I think the Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker ones were the best. It's trippy, eccentric stuff that we do best. Heath Robinson in some ways, but so effective. The wink that Sylvester McCoy gives is so reassuring, especially after Colin's slightly sinister grin, though lovely Colin was done wrong.
For me it gets a little repetitive over time, which while i respect your opinion ive gotta go with peter’s title sequence (yes, i know tom baker was first but that was only for season 19)
My personal favourite is the Whittaker one. It's abstract, mysterious, the bass drop grabs your attention and it gets you ready for the adventure ahead. Say what you will about said adventures but it's a great title sequence. The runners are are McCoy's titles, Tom Baker's first titles and the Matt Smith first titles
I'd love a cold open where the doctor is escaping something following him in the vortex, and the usual into is intercut with him frantically flying about the tardis pulling switches and levers with sparks and smoke, all while the intro is still playing, cutting back and forth between the intro and the doctor
The new 2023 intro is just astonishing! The new music score, the new camera effects, and the return of the old-style with the TARDIS being flipped through a vortex.
I now most people don’t like it. But honestly, my favorite intro is the series 7b one. I think it’s a nice mix of the modern more action oriented intros with the more psychedelic imagery of the older intros. Also the music is a bop.
I adore how Peter's showed gears and the galaxy to emphasize "time and space" while also bringing back the part of classic theme songs where the current doctor's face appears in the theme song (that was actually brought back in Matt Smith's second intro before Jodie removed it)
Wish they had kept the end bit of the latest intro for this video, instead of cutting out early. Music's not done and the title wasn't shown yet, why the rush now after not doing that for all the other intros?
9:32 why is no one talking about Capaldi's intro? It sounds pretty damn good but the visuals are some of the best. His eyes appearing as part of the stars is the coolest way of showing the doctor's face so far.
I brought up my daughter on Dr Who. And I'm a doctor too (only in engineering sadly. But I have designed satellites!) Anyway, I was driving her back from school about 13 years ago and we were listening to Radio 4. The Dr Who theme tune came on and my seven year old little girl laughed and said "It's Delia Derbyshire! And the BBC Radiophonic Workshop!" She's now 20, and off saving the planet, but seriously she was a cool kid.
I think the ecclston theme, used by tennant as well, were the best. There’s something classical about violins, they’re a nice bridge to more electronic styles and lent an air of caution, even threat to the intro. The Doctor is after all a super hero who fights villains.
First one: looks like a roar shack test Second one: same but with Moe Howard from the Three stooges Third one it has color going through light speed Fourth: going through ludicrous speed Fifth: kicking and screaming into the 80's Sixth: slowly looking like the Muppets with that smile Seventh: direct to video 80's music video Eight: movie quality but the logo is walking away Nine through eleven: the TARDIS forgot something and had to make a u turn Twelfth: looks like it's actually going through time and space Thirteenth: someone has seen Doctor Strange
I mean he looked into the time vortex when he started hearing it, I know that was sent by the time lords to escape the time lock, but... maybe time just sounds like that?
I absolutely ADORE the visuals for Ncuti's opening. The addition of the piano is also sooo good. I love them all so much but they all just seem to be getting better.

You literally see different graphic design eras in this.
I love that the diamond logo and score from Tom Baker's first intro has returned, it's iconic.
This logo was been for time 3 doctor John Pertwee
Moffatt dropped the ball on "Night of the Doctor". McGann should have gotten a special opening.
He did get one.
I love the new one. It brings back the joy and swashbuckling excitement from the original RTD era.
My top 3 are:
2008
2023
1980
For me my top 3 are
2010-2012
2023-incumbents
1981-1984
The first four themes from Hartnell to Baker will always be the best.
5th season at 8:23 will always be my favorite purely because the theme song kicks ass.
2:19 Man, hyperspace is always so freaky
That’s not Season 5.
@@DrWhoFanJseason 5 of NuWho
@@averagedelusionenjoyer New Who does not have seasons.
@@DrWhoFanJ it most certainly does.
2:40 New showrunner John Nathan-Turner telegraphing to the audience in very clear terms: BIG changes coming, better get comfortable with it.
Matt Smith's intros are the best for me, they fit so well with the overall stories being told compared to the rest
Can we take a minute to appreciate how well the enviornmental text has improved over the years?
10:05 is my favorite! It really sells the vastness, darkness and mystery of the cosmos. And it's not too long either
8:23 first time hearing this in years, literal chills going through my body.
Classics always rule , electronic themes always the best
This tune, in all of its iterations, is icon and produces goosebumps and excitement!
and having the doctor appear in the opening was always a treat too
Tom Baker's title sequence is unparalleled
shut up tom baker is overrated
@@TowerDemolisher23 Agree to disagree
@@TowerDemolisher23everyone can be wrong sometimes, you shouldn't take pride in that one my dear.

@@dashtoroya2838 Alright, I'm sorry Cheesus Crust
For me it gets a little repetitive over time, which while i respect your opinion ive gotta go with peter’s title sequence (yes, i know tom baker was first but that was only for season 19)
10:34 - this title sequence first appeared in The Star Beast NOT The Giggle.
Also on a livestream for 'Best Bits' they said _The Family of Blood_ was from Series 7 getting confused with 2007.
Editor's had a mare 😭
It's not showing when the title sequence first appeared though. It's stating the episode they took it from.
@@YoungButRetroThat's the point, they did first appearance for every other title sequence on here.
I was thinking that too
The title sequence has always been revolutionary. Fantastic.
The 2006-2009, 2010-2012 and the new one are my favourites. The music and the title sequences are so amazing and iconic. They stick with me the most.
2005 not 2006
I was waiting for this!
These openings are ahead of their time
I like the motif of them going through a wormhole, I like that they brought that back
My favourites are TV Movie (1996), Tennant (14th Doctor - 2023), Ncuti Gatwa (2023), Sylvester McCoy (1987) and Baker (1986).
Yeah, my problem was that it didn’t really fit the era. I’ve always felt it fit Capaldi’s darker era better than the more light hearted Whittaker one
Be careful. That's a forbidden opinion in this fandom.
I totally agree. Freshest take since Bakers second version of the theme.
I find it too bleak and depressing personally
@@alexhodgkinson6718 ??? How can that evoke those emotions at all???
I'd love a cold open where the doctor is escaping something following him in the vortex, and the usual into is intercut with him frantically flying about the tardis pulling switches and levers with sparks and smoke, all while the intro is still playing, cutting back and forth between the intro and the doctor
My... god...
I love how the newest one really brings back everything that made these title sequences cool.
the 80's themes go so hard. i have so much nostalgia associated with the 2005 theme tho.
3:47 is the version that got the most out of the original radiophonic style. 5:36 throws most of it away
The new 2023 intro is just astonishing! The new music score, the new camera effects, and the return of the old-style with the TARDIS being flipped through a vortex.
Delia Derbyshire did a great job
0:12 my favourite Opening
I now most people don’t like it. But honestly, my favorite intro is the series 7b one. I think it’s a nice mix of the modern more action oriented intros with the more psychedelic imagery of the older intros. Also the music is a bop.
1:44 that noise needs to be studied! Perfection
I adore how Peter's showed gears and the galaxy to emphasize "time and space" while also bringing back the part of classic theme songs where the current doctor's face appears in the theme song (that was actually brought back in Matt Smith's second intro before Jodie removed it)
My favourite intros for Doctor Who are the 1984 and 2011 versions.
I'm old......I know all these sequences, saw them the first time on a television set, apart from the new ones, which I streamed. 😁❤️
2:40 hits hard
It's so sploinky😂
I’d never heard of doctor who before my mom brought home the reboot season, and this house has never been the same since
I brought up my daughter on Dr Who.
I absolutely love david, matt and peters themes and visuals
Interesting to note that Paul McGann's intro inspired the following ones.
8:23 honestly my favourite
08:23 my favourite intro
Who else smiles whenever you hear this theme, whichever version?
Nine, Ten and Eleven had the best intros. Those are the ones from my childhood and teenage years and I will love them forever!
Epic Doctor Who. Love it Forever!!!
First one: looks like a roar shack test
Second one: same but with Moe Howard from the Three stooges
Third one it has color going through light speed
Fourth: going through ludicrous speed
Fifth: kicking and screaming into the 80's
Sixth: slowly looking like the Muppets with that smile
Seventh: direct to video 80's music video
Eight: movie quality but the logo is walking away
Nine through eleven: the TARDIS forgot something and had to make a u turn
Twelfth: looks like it's actually going through time and space
Thirteenth: someone has seen Doctor Strange
How many Cameramen have perished filming the TARDIS flying through the time vortex?
None. It's the same guy each time, he just regenerates
Plot twist: the CAMERAMAN is the Timeless Child.
None the cameraman is op
None, they just send in Captain Jack every time they need a new intro😂😂.
@@peteregressy6515 *Captain Jack clinging to the TARDIS* "DocTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR!!!!"
The scariest and most unhinged (hot take: best dressed and most underrated?!?!) doctor even gets a creepy uncanny smile animated into his intro
Honestly the 1963 one will always be my favorite.
it is beautiful, especially when you consider how it was made completely with practical effects
They should really add the christmas and rock versions of the 12th doctor´s theme with the next updated version.
Hold on…did they fix the disappearing ring issue of the Capaldi era intro 😮
You forgot the Matt smith one where the flames are blue
0:12 where it all started.
This show stands the test of time and it will for so many years to come
the beats of the openings are the four beats that the master says are in his mind, the heartbeats of a time lord
I mean he looked into the time vortex when he started hearing it, I know that was sent by the time lords to escape the time lock, but... maybe time just sounds like that?
9:31 peter capaldis was my favorite
I know there's a lot of hate for the movie, but watching it back in 2024, I kinda like it. Also 2005-2007 and 2008-2010 are my fav
Thanks for the like
I like the movie as well, it's not perfect but it's a unique take with an innocent, fun attitude to it
I absolutely ADORE the visuals for Ncuti's opening. The addition of the piano is also sooo good. I love them all so much but they all just seem to be getting better.
5:35
I love this so much because I can picture it as the moment when the darkness seems to be closing in, but here comes the Doctor in the TARDIS driving the darkness back.
I like the 60th sequence with the TARDIS surfing through the different time tunnels
