Exactly, I figure for 30 seconds won't do anything. Plus, as you point out, there's no way around it, so my guess is GM doesn't see a concern either. If it makes you feel better, mine is running strong since my change and my previous one was fine too. I'm guessing if you leave batteries on their side for an extended period of times, it's obviously probably going to damage them due to the cells, etc.
Had to change my battery today (I'm not a guy) and when you said "here's the really tough part - removing the battery" I'm like dude - challenge accepted - first time out first time in lol seriously though thanks for the video, couldn't have done it without it!!!
Great video, "guys"! On my '14 Silverado, you'd best remove the vertical piece that attaches to the cross bar over the battery. It's in the way of the buss assembly that has to be moved out of the way. Don't know if that's true for all Silverados. Rolling the battery to allow exit and entry was priceless. Would have been much more difficult otherwise! THanks!
Great video brother but take it from someone who has a 2017 1500 sierra and has messed with these batteries several times, just remove the coolant reservoir. You dont even need to remove the hoses connected to it. Just remove the two bolts that holt it in place and lift it up and lean it back out of the way. This eliminates the risk of damaging the reservoir when removing the battery and only takes a minute. Then just grab the battery handle and lift out. If your someone like me and can become impatient pretty easily at times, this is the way to go.
Thanks I needed this video. I was about to disconnect all the wires to the bus bar, and thought, 'this is insane.' Hopped on youtube and the new battery install got so much easier with all your tips.
Take that clamp totally out instead of just loosening it will help a ton during instillation of the new battery. Just did this on my 2018 Sierra thanks for your help

You're awesome man I was able to change my battery in about 15 minutes from watching this video it was nice that you had all the tools ready so I didn't have to go searching to see which one fit when it comes to sockets
So you do not have to tip the battery to get it back in there. There is a bolt that holds down the reservoir next to the battery. If you loosen that a little bit it will move and give you room to put the new battery in without tipping it. Sometimes tipping a battery can cause acid to leak out.
I’m sorry but that’s not how a battery is removed from the Silverado just remove the 2 10mm bolts that mounts the coolant reservoir move to the side grab the battery lift handle and remove it the way it was intended not flipping it to it’s side or stepping up on a ladder reaching your arm under the battery needed, takes 2 minutes to move the reservoir much easier 👍🏻
I recently changed the battery in my 19 Tahoe. Looks identical, But I only had to simply lift the front of the battery first. Tipping on the side seems like a risky move without positive side cover on it.
On marking the battery you do the month and the last number of the year so not the 2 and the 1 just the 1, if you can’t remember what decade it was there is a problem, not trying to be a duck but it helps a mechanic figure out how old a battery is and also helps with warranty coverage, a couple of years from now a mechanic won’t be able to tell if it’s 2021 or 2022 on this battery
I assume that this method of turning the battery is only recommended if the old and new batteries are both AGM? I've never seen anyone ever turn a regular liquid acid battery without it leaking.
Man, from 5:07 I had to crank up the volume to hear what you were saying, then an ad came on, about gave me a coronary. Do you have an external mic? Thanks for posting sir, good info. I got the the diesel so it's doubly expensive! Ouch!
Replace the original H7 “94” with an H6. Same width, can match or exceed the original 720cc and it’s 2 inches shorter. Fits perfectly into the channels on battery tray and once you tighten the hold down bushing you’re all set. You will never have to remove the coolant reservoir or vertical bracket when changing your battery. 22 year GM mechanic here @Dave Arbogast Buick GMC Troy Ohio. Work smarter not harder
Thank you for this video, if you don't mind, we are going to link your video on our channel so people who needs help with this task can get your exelente step-by-step instructions to do the same.
I have question sir.. when I was changing my battery, I didn’t put the top back on the battery distribution block, and when I was tightening my negative I accidentally hit the wrench from my negative to one of the terminals on the side now the car won’t start at all or even try. Do you think I blew one of those fuses on the battery block? Was planning on checking it tonight but just thought I’d ask you as you seem to know what you’re doing! Thank you sir
The video was good to watch for learning as I have a GMC with a dead battery. The one thing that was annoying was the volume of the music compared to your talking. Just a thought.
Any time you played music the volume was deafening as your volume in your vocal is so low that it needs to be turned up pretty high to hear you . Then when the music comes on it’s pretty loud .
Pretty darn good except for volume up & down & top of your hat blocked camera ! There are other videos for this year but different tops (?) Mine is like this ! Thanks "Guy's "
Thanks for the bolt size . Was quick for me cause of that had it in and out in 5 minutes. Make sure your caps you get have been put on your old battery . With the housing its hard to strike both at once but it can be fatal or your neighbors thinking a home alone scene lol
I changed the battery in my 2017 YUKON back in June ("22), had to do the same thing, spin the battery on it's side to get it out & back in. I just changed the battery in my 2009 Silverado in December ('22) & that battery is much easier to change out.
You ain’t lying about turning the battery side ways to put it in i couldn’t get it to go the other way had I’d done this the first time would of saved me a lot of time thanks for the tip
your video totally saved us! Thank you! Question for you: we seem to have lost our OnStar and SiriusXM radio after we started it up. Everything else seems fine. OnStar is visible but not lit up on the screen and our SiriusXM is totally gone. Any ideas?
Take the positive and negative terminals off the battery, touch them together to discharge any remaining power and then hook everything back up. See if that solves your problem. If not check any fuses related to xm and onstar.
Alright so I Just did this with absolutely no experience for the first time and I was able to change this battery within ten minutes, thank you very much.
So... No system voltage support during the battery change? On some makes this would cause the windows and clock and radio station presets to be lost. Idle air mass memory as well.

I'm not a fan of that method, more work. The battery is on its side for 10 seconds with this change, it's not consequential.
I couldn't believe it. The reservoir has hoses on it for a reason. Ratt, the bolts are 6mm with 10mm heads.
I’d never flip a battery on it’s side like that. The reservoir needs to be moved. This is a terrible design. Hopefully GM fixed it on newer models.

Looks identical,
But I only had to simply lift the front of the battery first.
Tipping on the side seems like a risky move without positive side cover on it.
It’s a helpful video and I thank you for that if you would just stop saying you guys so much.
Big Time Saver thanks for the video. I changed the battery in a 2018 1500.
Thanks Rick!
thanks bro first time drive a truck need to learn 🙏
On marking the battery you do the month and the last number of the year so not the 2 and the 1 just the 1, if you can’t remember what decade it was there is a problem, not trying to be a duck but it helps a mechanic figure out how old a battery is and also helps with warranty coverage, a couple of years from now a mechanic won’t be able to tell if it’s 2021 or 2022 on this battery
Yeah, luckily I have a few other documentation points for this battery. I agree, that probably wasn't the best form. Please subscribe if you can.
Thank you so much!!I had hell the first time I did this.Wish me luck 😄😄😄👍👍👍
Thanks Juan! Are you subscribed?
I assume that this method of turning the battery is only recommended if the old and new batteries are both AGM? I've never seen anyone ever turn a regular liquid acid battery without it leaking.
Thanks for the walk through, very helpful 👍
What happened to the alarm, it’s supposed to activate once the negative terminal disconnects first, I don’t get it 😅
Man, from 5:07 I had to crank up the volume to hear what you were saying, then an ad came on, about gave me a coronary. Do you have an external mic? Thanks for posting sir, good info. I got the the diesel so it's doubly expensive! Ouch!
Great vid, was having problems for almost an hour, watched this and I got it to come right out. Gained a sub🤝
Glad to hear Dakota! It can be a frustrating job without some help. Happy to hear the video helped.

The stability Track came on my Truck and turned off I change the battery it went away 2 yrs now it came back again wondering if it's Battery again?
Maybe parasite drain
Just did this yesterday. No issues. 15 minute job. Thanks! Why anyone would remove anything else is just plain dumb.
You can replace the distribution block. Easy. I just did. But I still have voltage drop? New battery I here that the computer needs to be reset.
You my friend is a genius. 😘😘
The video was good to watch for learning as I have a GMC with a dead battery. The one thing that was annoying was the volume of the music compared to your talking. Just a thought.
For the intro? If so, I'll note that.
Any time you played music the volume was deafening as your volume in your vocal is so low that it needs to be turned up pretty high to hear you . Then when the music comes on it’s pretty loud .
Thank you so much buddy 🤗🤗🤗 thanks to you was an easy task
Awesome this made it super easy!!! But you should put a disclaimer that this only works with AMG batteries not acid types.
Thanks for the help!
Extremely Helpfull!!! thanks!
Thank you!
Thanks Joey! Yes, it's a big time saver, glad to be able to help. Please subscribe if you don't mind.
@@TheTruckGuy yes sir will do keep them videos coming you did well
Thanks Joey, will do!
your video totally saved us!
That absolutely worked! We are back in business! Thank you sooooo much!
Wow, I was a little apprehensive about taking it out myself, but after watching your video...easy to do. Thank you very much
You are a gentleman and a scholar, thanks Troy!
Alright so I Just did this with absolutely no experience for the first time and I was able to change this battery within ten minutes, thank you very much.
Great video. Thank you.
So... No system voltage support during the battery change? On some makes this would cause the windows and clock and radio station presets to be lost. Idle air mass memory as well.
Did u put a vent tube on your battery?? I just left both my ports open is that a concern?
I didn't, I think I closed them up after some research. I don't think it's necessary, but no harm if you did.
I think vent tubes are for the battery that is under a seat or under the floor board inside the car. My 2010 Traverse had a vent tube run from the battery to the outside.
Wanted to change the battery in my 17 TAHOE . Looked under the hood and was like wtf . So started the process . First I needed a special battery, a “ AGM “ . Got it at COSCO. $ 189 bucks . Then I watched this video . Glad I did, took out a lot of confusion under the hood. Start to finish 25 minutes … one bit of advice if you have a step Stool available use it .. 12 inches makes a big difference. The vehicle is pretty high up. And at 6”1 I still needed it .. thanks !!
