Scotty Kilmer you are breaking my heart! I had one of those, drove it for almost 10 years, and it never gave me an ounce of trouble. Only difference was mine was cherry red. I miss that car! The only reason why I got rid of it was because of my ex. To this day, I still regret getting rid of the car instead of her. 😅
Scotty, what's the best v6 highway cruiser from the 90s and 00s? I'm a big guy, so I need a big seat.
scotty my dad has a 2002 nissan frontier manual with 111k runs like a champ should i keep it?
I have a 98 camry with over 315k on it around 200 hp car rips still... eats oil and leaks oil mysteriously where I can't find it but not bad enough to pull it out with that many miles.... rippin car tho!
I have the same car but automatic
I got customers with wives. They are endless money pits, now and also when they age
Their trade in value is the pits, and you need to keep paying long after you get rid of them.
You guys are so funny!! Good comments.
My first car was a 2002 Sentra SE-R. Loved that car.
And just like that, all the 2001 Nissan Sentra SE Rs turned to gold with Scotty’s touch.
My dad’s 2001 Nissan Xterra is also a great car. He’s had it for 16 years, put over 300,000 miles on it, also drives like a maniac, and it still runs decent! No significant engine problems, mainly because the engine is iron instead of aluminum. The transmission is pretty bulletproof too! I don’t know what the new Nissan trucks are like, but the Xterra is definitely one of the best
Thanks for the Video..... I think the last Nissan that was any good was when they were still called a Datsun.
When I see those I think fart cans and loud bassy music

@Spidey Rocks yeah. Here in Chicago there are a lot of these that are riced
I like when he shows old cars.
I bought a SER spec V in silver in 2002 with 10k miles on it, hell that may even BE my old car. CRAP. The car would stall coming to a stop - Was faulty ECU soldering - I had the engine AND trans replaced thankfully under warranty then sold it. The Cat converter was too close to the head and the element would break up and get sucked back into the motor, causing massive oil consumption issues. The SER spec V was also 175 HP and not 200. It was fun to drive when it worked...
I own one, got unlucky, long story short spent around 3k rebuild engine and doing other things to it. I have a love hate relationship because the car has cost me so much yet, it's a fun car if you can find spec-v that isn't all beat-up. People don't expect you to be catching them at 60mph. And it isn't annoyingly loud.
That door handle is cooler than Tesla’s.
That poor Sentra deserved a better owner. I"m sure that in a few years, his Civic will look like crap too
My dad is a news paper courier so he is rough on cars, but he had a 99 nissan sentra (non SER) but he ran that thing even with the automatic for 300k miles with original drive train. I bought me a 2002 altima and even then it was a piece of crap wished i would have had that one and just fixed it up.
Nissan rocks!!! I HAD A '07 ALTIMA was a great car now have a 2015 Rogue runs like a champ at 20,000 miles only thing need replacing be original tires otherwise original brakes/battery/etc. It will need an oil changed after while as replacing spark plugs. Love that thing YES... HAS THAT CVT but the thing works fairly great has better pickup than the Altima even has that new car smell know SCOTTY wouldn't believe had it for 4 years purchased Oct of 2015 interior like brand new overall car is brand new just needs a good bath and headlights needs cleaning as well. So far taken great care of it since owned though wanted a pickup truck got the little ROGUE took few days get used to everything right now runs flawless.
Had 2001 Altima with 30 more horses than Civic or Corolla. It's peppy and fun when the passenger is skinny. :.)
It really is a shame. Nissan was so great back in the day. Every bit as good as its competitors
Scotty how about the low down on DEF and is it really robbing power.
My mom had a 2000 Sentra. Ran like a clock.
Lots of ticking?
Yeah, it would tick, and go bong now and again. 🤣
ITS CLOBBERING TIME!!!!!!!!!!! Completely different then the SER QR25
Scotty noticed me 😎
Your mom ran like a clock, that's real odd, my mom ran like a girl.
Toyota: handle breaks
Scotty: this piece of junk
Nissan: handle breaks
Scotty: it’s still a good little car
so TRUE!
Over simplified
Scotty is right though, I got a 2012 nissan versa and the transmission went very quick! :( Lesson learned stick with reliable.
😅😅😂
If your toyota's handle breaks, its crap, but if your Chinese made knockoff car has a broken handle, its amazing quality XD

But is it a gas hog like mpg is low?

FB market place have a bunch with the manual, but they need TLC
better be a twin turbo. ive had 3 of them their great, the 2+2 if you need extra seats, but ignore the regular 2 seater non turbo.
Back when Nissan’s Sentra SE-R genuinely gave the Toyota Corolla XRS and Honda Civic Si a good race.
Aye the modern Sentra leaves a lot to be desired, they need to update the suspension and give it a new engine to really let it compete.
The Toyota Corolla S never gave anything a run for its money
Toyota Corolla S wasn't even in the same class as this Sentra SE R...Honda Civic Si was however.
From 2004-2006, Toyota made a corolla XRS with was basically 4 door Celica GT-S. It had a 6 speed manual and the 2ZZ-GE engine from the GT-S. Revved to 8200rpm and produced 170 hp.
If you all find one, note that the 2zz has oil starvation issues. Just upgrade the oil pan to one from monkey wrench racing which increases the oil capacity and baffling.
Nah, the 2.5-liter QR25DE was a boring disappointment, a bit torquey but no high end reving…..the sr20det motor, now that was a GREAT motor. But too bad they didn't sell them in U.S....unless you had it imported.

Lol
of course. The maxima is a full sized sedan.
@Marney Olsonindeed. It's got the talk but it doesn't do the walk. Quite a shame, as it's certainly one of the better _looking_ "sport" sedans offered in the U.S.

The Sentra with an Altima engine and a Maxima Transmission. Loved those Spec V's!
Sorry but that was not a maxima transmission. If you recall, the maximas of that generation had a 5-speed until the 3.5L kicked in.
@@8Slinkies
The Maxima SE from '02~'03 was available with a 6 spd manual transmission: Internally, it's the very same as the spec v's (not sure about the helical LSD) with the exception of the other half of the transmission case; It had a built in bell housing that had to mate to the VQ35.
I just remembered this was an older comment....my bad.
@@MyCatInABox you may be right, I know the spec V Sentra 6spd was a direct replacement for an '02 Tiburon 2.7L.

I had a 2002 SE-R Spec V. It was fun and tossable. Those things were solid as long as you put locktite on the butterfly screws in the intake manifold and swapped the header out for an after market one because the precats had a bad habit of breaking up and being sucked into the engine.
Still got mine
I loctite all the screws when i got mine back in the days. I think the car was only 2 years old and two of the screws were quite loose already. It was reliable but did not like the fact it did not have reverse lock out. One of the reason i got rid of the car.
Yeah I just bought a 03 spec V and the previous owner said he never used 6th gear because he was scared of grinding reverse lmao.
@@andrewbartleman9169 The trick is just always shift to 5th first and then just bump it straight back. You don't even have to let the clutch out in 5th, just go into the 5th gate because there's no way you'll bump over to reverse from 5th accidentally.
He had to have knocked the pre cat out of this thing, at the very least. I remember many owners opening their intake manifolds to Loctite their butterfly screws only to find one missing. lol
Damn it....Scotty found the Sentra
I had 06 Altima SER and to this day it was my favorite car

Nissan also had an even faster version of the Nissan Sentra SE R called the SPEC V.
That was the version to get

In 2001 to 2004 SER designated the ones with 2,5 lt engine and automatic transmission, SpecV was added in those with 6 speed manual transmission... this one is only missing the emblem. Regards.

Hey Scotty whats your opinion on the 2001 Nissan Maxima do you think its still a good car like that sentra
2001 is one of the last good Maximas. I love my 1998.
Former 2003 SE-R spec v owner checking in! I loved the car.
I would totally agree with Scotty here if we was talking about the B15 Sentra SE 2.0 which carried the SR20DE over from the previous 2 generations.
That Sentra has the first run of the QR25DE which suffered from problems with the pre-cat material breaking up and being sucked back through the engine. Easy fix- swap it for a cat less header (what I did) or try your luck with the Nissan fix which reflashed the ECU.
The other problem was with the screws on the butterfly valves coming loose and being sucked into the intake. Easy fix was unscrew them and apply loctite before screwing them back in.
I’m guessing this owner got that stuff or is super lucky. Either way I’m happy to see a B15 Se-r alive and kicking.

I’ve got a ‘95 Altima GXE, with nearly 190,000 miles on it - and it runs beautifully 🙌🏼 It’s got some wear, obviously, but it’s an incredible vehicle. Those 2.4l 4-cylinders will run themselves into the ground before they stop working.
I miss my Mitsubishi 1985 Cordia Turbo
All cars back then were built well 😔
That Year Nissan did not the Horrendous "Junko" Automatic Transmission
Chevy Citation X-11 Very cool name. 👍👍👍👍👍
Chevy Citation X-11 I remember being in the Navy in the 60s and my ship docked in Sasebo Japan. I took a taxi to the top of a mountain near the naval station. The taxi was a Nissan The driver drove almost like he was a kamikaze pilot.
My old 1971 Datsun 510 was a great car.
“Those Jatco Junkers!” 😂
Scotty, just bought a sentra 2002 from a private seller with 91k miles for $1800. Has bad sway bars but for $380 my mechanic will fix it. Has pep and drives good. Will make a good back up car for x number of years. Don't laugh, it's paid for. The paint job looks just like yours in this video.
My 2002 Nissan Sentra xe going 247k miles strong. Keeping the fluids changed and it's happy.
Automatic or Manual??
@@AustinMBecker automatic. Just drain and fill tran fluid. Never flush
Hi. What engine does it have? Is it the
QG16DE ?
My mom has a 2006 Sentra with 320k miles never had a problem out of it
Hi. What engine does it have? Is it the
QG16DE ?
Yes sir I had one production started November of 01 its really a 2002 ser spec V great car but had a ECU issue rides like it's on rails limited slip def made it turn on a dime 2004 was the decline of the sentra/Nissan design and quality went down the tube... Scotty you rock bro!!
The ecu ground wire short out on them run a jumper wire and good to go.👍
ALEX FLORES get The ecu remaped put some cams And 200+ hp its possible
you know what?....i wanna hear Mr Scotty tell a "DEEZ NUTZ" joke 😅
PANTYEATR1 - Got Eem💕
I miss my 89 Toyota Corolla GTS and my 1991 sentra SE-R. Wish I had them both parked in my garage with my 06 SE-R Spec V. I'd feel like the poor version of Jay Leno 😎
The price of those Nissan Santra going high already on crislist becosue of you Scotty 😂
Scotty there was no 6spd option on the Sentra in 2001. This is a SE-R Spec V. It came out in 2002. And these cars although I love them (I owned one) are garbage. The first gen qr25 is awful. Just google precat failure and butterfly screws. And bc of the open deck design they blow head gaskets like crazy. Oh and horse power is 175 at the wheels. Definitely not 200.
I miss my spec v. Fun car for so cheap
I had a 2005 spec v with a baby turbo
Damn what a sleeper! Almost as good as a Dodge Shadow 😁👍🏻
My sister has a 2000 Nissan Maxima with a V6. It is still running good.
I love my 1998 Maxima! It was my mom's for 17 years, and then she had to stop driving for health reasons and she let me have it, I hope I can make it last another 17 years!
I own one of these, a 2002 GXE with the 1.8 and the automatic transmission(these don’t have a CVT!). It had some problems that were typical of an older car, but after repairs it has been very dependable. The gas mileage is amazing! I need a new door handle too though 😂
What problems?
I have a 04 model, I'm always having to go to junk yard to find sun visor because the spring inside breaks down.
Scotty those QR25DE engines were hot garbage. I had a 2005 Altima with the same engine. Catalytic converter started to go at 80K miles but because of how some genius designed the engine the damaged catalyst substrate got sucked into the intake manifold and into the engine, scoring the piston rings. ANY Nissan with the QR25DE is junk and I’d be shocked if that thing is the original engine with that mileage.
