  • The Headwaters of the Nueces River is situated here on the western edge of the Texas Hill Country. This location is just south of Camp Wood in Uvalde County along Texas , Highway 55. The Hill Country River Region is composed of impressive canyons (for Texas) and crystal clear spring fed streams and rivers that eventually make their way to the Gulf of Mexico. The Nueces flows 315 Miles from its headwaters north of the location in this video to the Ocean in Corpus Christi, Texas.

    It's a hard thing to say which is the most beautiful river in the hill country but the nueces is definitely a gem indeed.

      I agree, they’re all so beautiful it’s hard to choose just one. Luckily they’re all within a reasonable distance from each other!

    I love that area! Almost headed up there the day after you did, but decided to go to Bandera and Medina instead. A little closer.

    What time of year? We camped beneath those Spanish oaks, they're always green, drop leaves in January. Camp Wood, Texas. Showers, bath rooms, and Saturday night dances. Cross the hill and find LEAKY,(pronounced lakey), GARNER STATE PARK.

    Do you know the name of the campground next to the dam by any chance?

    How can you access it? Is it possible to put a canopy up out there?

    • @cyclingtexas1670
      @cyclingtexas1670  Год назад

      There’s a low water crossing under the highway where you can park. The only place to see up a canopy would be on the low water crossing. Everything else is water.

    Any signs of alligators or crocs?

      No, definitely no alligators this far upstream. Water is pristine and I would imagine too cold for gators

    Just went this past weekend with my 2 daughters &&& unfortunately people don’t pick up their trash and the water was way murkier than this, along with broken bottles and dirty baby diapers, I drove 2 hours to get there and was highly disappointed. I WISH PEOPLE WOULD REALIZE HOW MUCH THEY DAMAGE NATURE WHEN THEY DECIDE TO BE LAZY 😢

    • @cyclingtexas1670
      @cyclingtexas1670  Год назад

      How unfortunate. Was due to drought? Lower water flow could make it not crystal clear. Or lots of people stirring the ground up can make it murky while they’re playing in the water. There’s no excuses for the trash. People are awful. They leave trash everywhere. No respect for the natural beauty

      @@cyclingtexas1670 It was absolutely low for sure, so im positive that contributed to the murkiness of the water, but the amount of broken beer/wine bottles and trash was UNREAL, ive never been somewhere with such beauty that people disrespect in that way. I explore all over the Tx hill country and this was by far the dirtiest of places, I was so upset that i only had 1 trash bag because my daughters and I filled it up just cleaning up around the spot we were in within the first hour of being there. We did enjoy the beauty of the river, and the girls did get to ride the small rapids downstream but i refused to let them take off their shoes because people just DO NOT CARE enough and it is really sad how something that was once soooooo beautiful could be so destroyed by trash. Im planning on taking another trip out there midweek just to try and gather as much trash as possible because I would love to see this place as beautiful as it once was. Its a damn shame my 3 & 4 yr old knew better than most of the families that left before us and left their piles of trash behind. One family had a newborn and left about 7-8 dirty diapers behind, both of my girls were very upset 😢 & i had to tell them that some people just really don’t care about nature/Mother Earth like we do. I loved the video and appreciate you sharing because Im always looking for new spots to explore, and this helped tremendously.

      @@Changedlife210 what a shame, especially since this is definitely the most beautiful river I’ve seen in the hill Country. I haven’t been to any of the rivers recently though due to the drought and lack of sufficient water flow.
      Local Law Enforcement should step up enforcement in this area concerning littering.
