CaptainAwesome might be the nicest compliment I got since my dad said Poppy your as strong as a mule and nearly as smart, if someone offers you a ride go with them. Thank You Brother so very nice of you!!!😃
K LoLo I might just do that, usually I had to learn things the hard way. A lot of folks are born smart, Not me. But if I don’t get that video done, I’ll just say be kind to everyone, don’t think your better than anyone else and always try to be a servant to others. Sometimes we’re so determined to find fault, we miss the beauty.
Thanks Poppy , nice review you seem to have a pleasant and honest demeanor... I'm looking at a 2017 F-150 XLT with the 2.7 Ecoboost supercrew 2 wheel drive with 40,000miles... I'll be 70yrs.old in July and with Gods Grace , I pray it will last me till He calls me home. Thanks Poppy and God Bless you and your family ✝️🙏🇺🇸
I think you’ll like the 2.7, ain’t like when we was young, 6 meant slow they’ll scary and honestly 95% of the time around here all I need is 2wd. I’d look for 2018+ with the dual injection, a friend that is a car salesman said he’d sold one older customer his last 3 death trucks, you never know, but sounds to me like when He calls, your ready through the Blood of Christ to go, Just crossed my mind maybe a lease, new truck, half the payment, if your under 12k a year? I don’t like never owning either, but we ain’t taking these vehicles with us to Heaven and Thank You Sir for the compliment, I hope I live up to it,
All I need for sure!!!Ticked to death for you! Still surprised when I mash the throttle, if someone would have told me 25 years ago that a V6 would run this good I’d thought they was crazy!!!
Yeah me too. I definitely like it very much. Got the 2020 crew cab pretty similar to this one just in silver. Just wish it had stock LED’s kinda seems old school with the halogen headlights
Hope it's treating you well! My 18 2.7 had 25,000 miles on it in Feb of 2020. As of today, I have 101,914 with no issues. This has been a great truck, tows vehicles with no issues.
I just traded my 13 FX2 with the 35 eco-boost in it has 240,000 miles I had a catch can on it changed the oil religiously used nothing but Ford Oil Only issues I ever had in 240,000 miles under the hood I replaced the battery one coil pack and plugs every 30,000 miles and throttlebody still running original serpentine belt alternator everything else factory I just bought a 2020 with the 2.7 in it hoping to get the same reliability and this video helps reassure me thank you
Did you install the catch can while your truck was under warranty? I am waiting the arrival of a 2020 f150 with the 2.7L ecoboost and I was thinking about installing a catch can but wondering if it will void my warranty!
Darryl Williams Yes I did install a “do it yourself catch can” and to be honest I never needed my warranty and they never asked or said anything when I took it in for that transmission tuning recall
@@darrylwilliams2216 A catch can won't be needed on your 2020 as it has duel injectors, one to clean the valve the other into the cylinder. ('18 and up)
Thank you for this review. I just bought a 2021 XLT with the 2.7 liter engine. Never had an Ecoboost motor...Usually go for the V8, but had problems with a 2018 with the 5.0 with it using oil, so I decided to give this a try. I love it. After seeing your review and how good of luck you've had with it, makes me feel even better about it and know I made the right choice. Its perfect for me.
The 21’s starting to grow on me, , around here nearly none on the lots and not many on the roads, but congratulations on the truck, glad to hear a longtime V8 man likes the Ecoboost engine! Sorry about the problem with the 5.0, but dang they do sound good.
@@poppyneese1811 oh yes....the 5.0 sounds amazing for sure. I do miss that sound...Not sure if Ford has the problems worked out with them yet, but was afraid to chance it.
I hope your words are a fact my friend. You know I like the Ridgelines too, there pricey for me, but they are sharp, we have a 2014 CRV, hasn’t been as good as I hoped a Honda would be, but a lot of folks say 2014 wasn’t a banner year for Honda CRV’s
Great genuine video. I really enjoyed it. I also have a 2.7 ecoboost, 2016 302A package. I haven't had the first mechanical problem with current 63000 miles.
I’d love to compare my 2017 375 ft.lbs torque to your 400 ft. lbs engine. Plus the dual fuel system that keep the valves clean. Congratulations on that awesome lil engine snd truck friend, I agree 100% with you.
I have a 2019 with 2.7 as well. Love the truck, but not a fan of the transmission at low speeds...seems like it shifts rough at low speeds. Have you experienced that? Or should I just ask the dealership? Just wondering if they'll tell me it's "normal". My knowledge of cars is minimal at best, any input is appreciated!
Wow Poppy, now I feel guilty even looking at a new truck. My 1992 F-250 7.5L is still a joy to drive and I can't justify terrible gas milage for the sole reason of getting a new truck. I am truly torn. Oh yeah, I bought this rig off of an 86 yr old Grandmother who was tired of driving to Arizona every year towing a 32ft 5th-wheel. She had 73,500 miles exactly on the engine and she sold it to me for 2000 bucks plus manual labor of installing her new backyard lawn ... 50ft x 75ft. It was such a great deal that I mowed it once a week for a year ... she made awesome baked oatmeal squares with a teaspoon of brown sugar and hot half n half poured over the top. God Bless her for making those treats every time I came over and for making it affordable for my family and I to buy a travel trailer and seeing the open road!
Sounds like you got an awesome deal on a great truck, as long as the 92 runs good and is safe for you and the family, stick with her, would love to see you do a video on that truck. Plus it’s a 250, wondering was it her husbands truck originally, sounds like the old gal was a woman of many talents to me.I’ve heard out in Arizona steel bodies last forever, heck no don’t go in debt till you have to!
Big Texas that’s awesome, hope mine lasts and lasts, so far though really happy with this lil engine, have a son lives in Dallas, saws lot more Fords in Texas than around here, I’d say in WV GM leads Ford 10/6, just a guess.
@Mctrician2 That coworkers truck is still running strong with a 140k on it! It's his daily driver and he's had zero issues. Mine has 80k on it now and I couldn't be more pleased. 100,000 isn't very many miles but this is my first ford. I've always driven GM trucks and none of them went this long without costing me money in costly repairs.
Hey Poppy! A real good video. I’m seventy four years young and I just traded in my 2003 F-150 with 140,000 miles on it for a 2016 F-150 2.7L twin turbo with (get this) 27,000 miles on it.This truck is straight as a arrow and it’s kind of a burnt orange color. My old truck started to have some issues, and repairing it would cost more than the truck was worth. I talk pride in what I own and that truck was still a looker.Well Poppy I’ve taken up enough of your time,so stay safe and healthy and keep those videos coming.Have a great life...Rick
Oh Lord Rick I was wanting to hear more about your feelings on the old truck compared to the new truck, if you do write back take all the time you need, I’ll read every single word, ain’t no limit on anyone , 74 is just a number, I know some young 74 year olds and some old 35 year olds. Don’t remember Ford offering a burnt orange, was the truck repainted or a wrap, my race red F150 has a orange tint in the sun, I think anyhow. What part of the country you live in? Rick don’t leave us hanging! Thank you for the compliment brother.
@@poppyneese1811 Good morning Poppy. How ya doin this fine morning? So,I’ve only had this truck for four days so I really don’t know much about this new used truck.Maybe I was wrong on the color. If it’s cloudy out it would appear to be a kinda root beer color. In the sun more of the metallic comes out and it looks like more a redish hue to it.I’ll have to check the paint code on the vin.So about my old truck.Actually I will refer to her as other truck.Well, like I said it had 140,000 on her,was what they call Blue Jeans color, had a regular cab with a 5.4L engine that developed a ticking noise (sounded like a loose tappet)which is actually a worn cam follower. That is a pretty big job to fix.If I was more limber I would have fixed it myself, but after six back surgeries And this being four wheel drive it would have taken me longer to repair. I’m a retired diesel mechanic and a gunsmith now so I’m confident that I knew how to do it. I had that truck for 16 years a it was hard to let her go. I had at least twelve maybe more coats of ceramic coating on the body, washed her twice a week and coated her about every three months.(I guess there’s more than twelve coats on her)The only rust on the body was on the back of the cab at the bottom, not real big but it was there, which really pissed me off because of all the coats that I had applied.Ya know this is getting pretty long so I will close for now..Love to hear back from you.So for now stay safe and healthy God bless you brother and will talk soon.By for now RIck
I read every word brother! New truck sounds sharp. Wow a diesel mechanic and a gun smith, that’s amazing, I got in sales not a single talent did the Lord give me. Man sorry about all the back problems, not sure why so much bad happens to good folks, my theory is maybe they are taking a little suffering off the bad ones, kind of like when Jesus suffered for us. One good thing that Aluminum ain’t going to rust, I think as soon as the weather breaks I’m going to ceramic coat mine, I wax with ICE by turtle wax, but what I hear that Ceramic coating is way better. My barber has a 5.4 in an old Ford with nearly 300k on it, I got a feeling his truck no where near has recurved the care your old truck got. Any time you need to talk, Fire me a message, I ain’t the sharpest feller, but I always find time to talk about the Lord or Trucks and guns, I only got 2, a Mosseberg shotgun and a Ruger 22, wife couldn’t cock a 9mm, I ain’t a real good shot and pray I never need it, so I went with a shotgun, but I enjoy shooting.
Great review! I own a similar truck myself. Other than the stop start option, I love my truck as well. I don’t think I will ever walk away from an ecoboost truck.
Thank You for the compliment and I agree with you totally, In my 2020 Company Chrysler Voyager the Ford Stop Start is smooth, compared to the Chrysler’s , rough as a cob and I dislike em both. The 2.7 is an amazing engine, would love to drive the coming Bronco with it!
One of the first things I did was get a circuit it’s a plug in pretty easy and completely disabled to start stop option it works in reverse you press the button and it has the start stop option otherwise it is automatic and stops the option.
Thanks for sharing your story. I just bought a 2016 with the 2.7 Ecoboost with only 60,000 km. Like you I moved up from a 2013 Tacoma. It was a fabulous truck to own and I am sad to see it go. But I needed more room for my family and with the high resale value here in Vancouver BC Canada. I was able to get $26,000 for my trade. I paid $39,000 back in 2013. Crazy! Hopefully my XTL Super Crew is as reliable as my Tacoma.
I’d get a oil catch can on her if she doesn’t have one, you 2016 and my 2017 don’t have dual injection if it doesn’t have one, been happy JLT brand I bought from Amazon, not sure a lot of people agree anymore, but I try to let mine idle about a minute before shutting it down to cool the Turbos, I remember a buddy back in the 90’s always did that to his Turbo Subaru. Comfort wise no comparison, these things are road trippers for sure! Hope yours is as every bit good as mine, I gotta say I don’t even think about the Tacoma anymore. Congratulations on the new truck!!!
Always love watching your reviews. Hoping all is well since the 3 year 47k video. Hope to see a new 4-5 year update soon. Thanks to honest/real world commentary like yours I ended up picking up a 21’ f150 stx w the 2.7. Much like you I too love that little engine. It definitely punches above its weight class. Anyhow, just wanted to shout out and say we’re praying for you and your family with hopes that you have made it through this crazy year and a half .God bless you sir.
Retiring January 3rd, just busy getting things ready for a new person, 36 years about all I want, doing good, Thank You for the compliments, no big news, she’s running good as ever, will be doing one hopefully real soon, anything I might have left out you might want in the new video? Congratulation on the new truck would love to ride in it! Got to admit the new trucks are growing on me. God Bless you and yours too! Here are some weird times we going through
@@poppyneese1811 Good to hear you are hanging it up with plenty of years and God willing good health ahead. No particular content other than any updates with your truck. I am thinking about getting a half ton towable travel trailer soon. Would love to hear how much you’ve loaded up and how it went. Take care buddy.
I mistakenly put we figure about 2,400 pounds in the bed, engineered flooring, drove fine, it kind of looked like them young folks that make their trucks rear ends drag and not a bit of trouble with a 5,000 pound horse trailer loaded with sons Alpacas, fuel mileage dropped to around 14 though, but pulled it great, I don’t tow a lot and we’ve talked about a small camper, had a pop up and never again for a pop up. Hey brother wish you the best!
i love my 18 f150 lariat fx4! has the 3.5l ecoboost in it.....pulls my camper like a dream! love the panoramic moon roof too! these are the best trucks!!!
Retired boss has a Lariat, wow so nice, recently got to drive a 3.5 and honestly couldn’t tell it which EB engine it was, but of course we weren’t towing, heard that’s where the difference show it’s self, congratulations, riding in style!
You know thinking about that Lariat, I couldn’t get comfortable in, scared I’d scuff something or spill my spit bottle, my DNA must be programmed for poor, it knows when in way above my raising, but man it sure is a pretty truck inside and out!
Love hearing that! Every time I drive mine, the power, smoothness, the economy and just a well made vehicle, I gotta say I fully 100% agree with you, Daniel keep us updated on the truck as you continue to roll up the miles!
Love to listen to you gushing about your truck... Because you’re also gushing about mine!! My first modern truck in my 55 years... still love my rustic 77 as my project 👍👍. Great video!!
I had a good Friend that had a 76 or 77, had a big lift, Mud Hawg Tire’s, big ones, a white roll bar with 4 KC Highlighters, it was a manual with a 351, talking about nice, it was blue with a custom paint job, his brother shot it in Emron, that was some dangerous stuff, would love to see your truck.
I also have a 19 Stx with the 2.7 running 295/70/17 on a leveled 2.5’ kit. Ive had it for 17,000 miles and have had no issues what so ever. Love the get up and go with this small guy and just fingers crossed that it will last me a long time
Pretty sure your 19’s engine is much improved over mine, dual fuel systems more Torque and mines been great, yours should be even better! Good luck with the great truck. Watch out for the Police and be careful!
Today was in my company van and watched a Ranger bust a Tacoma from the red light, wasn’t pretty, the Ranger just left the Tacoma sitting and pretty sure it was a V6.
That probably shocked him,,,,,,,,,,, then Toyota guy think there just a lil better than us domestic owners, they do build a good truck, but slow as molasses on a cold day in Vermont!
Good morning Poppy, I apologize for not getting back to you sooner but I’ve been busy with my truck. It’s been in my garage for about two weeks now and have been going over it with a fine tooth comb. I’m not finding anything wrong but I guess you could say that I’m super detailing it. I just got a set of Cree headlight bulbs which I will be installing today.Man are they expensive, but super bright. I’m also trying to learn the electronics on this truck. I’m old school man..... I don’t really know how to work everything on my phone!! LOL. I hope all is well with you.Talk with you soon....Stay safe and healthy your friend Rick
I just bought a used ‘18 F-150 Supercrew 4x4 with only 29K on it about 3 weeks ago now.....awesome truck so far it has amazing power can’t wait to fix it up a lil bit
You know Poppy we just bought our 2016 with 56k miles 3 months ago. Put it through the Colorado test and we cut through those mountain dirt trails like a hot knife through butter while pulling a boat. Got say though I’m only getting 17 mpg average. Will also tell you people are leaving notes on my windshield asking if I’m interested in selling. Why couldn’t they do that with the piece of crap Ram truck I had prior too. Anyway, keep em coming brother.
You my friend are a real truck MAN, I bow before you sir! If the 2.7 Ecoboost passes your test it will easily be good enough for at least 90% of truck owners!!! Thank You for sharing!!!
Fluid changes, fluid changes, fluid changes.......... proper maintenance with quality parts is KEY. These modern vehicles rely on such small oil passages that if they start to plug up, all kinds of issues can happen.
35’s sure look good, did you do a lift lift? Big change from the Toyota for sure, my Tacoma was a 4.0 6 speed manual and honestly felt as slow as my old 2.7 4 banger Tacoma which honestly I like better than the 2015.
Those 2.7s are turning out to be really dependable and trouble free. This would be the third or fourth ecoboost they made and the ecoboosts are getting more and more perfected. I love the red color of you're truck. I have an 03 F150 5.4 2 valve, not the trouble prone 5.4 3 valve. Mine has 398,000, on it and runs perfectly. If I ever wear that one out, I take meticulous care of it, I'd replace it with the 2.7 ecoboost.
That is some awesome mileage and great maintenance I’m sure, my barber has a 5.4 not sure which variant, it really looks rough, West Virginia salts the road and I think it has around 300k on it. Just did my 70k oil change and knock on wood not the first problem thank the Lord. This week end took it down to see daughter and her family, about a 350 mile trip down averaged 21.85 mpg the entire trip, I ran it around 73 mph, at 69 they seem to do a lil better but we were pushing to get there. I had a 67 289 fast back Mustang, this truck puts me in mind of it, moves the truck with no effort Love it!
I think the 2.7 is so unappreciated by those who have never driven a truck with one, it would be my engine of choice for the f150 cant wait to see that beast in the ranger, hold on to your shorts
Willie I’m not sure, but I think the 2.7 is the #1 solid engine in the F150,,,,,,,,, you know I am also surprised it’s not been put in the Ranger, but honestly I haven’t talk with a Ranger owner with the 2.3 that complained it was slow,
@@poppyneese1811 Its going in the next gen ranger it shares the platform with the new Bronco as far as the 2.3 being slow, that is honestly the first time I heard those two words together as far as the Ranger goes anyway. The 2.3 outperform all the v6s in its class minus the towing of the diesel but thats a whole different animal. I believe you are right about being the # 1 sold engine. Just another point being so small Im sure the engine bay gives you plenty of room to do your maintenance, thanks for the video BTW
Willie oil changes ain’t to bad! That other stuff, let’s just say I Thank God for Mechanics, I’ve heard that 2.7 are pushing around 500 hp with just a tune, can you imagine that in. Ranger or Bronco, I’m old and will just admire the young bucks souping up their awesome rides from afar, I’d love to fly a F16, but inside I know I ain’t the man for it!😬
I recently bought a 2015 F-150 XLT 2.7 eco boost with 108,000 miles Apparently the other owner was on point with maintenance wish me luck man with my truck this is my first truck ever it’s red metallic and even comes with a Bedliner
I’m with you dude also bought me a 2.7 with 105k miles 2015 man great so far hoping it last me a while I’m excited to see what happens. Also my first bought truck off a dealer!
@@adrianromero2973 I bought my first truck in 2014. 3.5L XLT Ecoboost and i love it! 71k and it's running great. It's been paid off for over a year. No plans on trading her in. Early next year I plan on doing the full maintenance... replaced plugs, flushes, etc. I know it's good until the 100k mark, but since it's paid off, I say why not? Can only make the truck semi new again for another 80k miles.
CWB1863 got a friend in Longview Texas with well over 350k on a 3.5 king ranch m, owns a hay farm and even though I think he’s a little more the gentleman type farmer than hard core farmer, works that truck everyday and takes it hunting in Colorado and Montana every year, he’s now in his late 60’s and I know that as of a year ago truck had the original turbos one it.
Hey there you Canuck! They are great trucks. Keep them oil changes up to date, pretty much I’ve found talking with people that’s the secret to ecoboost reliability. I’m old so I’ll just say be careful! I use to do stuff like that. Sure we don’t get snow like Canada, daughter went to school at Middlebury Vermont I noticed a lot of people owned payloaders, I asked a old guy in the store does everybody in Vermont like to move dirt, he said those aren’t for moving dirt.
@@poppyneese1811 lol yep the move dirt and lots of snow. We actually have no snow right now, but that just means we are going to get a lot in Jan and Feb
Use to be a man, 38 years of marriage same woman, raised 4 kids, have 8 grandchildren, buried countless pets and 35 years going to work same company has worn me down, but what a great compliment Thank You!!!
Ain’t a thing wrong with RAMS, if money and gas mileage wouldn’t have been a issue, I’d probably be driving a Rebel! If I win the lottery I’d order the insane TRX, maybe a Raptor too, need something to trash around in, TRX WOULD BE MY GO TO CHURCH AND DATE NIGHT VEHICLE! I’d say the TRX would cut our drive to Church time by a few minutes😀
Ryan Patterson congratulations! Use to wonder why so many full size F150’s in the road, so far I am sure they are so good in so many ways and add that powerhouse lil engine and it all adds up to my favorite all time vehicle purchase,
Nice truck! The 2.7 is the best engine currently offered in the F-150, in my opinion. It's smooth, quiet, quick, powerful, efficient, etc and the 2nd gen 2.7 with port injection resolved the one problem (carbon buildup) the engine was known to have. I will be purchasing a 2021 F-150 XLT Sport 4x4 with this engine and I can't wait! I've only had midsize trucks, but I need more payload on the next one to haul a camper. Like you, I take excellent care of my vehicles, so I expect to get at least 200,000 miles out of the Ecoboost. The Pennzoil Platinum is excellent oil, I will either use that or Mobil 1 Extended Performance, but full synthetic oil is a must for these high-tech turbo engines, even tho Ford only requires synthetic blend.
The 21’s are starting to grow on me, at first I was like not so crazy about the front ends, but I’m coming around to them. Couldn’t agree more in the 2.7’s, so far mines been perfect. I can’t wait to hear more when you get the truck about the changes CONGRATULATIONS!
@@paulhunter9613 It's a small displacement twin turbo so it's always going to be working hard in a truck application. Oil is cheap so there is no reason to scrimp on such a basic maint item...not worth the risk.
@@dlg5485 it’s not “working hard”at all and the 2.7 is designed to handle it. The engine when driven like a sane person barely uses any turbo, there is no need to floor the go pedal all the time to make it work hard like some ignorant folks think.it’s not like driving a five oh, that engine works hard to get it going. There is no risk using semi synthetic oil, I change it every 4000 mi. The risk is when someone like you runs the oil far too long
One of the first times I drove my 2016 ecoboost I heard a faint whistle from the turbochargers and thought a diesel was behind me. Happy with it so far. And love the big aftermarket for parts.
My old ears just can’t pick that turbo sound up, but my rear tells me their doing their job! Congratulations friend hope it’s a awesome truck for years to come!!!
I just got a used 2018 STX 4X4 with the 2.7L ecoboost. My wife got it for me last Monday. I drove a 2006 5.4 for 15 years. The difference between the two is like night and day. I love the ecoboost engine. The start/stop doesn't bother me. If you don't like it there is a stub you can plug into your trailer outlet on the back bumper that will make the ecu think your towing a trailer and that will deactivate the start/stop. The stub won't void your warrantee either. After driving an ecoboost I am of the opinion that trucks and turbos go together like peanut butter and jelly.
That is some awesome praise for the 2.7 and I gotta say I agree fully, doesn’t make a bit of sense to anyone that hasn’t driven one and you tell em 2,7 in a full size truck Congratulations friend on the truck, let us know how it’s doing as you get on with it.
I've heard nothing but good things from the little 2.7 ecoboost! The 3.5 has its flaws but they're good too. The ecoboost gets it hate due to the lack of v8 rumble from the exhaust. I love the ecoboost engines. Glad you're enjoying your truck!
Amen to all the trucks today are pretty decent as long as you take care of them... I have a 2019 Ram 1500 Bighorn with the 5.7 and I have gotten 19 -21 mpg which I was blown away when I first got it you can't really go wrong with any truck today 👍great video kind sir.
That is incredible mileage for a big HEMI just looked up your truck on fuelly and the average MPG, your mileage is in the top tier of what RAM owners report for 2019 RAM 1500’s 15.4 mpg, what is your secret to that excellent fuel economy?
I have a 2019 if you look it up it is faster than the v8 in the 1/4 mile. it is also faster than the hemi 5.7 and the chevy 5.3 in the 1/4 mile it is a bad ass motor. I love it and I was a V8 fan till now.
I would like to drive the newer 2.7’s with the additional 25 lbs torque, wondering if I could tell the difference. These lil engine will definitely get you in trouble the way they run, Blaine stay safe out there, do a video on your truck, I’ll watch it!!! Can’t wait Brother!!!
I have a 2020 2.7 Eco.....and wow is this a great truck. the pairing of the 10 speed trans with this engine works great. Sport mode totally changes the personality of it.
@@MOTILAC totally agree I will really see what my truck can do next month. I go to west Virginia and will be towing a atv with all my gear for hunting season. Its only about 3000 pounds trailer, atv and gear total but in the mountains I think those turbos will shine 👍
Nice review. I have a 2021 SXT 2.7 2x2 now for 3 weeks. Lots of bells and whistles and start stop tech which I have no issues with. It has auto hold brakes which I disable when creeping into a parking space,, hands free lane keeper (it is not 100% and will go into an alarm fit if hands off is too long), reverse gear cam, smart phone connect to start the 2.7 and unlock doors and make calls,, blind spot alert, speed limit sign reader, 10 speed tranny (new to me and takes some getting used to). It also has an aircraft type black box, 4 sides collision avoidance with all 4 sides sensors, and it has 2, 120 volt receptacles and 2, 12 volts (the next black out I won't need a portable generator). There's more but I'm temporarily worn out from learning them all.
@@mysticwine remember I’m old so 58k is what I bought a house for in 86, do a video I’d love to see your truck, it sounds like a really really nice STX, loaded to the gills so it’s probably now a good buy, I hope it’s the best vehicle you have ever had I’ve sure enjoyed mine! And again I’m tickled to death for you!!!
I've got a 2016 F150 2.7 Eco with 52k and I still love my truck. Have the 2WD crew cab xlt in Florida and average 23, happy with that, very comfortable to drive. Good review.
Joe L ain’t Irving wrong with 2wd, especially in Florida, that outstanding mpg’s, often wondered if I really need 4wd, I don’t off roading, we might get 15 road covering snows a year, but then again every 5 or 6 years we get a bad winter. My grand dad had nothing but 2wd pick ups he said back in the 59’s and 60’s the 4wd was more trouble than it was worth, dealers only got very few and they almost had give them away cause nobody trusted them.
Barry Horton you’ll love it, be careful cause they’ll fly and I’ve heard the CHIPS have no mercy on you, let me know when you get it, the color and what you think. Our bass player in our Church band is a California guy that moved here to West Virginia, what a good laid back person he is too.
Nice review Poppy. I'm probably older than you (75) just ordered a 2022 Ford F-150 Lariat with a 2.7. After luckily surviving COVID this year at 78 days in the ICU and acute Rehab I decided to treat myself to a new truck. I just sold my 2015 Ford F-150 3.5 302 package for $31,000 with 19,500 miles on it. This truck never gave me on mechanical problem (other than door locks). I was getting an average of 18 around town. I really wanted alot of the newer safety features and just a new truck. I'm looking forward to this 2.7, my 3.5 was a great engine...too fast for me lol. I was allowed to order the truck without the start stop feature.
I Thank God you came through it!!! You deserve a new truck, I truly hope you enjoy it as much as your 3.5 F150. Let me know how you like the 2.7Ecoboost compared to 3.5 again Happy you made, almost lost oldest son from it last year, still hasn’t gone back to work. I’ve met some young 78 year olds and some old 60 year olds, think it’s in the mind. Again Thank God you came through it!
@@poppyneese1811 My 2015 3.5 was a dream, I actually miss it. I really like the new adaptive driving packages . Who ever got my old truck got a good one. I sold it to car max, couldn't beat their price.
@@tkbouncer yep my middle boy has felt with them a couple times, that was a heck of a price they paid you, but used trucks prices being what they are and yours didn’t really have any mileage on it. Can I ask were you vaccinated against COVID, when you got sick or not, I had Really light symptoms still can’t taste or smell and it’s been way over a year ago,
@@poppyneese1811 I got the virus in late March 2020 and was immediately put in a coma with a ventilator for 3.5 weeks then they took it out for 2 days and put it back in for a few more. developed a bad bladder infection. I went from 260lbs to 198lbs. No strength to even push remote control buttons. Went to acute rehab for 5 weeks, luckily after 3 weeks, I was able to stand by myself..... So now I'm good with lung and bladder issues. I had a catheter in for 7 months. I received two Moderna shots, the last in February 2021. Yesterday I took an antibodies test and waiting for the results. I'm in no hurry to get the booster (the doctor thinks my natural immunity is strong). I never had taste or smell issues. From the people I talked with, it seems people mild cases got those symptoms My lungs were in bad shape in ICU but since they have recovered back to normal. Hope this helps..
I have a 2016 with the 2.7 with 130K miles the only issue I have had was a temp sensor around 50K miles that made it go into limp mode thinking the engine was running hot when it wasn't, luckily was still under warranty at the time. I change the oil myself every 5K miles, just the motocraft syn blend 5W 30 with no catch can (be sure to inspect the O ring and plastic drain plug they recommend replacing it every oil change but I have made it through several before replacement it is around $12 at the dealer), changed the diff fluid at around 100K the plugs every 60K whether it needs it or not since turbos can be hard on plugs (the rear passenger side one is a challenge), the trans is a pain to service because it doesn't have a dipstick tube accessible under the hood, you have to crawl underneath to remove a hex bolt with a short dipstick attached to it which makes adding fluid way more difficult than it should be and of course the pan doesn't have a drain plug, have had the cooling system flushed, just typical maintenance will hopefully go a long way.
I have a 16 MKX with 94k on it. Love the engine and am religious with the oil changes. I tow with it a few times per year with no issues. My wife got her 2nd expedition with the 3.5 and had no idea it wasn’t a V8. Love those eco boosts.
Andrew Madans I couldn’t agree more, Lincoln and a Expedition, nice fleet! I run into a lot of Ecoboost haters, understood if you got a bad one in the past, but people that haven’t even drove one. Continue to update us on your experience with these 2 Ecoboost powered vehicles.
Know the area very well, had all the retail stores in that area for 35 year tobacco sales rep, you know D&J Video? My old boss in South Charleston has a 2016, Lariat also with the 2.7, much fancier than my lowly STX. Did you leave the area?
I have 60000 km on my 16 xlt fx4 and have had no issues with it .Love the truck . Even got up to 33 mpg on 1 return trip from Calgary one day . Tow a 3000 lb. camper with no problems passing others .
Great review!!! Just got my 2018 2.7 eco boost a couple weeks ago and I couldn’t be any happier with it love this truck!!!Can’t wait to see the next video!!
Won’t be long, trying to think of new things to say, any advice would be appreciated, hope you enjoy that 2018. Trim? Color? 4 WD or 2 WD, would like to hear more about your truck.
Nice looking truck Poppy! Love my 2014 3.5L Ecoboost. 71k on it so far and it's running great. Plus, she's been paid off for over a year now. No plans on trader her in anytime soon.
CWB1863 congratulations on getting her paid for!!! I’m still about 2 1/2 from that goal. I really gotta admit how the 2014 body style has grown on me and how many Ecoboost powered ones I’m seeing around here, hoping the 2.7 is as good of engine as the 3.5’s are proving to be.
Great video, I also have a 17 STX 2.7 EcoBoost but it’s the metallic color. I have 95k on it, and I do oil changes every 5-7k miles. I wasn’t expecting it to go this far with the stock turbo’s considering I’m getting 17 mpg because I have a heavy foot. Good luck with your truck!
I get in a site called fuelly and you ain’t the only one with a heavy foot out there driving 2.7 Ecoboost powered F150, I drive like a granddad, but still every once and a while I get on it pretty good🤨 temptation
Also Pennzoil is one of the best motor oil brands on the market (owned by shell oil). Personally I run Amsoil on my EcoBoost, but wouldn't hesitate to put Pennzoil in it.
@@poppyneese1811 lol, this video got me on both amsoil and pennzoil. This video shows how both brand are great and very comparable in performance. ruclips.net/video/TWuKvnCq1js/видео.html
Your a great guy. I agree with you. If I was rich I’d buy every make of truck brand. If people do proper maintenance they’ll last many years. I’ve got a 2014 Silverado LT Z71, 5.3. My brother in law has the F150 2.7 and I really like it. It feels lighter and easier to turn. I’ve pulled a pontoon with it and pulled it with ease.
North Lander hey if the new Silverado would have been out (didn’t like it when I first saw it, now I love it) when I bought my truck and I could have gotten a great deal on a Silverado that didn’t look like the local water company owned it, I’d had no problem buying a Chevy, to many friends with Chevys with well over 200 k on them around me, the aluminum body was a plus on the Ford, WV uses salt on the roads and it wrecks the steel bodied trucks fast. Yea the Aluminum won’t rust, but what the dealers won’t tell you is if you need a body panel repaired, it’s nearly twice as much compared to steel, maybe that’s changing as more get in the road me, tailgate was about 1200 compared to a steel on earlier models costing around 600.
Jim Groft be careful brother, just keep them oil changes on schedule and even though the manual says air filter ever 50k I do it about every 20k, I also vacuum out the air box, wanna make sure the Turbos live as long as possible getting ready to change plugs. Would love to see your new rig, if you get a chance shoot me a pic johnneese1962@gmail.com
I have 94k on the 2.7 pretty solid never had any major issues. a sensor was changed at 500 miles and the high pressure fuel pump was changed under warranty due to the chirping.(Toyota had the same problem) at 12k now I have 94k I tow alot and just runs and runs.i do oil changes at 7k full synthetic motorcraft. I'll make a video at 100k
The 2.7 is the fastest of the three engines for your year. Check out the fast lane truck race for fastest truck, the 2.7 beat all the v8s. 2000rpm 4wd launches are crazy in the 2.7
Wow, did not know that, I kind of ran it against a 6.2 GMC, up to 60 I had him, but then he caught me and guess all that displacement caught up with me, plus fear of jail, I watched the green mile.
I enjoy your watching your videos. It’s been awhile since you’ve posted anything. Is there any chance you could make an updated video about your truck?
Will do it soon, I’m not sure how to upload a video they’ve really changed it. Drove the F150 to Lexington Ky today about 350 miles, did an awesome job
Love your truck Mr Neese. I’m thinking about getting the Nissan Titan not 100% sure I’m trying my best to wait until the new redesign tundra comes out.
I’m not crazy about the Titans looks, especially the lower trim trucks, the higher line trucks look great, have no doubt their probably awesome rigs though, why did Nissan not build the Warrior concept truck, that looked so good. I can’t wait to see the new Tundra, the current Tundra has really grown on me, rust warning if you live where they salt the roads my past 2 Tacomas could not take it. Justin what ever you get, do a video I’d love to see it, don’t overlook the other American brands, I know Tundras and Titans are made here, but the profits go over seas. What ever you get hope it’s a great truck.
@@poppyneese1811 thanks, I would give gmc/Chevy a buy, but I watch Scotty Kilmer a lot he always talks about how crappy their products are. I love the ford trucks ride quality I was blown away by them hands down the best. It’s just I worry about it not holding up long term. I am glad that you have been able to get 3 years out of your truck and I hope you gain more years trouble free. I live in Texas, so rust really wouldn’t be an issue for me. The ram looks great, but sheesh $73k. I’m planning on a budget no more than 55k
Greetings from Puerto Rico!! I have a F150 2002 supercrew 4.6 v8 4x4 and I am thinking of buying another F150 and you have convinced me to buy it! and with that engine.😄😄😄👍🙋♂️
I think you’ll like it, buy new Maintenance! Buy used make sure Maintenance was done, I’d also get 2018 or newer, that duel fuel systems, my truck has the older 6 speed, been great, the new 10 speed people love them or hate them what I’ve read. I’m pretty easy on mine 95% time, but everyone and a while you gotta show a Silverado, Ram or Tundra what quick off the line means! Good luck with your new truck.
I have a friend from Pakistan his name is Nieem we discus religion, I pray we both are worthy of Heaven, without Nieem there it wouldn’t be Heaven for me and I hope he feels the same about me. I do love red, when I was small I got a Red bicycle, first new bike, I washed it everyday and covered it up at our house with a old blanket, we were poor, didn’t know it though, my grandparents never told us. He owns a store, but so smart he could have done anything, I think I’m just his slow hillbilly friend🥴 by the way the bike was red, I really like the blue on the STX’s, Black always looks good, I’m way to lazy for black
I’m going to try that! Thank You!!! By the way you kind of the young fellow that played Superman, if I’d had your looks and my personality wouldn’t have been a gal safe in all of West Virginia when I was young
Mine too, but I need a button on me to remind me to push it, really not a big deal, but a little annoying.i think it should be off unless you need it, then if you so chose, activate it.
I enjoyed your video, sir. My gf has 2020, ford explorer with the 2.3 eco boost and she has about 49k miles and no issues! She got it brand new in 2020, and so far no issues… she gets about 26.5 mpg. Maybe Ford perfected the eco boost engines ?? 😎
That is wonderful to hear, I think the 2.3 Ecoboost is an outstanding engine, funny a friend has an Explorer that is owned by his company, came up to the house and I asked what engine did it have, he said what ever it’s got it will fly, looked under the hood and he was shocked it was a 4 cylinder. I know they’ll yank a Mustang around very well too, that is awesome MPG’s for that big of a vehicle. Glad to hear the service your getting out of it!!!
Hey, the Katskins are a great idea. I have over 80k on my Tacoma with them on. I paid $200 to have a local upholstery expert install them. I'd recommend that unless you've done it before. It gets pretty tedious to stretch them on just right and having the right tools and technique is important.
I imagine it will do a great job in the Bronco, not being an off roading person, I do wonder how Turbos react to lots of slow hard crawling, if they’ll stay cool, but then again not heard any complaints about Jeeps Turbo 4 in those conditions. For the average 4wd people, mostly running around a lil camping and snowy roads I’m sure it will be a great engine. I’m also seeing tuners really boost these engines numbers torque and hp. I’m thinking for 90% of buyers the stock 2.7 will be just fine though.
All the full size trucks are good trucks and their performance is great. The Japanese trucks just don't keep up to the american ones with power trains. This is unfortunate because even though I am a chevy guy, that Toyota build quality and reliability is on another level and tempting. Great to here your review, nice to see someones experience. The Ford turbo 6 engines performance is amazing. I just worry about the reliability of such a high tech, turbo motor. My boss has one of the original 3.5's and he did have quite a bit of trouble, timing chains, turbo issues. But Ford has had quite a few years and I believe these current motors are completely different than the original generation. Nice to see that your experience seems to show good reliability.
Gotta say I fully agree, I know of one local guy bought a 3.5 EB and returned it after only a few days, due to problems, he’s loaded owns a local chain of tire stores, then a friend in Longview Texas with well over 300k now on the same generation truck with the same 3.5, might be a little of a dice roll. One day at Lowe’s I saw a guy loading a beautiful new design Silverado, silver High Country, I told him sharp truck how you like it, he said he’d owned 2 months and been back at the dealer half that time, new engine, who builds better V8 engines than GM and yet it happens. I’m really easy on a truck, rarely get on it, never when cold and religiously do my oil changes and still keep my fingers crossed. As of right now it’s just an amazingly smooth strong engine that I hope runs for years and years. My Son has a Tesla, fastest thing I’ve ever drove, quiet and drives great, but I hate it, I love driving and Tesla is trying to take the driver out of the mix, as much as I hate the Tesla I understand that a V8 guy hates the ideal of a tiny V6 coming close to being able to perform at the level of his loved V8, guess we all fear and hate what we don’t know, I’m not sure these engines will take the abuse a V8 will, but if you take really good care of them I’m hoping it will be nearly as good. My whole life I’ve been the underdog, poor ugly and not very smart, but I went to work and tried to be good to everyone and never thought I was better than anyone else, just something in me always roots for the little feller, it’s just my nature.
All three domestics have issues with too long oil change interval specified by mfr. Ford OHC motors will have chain and guide wear, Ram will lose cam loves, and GM will lose switchable tappets and occasionally a cam. The lengthy oil changes even with synthetic oil have too much silicon (dust) accumulation when taken longer than 5k miles. Air filters don’t catch smaller particles and those particles are abrasive to some components. Cams and timing chains and variable cam timing or displacement on demand solenoids do not like the fine dust. In my shop I see 5k mile oil service vehicles with 200k miles with no leaks or issues and 7500-10,000 mile oil change identical vehicles with leaks and worn parts. I see lots of high mile eco boost engines.
@@poppyneese1811 I have been told at the dealer once a year regardless of miles. I seldom put a lot of miles on so it usually is once a year for me. I like the filter location on the engine. Scotty Kilmer says long highway miles are easier on the oil than town driving.
Larry Be I’m not a mechanic, I’ll just say a lot of smart truck guys that get 300k+ out of their rigs, believe changing oil is critically important. If that works for you, let us know for sure. I truly wish you the best, I’m a fraddy cat though,
@@poppyneese1811 I saw what changing oil religiously did to a 318 I once bought that was full of gunk as you looked into the oil fill on the valve cover. So yes, I subscribe to dutifully changing the oil as after three changes it was spotless.
Larry Be wondering if they used old Quaker State in that 318, my grand dad used nothing else, heard a lot of bad about that oil.Interesting it cleaned out, buddy had a 72 Charger with 318, loved that car!
Cheers back at you, might be the classiest thing I’ve ever said! Congratulation on a great truck, love the sound of the 5.0 for sure, a gotta say as much as love my 2.7 the 5.0 is a great engine and a pretty safe choice, I have a brother-in-law that I would never advise him to get a Ecoboost engine, he’s always had V8’s with performance exhaust and I think the quietness of the Ecoboost engine would kill him. Thank You Sir for the compliment!
I probably couldn’t afford the hybrid, but do think it gives consumers another choice which is always a good thing. The first pictures I saw were OK, but didn’t look that different to me and I hated the new front ends, but as I see more and more I’m liking it better and better, still I think the 2018-2020 STXs have the best looking grills of all the F150’s, can’t wait to see the 21’s in person but right now what I’m seeing wouldn’t get me to trade my 2017. I also worry about Ford’s debt situation, this could very well destroy Ford in the future as well as GM. Without these two companies we’d see just what the true price of a Tundra is, a friend use to buy old Toyota Land Cruisers and ship them back to Syria where there was no competition and made a killing, they were 70k here and 150k there, he’d do it 4 or 5 times a year til their economy completely died. I have to admit I was hoping for just a little more change, the Ecoboost engine and no rust Aluminum bodies and Ford not taking government bailout money and doing all their manufacturing here in the US and just being a great truck keeps me in the Ford camp. Not saying my 2017 F150 is my death truck, but I’m planning God Willing if driving it at least 6 more years, before trading.
Probably a good ideal, I’ll admit I’m a tight old guy and in WV that’s 30 cents more a gallon so I run 87 octane, it does fine, did run pure ethanol free gas a time or two and thought I could feel a lil difference, but years ago I also thought Slick 50 was worth the money.
The gauge cluster and all the other stuff just pops in and out no busting required usually 2 or 3 screws and that is it we did a ton of speedo conversions moving trucks across the border either way miles to k or k to miles for US...anyway it is suprisingly easy to get behind the dash for mods do not worry about that... stop start is a pain...
@@poppyneese1811 Let them do it will take 30 seconds to open and re close after whatever... Sales?? I want a bright red truck but is that too showy for clients?? I do landscaping..
Daniel LeClare I will, yea when you’re in business Race Red is a lil wild for clients, not sure they still make it but they had a dark red almost looks black. It looks good, watch yourself in the heat this time of year, we’ve been having close to 90 degrees in the mountains of West Virginia, for our population that’s hot. Hope you make so much money in your business you got put it 4 or 5 banks!
Nice video Poppy! I bought a 2020 F-150 XLT crew cab 2.7 in February. Been running great but in June I started noticing a “shudder” during medium acceleration. Example would be moving from 55 to 70 mph merging into traffic. If I hit her hard there is no shudder and she jumps like a rabbit. Also pulling off the road to a stop light she idles rough. But this is only on occasion. Not all the time. Have you or anybody else had this issue with your 2.7 Ecoboosts? I’ve got less than 10K miles on her.
No I haven’t, I’d get it back to the dealer, I know though probably hear we couldn’t get it to do it or they all do it. You think engine or transmission, I’m thinking Torque Converter. Hope someone else chimes in on this. Mine may idle a lil rough at times and I’m not perceptive enough to notice it, also thinking the shudder may be a programming issue, people either love or hate the 10 speed, mine has the lowly 6 and there’s a place near my house where if your in cruise it gets confused, the only place I’ve noticed, like a stumble.
Everyone, didn’t mean to make it sound like the seats are uncomfortable, I was more talking about the material that covers the seat isn’t holding up very well on the drivers seat.
Kevin Clark mine wearing pretty bad, I’m a fat boy, so that might be the problem, I wonder though about guys that really work out if these every day, I’m just complaining about the material, the seats to me are fine, way better than my wife’s CRV and my Company Caravan.
This is a great review, very relaxed. My wife and I are in the market to replace our 03 f150 and we're looking at 15-19 crew cabs. Debating the 5.0 since we have a 5.4 and pull a 5500 camper around. Sounds like be 2.7 may do the job just fine too
I think the 2.7 would be fine, but might wanna go 3.5 Lil added security, 5,500 plus say loaded, getting a lil close to limit, if you pull a lot, 3 or 4 time a year, should be fine though. Wish I’d got the bench up front would haul 6 and I have seen a few STX’s with it on Auto Trader but their rare as hens teeth. Good luck on the new truck!!!still love the truck.
There should be a button above the radio to turn off start and stop. I get 21 MPG freeway and streets . My wife is always trying to sneak my truck because she loves the power and speed.
Yea I know the button, just always forget it’s there. My wife loves driving it to! I do notice she wallops the MPG number when she takes it somewhere. I wonder is this 58 year old Grandmother if 8 out racing Silverados and RAMs in my truck? You just never know😞
Had my '19 XLT with 2.7 ecobeast for exactly one year now. Initially wasn't that impressed with the hwy economy, but that seemed to straighten up after a 3600 mile trip (done in 4 days). Power wise it is a fire breathing dragon! When the 400 lb-ft of torque comes on at only 2700 rpm, you best be wearing your seat belt!!
badcactus72 I agree 100%, last weekend drove my brother-in-law’s 5.3 Silverado, very nice truck, but off the line felt like a naturally aspirated V6, very sluggish, compared to my Ecoboost 2.7, he gets on the highway pretty much the same MPG’s, but in town he can’t touch my 20.4, he usually around 16, most of my driving is in town. Enjoy that race truck and be careful brother!!!
I agree, great looking tire, but apparently very soft compound on those tires, really smooth and good in rain, ok in the snow. What kind did you replace them with? Also congratulations on retiring, how many years what did you do for all them years? Miss the Mustang at all, they look good?

@@poppyneese1811 Yeah, it's got me stumped as well. I have very recently placed an order for a 2022 F-150 and wanted the 2.7 engine for better mph and given that I don't tow anything, this was the best choice. However, I will have a camper in the bed so the payload is important to me and the 2.7 doesn't cut it. Such a shame.
@@PS987654321PS hey the 3.5’s are stout, I’m thinking driven easy you might get better mileage than you think with the 3.5, I’ve heard some people say they did awesome mpg wise and others not so good, I do have a buddy in Longview TX with well over 300k on a 3.5 Ecoboost and still got the original turbos on it, he hunts in Montana and Colorado every winter and has a big hat farm. What ever you get hope it’s a great truck, I’d hate to buy right now
My egoboost escape has been a good little SUV. The only problem is it is automatic, because I drive manual. But that's a first world problem 🤣. I did almost have to get a new engine at 87K miles. The head gasket was starting to fail. I caught by the engine was using Accessive amounts of coolant. I drive my vehicles hard. I feel that the egoboost is a good engine, but not for someone with a lead foot. My current vehicles are 1. Stock Toyota Corolla 5 speed 1.8 L 2. Stock subaru forester 6 speed H4 3. 2002 ford ranger 5 speed, some minor 2.4 L V6 upgrades to the entertainment system. 4. Honda accord sleeper with LS1 engine swap 6 speed and a Toyota Tacoma transmission. It's my weekend car
Sounds like you enjoy spirited driving for sure and what a collection of vehicles, I’m not sure the year of Escape, but a guy that was a contractor for a company that came to the house to replace the mother board on company computer had a Ecoboost Escape with just over 300k, said it had been a great car, pretty sure he drives very conservatively like me.
love the honest review, where is the 4 year review? i also have the 2.7 love it car seat in the back lol mine too, great dad wagon cheers my friend and god bless from a youtuber in Canada
I will do my best to get a 4 1/2 year review due done soon, retiring Jan 2nd and getting things lined out been busy, after 35 1/2 years sane company and job working just burned out. Not much new to report though Lil 2.7 chugging good as ever and the truck doing great.
Nice truck, good review . I have a 2011 f150 5.0 with 99k miles no issues . Looking to get a new f150 this year , strongly considering the 2.7 ecoboost . I believe the engine line up Ford offers in the f150 are all good , just comes down to what you need , and want . Ford is defiantly way ahead of everyone else when it comes to 1/2 ton trucks , ram is catching up a little though .
Back when I was talking to truck owners I would run into during work, everyone said their truck brand was the best made, longest lasting, most trouble free, no matter what they were driving. The Ford guys that owned 5.0’s said that was the engine, the 3.5 guys claimed that was the engine. I figured I was ok no matter which truck I got and once I found a great price on a STX that already had then fairly new 2.7 I’d be just fine. I love my Ford and understand fully the advantages of a full size truck, I’d buy another Ford for sure, but then again I’d probably have to buy best price I could get no matter the brand. Not sure on the looks of the new truck, it’s ok, but wouldn’t get me to replace my 2017, just something don’t look right to me about the front end, it’s not awful, just kind of unsettles me and they took a heck of a price jump. Thank you for the compliment and the best of luck with your next truck, let us know what you get.
Hey man. Auto Stop Eliminator has a adapter that plug into your OBD port that will stop the auto stop/start for $100. Just bought one for mt 2020 SXT. I bought my last Chevrolet in 2014. Nothing but trouble. It is stock and service it regularly. I'm a 3rd generation GM buyer. So far Ford has won me over. We''ll see. I put about 36,000 miles on a year. I wish I never sold my '06 Duramax. Great review. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for the info! Sorry about bad luck on your last GM truck, guess it can happen to any, at 36K a year I’m sure a diesel paid off for you. My family were Ford people, for years I never even considered a Ford, I was a Tacoma guy, but rust and comfort switched me over. Hope your truck is great!
I have a 2019 f150… I got rid of the stock tires (I think they were 6 ply?) after the second flat on gravel in four months replaced them with E rated (10 ply) no problem since.
I have a 2016 with 2.7 eco I really like my truck but had it in the shop with 15,000 had to have new heads new from t engine cover . Which are plastic. Then with 45000 miles a oil pan replacement . Because its attic and the seal will eventally leak
Always worry with a new design, sorry that all happened. Hopefully Ford made it right. Anymore problems after those. I’m thinking these engines are better today than ours was, 2015/2016/2017, so far I’ve been lucky no problems. How did that experience effect you ever purchasing this engine in a F150 again?
Nice truck but on a side note I could sit on the porch and drink a beer and listen to this man talk for hours.

Agree, sounds like a real nice guy to chat with, wonder if I can convince him to move to Canada and be by neighbour
I don’t like never owning either, but we ain’t taking these vehicles with us to Heaven and Thank You Sir for the compliment, I hope I live up to it,
I just bought a 2020 F150 with the 2.7 Ecoboost and really love it. Glad to hear such a positive review after three years of ownership
All I need for sure!!!Ticked to death for you! Still surprised when I mash the throttle, if someone would have told me 25 years ago that a V6 would run this good I’d thought they was crazy!!!
I picked out a 2016 F150 sport today with 2.7 engine, i get the truck tomorrow and glad to see positive reviews also
Yeah me too.
I just traded my 13 FX2 with the 35 eco-boost in it has 240,000 miles I had a catch can on it changed the oil religiously used nothing but Ford Oil Only issues I ever had in 240,000 miles under the hood I replaced the battery one coil pack and plugs every 30,000 miles and throttlebody still running original serpentine belt alternator everything else factory I just bought a 2020 with the 2.7 in it hoping to get the same reliability and this video helps reassure me thank you
You are the man!!!I salute you sir!!! Good maintenance is 95% of tooling up the miles!!! Hope my truck is as good,
Did you install the catch can while your truck was under warranty? I am waiting the arrival of a 2020 f150 with the 2.7L ecoboost and I was thinking about installing a catch can but wondering if it will void my warranty!
Darryl Williams Yes I did install a “do it yourself catch can” and to be honest I never needed my warranty and they never asked or said anything when I took it in for that transmission tuning recall
John 2 I put a JKL on mine, catch can, surprised how little it catches, maybe 1oz every 5k.
@@darrylwilliams2216
A catch can won't be needed on your 2020 as it has duel injectors, one to clean the valve the other into the cylinder.
Some smart college boy probably changed something, I heard somewhere the newest 5.0’s have cylinder deactivation how long has GM worked on that😡
This man is a blessing in disguise great video can't wait for an update -from a ridgeline owner
Alex Cummings awesome to hear that, hope you get many many more trouble free years and miles!!! Thank You for the great compliment!!!😄
I’ve got a 19 with the 2.7 as well. I have 29k on it already. I have had 0 issues. I think it’s a great engine. God bless.
Jonathan Mullins mine has the lowly 6 speed, ain’t noticed that with it, my new company van has a 9 speed and it does some weird stuff at times
Love my 2.7! My coworker bought his 2015 brand new and now it has almost 100,000 miles on it and the check engine light has never even come on.
@@bigtexas81 wow! I'm looking at a 2016 2.7 ford f150 with 55,000 miles
Bought my 2018 xlt new and now have 43k miles with 0 issues. Love the truck and the 2.7 platform.
I’m with you, 20 years ago I’d never believed it!

Because you’re also gushing about mine!!

Keep us updated!!!
I have a 19 STX 2.7 and it's been awesome. Lots of power, comfortable, simple interior. No issues 30k in to its life.
Derek S still haven’t driven the new improved 2.7 F150, wondering if I could feel the boost in Torque, keep us updated on ownership.
Fluid changes, fluid changes, fluid changes.......... proper maintenance with quality parts is KEY. These modern vehicles rely on such small oil passages that if they start to plug up, all kinds of issues can happen.
AJourneyOfYourSoul Amen!
Have 90k on my 2018, zero issues. Came from Toyota and I’m very happy. Running 35s and get 20+mpg still!
I'm with CaptainAwesome, awesome video. I could also listen to him all day. Keep videos coming, please.
Thank you friend, words of encouragement mean a lot.
I’m old so I’ll just say be careful! I use to do stuff like that. I’d say the TRX would cut our drive to Church time by a few minutes😀
Have 42k on my 2019 stx 2.7 and no issues. Love the truck
Ryan Patterson congratulations! Use to wonder why so many full size F150’s in the road, so far I am sure they are so good in so many ways and add that powerhouse lil engine and it all adds up to my favorite all time vehicle purchase,
Thank you for a down to earth review. Refreshing.
Thank You for the compliment!!!
Unless you are literally beating the snot out of that 2.7 all the time, all you need is semi synthetic oil
The risk is when someone like you runs the oil far too long
@@paulhunter9613 I know what I'm doing. You do you.
Als gotta say what a woman, getting you the truck!!! Your a lucky man . congratulations to you both, enjoy it brother!
I've heard nothing but good things from the little 2.7 ecoboost! The 3.5 has its flaws but they're good too. The ecoboost gets it hate due to the lack of v8 rumble from the exhaust. I love the ecoboost engines. Glad you're enjoying your truck!
That may just be the reason.

The dealer wanted to give me $28,000 for it. I calculated the sales tax effect and my break even point was 29,500.

That’s awesome and good to hear!!!
Incredible mileage and service, I am taking notes, coming up on 60k so that’s oil change and spark plugs,
I have a 16 MKX with 94k on it. Love the engine and am religious with the oil changes. I tow with it a few times per year with no issues. My wife got her 2nd expedition with the 3.5 and had no idea it wasn’t a V8. Love those eco boosts.

We’re in bad trouble then😫
Great review of the engine. Considering it for a New Bronco.
Very Well Said,,,,,,,Jimmy just says it 100 times better than me,,,,,,,CHANGE YOUR OIL AT MOST EVERY 5k. Thank You Sir!!!

I have been told at the dealer once a year regardless of miles.

Thank You Sir for the compliment!
@@poppyneese1811 Thx for your reply ! What are your thoughts about the 2021 F150 and the new hybrid engines ? CHEERS ..
Im getting this engine with my 2 door bronco. That thing is going to be a beast. Plus they upgraded the engine a year or two ago.
Son if you was near Southern West Virginia, I’d be begg’n to ride it!!! What a rig
Man these things are smart!!!

I have a 2018 with the 2.7, with all the tow features and it can pull 9000#. It pulls my 6500# boat very well.
You just never know😞
Great review do you have a radio voice you should start your own radio station the F1 50 station
Face for radio too! Thank You
Had my '19 XLT with 2.7 ecobeast for exactly one year now.
@@poppyneese1811 haha, will do! I usually behave on the road, but those turbos are so much fun. Peace, my friend!
badcactus72 just checking on you, then turbos ain’t sent you up the river yet?
@@poppyneese1811 no sir! I'm still behaving 😁
badcactus72 laughing, son I ain’t sure if I believe you or not, I’m old and it’s hard to fight off the evil desire to turbo!!!
I agree,I retired, got rid of my Mustang for an 2019 F150 2.7.Its a great truck.I had two flats with the Hankook tires as well.
I agree, great looking tire, but apparently very soft compound on those tires, really smooth and good in rain, ok in the snow. What kind did you replace them with? Also congratulations on retiring, how many years what did you do for all them years? Miss the Mustang at all, they look good?
@@poppyneese1811 I have not change my stock tires yet.I have been retired for 7 years now,I had to quit at 62,Agent Orange caught up with me.I was a copier and printer tech. I miss the sound of the Mustang,My wife and I do a lot of riding and sight seeing. At 69 and the wife is 66.After our rides in the Mustang we had to go home and sit on the couch, that car beat us up with the sport ride and all,and I hate to admit it but it was getting tough to get in and out of!
First thing I do when I start my truck is hit that start/stop switch. At this point it's like second nature 🤣
Yep I’m almost there, every once and a while I miss it but 90% I remember!
Awesome review and a great guy
Thank You, hope I live up to your compliment!
I love my 2017 2.7L f150 xlt sports edition truck. Yes it is fast and nimble.
Little plug under the steering column. Plain sight. Pull that out it's the start stop
Why is the payload so much less with the 2.7 engine? Its like 800 lbs less that the 3.5 Ecoboost engine.
Not really sure, just looked it up and it’s a lot, really not sure why, maybe it’s just so much smaller in displacement, all I can think of
@@poppyneese1811 Yeah, it's got me stumped as well.
What ever you get hope it’s a great truck, I’d hate to buy right now
@@poppyneese1811 Cheers, brother. And you're right about buying right now. Zero discount on inflated pricing and a 5-month wait.
No don't worry it's not cursed China, the Motorcraft filters are made in the USA and really well priced.
I bought WIX and their made in Gastonia NC, but if I’m a Ford Dealership I’ll get Motor Craft, thanks for the info!
My current vehicles are
1. Stock Toyota Corolla 5 speed 1.8 L
2. Stock subaru forester 6 speed H4
3. 2002 ford ranger 5 speed, some minor 2.4 L V6 upgrades to the entertainment system.
4. Honda accord sleeper with LS1 engine swap 6 speed and a Toyota Tacoma transmission. It's my weekend car
Sounds like you enjoy spirited driving for sure and what a collection of vehicles, I’m not sure the year of Escape, but a guy that was a contractor for a company that came to the house to replace the mother board on company computer had a Ecoboost Escape with just over 300k, said it had been a great car, pretty sure he drives very conservatively like me.
love the honest review,
where is the 4 year review?
i also have the 2.7 love it

I will do my best to get a 4 1/2 year review due done soon, retiring Jan 2nd and getting things lined out been busy, after 35 1/2 years sane company and job working just burned out. Not much new to report though Lil 2.7 chugging good as ever and the truck doing great.
@@poppyneese1811 nice to hear bud yah I love my 2.7 It’s been flawless
Just changing oil and tires my man
Cheers
Might do some big time bragging, I have a friend who’s a Canuck, makes me international 🇨🇦
Yea ram with their 20 year old 5.7 😂
@@ryane6719 there engine / transmission is junk . They do a nice job with interior / exterior looks .
@@justin5345 I agree
Better decision V8 5.0 2018-2020 after this better ecoShit engines they kill v8 with timing belt and cylinder deactivation!
You have such a good voice!! hahah
Sorry about the accent, I try not to sound like a big WV hick, but it’s just there😟
@@poppyneese1811 your voice is awesome lol. Dont change a thing. We're not communists here 😄👍🇺🇲💪
Hope your truck is great!
you can plug a dummy trailer plug up to your truck and it will eliminate the stop start .for 20 dollars
@@jeremykirk1334 I heard that plugging in a trailer plug will shut off your back up camera, just saying.
I have a 2019 f150… I got rid of the stock tires (I think they were 6 ply?) after the second flat on gravel in four months replaced them with E rated (10 ply) no problem since.
Dies it ride a lot harder?
I have a 2016 with 2.7 eco
I really like my truck but had it in the shop with 15,000 had to have new heads new from t engine cover .
