Beautiful morning in Corpus Christi & Port Aransas, Texas on Mustang Island. I started the day from access road 2 and driving up to the pier in Port A. The sunrise and conditions were perfect.
Later I went back down the island to Access Road 3 and and took a swim.

    I’m a roadie from north west Rhode Island. Just moved to SA for work, right near the Rim too! RI, MA, CT has a TON of Mtb trail and quiet back roads. I’m seeing a few mtb places down in the Leon Creek greenway but not too much opportunity for road riding, and every bike I’ve seen so far has a light on it, is that a law or just the norm down there? Can you please tell me what the cycling scene is like? Helmets, lights, cars vs cycling in a kit, police, etc. Is it worth it to bring a road bike down or should I just bring my everyday franken-gravel bike and call it a day?

    • @cyclingtexas1670
      @cyclingtexas1670 3 дня назад

      There’s far more Road opportunities than MTB in SA. You live by the rim which is great since your right at the edge of the Hill Country! As long as you’re comfortable with road riding then the opportunities are literally endless. The vast majority of cars are respectful and give you space. Police always are friendly as long as you ride responsibly. I believe the law is reflectors or lights. Lights just provide better visibility which is better when road riding. Bring your road bike. By the Rim good roads are Babcock outside of 1604, Scenic Loop, Boerne Stage, Cielo Vista.

Its weird as the Apache and Alazan hydrologically are superior to the San Pedro that they insist on calling that section from the river walk to Alazan/Apache trails, the San Pedro Creek. What I want is the Zarzamora trail to connect up into Leon Valley or at least a street bike lane to get to the Ingram trail... its such a let down to ride that trail for it to die at NW 36th between Culebra and Commerce.

    Pretty cool, does it ride pretty well?

    • @gorrdd
      @gorrdd 3 месяца назад

      Indeed it does. Very smooth and silent on gear changes. The frame is incredible stiff... no flex in the bottom bracket. Same with the stem and forks. When you do a static drop, everything on the bike has that slight higher pitched buzz rather than a lower pitched hum, typical of a cheaper made bike. And this is their entry level folder. It comes with Schwalbe Big Apple 2" tires that have less roll resistance, at the same tire pressure, than a 1.5" tire. Apparently, bigger tires with enough pressure maintain less road surface contact, than narrower tires that must compress more on contract. This bike certainly rolls along as effortlessly as the best I've ever ridden in the past. This folder is only 25 lbs. The seat is also very well designed. But my butt isn't... yet! It's getting better after a 100+ miles on the first week. I need a second bike and am thinking of a somewhat similar Tern Link S8I. It has an internal 8 speed hub that is geared for all inclines, both up and down. The drive train is a notched carbon belt. It needs no lubrication whatsoever and together with the sealed 8 speed hub, that also requires no lubrication, is eerily quiet and smooth. The system is totally maintenance free except for replacing the belt, after so many thousands of miles. And the weight of the drive and hub is only about a quarter of the weight of a chain and derailleur system. A really great development... but it's pricey at around $2200. I paid $850 for my Tern Link C8. Gord

    • @gorrdd
      @gorrdd 3 месяца назад

      @@cyclingtexas1670 Yeah... if you have that issue then it would be a great benefit to you. It only takes about 10-15 seconds to fold and unfold.. I bought a front bag for the handlebars to put necessary stuff like spare tubes, tools, and pump and a few accessories for cleaning etc. Getting that bag on and off takes longer than folding or unfolding. The folder has a compact magnetic clip system that holds the two wheels together when folded so that it doesn't open up unintended. Because it uses a 20" wheel, rather than a 27" wheel, it folds up small. Consequently, the seat post is long with an adjustable quick release that collapses the seat and post all the way down. The bottom of the seatpost serves as the third leg of a stool. The other two supporting legs are the wheels folded together, but a few inches apart. The bike stands alone folded, without further support. The handlebar stem is also long and folds down as well. In it's folded position there is a small rubber belt strap on the frame that holds the stem security in place. Lastly, the pedals have a quick release that allows them to fold up or down. That's four folds and one extension to deal with. They designed it in such a way that the flex in the shifter and brake cables doesn't effect their performance. Once unfolded everything works perfectly without any further adjustment. Both the brakes and the derailleur work perfectly.... excellent performance from both. Gord
