For some reason the first and second Dr, Who intros are my favorite even though it's black and white ... to be honest i never really watched the show hardly except for the intro ... there must've been reruns in the 70s because i remember seeing it on TV when i was a young kid ... for the longest time the color versions didn't look like color because we still had a B+W TV! Craig Ferguson did a Dr. Who tribute on the late late show and despite it being fairly corny the sound of the music itself was done very well especially when you compare it to the original themes!
I love the Capaldi intros, especially for that one episode where they swapped his and Jenna's names and showed her eyes instead of his, such a cool touch to reflect the storyline.

@@Selzor I was not much of a fan of Keff’s loud and overpowering incidental music… and not much of a fan of his rendition of the theme either. Now if you want to hear and see a cool version, look up a group called Arc Attack. There really is no substitute for seeing them live.
Tom Baker was my Doctor Who. Our Grade 4 Teacher made a deal with the class if we all finished our work, Friday afternoons, the last hour of school, we could watch the Doctor. The theme song is probably one of the last things I’ll hear before I die. 😝
For me, Patrick Troughton's intro is the best. The way the feedback (if that's what it is) peels outward to reveal a smiling yet enigmatic Doctor's face along with the introduction of a fuller sound with spangles and rippling effects make this title sequence the best for me.Though some of the nineteen seventies versions with the split screen effects were close.
first ones were the trippiest, no contest but for my money, Matt Smith's remain the best: energetic, pumping, epic, all around amazing. Best Doctor and best intro in my opinion
A few missing ones: - The Troughton titles with Hartnell theme from season 4 - The Pertwee titles with Troughton theme heard variously in season 8 - The brown "Ark In Space" titles - The "Five Doctors" titles with music from the single version, rather than TV version - The "Time and the Rani" part 4 with different McCoy face animation - The series 3 Tennant titles with original Eccleston music but new logo - "Voyage of the Damned" - The season 7a variants
If only Moffatt hadn’t started writing woke shit towards the end, which encouraged Chibnall’s run and then Davies 2nd run to be identity politic ridden disasters! 🤷🏼♂️

I love every doctor who tiles sequences because it makes me watch every doctor who story all the way through by the first doctor title sequence was used for the second doctor unit the Marco terror and I love vogue of the dam as well
Nothing is more evocative of absolute, abject terror than the sound of Doc 4's theme at 3:22 coming on the TV when I was seven years old when my mom would watch Dr. Who on WGBH out of Boston in the early '80s. Seeing Tom Baker's floating head on the screen and hearing that viscerally horrific music would set me to running and hiding instantly... but I would always come back to sneak a peek to see a Dalek or two! When I got older, my favorite version of the song would be Pink Floyd's, naught but a short tease of it in a live performance of their song One of These Days, but that scorching bassline always makes me explode in goosebumps
@@TheUncleshady Your memory is flawless, friend. WGBH was PBS's channel designation for channel 2 out of Boston. I was up in NH watching it. Back then we only got 2, 4, 5, 7 and a little bit of 25, 38, and 56. Those were the days ❤️
Nice stroll through memory lane. Tom Baker was my Dr. Who, although I believe by the time they were airing the Baker episodes here in the US, he had already departed the series.
Honestly, the TV movie theme at 6:50 just hits so well. The opening is just so optimistic and heroic, and then it goes into the main theme with a tinge of evil to it... just perfect :D
They rehash and remix the same part of the theme for a majority of the openings, but I think the opening at 1:47 is when we get more of the expanded theme. It’s very briefly heard in an opening before that, but it’s fading away. It’s then more in the forefront of the TV movie version you like. Don’t consider myself a fan, but know what I like and enjoy, and I do enjoy the premise and word of Dr Who.
Gotta say my favourites are the Trial of a Time Lord (second Sixth Doctor theme), the seventh doctor, nuwho season 4 and the 50th anniversary season. I love all the little Easter eggs in the 50th anniversary titles, little bits of every theme and every Doctor in there. And of course the return of THE FACE! The 12th Doctor theme is cool as well because I know it was the work of a fan, and I saw the fan-made version first, before the BBC asked to use his design.
Imagine being in front of your tv, a new tv show called "doctor who" got announced you already imagune what it looks like in your head and then you see the first intro
Matt Smith is my favourite Doctor, and his series 5 theme is so good. I like Jodie's theme as well. Really felt like a new vibe for a while new direction of the show. Shame it didn't work out, but let's see what 14 has in store for us.
The theme is majestic, they played it on the Doctor Who concert a few weeks ago but they released it officially yesterday I guess. We still have to wait until the specials release to see the full opening title
I adore and laughed out loud with happiness that you included Clara's opening when she tried to fool the Cybermen into believing she was The Doctor. It was such a great moment when they went from that declaration into the titles and it focused on her, I love it every time I rewatch the show. Thanks again!
For some reason the Doctor Who movie title sequence gave me chills. Maybe it's because it set the scene for how the title sequences are generally done today. Although Whittaker's title sequences are a bit different but still alright.
The first Doctor I ever saw as a kid on PBS was Baker - the fourth Doctor the original introduction. It was a repeat episode as the original appeared before I was born/watching TV. Also saw the 5th and 6th Doctor. Then I have only seen this occasionally. Recognized David Tennet's opening and Matt Smith's with Karen Gillian. Guess that is all I have seen over the years.
The first arrangement is still the greatest when heard at full length but the repetitive outro to the titles used for Pertwee still sends shivers down my spine.
My father passed in April. He was a huge Doctor Who fan and now I'm getting into it in spades. I only wish he was still alive for me to grill him with every episode I watch. (Watching from the beginning)
At 16:00 I remember what they said about this test at the beginning. "Oh my god that simply won't do... that's terrifying!" Or something similar along the lines.
Then Troughton's rendition happened, his intro used to terrify the shit out of me as a kid (probably because of the B&W and fact that he looks like he's about to jump out of the television at you).
@@saltheirishgit Hey, I mean, at least he's face was far less terrifying than the other guy's face which looked more like the 1950's devil. LMAO!!! XDDDDD
@@IsiniaMosienko Honestly valid, imagine seeing that instead of the intro they released. Let’s just say I don’t imagine Doctor Who lasting as long as it had if they did (though maybe if they used Hartnell instead of a random tester, it might have worked more and been less terrifying but I guess we’ll never know)
3.30 will always be 'the real' Dr Who start for me. I remember it even though I was very young. I always considered the guy in the Cricket jumper as 'new'.

I'm actually amazed how the titles and music changed over the years. As a kid of the 1960s, my first Doctor Who was Patrick Troughton, and my last was Silvester McCoy, because I couldn't take him seriously after his funny high-speed capers in 'Vision On' and 'Take Hart'.
The 13th (Jodie's) is so good; it's just such a shame we didn't see it for very long. It went back to the trippy, sci-fi synth vibe, away from the orchestral versions (which are still good) but fit more with the show theme IMO.
I remember when the 4th doctor's theme changed to that energetic and exciting version for 4,5, and the first season of 6. I loved the change. With so many Tom Baker episodes, I had gotten so tired of the old version and the visuals seemed dated. However, the visuals for John Pertwee's last season were really cool.
The later ones are just WAY too busy visually and the music sometimes has strings, piano, or other non-electronic instruments. Dr Who theme should be bass heavy with a driving rhythm, have an ominous synth atmosphere, and include a soaring guitar solo. Don't over complicate things.
For me, the Tom Baker episodes will always be the iconic Doctor Who. I guess that's because those were the first episodes I remember being aired in the United States.
Delia Derbyshire played her original arrangement for the composer Ron Grainer. "Did I write that?" he asked. "Mostly" she said. He'd given her a rhythm and a melody, along with some descriptive words like "sound clouds" and "swoops". She did the rest.
Being born in 1961 means that I have been growing up with Doctor Who! I remember watching some of the William Hartnell series, but couldn't tell you whether it was any of their original airings or repeats. I started losing interest during the latter part of the Peter Davison era (discovering motorcycles, beer and girls...😊) ...I do always remember when I was young though, hiding behind the sofa when the Daleks appeared... 😅
Thanks for this. Matt Smith"s first theme is my favourite by a mile. It was brilliant for a new, young Doctor. I really like the new one in 2023. It reminds me a bit of 11's one.
Being in my early years and starting with and still remembering Tom Baker (fun fact..do you know he was a Scouser and a Monk who had a vow of silence before taking up acting) up to the next few Doctors, from the the start the intro music through each generatation and knowing when these shows were aired, even thogh revamped is still ahead of its time for each season.
I started watching when Tom Baker was the Doctor, then stopped watching near the last few episodes of Matt Smith. Looking forward to watching again now that David Tennant is back!
*When one is Team Tom Baker and has ONLY seen Tom Baker Who (and a bit of the newer ones)* Bookmarked this masterpiece to watch over and over from time to time
My goodness I did not understand that Tom Baker is so early in the shows history I thought it went from him to the newer ones like eccleston Time warp the first 4th doctor intro is the only one I had seen before today

@@Selzor I was not much of a fan of Keff’s loud and overpowering incidental music… and not much of a fan of his rendition of the theme either. Now if you want to hear and see a cool version, look up a group called Arc Attack. There really is no substitute for seeing them live.
Yea, I didn't like Time and the Rani, but hearing this version for the first time was a huge deal for me.
Loved this one as a kid. So distinctive compared to the other arrangements
Tom Baker was my Doctor Who.
Our Grade 4 Teacher made a deal with the class if we all finished our work, Friday afternoons, the last hour of school, we could watch the Doctor.
The theme song is probably one of the last things I’ll hear before I die. 😝
I still love the older ones best. The key change (or whatever it is) just gets me in the throat every time.
I grew up with 9th-11th Doctor. These bring back my childhood memories 😍
first ones were the trippiest, no contest but for my money, Matt Smith's remain the best: energetic, pumping, epic, all around amazing. Best Doctor and best intro in my opinion
A few missing ones:
- The Troughton titles with Hartnell theme from season 4
- The Pertwee titles with Troughton theme heard variously in season 8
- The brown "Ark In Space" titles
- The "Five Doctors" titles with music from the single version, rather than TV version
- The "Time and the Rani" part 4 with different McCoy face animation
- The series 3 Tennant titles with original Eccleston music but new logo
- "Voyage of the Damned"
- The season 7a variants

7:35 and McGann's TV movie... I LOVE the piano run down that it has here. So damn good. Wish another theme had incorporated it or something like it.

Haha, bro are you me? Hearing that goddamn theme song as a kid... in Boston.... but I thought it was on PBS? My memory isn't great. Channel 2?
@@TheUncleshady Your memory is flawless, friend. WGBH was PBS's channel designation for channel 2 out of Boston. I was up in NH watching it. Back then we only got 2, 4, 5, 7 and a little bit of 25, 38, and 56. Those were the days ❤️
@@professorlegacy channel 38 was great for Sox games, but as a kid I was glued to channel 56. Thanks for the trip back in time.
Glad I wasn’t the only one thinking that its always been my lowkey favorite
And when the drums come in, total bop.
to be honest I really love 2005 to davids exit 7.52 to 9.41 then went completely wrong
It just feels different from the others somehow. It's got a bombastic feel that befits an American production.
I can confirm that it was truly terrifying. Nothing like it on the TV in the early 60s. The later Gay Dr Who intros from the 80s onwards were 🩲
Seeing all these Dr Who themes has been so exciting. Thank you very very much.
Fun fact: the titles for the peter capaldi era were based off of a fan made doctor who title sequence.
That explains why they suck so much.
@@Zero_Ninetythe fan intro is actually phenomenal, they butcherd itb😭

This ^ - its the electronic squeal at the beginning - great lead in...
Plus the urgency. I feel like I'm in there! Lol This is a fun one.
Three Dr who played marvel villians and one a DC villian
14 is David Tennant the absolute god he is haha can't wait for him to be his usual self

I adore and laughed out loud with happiness that you included Clara's opening when she tried to fool the Cybermen into believing she was The Doctor. It was such a great moment when they went from that declaration into the titles and it focused on her, I love it every time I rewatch the show. Thanks again!
Clara was my most hated character. The actress is awesome but she annoyed the heck out of me
@@Angelicwings1 I liked her fine with 11, but with 12 and Danny Pink, it sort of became "The Clara Show" and I didn't appreciate that so much.
Thank you for fixing the synchrony in the 12th Doctor's opening. Really appreciate it!
13:13 I love this intro. I can just imagine the doctor on guitar 🎸Visually, I love Peter Capaldi intros as well.
Don’t know if you’re aware, but the guitar riff used in that title sequence was actually played by Peter Capaldi!
It's too bad we only got this used once because it's absolutely awesome
I absolutely was in love with the new theme, and title sequence. It's like a modernized version of the 1963 William hartnell era.
6:00 the creation of modern Doctor who opening sequences.
People at BBC wow we can do a 3d now
Who else noticed how they made the out of sync titles from Capaldi in sync in this video? I like that!
One of the most epic themes ever made it will stand the test of time
My father passed in April. He was a huge Doctor Who fan and now I'm getting into it in spades. I only wish he was still alive for me to grill him with every episode I watch. (Watching from the beginning)
Doctor who is the only show I don’t skip the intro
I have never skipped the “Bottom” and “Stranger Things” intros either…
At 16:00 I remember what they said about this test at the beginning. "Oh my god that simply won't do... that's terrifying!" Or something similar along the lines.
i was confused on that title sequence until i realized it could have been a test title sequence
Let’s just say I don’t imagine Doctor Who lasting as long as it had if they did (though maybe if they used Hartnell instead of a random tester, it might have worked more and been less terrifying but I guess we’ll never know)
basically all the 80s one, they gave the designer some special effects buttons and some crack cocaine.

Matt Smith's lightning strikes opening is still my personal favourite. Brilliant.
They really ramped up who's goofiness to an intolerable degree in that era.
There's so many capaldi ones.
And they are beautiful, except the out-of-sync.

Tom Baker, in my opinion, is the quintessential Doctor.
"The definite article, you might say."
I love the many variations of the theme music over the years
You forgot the golden baker sequence from "The Ark in Space", but still amazing XD
I always liked the Pertwee version of the theme with the stutter on the beginning.
Glynn's theme was utterly amazing.
MrFlibberGibbet FitzWidget who is Glynn?
Dominic Glynn. He arranged the theme at 5:13. It didn't last long.
Me too; Tom's doctor will always be the first to me because his was the first I'd seen on TV.
Love to see a few "Caretaker" episodes....
Remember that theme has been around for 60 years in some form or another including "Doctoring the Tardis" Surely Ron Grainer must get an award for it!
I started losing interest during the latter part of the Peter Davison era (discovering motorcycles, beer and girls...😊)
...I do always remember when I was young though, hiding behind the sofa when the Daleks appeared... 😅
