I think it's possible to want a truck, and want to have the best gas (truck) mileage. That goes to towing range and for simply not going broke at the gas station.
My 5.3 Silverado has AVERAGED not instant but has AVERAGED 24 to 26 MPG with the cruise control set at 72 to 74 MPH multiple times! Towing my two quad's I average 18.7 to 19 MPG.. Yes you can have a truck and good fuel economy!!!
J Maier I agree. The guy being interviewed is a tool. I'd hate to go on a road trip with him all hopped on coffee. He'd be annoying asf complaining about every little insignificant thing wrong with everything! He sounds like a person that's never satisfied and expects nothing in life to go wrong.
The 2.7 Ecoboost is more reliable than the 3.5 and both eco engines are great IF you don't neglect preventive maintenance, which is always the key to long term reliability.
I have a 2016 same package STX 2.7L Crew with 52K so far NO issues at all., I live in Puerto Rico roads not so good and basically summer all year.. just have the doors recalls done and one rear axle seal replaced...cross finger still going strong... extra mega happy as how it has been since new..
@@HotHeadCJ hi...yes our GEO is variable I average city around 16 to 19 ...highway 21 to 23 ball park....but as here mostly city metro driving unless you go on a trip out of metro area ( then highway miles) my ""regular"" MPG is in the 19teens.
I’ve been in the automotive repair industry for 30 years and my experience is that the people that stay balls deep in debt on vehicles constantly are rarely ever happy with their purchases. Some folks just are beyond being satisfied with anything.
Read a book recently about working with money. It said no matter how much money you have to buy whatever you'll eventually get bored or tired of it and move onto the next material possession and never have true happiness as opposed to someone who uses that money of experiences even more so if they're going those experiences with friends or family
It seems these days, that no matter what brand or model of vehicle you try to “research”, there are problems with it. Ford, Chevy, GMC, Ram, all of them. I’m beginning to think the best game plan is to just buy the one that appeals to you, buy the extended warranty and send it. Does everybody make junk these days?
sthier24 and they can be. What I mean to say is for every problem on a forum, realize their are many more satisfied owners. Sometimes forum problems can lead you to believe defects exist more than they truly do.
@Boco LWN that is why I pay zero attention to any comments I will roll the dice and cross my fingers and so far I cant complain, and your comment goes for all brands including toyota
I own a 2019 2.7 as well. Has 0 issues. Own a 2015 3.5 ecoboost. Also no issues. Both trucks do a majority city driving and the 2.7 says it's getting 18.9. The 3.5 says 18.7 mpg. Highway I usually get 22 with both trucks.
So I watched a 21-minute video waiting to hear if there were mechanical issues but all I saw was a non mechanically inclined white dude crying that he's not getting Honda civic hwy mpg
You're right about the 2.7...it surprised me It's truly frisky. I run 93 octane (I live in OHIO). I'm getting better fuel efficiency than you. Perfectly happy with it. No issues
I actually like the Ford app, pretty cool to be able to see mileage, oil life, tire pressure etc before even getting in the car. Dash issue is well known, and most folks don't care, but you can get it replaced if you want. My 2.7 xlt 4x4 supercrew gets about 19 in the city and 23 or 24 on the high way.
I own a 2018 F150, 2.7 FX4, 3.55 rear end. Have owned it 2.5 years, absolutely no problems. My opinion is the Ford app is very good and the sync 3 is a excellent infotainment system.
God bless America when a man that doesn’t need a pick up truck drives 80 miles a day and buys a truck bitching about the mpg,s . By the way this is from a guy driving in an F450 1k miles a week
Ive got a 2019 F150 FX4 Lariat screw fully loaded 11,000 miles with Zero issues! I have homes in So Cal and Arizona lots of heat ZERO issues, Best truck I have ever had
I got my 2019 F150 2.7 back in February. I’m at 30k miles now, averaging 24 mpg @70mph and I’m in Florida is hot too. I only been to the dealer for oil changes.
I have a 2019 Ford F-150 xlt302 package with 3.5l echo boost 10 months old 4x4 with 20 “ wheels. On highway at 80 miles per hour averaging over 20 miles per hour around town 17-18 mpg. Transmission has smithed out and is wonderful. Best vehicle I’ve ever owned. Probably our 15th f series and the best yet. The 3.5l eco boost is fast.
Let me save the rest of you the trouble of watching this video. He had a camera issue taken care of by Ford, an issue with the app as if any of these apps are worth a crap anyway, and an issue with the dash which for replace and took care. That’s all. Don’t waste your time watching.
My company has had 4 of these 2.7 eco boost trucks and none of the four have ever had a single problem. All but one of these trucks had over 80k miles. The truck I drove averaged almost 21 mpg over 110k. I don’t care for the truck seating position vs. a car so I switched to a car for this cycle, but the f150s have been great in our fleet.
I have a this engine in a 2020 with and have never gotten over 18 mpg. Ever. Back to dealer 3 times with only 3k miles ,water filling the passenger floor. Glad you have had good luck
I own a family business and have two personal F150s and a small fleet of F150s and a few larger trucks. I have been extremely happy with my personal and commercial Ford trucks. My one personal F150 Ecoboost will soon be replaced with a Powerboost and the commercial fleet gets circulated when the accountant says it's time. Commercially, we look at GMC, Ford or Ram. I don't care which of them we go with for the firm. They've all been good dependable trucks and they get beat on, day in and day out by lugs who don't own them.
I would LOVE to see you continue with this formal of video reviews on people who purchased vehicles. Say 1 and 6 month updates. I cruise all the different forums for EXACTLY what you just did with this video. This is wayyy nicer to hear from you and a current new owner. You are onto something here that nobody else is doing!! Great Niche!! P.s. I would love to see a video like this after 30 or 60 days with a GMC 3.0l Duramax 1500 that you compared the Honda Ridgeline to in your last video :)
Most mechanics say the 5.0 is best . My 2011 F150 with the 5.0 just crossed 100k and runs like its new.

@@twoweary I don't see any reason to not get a 5.0 especially when the ''eco'' Fuel economy engines are getting what? another 4 5 mpg? Yeah for all the hassle and extra complexity to the systems? I'm good i'll pass.
I am averaging over 18 MPG lifetime on my 2.7. My average in the summer is over 20. That's a 4x4 crew cab. My old 5.4 averaged 14. Hard to complain about that.
Until the turbos go and cost you more to replace than the fuel you saved. If people understood basic ROI then there would be no market for these motors.
@@casualobserver2997 Except the Ecoboost aren't any less reliable than the 5.0 or Ram's 5.7. And they offer much better low end torque for doing truck stuff. It's not all about ROI. It's comical, all the people who claim turbo failures are inevitable.
@@plmn93 What is comical is all the comments about how well a truck is supposedly doing after 20k miles. That is nothing. I keep my trucks a long time and I expect at least a couple hundred thousand miles without major issues on a truck, don't do payments, and buy to keep. I just don't see any direct injection turbo powered undersized motors being able to deliver long term, rather I feel they are built more for the consumer that trades in every few years. To each their own. As long as I can still get the V8 I won't complain.
@@casualobserver2997 Good luck with that. If you think today's V8s aren't technologically advanced, pushing the limits of performance and economy, and expensive to repair, you're mistaken.
Just bought a 2020 4x4 Tundra. I’ve done 2 pump to pump easy open road driving nothing over 65 mph and I’ve achieved 18.4 and 19.2. Now when I get into it I’m down to around 16 in a hurry. My 07 Tundra i traded in on this truck got decent mileage especially after getting some miles on it. (250k miles and only replaced the starter) Not sure why so many people dislike the Tundra? I’ve been in new Fords Chevys and Rams and besides the Ram I don’t feel the ride quality is any worse on my Tundra. I really like my 2020 and it’s definitely a different ride overall then my 07. Has plenty of power imo and is plenty techy for me. And I like the assurance when I’m hunting or fishing in the middle of nowhere I can count on my truck getting there and me back home.
If I drive my 2.7 under 65 I get the EPA mileage of 23-24. At 75 it's more like 20, which is to be expected. And though not trouble free my Fords have never left me stranded in 20 years of driving them. A 4Runner did, though. Twice. Go figure. The biggest problem I have with Tundras is the real world payload ratings...most 4x4 crew cabs are around 1200 pounds or less. And crash test scores are worst in class, that's important to me in a vehicle I haul my family around in.
@@plmn93 when the tundra came out it was best in class in crash tests, but vehicles have really gotten good over the last few years, the tundra just happens to be the oldest design. None of these vehicles are unsafe by any means though. Ford is the leader now. But go back and look at the 2001 tundra vs the 2001 f150. Its scary how bad the f150 and ram did. The 01 tundra mopped the floor with everyone on the crash tests.nit was the only truck that the cab didn't buckle on the offset test and the only one that the door could be opened, but that goes to show how far everyone has come since then. There's really no unsage pickups in today's world. Im willing to bet the redesigned 2022 tundra will be the truck to beat and then the big 3 will step it up, and in the end we the customers win.
rochab77 you’re exactly right. Back in 07 when I bought my first Tundra it blew by the domestic competition in almost every way. There would be comments you don’t need all that power in a 1/2 ton truck and so on. I feel the 07 Tundra took the competition by surprise and really made them step up their game. And yes it is now outdated to a degree but still by far the most reliable truck you can buy IMO. I suspect the 2022 will shake the 1/2 ton market again. But the competition is good for the consumer. I just don’t quite understand how some consumers won’t give the Tundra a chance especially after having so many bad experiences with their domestic truck.
@@kross1261 people in the pickup segment are brand loyalist. I love the tundra myself, especially the engine. No direct injection or cylinder deactivation crap. Just an honest v8 that makes its max torque at a lower rom than any other v8 in a half ton. And for those griping about tech, the only thing really missing is a 360 degree camera. It has lazer guided cruise control and toyota safety sense with autonomous braking standard, which some of the competitors do not even offer. You have GPS, never, a jbl sound system option, heated and cooled seats available and a huge back seat in the crew max, the largest brakes in a half ton, the only half ton with. 10.5 inch rear end and the only one with a 4.30 rear end. The Aisin 6 speed auto is bulletproof and never has any hiccups shifting, and doesn't gear hunt. It always kicks down when I want it to. Definitely thw best programming of any transmission I've driven in a pickup. People just don't like Japanese, amd some people are just flat out gullible amd have know knowledge or common sense. People say "oh my 2 year old sucj and such has 60,000 miles and no problems. Well, its only 2 years old. Time tells more than mileage. You could buy a 20 year old car with only 25,000 miles and I guarantee youll have more problems than you will on a 2 year old vehicle with 75,000 miles because things age amd materials degrade, especially plastics. I love the Tundra, but I bought a titan xd for the cummins and the extra towing stability because thw truck weighs as much as some 3/4 ton trucks and the job I bought it for would require hauking heavy cement heads. But if I were looking for a half ton I'd have gotten the tundra hands down. Where I worked prior qe had alot of f150s, some rams and some tundras. The guys hated thw tundras because they weren't made by the big 3, so they drove the shit put of them. They were surprised how well they held up. In fact, the tundras were the onlynhalf tons that never had to go to the dealer for any problems. Couldn't say the same for the others.
I’ve never had any trouble with my 2003 F-150 but I have been planning to get a new truck within the next couple of years. I love the look of the Ram but don’t trust them. My cousin has a Nissan and its reputation with shitty transmissions eliminate them.Chevys don’t impress me with looks or drivetrain. Toyota’s have an excellent reputation for reliability but I don’t like the look of them and they don’t seem to discount like the big 3 will. I will keep watching reviews but if I were buying today, it would be an F-150 with the 5.0 V8.
I work at a Ford dealership and we have brand new vehicles on our lot with faulty cameras. Don't know where they're sourcing them from but they have major issues with them.
Shame you're experiencing these issues... I have a 2019 STX Supercab 2wd and had zero issues. I drive mostly highway and average close to the 26 on the trip computer which is usually about 1/2 to 3/4 over the actual, so a little over 25. I do live in rural coastal flat lands, where most highways are 55 mph. So, most of my driving is around 60. If I push it to 70 or above, I can watch the MPG computer drop quickly to the 23-24. So, I think anything over 65 is probably where the 2.7 (even with turbos) has to really work hard to push a giant brick through the air. At 70+ the trans will shift down to 7th or 8th to maintain that speed. Overall, I've been happy- hope your experience improves!
@bretc If your truck is downshifting at 70+ you must be going up some decent sized hills. I went on a 3000 mi trip this spring (‘18 supercrew, 2.7,3.55) and at 74 -75 mph I would get 24-25+ mpg consistently, some hilly areas, some flat. I actually got a solid 26 mpg at 78+ mph from Tulsa to Houston. Seems like it gets better mpg after using 3-4 tanks of gas, and all my figures were hand calculated, the lie-o-meter on the dash isn’t that accurate
2020 GMC AT4 w/6.2 here. Absolutely no issues and bought the truck 9 months ago. Getting 17 combined and cannot complain. 6.2 is best engine for a half ton currently. This guy is tough to listen to btw
I would have to agree with you. He loves to tell a BIG STORY and hell if he can help someone make some money, knock yourself out. I challenged myself to listen to the whole video........... my god, that's 20 minutes of time I'll never get back
Has it blew up yet? DOD engines are not Known for their reliability, it’s a lot of power but it is NOT reliable on the new models. Take a look at the parking lot for service and you’ll see a few trucks sitting there without a motor waiting for new ones.

Had a new hood installed as the paint and clearcoat was coming off. No engine issues and current all city driving is 21.4mpg...absolutely amazing fuel milage.
Just had my 2018 dash replaced. No issues and you can see the difference between dash’s . It’s thicker and beefier than the original. I have 2.7L and runs like a champ. At 70 mph I get 25 mpg with a big cap on the back. And if I use 93 Octane I can feel the difference. And engine is quiet as a mouse humming down the road. You tested all the lame engines. A 3.6 in a ram?? A 4 cylinder silverado? I get fuel economy but damn. The new titan is sweet but we understand it was too much meat for you
I am VERY GLAD I have a good, solid 2012 F150. Between the new prices and shit quality, I have fallen in love with my old ford all over again. Washing, waxing, preventive maintenance.... she's being treated like the last truck I'll ever own.
Yup! I know some guys who work at Ford dealerhips. Two are mechanics. They told me the only motors they'd buy are 5.0 if they tow, or the old school 3.3, until the turbo systems are proven. For me, I drove a 2.7 and 5.0. In terms of fuel, there is a noticable difference of about 3 mpg. Before you buy, rent a truck from Budget or Enterprise. It's worth the money. We're buying a 5.0. There is no comparison with performance.
There's been plenty of ecoboost trucks sold. Been selling the 3.5 since 2012 and there's plenty that have 200k miles. The engineers are essentially proven.
I bought a brand new 2018 ford f150 eco boost 3.5 January 2018. Long story short 35,800 miles cam phasers gone changed under warranty. Got the truck back Approximately 38,000 miles truck would stall at stop signs and red lights one time I was traveling approximately 65 miles an hour truck just stopped running. Took in for repair. Seven weeks later got truck back turned out it was a corroded negative ground cable thank god for extended warranty. 59,800 miles truck is scheduled for repair. Second set of phasers again. Mobile one full synthetic oil change at dealership every 3,000 miles. This is my third F150 I havent even started on what was wrong with them.
I bought a 2020 f150 xl extended cab with the 2.7 . So far no problems knock on wood . It doesn't really matter what you own everbodies mileage will vary depending if you put your foot into it or not . First big truck I've owned . Love it . My dealership has always done me right never any issues

I looked at the ranger too but went with the bigger f150 for a few bucks more a month. Great truck! Its a shame about the Tacoma, wicked looking truck but everything else about it was “meh”.

@@fastzenner The 2.7 , especially second gen is solid. In fact , after owning one it is Fords best motor gas. Unless you tow over 6k, the 2.7 is plenty.
I just bought a 2020 F150 STX 4x4. Let me help with a quick summary 1) Camera is a common failure with a massive recall. Mine was broken day 1. 10 days is an amazing turn around. I’m still waiting a month later. 2) MPG is at 20 mpg average, sticker is BS 3) No dash Issues, but the rubber lip above the glovebox is a small eyesore for warping Overall it’s a very comfortable big truck. Other than the 3 things he highlighted everything is really good. I’m happy with this big blue truck, especially coming from my 2019 Tacoma.
Plastic oil pan on engine and transmission is the every day problem. It can fail anytime and leave you with thousands of dollars in repairs. Plastic pans is just weight saving and that's what makes Ford go faster for repairs.
Plastic oil pan is the only part replacement available from Ford. You might want to contact chief engineer to confirm, which plastic material they use.
This is the type of guy who purposely looks foe things to complain about. Next time, he should research wkat he's buying and look at all the pros and cons. I have a 2018 f150 and I absolutely love it. Despite any flaws. Thanks for the video Tim!
Bought a 22 F150 with the 2.7 a year ago. Only truck I have ever bought that gets better gas mileage than the sticker. On back roads at 65 mph get in the high 20s. One year and 17,000 miles later, I'm happy as can be!😀
I had the exact same problem with the rear camera. It started flickering and then showed a rainbow colored grainy screen before finally saying “call dealership.” I crawled under the truck and unplugged it and plugged it back in and it’s worked fine ever since. It’s hot here in Texas, so maybe it is heat related.
The actual MPG you get from these Ford Ecoboost's seems to be far from the advertised numbers. Also, if you have to use premium fuel, I'd be skeptical of any real savings. Tundras will always be happy with cheap, regular fuel. That alone is like 20-25% of savings in final gas expenses.
My dad was debating on the v8 or the 3.5 eco boost, he tows a lot. He also daily drives it. I kept telling him the v8 would pull better and last longer and get better fuel mileage. He didn’t listen to me, and now he gets 16 mpg on the highway. My grandpas f150 with the v8 gets 20 on the highway.
You don't have to use premium fuel. It's not just about mileage, though real world data on Fuelly shows Ecoboosts have a real advantage. The Ecoboosts handily outperform the Tundra 5.7 doing truck duties. On top of that, the F-150 has significantly better payload, towing, comfort, handling, and safety. The Tundra has...reliability. Important for sure, but certainly not the be-all-end-all metric in what determines a good truck.
Whenever the ecoboost is under boost its going to burn more fuel than a non turbo engine because under boost a turbocharged engine has to run rich to avoid pre-detonation. A turbo engine cant run stoich like a N/A engine does.. As long as you're not using the turbo they get great fuel economy, but whem you're under boost its going to guzzle gas.
10:14-If he is the kind of guy that goes on the truck forums, how is it that he did not see any info related to problems with the same type of truck he bought.?
After seeing some of the shoddy work that leaves dealership garages, post repair....we DO. Using crimp-type connectors to "repair" a wiring in a harness that should be replaced, is practically criminal if you know anything about the difference between AC and DC electricity. As a customer, I just love it when Service Managers talk DOWN to me like I'm a moron. Your arrogance isn't a virtue when serving "knowledgeable" customers. Most of US would find another dealership with dealing with your poor attitude.🤔
We went looking for a end of year 2017 f150 5.0 but only found 2 over a 3 state area and the dealers wouldn't part with them they tried pushing the ecoboost on us.I said no thanks , bought a 4wd titan for 6k less then the same equip ford and it's been a awesome truck with zero problems . The ford sales guys didn't laugh when I told him turbos are for diesels.
I think all the manufacturers make a pretty good truck these days. I have a 2017 Titan, saved 20 grand by buying it 2 years old and it's still under warranty for 2 more years. Have had zero problems and tow a 27 foot travel trailer. The thought that Titans (actually made in America) aren't as good or capable is a myth the big 3 want you believe. I just averaged 19.5 mpg going 200 miles down the coast and back home in Washington, ill take 1 or 2 mpg less for 65 more horsepower than a 2.7 since I actually tow something.
I bought a 2021 STX 2.7 ecoboost 4x4 supercab. Two years and 35,000 miles later and I've had zero issues so far.....knock on wood. I've also had good luck with the Ford app, I use it every day to remote start my truck and sometimes to unlock the doors, mine does have the sync 4 system. I drive about 70% highway 30% city and I've consistently averaged 21-22 MPG. So far I love this truck.
A friend of mine just leased one of those trucks. He was hesitant to get a Silverado with that engine but the price was right for him. He actually likes it so far. I went for a ride and I gotta say it's peppy and runs smooth. Not as fast as the Ford 2.7 but decent. Time will tell how it holds up.
@@MrAbword It may turn out to be a very reliable engine. To new to say at this point. As far as less moving parts, not really. Have you watched any videos on it? It's pretty complicated and full of technology.
Interesting, I have a 2017 Ford Fusion Sport with the 2.7, heavily modified and absolutely have no issues with it. I broke the OEM lower rear motor mount, but that's with over 100's passes at the track. Currently at 48,000km, 1000's of track passes. no issues, at all with the power train. But, I'm very anal regarding the maintenance, and always change the fluids every year and oil at 5K.
I have a 2015 XLT 5 l and I didn’t have any problems until 40,000 miles when I had a rear brake squeak that required replacing the discs. I get 19 mpg on 87 octane since new. Tire wear was excellent. My rear camera cuts out when the outside temp is below 0. I’m thinking of trading for a 2020 with a 5.0.
I've had my 2020 F150 STX 4x4 2.7l ecoboost supercrew for less then 30 days here in Phoenix. I'm averaging 21 mpg combined and the transmission temp is usually 197° (its hot here) and the temp climbed to 205° while towing. Two days ago my rear camera was dark and fuzzy and then went blank with the same message. After a restart the camera is working but after seeing this video I'll contact the dealer. Thanks for the video.
I have driven dozens of new 2020 trucks many for long distances. I have personally experienced the backup camera issue many times. It was a very common issue as well as the screen freezing after a few hours of driving, not as common but it happens. I recently drove a 2020 Laramie and the truck would not lock the doors at night because it would stay in accessory mode. All of them have their issues lol
I think I have the same truck as him, except I have the 3.5L. None of the problems that he has, but I live in Nebraska and don’t have that kind of heat. My daily commute is 4.1 miles each way, and I get about 19 mpg, similar to the 2001 Honda CRV it replaced. I love the truck.
Thanks for your honesty , I was going to get f150 2.7L eco boost , but after what I heard from you I’m definitely out of the Ford’s market . I just simply can’t imagine spending around $60 plus for XLT package and have so many problems from the beginning , it’s absolutely unacceptable for me , I have 20 years old Lexus right now with no issues at all , nothing squeaks and my dashboard is in tact without any gaps , and I do live in hot state as well SC . I guess Ford will be Ford . Thanks again for honest feedback !
I think one of the worst things car enthusiasts can do is join a car forum. I was reading about somebody’s AC hose leaking onto their passenger footwell. The next day, I spent an hour checking for wet carpet (there was none). Next, someone complained about the steering wheel showing premature wear. I started to notice that my steering wheel looked a bit... worn. I took it to the dealer and demanded that they replace my 2 year old steering wheel (which they did... my SA is awesome). Next, people complained about sunroof rattle and talked about the need to lube the seals. I ended up lubing the sunroof seals on all my cars. The car forums are great to talk and banter, but man... they are full of people with car problems.
As a ford technician, I have a 2015 f150 2.7l. My dash also has small warps. I rather leave with the warps than pull my dash. You cant even notice it. I always use 91 octane, my 2.7 gets super sluggish on 87 octane when its over 90°.
Tough getting through this video. I have a 2016 Ford 150 XLT. Have had it for 5 years now. Not one issue. My MPG on the highway has hit 30MPG solid highest which is outstanding. That’s running cruise control and not accelerating unnecessary
I know the MPG on the Tundra is bad; I own one too, but I'm curious how many issues he had with it in comparison to this Ford. I think there is a pretty good argument that, if you truly rely on your vehicle every day, good MPG doesn't mean much if it is always in the shop wasting your time and you can't drive it. As he verified, MPG numbers do not indicate real-world driving.
Have a 2016 Tundra was great until 100000 miles and my emission system parts went.. charcoal canister , valve in gas tank, secondary air pump.. faith in tundra gone trading for a 2020 Ford eco boost 2.7
Maybe dealers want you to come in more often, so issues are fabricated. 2018 F150 crew cab alt 4x4 5.0 owner here. After 2 years of ownership, battery replaced, back up sensor replaced, oil consumption TSB performed, new dipstick, seat belt recall, 1 cylinder coil replaced, all done under warranty. Hopefully all the bugs are worked out, only have 2000 miles before warranty expires, at least have more time for drivetrain warranty. Still love my truck. Great interview, your viewer is quite eloquent.
Hopefully you bought extended warranty. My neighbor found fast use of extended warranty when factory warranty expires and he ended up with engine repairs, over $5k in repairs. By the way, he changes oil every 3k miles. But fuel dilution, make oil go bad fast.
So my brother and I got 2021 F-150's about 2 days apart from each other (him day before Thanksgiving, me the day after). Both fresh off the carrier to the lot, my brothers showed up that day, mine was still in the back all plastic wrapped. I got a Silver XL Supercrew STX 4x4 with the 2.7 and my brother got the dark blue XLT Supercrew chrome package 2x4 also with the 2.7 in it. I've got about 2k miles on my truck, getting about 24mpg and it's been great so far. My brother's truck had the engine seize up at around 1200 miles. Ford is still trying to figure out what exactly happened, but a breaker bar couldn't turn the crank, at least one spark plug was "disintegrated" as the dealer said and that cylinder was black or burnt looking. But no oil leak or loss from what they could tell. My brother isn't happy, doesn't want the truck back (early indications show Ford likely replacing engine) and would prefer Ford buy it back, or the dealer step up and get him in something else.
I'm getting 30mpg in mine. 1450-1500km per tank all the time 9.0 for 1000's of kms at best and 9.5 worst city and hwy. Add in the reserve and 1500 plus all the time
I don’t see any issues with this guys explanation / expectation of a new expensive truck, maybe a little long winded but he’s frustrated. I have been searching for months and bouncing in between all of them due to them ALL having issues. I read a lot of people that are ok with spending $40/$50/$60k+ for a truck that frankly isn’t reliable and yet, they are fan boys, oh it’s a truck, just top your oil up, have you seen how much oil a BMW uses, my 2003 Chevy has 300k miles etc. I appreciate this review and thank you for posting, anyone can fast forward or skip but a takes someone else’s dime to tell me everything I want to know.
That’s why I bought a Titan, yeah it’s not a popular truck but it’ll be around for 20 years and the “Big 3” will have a couple transmissions and multiple engine issues by that time.
You clearly didn’t research the Titan before you bought it, and hopefully yours is a 2020. That truck has had lots of problems over the years, to include cylinder scoring for the last couple of years, forcing Nissan to replace the motors. Their newest Pro-4X is pretty nice, though. I dig it.
Nissan in general is far less reliable than any American brand. The new Titans aren't bad though. The old frontiers are good too. Anything else made by nissan is total junk.
I recently purchased a 2020 F150 XLT and 30days later the rear camera stop working, I have been waiting for a month for a replacement part. I have notice my dash on the passenger side popping up a bit near the dash Seems the rear camera is the number one issue on the TSB site for the 2020 model.
“My wife loves her Tacoma. Not for a full sized man.” Dude probably doesn’t need a truck at all. I’m so sick of people that would be perfectly fine in a sedan buying trucks because they want to appear manly. It’s more embarrassing than it is anything else.
So... in short, for those who didn’t want to watch, his F-150 had 3 well known, non mechanical issues that were all fixed under warranty with minimal hassle. Does it still suck? YES, geezus I hate going to the dealer for small crap too. But hey at least it isn’t the engine problem the Nissans are having. I also have a 2020 STX with the 2.7 and I anticipate having these cosmetic issues as well, but that’s what the warranty is for. I bought it for the bulletproof 2.7. Also, if you check the owners manual, it tells you that the gas mileage won’t level out until after the 1000 mile break in period. You said you were doing hand calculating which is good, because the computer mpg doesn’t factor out idling and such. There’s also an eco mode you can put the truck in, not sure if you were using that. I haven’t hit but 600 miles so far, but am averaging 21.4 according to the flawed computer measurement with mixed driving in normal and sport mode. Mine is a 4x4 as well which will affect it a bit. Once it’s more broken in, I will switch to eco mode and do my own calculations to get a better measurements. The biggest thing I don’t like about mine right now is the 10 speed. It is still in the break in period which I have read is brutal, but man the shifts when coming to a stop are just rough and jerky. It’s getting better slowly but surely, but man it sucks right now. I have hope only because the shifts during acceleration have leveled out and are now butter smooth. Overall it is a great vehicle, small issues aside. Just remember to temper your expectations, 40k is a lot of money, but it’s not that much in today’s market.
Sorry u got a faulty 1. I custom ordered a 2019 lariat 5.0l last year, received it in august. Other than a reccall for a battery terminal, and a complimentary full syn oil change, no problems, no issues. With the 5.0l and autostop disabled via eliminator, i get 19 to 20 mpgs. Some Highway trips 23. If you still own the truck, you may consider an oil separator. They are easy to install, and will save unwanted oil going in your intake. Overall love my truck!
The Tundra is not bullet-proof. Failing rear axle seals, AIP failures (2), ECM issues related to inaccurate alcohol density readings, failing front-differential, leaking cam tower seals and creaking dash/door panels. All auto-manufacturers have their issues. I owned a 2012 Tundra and at 45k miles it got traded for another Silverado. It was definitely a down-grade from the 2005 Silverado I came from and the 2015 Silverado I currently own, in terms of overall build quality.
I bought a 2007 tundra and today it has 236000 miles on it. Replaced the starter but that's it. Where are all the problems you said tundra has. Explain that.
I just got a 2020 f150 STX 2.7 ecoboost. It had 5880 miles on it when I picked it up on 12/31/21. I’m now at 7000 miles. The check engine light came on yesterday. P0174. Bank 2 running too lean. Popped the hood and saw air filter housing wasn’t seated properly. Secured it correctly, cleared code, and check engine light came back on again today. P0174 and P0171, bank 1 & 2 too lean. A few other minor but odd issues as well. I may post a video in next week or so. Definitely happier with this truck so far though. My trade in was a 2011 STX 5.0 with the problematic 6R80 transmission. The only thing I miss about that truck is the sound of the CAI and exhaust.
Be glad Ford fixed your issues! I had terrible problems getting two different vehicles repaired under warranty and even was called a liar by a factory rep. The dealers agreed with me but the corporate powers wouldn't cooperate! No more Fords in my life!
Here is a 6-month update with a much different story on the truck: ruclips.net/video/inWhdWRtjBE/видео.html
Just my thought and opinion...if your buying a truck for fuel economy your buying the wrong vehicle.
my thoughts exactly.. im tired of these cry babys buying full size trucks and complaining bout mpg and tire noise
I think it's possible to want a truck, and want to have the best gas (truck) mileage. That goes to towing range and for simply not going broke at the gas station.

I’ve been in the automotive repair industry for 30 years and my experience is that the people that stay balls deep in debt on vehicles constantly are rarely ever happy with their purchases. Some folks just are beyond being satisfied with anything.
Read a book recently about working with money.

@@plmn93 My newest truck is 20 years old, I'll just keep it, thanks.

You are lucky. I have a wife that does that.
I work at a Ford dealership and we have brand new vehicles on our lot with faulty cameras. Don't know where they're sourcing them from but they have major issues with them.
Probably made in China
Mine was dead off the lot.
Hell. A Tundra would get 20 if you drove 60 everywhere.
In the Rockies at elevation and 85 mph, good luck getting over 17 mpg in any pickup.
My 2018 F150 STX pretty much the same. I drive on the highway at 77 mph. No problems at all.
@bretc
If your truck is downshifting at 70+ you must be going up some decent sized hills.

I learned the hard way, never ever buy a new truck! Wait 2-3 years until the manufacturer irons out the bugs!
well the 2.7 is 5 years old and so is the body... we are aware some of our cameras had issues aswell.
@@GhostlyGhille is that something that has mostly been resolved? I’m pretty close to buying one, but if I start having problems I’m not gonna be fun to deal with

I have a 2019 F150 FX4 w/2.7 Ecoboost. I have 5200 miles so far, changed the oil at 3000 miles. So far had a recall and SB performed, some other cosmetic issues.
I am a very happy camper and the engine is solid! Peace
have a 2016 2.7 f150. great truck. great gas mileage. no issues. 65K miles.
I love his comment about Scotty “tells the truth about everything, but tells you truth about nothing”. Very true!
I have a 2015 F150 Lariat with 2.7 ecoboost. Love the truck and no issues at almost 70,000 miles.
First rule to make your Car long life.

I have a 2019 ranger and I can tell you the ranger is faster and better on gas then the tacoma you made a wish choice getting away from toyota.
I looked at the ranger too but went with the bigger f150 for a few bucks more a month. Great truck! Its a shame about the Tacoma, wicked looking truck but everything else about it was “meh”.
I love my 2016 3.5 ecoboost F150 4X4 crew cab. 38,000 miles and no problems. I did put a catch can on it for the direct injection. I put my foot in it and average 17mpg and 22 Hwy. 2) MPG is at 20 mpg average, sticker is BS
3) No dash Issues, but the rubber lip above the glovebox is a small eyesore for warping

Plastic oil pan on engine and transmission is the every day problem. It can fail anytime and leave you with thousands of dollars in repairs. Plastic pans is just weight saving and that's what makes Ford go faster for repairs.
If you would watch this interview, you would realize his truck doesn't have a plastic oil pan. He crawled underneath and took a look. :)
3 oil pans and one transmission pan with in 2 years I hate the 2.7l
@@Pickuptrucktalk, he just doesn't know the difference between plastic oil pan and metal.
Plastic oil pan is the only part replacement available from Ford. You might want to contact chief engineer to confirm, which plastic material they use.

Own a 2017 F150. Just hit 100K KM or 60K miles no issues only oil changes every 8000 KM. On 2nd set of tires now.
I drive around 100 miles for work a day and I’m averaging 21.6 mpg with my 2020 f150 5.0 3.55 10 speed after 3800 miles
2018 3.5 EcoBoost 23 on Hwy. 18 city👍
10:14-If he is the kind of guy that goes on the truck forums, how is it that he did not

He is not educated on the truck. He talks a big game though. I own a 19 2.7. I love the motor, and truck.
As a service manager, I just love it when customers come into the shop and believe they know more about auto repair than we do.
Half the time they do. 🤷♂️
Yeah a Nissan isn't a good enough truck for him, but here's my 17 problems I've had in 1 month with my f150.
Nissan Titan is a very underrated truck with an amazing 400 HP engine.
Still one of the thirstiest trucks.
Need an interview like this about the 19-20 Silverado 1500. Im sure they’re complaining about that 2.7 turbo. Love the channel. 👍🏼
The 2.7 GM turbo engine is actually very reliable so far. Less moving parts
Some people should never be allowed even close to something mechanical. Your Fusion sounds awesome
Your drag racing a Fusion? Sounds idiotic
That camera will be the same unit in either an eco or five oh😳
I would never want my dash replaced unless I knew exactly who was doing it and trusted them.
They have an easy fix for the dash now, no replacement needed
Yes that's what forums are for. But they all have forums and they all are fun of problems. Cars and trucks are not perfect. NONE OF THEM!!
They're full of these guys......
Brian, brought up.subjects that I will be looking out for when I purchase my new F150. One man, really makes a difference‼
My computer broke just listening from this owner...he's got bad juju
Hopefully my f150 will keep going strong. 👍
If its useing oil , dump it now. It will only get worse. Mine also needed cam phasers and chains at 50k miles.
I have the same truck but it's a 2018. I get 22 average, it's really hard to keep my foot out of it. No issues after 2 years
So my brother and I got 2021 F-150's about 2 days apart from each other (him day before Thanksgiving, me the day after).
Add in the reserve and 1500 plus all the time
My rear view camera in my 2020 F-150 2.7 failed at 64 miles! Ford said the same thing about mine, three weeks to get it!
I couldn’t finish the video. This guy is the reason I’d never be a service advisor
Yet my 2019 Ram 1500 that everyone says is fiat junk with the 5.7 Hemi has 20.000 miles on it and hasn't been to the dealership once for anything.
Shut up dude. Come back when your truck has 150k mile and 10 years old.
Okay I also have a 2005 Dodge Ram with a 5.7 Hemi with 230k miles on it 🤷♂️ not one problem still the original engine and transmission
Cool I like Toyota tundras I'm not brand loyal no doubt there the most reliable trucks on the road.
And your ram will get the dog shit beat out of it if you try to pull on a f150 EcoBoost

i was always leaning towards gmc but ended up with ‘16 ecoboost 2.7 xl 60k now No issues. Still on original battery and brakes. Absolutely love it.
Not for a full sized man.”
Dude probably doesn’t need a truck at all. I’m so sick of people that would be perfectly fine in a sedan buying trucks because they want to appear manly. It’s more embarrassing than it is anything else.
His wife’s boyfriend approves of his truck choice
So... in short, for those who didn’t want to watch, his F-150 had 3 well known, non mechanical issues that were all fixed under warranty with minimal hassle.
Just remember to temper your expectations, 40k is a lot of money, but it’s not that much in today’s market.
what engine problems the nissan are having?
You should compare it with the best: Toyota. Ford will bite the dust big time.
@@Teporame interesting opinion
I'd like to hear both sides of the story
Sorry bout ur luck. My F150 2.7 does everything I expected (easily). More so actually. It shocked me from such small engine. Happy with it
