven’t addressed this over 6 months after they drafted him. No amount of precaution is going to help him unless all parties are committed to him improving his weight.
How does someone with such a freakish valgus alignment become such an explosive athlete?
These videos make me more worried about my health than Chubbyemu videos.
I've been concerned since day 1 cos Unc Shay Shay said it.
Your analysis has doubled the concern.
Pelicans management hearing this...
🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️wtf
@@jimmyjay689 And he just got injured
He did just get injured.
About 50 minutes into new Ringer pod with Russillo and Simmons they talk about you and this video
Derrick Rose was pound for pound, the most athletic, strongest, fastest, NBA player. He was ferocious. No disregard for his body. I still look back and wish he had won the championship in his MVP year because he earned/deserved it for his dedication.
