Thanks. You saved me a ton of money and time. I got One Click and that was it. I took my starter out and cleaned the connections as you suggested. Worked great!
Thank you so much for this! I just replaced my starter on my 18 LTZ and watched this about 10 times. The only issue I had was my red clip broke, but not too worried about it. Thanks again for the detailed video. I couldn’t have done it without this. 👍🏼
Just went through this with my 2017 Sierra. Thought it was the starter. Cleaned the terminals like he said. Put it back on and it started right up. Saved $550. Thanks for the video!
Typically, I spoil myself and let them sit inside for a while to melt off but this fella was in a hurry to get the truck back. We've had a mostly snowless winter up until the other day so its hard to complain too much!
@@Tomsfoolery. Same weather here in Wisco for the most part. Got slammed during Xmas with about a foot of snow, high winds and bitter cold. Then rain off and on, with mild temps until this Wednesday when we got a fresh 5 inches or so. I was getting concerned seeing all the land mines in the yard, but they’re gone now!
Thanks for posting this video. It saved me a lot of time and pucking around on a snowy 20-degree day in my driveway in western NY. Happy New Year to you.
This video is great luckily I haven’t bought a new starter yet, I have the very same issue. I’m gunna now take mine out, hopefully clean that connection and try again because a new starter where I am is 450$ Canadian 👍🏼
Just like you I forgot one inner fender bolt. Also had the video playing a few times through as I did the job and just as you said “l really wish I wasn’t getting rained on right now.” A big ol’ drop of rain water dripped off the car land landed right in my mouth.
I just did this in my driveway on ramps. Be very very careful removing the starter wire as there is a red clip that will break under little to no resistance. I would recommend doing it this way, yanking the tire and fender well because it is right going up from underneath. I was lucky enough to not break the clip on mine. I used a small flat head and went very slowly getting it off. This is a great tutorial but if you don’t have a car lift, you can do it from under the truck!
2017 Silverado custom, multiple occasions had a no start issue where it would do nothing but click the starter once and everything would die. Battery is 9 months old so I jiggled the wires at both ends, battery fuse and starter and the thing started right up. Looks like I have some cleaning to do.
Helpful tip to not break the red tab. Don’t pull down on the tab. Instead, use a 90 degree pick to push down on the body of the tab that’s inside the connector.
How you doing bro , I hope you see this and comment back soon , but I have a 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 lt 5.3 engine 2 wheel drive . Long story short bro , I think there’s electrical problems . Stability track would come on , the truck flickers off and on . And now it just won’t start . We have a new battery in the truck , we thought it was the starter but we think it has something to do with electrical . What and how can I go about this bro ? I don’t wanna buy a new starter and install it just for the truck still not start up .
try going to your Fuze box under the hood. And make sure the Clamps are down all the way locked. , ( the hole box) then push the box with your hands , some will develop a gap in them, and if you just push it down , it all comes back alive, 🤯😡, these trucks are now showing us there Ugly sides , gl , im in same boat , except my starter is clean, CLEAN, so there is nothing for me to clean, so im in Deep , Forced to go buy. New starter, 🤔🧐
The starter would need to be removed to clean up that bad connection. If this was my own truck, I would have stuck the old starter back in it and ran it.
I replaced my starter and now works fine but after disconnecting battery now i have a message on dash steering assist is reduced drive with care . how do you clear the message.
Question. I have a 2015 gmc 2500. Doesn't start so went to starter and see a wire is off. End looks like a female butt connector. Can't find a male connector. Is there one I'm missing.
I am having the "1 click" issue, but my truck still starts if I have a higher voltage (i.e getting a jumper from another running vehicle). Would it stand to reason that the higher voltage is overcoming some sort of corrosion issue in the starter? The issue is progressively getting worse. It used to start after driving for a bit after a couple hours of being off but now it wont last 5 minutes.
Same issue with my 15. One click when i try to start and only starts with a jump from another vehicle. Battery tested good and alternator did too. I guess a starter is in my future
@2strokeFORever I just recently put a new battery in as well my voltage meter reads around 12V if I try ro crank it I get the click but when I put jumper cables to it bumps up to 14 v and cranks right up
@@fantaztikbeatz yea its sad because i think the starter is still good its just the connection from the solenoid to the starter motor gets terribly corroded. Replaced mine today and i am good to go. Wasn't fun but have done worse
Same here honestly. I thought the hard part was over and then as I'm trying to take the starter out I noticed I have two hard lines running right under where the starter is supposed to come out of. There's no way the starter is going to slip through those 2 hard metal lines? I'm confused as to how I'm supposed to get it out without any more removing. Removing. Any advice?
How do I know my starter is bad? Literally I parked my truck after trip than next day wanted to go to store it had power but did not even try to turn over..I put new battery sane crap. I remember back in the day starter made noise I hit it with hummer and it started..this 2017 1500 silverado just acts as there is no battery bc there is no noise

That’s great to hear!
Thank you. This was very helpful and informative without dragging! I will look forward to more posts like this from you! I have a 2017 Silverado 1500.
Awesome! Thank you!
Brings back not so good memories of wrenching in the winter back in the 80’s. Don’t miss the frozen fingers either. 😊

Very helpful buddy. I appreciate you taking the time to film this!
Thank you!
You saved me $400. Much appreciated!
Sweet!
Thank you! Your time and knowledge is greatly appreciated 🙏
We’re so different. I would have been cursing up a storm when that bolt fell on the new starter. 😂

Oh we aren’t so different! I just have to try to keep it PG for the YT algorithm 😂
Thank you this was so helpful. Had the job done in about 25min. Thanks again
Great job! Thanks for the feedback!
Excellent video thanks for sharing. I'll be changing mine out this weekend.

Thank you very much! I was able to replace my starter quick without any issues!
That’s great! Good job!
Great video. My red tab broke as well. They always doze. I used a plastic zip tie to put tension on it so it stays on
That’s a good idea, thanks!

Thanks for a great video👍🏽💯... I hope to see a video of u cleaning that connection on the old starter and installing to see if it really will work💯🤙🏽
Excellent video. Thank you for the video. It was so helpful, and thank you again for your advice on cleaning the terminals.
Thank you very much and explaining on cleaining the connection to get rid of the corrosion.

Thank you!! Seems to be a common problem with these trucks.
good to see you again love the video.
Thanks Earl! I’m going to try to stay more consistent going forward. How are you guys doing? Enjoying that warm weather?

What am I supposed to do when the bolt closest to the engine just spins

Could the bad connection be cleaned up with the starter installed or does it need to be removed
The starter would need to be removed to clean up that bad connection. If this was my own truck, I would have stuck the old starter back in it and ran it.
Sooooooo what happens if you break the connector to the starter because the plastic is so brittle 😢
I replaced my starter and now works fine but after disconnecting battery now i have a message on dash steering assist is reduced drive with care . how do you clear the message.
Would this process work for '18 Suburban as well?
Yes
YOU MAKE IT LOOK EASY
If you pull the fender liner, it’s a fairly easy job!
If i did break the plug with the screewer😢?
Great job
I had to change mine on a 2018 but i just went from under the truck it was easy.

There is no way in hell I can get the starter out from the bottom. I have zero room. I just fought with it for two hours and still haven't gotten it
Do you have to remove the wheel well plastics and stuff, or can you just do the 2 bolts from under?
I've heard the V6 is very tricky to get the starter out of its home.. will be trying it next week

How does it come out so easy.. i have the 4.3 and i can't get it out
I’m screaming the same question. Did you have any luck?
I am having the same issue?!?! Holy $$ have you guys managed to get the starter out? 2017 4.3 V6 4wd starter replacement big job
Good job, Good job!
Thanks!
Great video
Thanks!
Has anyone had the starter go in the open/start position and drain the battery?
Pretty sure that’s what mine is doing. 2019 Suburban with a 5.3L V8
MAKE SURE YOU’VE RULED OUT THE BATTERY AS THE PROBLEM 😊
