Excellent video. Just did this on my 2018 Silverado and all I can say is I’m glad I was in the comfort of my garage vs. in a dark parking lot somewhere or on the side of the road. Definitely more involved than what I think it should be for a battery replacement.
Thank you! Definitely would be annoying to do stranded somewhere.
I always have a small toolkit but now I need to make sure I have dedicated tools that I know will get this job on the road. Mainly enough extensions to reach down but wow that's involved for a battery change.
GM certainly could have designed this easier in my opinion.
They should could have! Maybe just use the front corner as the primary location.
@@TheSundaeDrive Exactly right. I changed mine out a little over a year ago and didn't realize how much time it would take. I was able to just loosen the screws on my overflow for the antifreeze and get the old battery out and the new in. I bought a 7 year battery so I wouldn't have to worry about it for awhile. I keep my vehicles for around 15-20 years before I purchase another one due to the high cost of vehicles. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
@@MrRGiller definitely a good plan and I'm the same way! Merry Christmas to you and yours as well!
It’s a pain😂
My ford is worse honestly
I got a 2003 Chevy Silverado and it runs perfect but the the body’s shot and few other things I’m definitely gonna subscribe and watch you guys the Next couple weeks
Wow this is first video I have seen where they figured out that coolant tank can be moved out of the way to get battery out. I would use bungee cords to hold out of way if didn’t have a helper to hold it
Glad this helped!
I’m glad watched this before trying to fight it out with the coolant reservoir. Heading to auto zone rt now! 😁
Ditto LOL
Good overview - thanks. Where'd you get that blacked out grill insert for your Silverado?
You don't have to touch the coolant reservoir. Look at other videos showing that you rotate the battery and pull it forward and then up and out.
I'll check that out. Thank you!
Yea, I did just that... this guy makes great videos but to anyone watching... its absolutely not necessary to unbolt the coolant reservoir.
1/13/24. Had to use your video to help me remove this dang thing. Luckily I ran across your video. I used it followed every step and voila. This thing is way more complicated than it should be. You did make a comment about how nice that Gm put that cushion on the cross bar to help reduce the pain of you accidentally hit it. But,that may be true. But what else is true. Is that they totally screwed us the way they put this battery in that position. Anyway,Thank you for doing that video. I truly appreciate it and you. 👊🏽🤓👍🏽
Hey I know this isn't the correct video but since it's your most recent one I'm commenting her for visibility.
I'm looking for a 6L80 "Billet" converter. My 2015 is in desperate need of a converter and I've heard from multiple people that this is the one to get. I saw you said that it was linked in the appropriate video but the link provided does not seem to be the correct TC. I'm not very knowledgeable on all of this in general so maybe there's something I'm missing..
How to fix or reset theses issues the passenger side window and power mirror and showing service several issues and the radio is in the off and the select on steering wheel will not work?
Can you do a video on the head gasket replacement on the 2014 several Silverado
We have a video with a full engine build on my truck that shows installing the head gasket :)
Very informative video but what I don't understand is why non of the videos show you the clip that detaches the the top off the battery if it is difficult to video you can show it after you all ready popped it open. 🤷♂️
Haven't seen a video on your truck lately. How is it holding up and the transmission?
Holding up well! More videos coming soon. Been busy at the shop on customer cars so I never get to work on mine lol
You should’ve went a little further and added the relearning process after installing the battery…my 2015 Silverado had to relearn
I also added a 2nd battery (2 yellow top’s)for other accessories like a winch and lights
What did you have to relearn? My truck seems to retain most things except fuel history and some radio settings. How hard was it adding the 2nd battery? I kind of would like to make a video showing how to do it.
@@TheSundaeDrive RPM’s jumping around, steering wheel turn clockwise/counterclockwise, windows would go up and then come back down halfway, minor things, tire pressure monitor, direction reset after driving around, I searched RUclips how to relearn
It was pretty simple adding the 2nd battery, Keyline 12V 140 amp dual battery isolator kit, 2 fuses, 2nd battery…just got to remember to put the ground from 2nd batteries through the Chevy ground loop next to original battery
I sent a picture on instagram to you of relearn process
@@pjyurick11-19 thanks! I will check that out :) wonder if that is why my rpms have been jumpy 🤔 theyve been doing that for a long time tho so probably something else. I will check it out tho! Didn't have any of the other issues you mentioned tho
The GM engineers that designed that should be FIRED!!!
it is a bit annoying lol
what happened to the good ol days when the battery was right in front of you and removed with a couple of straps...omg
They sure are making a simple battery replacement much more difficult in newer vehicles these days. Almost as bad as the evaporator and heater cores.
Not quite that bad lol. But a lil more work that necessary for sure.
You gotta be fing ,kidding 😂😂😂😂
Changing the alternator is easier than Changing the battery in these models 🤣😂
Lol idk, my alternator was stuck tight when I pulled the engine for AFM.
You don't have to remove the reservoir.
I did mine w/o removing it. I put in a 52lb H7 AGM battery...and man let me tell you I'd have been better off removing it. Getting the old battery out wasn't too bad but getting the new one in was a royal pain.
I had to do this by myself in an AutoZone parking lot with my 2015 Silverado it was a pain GM definitely could’ve designed this better
That stinks :( definitely not the easiest battery change
*promosm* 👌
Thanks!
GM went luxury German 🤦♂️
Lol
GM, this is not even stupid...
A little snug of a fit for the battery for sure.
Come on, you’re a big strong guy you can get that big battery out, awesome video my guy what a mess for a simple thing
Lol it is more of a pain than it should be
Why did gm make this such a pain in the ass???
So much room in there so I have no idea lol
At the 5 minute mark, I was convinced... Ford did this better.
Definitely dumb
@TheSundaeDrive like a lot of things.... you set up with necessary tools and just start going at it. Got mine done last weekend, took about 30 minutes. I appreciate the video, it helped.
Fire that damn camera man
SHAME-ON GM FOR MAKING THAT DIFFICULT‼️🤬
Agreed!
This why I hate my GMC. My Dodge Ram was way better. On top of that the Dodge has a much smoother ride.
Incompetent engineers designed this battery piece of junk.
