Just changed the battery in my 2017 Silverado 1500 LT. It was VERY MUCH EASIER following your video. Wrench sizes, tips, etc. Mine had an extra bolt on connection and plug to the positive bus on top of the battery that came off the passenger side so had to disconnect those to relocate the positive bus. Disconnected and reconnected when done with no problems electrically anywhere. Thank you for the excellent tutorial - it is greatly appreciated!!
You did a step differently than another video creator did; yours saved me about 6 to 10 minutes. And like others said, the tip of turning the battery on its side was golden.
Your video was awesome. It took me a little longer because I had to take some breaks. I'm 80 and lost the partial use of my right arm and hand. Couldn't have done it without your video.
Thank you for the video. I’ve got to change the battery on my 2500 Silverado tomorrow morning. If it’s as easy as the video, I should have no problems. Thank you again.
Sunday morning. Got it all done. Starts like a freaking champ. Great video. Thank you again, big time!!!
Thanks so much for posting this video. I just changed out the battery on a 2015 Silverado. Simple and straight forward, it was a big help!
Thanks Topdog!
Did a little wrenching on my 2016 Silverado today and followed your instructions. Other than one cut finger, it was perfect! Thank you!
It's not working doing mechanic work without a "casualty" lol cut finger/pinched finger/paper cut/scuffed arm/ etc etc lol
I learned to work on cars with a long sleeve and rubber gloves... lol
Can't thank you enough for the turn the battery sideways hack! Saved me a ton of work in a cold driveway!
Thank you for taking the time and effort to record this video! It made the difficult job of changing out this battery MUCH easier!
Thanks chucklee!
Just a quick safety tip.. if you plan to turn it sideways to remove the battery it’s best to use the terminal covers that came with your new battery to avoid contacting both terminals with any metal in the area. Batteries have enough juice to weld and it can be very dangerous doing it this way.
This guy made me nervous watching the removal. The reservoir is 2 small bolts, can remove battery easily and replace it with a GROUP 48, smaller case same power.
Let alone, explosion potential, and sulfuric acid leakage..😬
If you connect a series of batteries together properly, you can actually burn a 1/8" rod successfully
Duct tape the positive
@@kelnap2294 I just did this about an hour ago, two 10mm bolts and the water res moves easily. I also did a 48 group too - XS Power 4800! I have a 1500 systems tho too.
Was struggling to move the bus box(?) out of the way until I saw your video. And seeing you flipping it sideways made it much easier for me to get mine out too. Never would have thought of that. Thanks for lessening the struggle to get it out!
Just replaced mine today in my 2014 GMC SIERRA……your video made it very easy.
I did have to move my coolant tank out of the way but that was easy too
Thanks for posting
Thanks Chief! Glad it helped.
Thanks for the video. That coolant tank is a pain. It was easier than replacing the air filter!
After I finally got my battery changed I celebrated by going back to this video and slamming a shot every time you said "guys". :)
Nicely done, thanks SnavenPoo!
Great vid, was having problems for almost an hour, watched this and I got it to come right out. Gained a sub🤝
Glad to hear Dakota! It can be a frustrating job without some help. Happy to hear the video helped.
You're awesome man I was able to change my battery in about 15 minutes from watching this video it was nice that you had all the tools ready so I didn't have to go searching to see which one fit when it comes to sockets
Thanks for the video and helpful tips! Installing this exact battery as we speak in my 2014 Sierra. Had much luck in my 2015 Silverado with AGM
Thank you it was so easy and fast specially when it was cold outside:)
Appreciate it, and you're welcome! Nice to know the steps when's it cold out. Cheers, and please subscribe!
Unfortunately I let mine go too long and by the time I got back from vacation it was totally dead wouldn’t hold a charge so obviously jumping it was out of the question too so I was on my own here I will say it was a little more of a pain than my old Silverado but watching this video definitely saved me time I never like removing g anything I don’t absolutely have to so after getting my tools together start to finish this probably took 20 minutes only took me one try to flip the old one over and yank it out and luckily the new one I got which is a higher performance battery was noticeably thinner than my old one so it went in pretty easily I appreciate the tips and the tool list no doubt that saved me a lot of time
Thanks Jeremey, glad this helped!
Going through this now....glad I waited to find this video. Thanks for sharing!
Dude, thank you...this just made my life so much easier.
Glad to help brother, cheers! Glad you got it done.
Mahalo, I was cussing my truck out as I looked at the wide open battery tray in the front drivers side and thinking I had to pull the coolant tank on the tray they used - you saved me lots of time and cussing. Note on my 2018 Denali I did have to remove 3 wires on that bussbar, they came from both sides of the battery and it left me no choice.
I always say I am the least mechanically incline human male on the planet. Took me a couple hours and 2 trips to the store for tools I didn't have. I cut my arm wrangling the old battery out, but I got is swapped! Many thanks to this creator for the exact help I needed today.
Awesome, you're the man Chad! Nicely done.
So how do you like the new arm?😂
Excellent video! Got me through the repair in 30 minutes first time!!!
Great tips....saved me at least an hour trying to figure out how extract the battery from its perch.
Brother, thanks so much for posting that video. I had to change my battery this morning before going back to work tonight. Couldn't figure it out without removing a tank. Thumbs up to you sir.
Couple of things, the positioning of the battery on the side before lifting out, made that a lot easier. Both out and in. You can just loosen the firewall screw and remove the other two, then you can just swing the bar out of the way. I watched a couple of videos on this procedure and yours had some really good tips.
5 mins waiting for the video to get to where I needed it to be. Very informative
Wow never knew how difficult it is to remove the battery. Thanks
Had to change my battery today (I'm not a guy) and when you said "here's the really tough part - removing the battery" I'm like dude - challenge accepted - first time out first time in lol seriously though thanks for the video, couldn't have done it without it!!!
Women have tiny hands that can slither through tight spaces where men have huge hands that make jobs so much harder
Bro, my sincerest gratefulness, something that seems easy but isn't, until this video. Thanks again so much!
I'm glad I RUclips'd this before it turned into a 2hr job. These trucks look so intimidating to do the most minor tasks(*cough* replacing the intake filter *cough*) I'm glad after watching this video I avoided that headache👍🏼
Thank you!
Thank you so much man. Was told I would have to take it to the dealership shop to get it changed.
This was extremely helpful & I think you said "guys" about 279 times!
Great video! Thank you for making this. Saved me a lot time and frustration.
Been waiting a long time for a video that actually showed the battery getting pulled out
Exactly, that's the hard part to figure out! Thanks for watching.
@@TheTruckGuy I think the battery says right on it not to turn it on its side so I was always afraid to do that. If you don't you can't get it out.
Exactly, I figure for 30 seconds won't do anything. Plus, as you point out, there's no way around it, so my guess is GM doesn't see a concern either. If it makes you feel better, mine is running strong since my change and my previous one was fine too. I'm guessing if you leave batteries on their side for an extended period of times, it's obviously probably going to damage them due to the cells, etc.
Thank you so much!!!!!! You saved me $100.00 or more. I would of more than like been intimidated by just looking at it. With your help I was able to do the job myself. Thanks again!!!!
Wow, I was a little apprehensive about taking it out myself, but after watching your video...easy to do. Thank you very much
You are a gentleman and a scholar, thanks Troy!
Take that clamp totally out instead of just loosening it will help a ton during instillation of the new battery. Just did this on my 2018 Sierra thanks for your help
Nice Video!!! Made me feel way more confident before I started.
Thanks for the bolt size . Was quick for me cause of that had it in and out in 5 minutes. Make sure your caps you get have been put on your old battery . With the housing its hard to strike both at once but it can be fatal or your neighbors thinking a home alone scene lol
Nice work! Thanks for the video.
Thanks James, appreciate the kind words. Please subscribe if you haven't already!
Thanks Brother, awesome video. You made my job easy!!!
Great to hear Ruben! Glad you enjoyed it and it helped. Hit me up with a subscribe if you haven't already.
Just subscribed to your channel. Once again thank you
Appreciate the video! It was a big help!
I only had to remove the busswork and connections.
Taped up the pos post, flipped it sideways and it came right out.
Thank you!!
Man what a pain! I was looking for my ball pean hammer to start bending some metal. Thanks for the video and tip … haha get it TIP. Well done.
I couldn't figure out how to get the battery out, this video totally helped. I thought I was going to have to move other parts. 10 out of 10
Thanks I needed this video. I was about to disconnect all the wires to the bus bar, and thought, 'this is insane.' Hopped on youtube and the new battery install got so much easier with all your tips.
Same!! 😂
It's still insane. Who would make a truck that you have to drag the battery out sideways ?
I’m sorry but that’s not how a battery is removed from the Silverado just remove the 2 10mm bolts that mounts the coolant reservoir move to the side grab the battery lift handle and remove it the way it was intended not flipping it to it’s side or stepping up on a ladder reaching your arm under the battery needed, takes 2 minutes to move the reservoir much easier 👍🏻
I'm not a fan of that method, more work. The battery is on its side for 10 seconds with this change, it's not consequential.
I couldn't believe it. The reservoir has hoses on it for a reason. Ratt, the bolts are 6mm with 10mm heads.
I’d never flip a battery on it’s side like that. The reservoir needs to be moved. This is a terrible design. Hopefully GM fixed it on newer models.
Great Video…. Big Help.!! I work on stuff all the time and that bar on top of battery was scaring me a little till I seen this video. Thanks 🙏
@B the most frustrating thing to me is that they still have all the room on the driver side, where the battery went on older Chevy trucks.
Thank YOU. YOUR video was very helpful. NEGATIVE CLAMP WAS THE LAST THING TO BE CONNECTED.
Thanks Marco!
bro you’re a life saver
Perfect!!! Thanks laying the battery on its side works great! Thanks so much for the video.
Extremely Helpfull!!! thanks!
Thank you!
Thannnnk you for telling me how to take the battery out without taking other containers out
Hey i appreciate this video so much it saved me alot of time!!! Thanks so much!
I couldn’t get battery out, video was great help! Thanks!!
Big Time Saver thanks for the video. I changed the battery in a 2018 1500.
Thanks Rick!
I have question sir.. when I was changing my battery, I didn’t put the top back on the battery distribution block, and when I was tightening my negative I accidentally hit the wrench from my negative to one of the terminals on the side now the car won’t start at all or even try. Do you think I blew one of those fuses on the battery block? Was planning on checking it tonight but just thought I’d ask you as you seem to know what you’re doing! Thank you sir
Thanks for the video...real helpful and saved me a lot of time!
This video was a huge help. I couldn’t get the coolant tank loosened up so this made all the difference!
Thanks Adam! Glad it helped.
Awesome Video! Thankyou
your video totally saved us! Thank you! Question for you: we seem to have lost our OnStar and SiriusXM radio after we started it up. Everything else seems fine. OnStar is visible but not lit up on the screen and our SiriusXM is totally gone. Any ideas?
Take the positive and negative terminals off the battery, touch them together to discharge any remaining power and then hook everything back up. See if that solves your problem. If not check any fuses related to xm and onstar.
That absolutely worked! We are back in business! Thank you sooooo much!
Thank you for this video. I watched several related videos on this topic, but yours was the most helpful. I replaced the battery in my wife's 2019 Suburban today and your hints and tips saved me a lot of time and frustration. Well done.
Thanks for the video! Helped so much! Your advice was spot on!🔧😎👍
Thanks. Saved me a bunch of frustration
Great video saved a few steps like moving the coolant tank Thank You!
Thanks Spiro! Glad this helped out. I don't get why some videos insist you remove the coolant tank. Definitely not necessary.
Hey guys so I have a 2016 Chevy Tahoe and attempted to run a sound system in my truck , but my amps keep shutting off when I pick up the bass , this battery has 3 other power wires running off of it can I be that I’m pulling to much power and need to add another battery ?
What do you do to keep your engine bay so clean?
Thanks for the video!
I had the bigger battery , so I did have to remove one bolt on the coolant tank and move it the side . Great idea though to flip the battery on its side 😉👍
Thanks brother!
Thanks for this video.Cuold you show how change the fuse box?
Remote start stopped working after battery install also changed the battery in my fob n still won’t remote start any suggestions?
So... No system voltage support during the battery change? On some makes this would cause the windows and clock and radio station presets to be lost. Idle air mass memory as well.
Excellent tutorial. Swapped my battery today.
Excellent video Great to know the tricks of the trade I'm one mechanic to another like rotating the battery to get it in and out!
On marking the battery you do the month and the last number of the year so not the 2 and the 1 just the 1, if you can’t remember what decade it was there is a problem, not trying to be a duck but it helps a mechanic figure out how old a battery is and also helps with warranty coverage, a couple of years from now a mechanic won’t be able to tell if it’s 2021 or 2022 on this battery
Yeah, luckily I have a few other documentation points for this battery. I agree, that probably wasn't the best form. Please subscribe if you can.
I just bought a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500, never asked the dealer about if battery is the original, I hope it's not. I'll check it tomorrow.
Played the drinking game and took a shot every time he said "guys".
One week later and I am still recovering.😁
Guys is definitely a northern thing, if he was south it would be "yall"
Yo I never thought about turning it sideways. Was hella easy. Even easier than you made it seem. Everybody saying that's not how it's done it's dumb. Thanks for the tip.
Thanks for the comment!
I changed my battery on my 2019 silverado 1500, now the dash says “power steering drive with care” is there a fix? It worked fine before the battery change
Great video I found it very useful for me
Thanks for the walk through, very helpful 👍
You ain’t lying about turning the battery side ways to put it in i couldn’t get it to go the other way had I’d done this the first time would of saved me a lot of time thanks for the tip
Thanks Joey! Yes, it's a big time saver, glad to be able to help. Please subscribe if you don't mind.
@@TheTruckGuy yes sir will do keep them videos coming you did well
Thanks Joey, will do!
Good video and very helpful, thanks for posting it. 👍
FYI, take it or leave it, just for technical info in case you’re curious:
AGM = Absorbent Glass Mat (electrolyte [battery acid] is absorbed essentially in fiber glass and placed between the lead plates, as opposed to classic “flooded” cells, where the electrolyte is free flooded in the battery), it’s not technically gel.
Also, “bus” is the electrical equivalent of a piping header for mechanical systems. Usually a copper (or good conductive metal) bar for electricity to flow through, in place of a pipe that air/water/hydraulic fluid flow through.
I changed the battery in my 2017 YUKON back in June ("22), had to do the same thing, spin the battery on it's side to get it out & back in. I just changed the battery in my 2009 Silverado in December ('22) & that battery is much easier to change out.
Thanks for the helpful video!
Thanks Frank! Did you sub as well and watch any other videos?
@@TheTruckGuy just subbed but haven't watched other videos yet. But I did see some john deere vids that I will be checking out! I need to disable the reverse blade shut off on my tractor!
Thank You. I was so close to calling a mechanic because I didn’t want to damage anything.
Just changed mine, as much as I hated to put my battery on its side, pretty much had to. Perfectly good 2nd battery holder on my truck but chev said, "No, put it on the other battery holder".
Yeah, you're going to want to remove that other 'J' shaped vertical support bar too - you need that room. I also removed the flanged nut holding the rear facing side of the coolant reservoir for that extra half inch of maneuvering space. Both are easy to remove and reinstall if you know the 'tape trick' for holding the hardware onto the socket (or magnetic socket) ;-)
Good insight, thanks MrDDDEEEZZZ!
Thanks your the man
This was so helpful
So we did a battery swap and nothing comes on inside. Only thing that comes on is ding ding sound when you turn the key forward. And door locks work from remote. Note: this truck has been sitting for a year with no battery in it. Any suggestions?
check your fuses
thank you for posting this video. much appreciated!!!
The video was good to watch for learning as I have a GMC with a dead battery. The one thing that was annoying was the volume of the music compared to your talking. Just a thought.
For the intro? If so, I'll note that.
Any time you played music the volume was deafening as your volume in your vocal is so low that it needs to be turned up pretty high to hear you . Then when the music comes on it’s pretty loud .
Nice! And thank you sir
Super start platinum agm batteries are the truth. I have 2 for my audio system.
Thank you so much!!I had hell the first time I did this.Wish me luck 😄😄😄👍👍👍
Thanks Juan! Are you subscribed?
Good video it was a great help from you sir knock it out in 20 minutes😀👍🏼
Never seen a battery change like that in my life and I have changed a few batteries
Hello I have a question for you
I replaced my battery in my 2015 Sierra Denali
And now my head lights aren’t coming On
What do I need to look for
Can you help me please
Thank you
You need a cats-paw! You can use the flat part to get up under the edge to lift the battery up while on it's side. And then get under it again to lift it out. You can use it for the reinstall as well.
Good suggestion!
Thank You for the Video 🎉
The Truck Guy what do you have to do to fix the outside temperature reading? Great video!
Glad you enjoyed the video, please subscribe if you don't mind! I'd have to check into that one. I haven't had issues on my truck with the outside temp reading.
I drove around for five minutes and it changed back
Same Question I had , saw after driving for a few minutes it should go back to normal 👍😁 ... Thanks for The Video ..first time We Had to change the Battery in 6 yrs
