Kayking and fishing the crystal clear waters of the Nueces River

- The rivers of the Texas Hill Country are famous for their clear water. The Nueces is one of the prettiest. It's not too crowded, not over-fished, and is relatively close to San Antonio. This was my third trip out north of Uvalde to kayak and fish. I found a little honey hole where the fish are hungry and you can see clear to the bottom.

Fish there every year in april. We are getting ready this weekend and preping the kayaks. Live oak Creek is good fishing as well. we know a lot of spots down there

I just got back from a week long trip there. We stayed right on the river just off of CR411. My cousin owns a 2 story house there. We Kayaked, Fished and Swam. I fly fished mostly. It was some fantastic fishing. The only negative to using the fly rod. The Blue Gill would usually take the fly before the bass had a chance. Still, I caught tons of Bass.
It's a great river! A friend and I took a trip from the 55 bridge down to CR 405 a few weeks ago. Took us all day. It was amazing! Did you catch any Rio Grande Cichlid? We saw a ton of them while we were out there, but none of them would bite. Bass galore, though!
@lalelandadventures The Cichlids only seemed interested in protecting their territory from everything, whether it was a bait or a fish 4 time their size. One kept running out and attacking a giant blue catfish. My son and grandson had some hit their bates because they were using spinnerbaits. They never hit my fly. I guess they didn't feel threatened by anything floating on the surface. Maybe they were spawning or something.

Do you still needing kayaking buddies
I am taking my kayak to Wes Cooksey Park this week to fish. I am 100% Saltwater experience; any advice with lures and technique would be greatly appreciated.
I always have good luck with soft plastics - pumpkin seed worms with chartreuse tails are my go to(Texas rigged) but I also had a lot of bites this past weekend on green wacky rigged worms. That park may be fished more than the little hole I go to, though. Good luck, and thanks for watching!
If you don’t mind me asking where are you parking / getting into the river to start or where are some good general areas
There are several road crossings along or just off SH 55 starting about 10 miles north of Uvalde and going all the way up to Barksdale. You'll be able to see where other people have parked on the sides of the roads or under bridges, just make sure you aren't trespassing.
