It seems like it has pretty good specs for a pretty cheap prefab. It's solid, got a rounded port, poly fill. Is it possible that it was 32hz instead of 36hz because the sub you out in it? I imagine it is tuned to 36hz with one of the subs skar sells preloaded in that box. Your subwoofer does have slight bearing on your box tuning right? Some subs would take up more space than others but can performance have an effect? Say you have two different 15in subs. Both take up the same space inside of the enclosure but one has am Xmax of 15mms, and the other a Xmax of 25. Would this cause you to have a different tuning?
@@DIYAudioGuy That's unfortunate, I needed one so I bought it. I wish I could've gotten it at the price you did. Do you still think it's a good box? Or that there are better ones out there?
Here's an idea. Remove the Polyfil from inside the enclosure and retest to see if the tuned frequency changes. I'm betting the number will rise to near 36Hz. Also a good way to demonstrate the effects of Polyfil on a ported enclosure. 👍
Ya poly fill will lower your box tuning but I'd rather not use it, I noticed it does get lower but it is not as punchy in my opinion, especially if you listen to rock music and things of that nature
That sounds like a great idea!. I'm not too familiar with polyfill in ported or vented enclosures. I've only used polyfill back in the old school days in small sealed boxes
When I built my own enclosures years ago, I went as far as gluing leftover ceramic floor tile on the inside, just to make it more solid. Adds a considerable amount of weight, however.
Great video I own the 15 inch version of this box with a TXX- BDC4 Audiopipe 15 dvc2 and it is by far the best "prefab" box I've ever owned. And in my opinion this box is FAR superior to those other boxes you compared it to the build quality is and materials used are leaps and bounds above those other boxes especially the one you showed side by side they actually don't even come close to the quality of the Skar box 👍🏽👊🏽✌🏽💯
@@DIYAudioGuy I used to have a buddy back in high school who was an electrical genius & built his own amps and custom system. At one point he had four 18" Kickers in a sealed box shoehorned in the back of a VW diesel Rabbit. That goofy hatchback would hit so hard that your ear drums would tickle from the subsonics! 😂
I went with the Skar box & 10" DDX-10 Skar subwoofer in dual 4ohm. I haven installed it yet but it looks like one of the nicest boxes & subs I've ever bought. It's awesome how the technology has gotten so much better & the price has gone way down today. Can't wait to hear this thing!
I've had mine over a year loaded with a SVR 12 on a Taramps 1800.1 (overkill), gain is basically a nipple flick above damn near off and this setup pounds so hard. Best prefab box I've ever used. It's almost as good as a preloaded JL audio HO box, but super affordable.
Been running my 12”vxf in the skar box for over 7 months the bass is deep and the build quality holds up. I only wish I could fit 2 in my trunk. The dual box is huge.
Skar probably use their own subs to get the T/S parameters to design the box. Sticking a different brand woofer in there with different parameters will yield different results. Id assume.
Speaking of which.. Do you have any experience with skar speakers? I've been thinking about buying some of their mid woofers as they are reasonable price and I've heard they source their parts from the same place as sundown and I've been told quality from them is on a similar level.
@@trev6783 The more expensive stuff is probably as good as Sundowns cheaper stuff. Skar is fine for what it costs. Even then, there are better budget speakers out there produced by better brands. Id take a Rockford sub of Skar or Sundown any day.
I put a Skar SDR12 in may wife's car and if have 0 complaints. Great entry level sub. I've been putting about 200 watts over the rated rms with zero issues.
@@1rexrex Could you elaborate on why rockford or sundown is better for price? I mean I understand that both of those companies make quality audio components. But is there a specific reason you think Skar at a lower price point doesn't compare or what issues their speakers might have?
Easiest way to get it out of the box - open the cardboard flaps outward, turn the box over, lift cardboard box off of subwoofer, LOL. looks like decent build quality. I'd find a way to add a center brace from top to bottom.
5:45 This is because the volume and port lenght + diameter depend on the Thile & Small parameters. This is the electrical and mechanical data of wich you can calculate the needs for the chassis. There are some additional parameters of how the box will sound in the end (the Q factor f.e.). And over all there are some ways to get a lower -3dB frequency (mostly some Hz under the tuning frequency) with a special crossover. The tune frequency will even drop some Hz when the Chassis is 'burned-in' (using the sub for some time).
If I had to pick one of the three enclosures to use in my daily 🧐…. Id go with the one that compliments whatever woofer I’m using the best to my liking 🔊🔊🤓 ---great upload👍👍
Ive got this same box with a skar evl 12" and ds18 3500 amp in my scion Xd. Couldn't be happier with the bass. Thanks for another great video!!! Awesome channel man... 👍
@@jessshelton9326 EVERYONE knows that 🤦🏽♂️People like you don't understand that not everyone has access to a good box builder or can afford it or has or wants a huge box that takes up every inch of usable trunk or hatch space .For most a good quality "prefab" like this one is ABSOLUTELY fine.👍🏽👊🏽✌🏽💯
ReDmAn yeah but then you have people complaining on why it isnt loud enough . people buy a badass sub stick in a prefab and wonder why their subwoofer pops on lows/highs . at the end of the day doing a little bit extra is always needed considering youll probably want a new “louder” system a year into owning it
Concerning the back panel for the vent, once that section of the vent maintains the same CSA as the section on the side, it should be fine. Even better would have been if they flared in inside opening just like the did the outside one, but that would have required a bit more work on the box and likely made it more expensive. Things I'd like to see with a prefabbed box: 1. Ditch the carpet. Duratex, Warnex, or something similar should be used. 2 .Speakon terminals, not binding posts. 3. Proper internal cross-bracing 4. Tunable (via internal removable vent panel).
Lol do you know how much more that wld increase the price of the enclosure, Again lol ,tunable port, most custom boxes don't even have that unless its some sort of aero port or circular tube port .🤔
@@redman4076 It shouldn't increase it by much. Basically make the last panel in the vent in two pieces, one of which is removable (screwed into place). To tune to a specific Fb, overlap those two panels by a specified amount. The company building the box can go one step further and actually mark off on the inside of the box the vent panel lengths to achieve a target Fb.
@@Grommet2007 I'm mean it sounds simple enough but on a large scale of production those modifications could wipe out any real profit margin and at that point it's not really a prefab it's becoming a custom enclosure and then why not just get something like a Bobby Gately flat pack prefab box But I understand where your coming from 👍🏽👊🏽✌🏽💯
I bought one of the Skar boxes with an 8" Skar D2 in it... that box is very solid, especially for a pre-fab. And for $92 for the box and the sub included... very very hard to beat that.
First off, luv all your videos and learned some new stuff.. I been on the fence about the dual skar box it's also tuned to 32hrz.. for two new audio legion maximus subs...
@@redman4076 I am still searching for one. So far "decent" is the best I have found. So far people have really enjoyed my three videos on prefab subwoofers. If that keeps up I might make a video on another one.
Wish there were prefabs built that were tuned lower than generic 30Hz+ Maybe I need to get into the prefab market. Get a CNC machine and make some low tuned boxes ready to drop a sub in. Would need to figure out logistics. But it could be worth doing. I can dream...
Do it we bass heads wld love a quality "prefab" box with lower tuning but most people that listen to actual music 30ish hertz tuning is completely fine But go for it my friend there's a big market for quality products 👍🏽👊🏽✌🏽💯
@@redman4076 Yeah the normal range seems to be 30-40Hz. I think if I were to make a custom prefab I'd need to look into a handful of common woofers and see if they would work in something like 20-25Hz tuning for the lows. Then make a few and see if I can get them out there and see if people like them. (Maybe make one and test it out first) I'm still in the process of getting tools so this'll take time but I think it'll be nice to have something that would kill the low lows and still sound great with common drivers people might be interested in.
@@JoshM7 Yep yep for sure there's definitely allot of work involved but if you make a quality product that performs it'll sell I wish you the best and truly believe there's a market for your talent 👍🏽👊🏽✌🏽💯
I feel ya on the speaker leads being too short. Had the same issue on my Skar dual 12" enclosure. Really hard to load Type R 12's with one set of hands.
When you measure the width of the mdf it looked like both times it was closer to 1 inch thick instead of 3/4 inch, some subwoofers will not fit based on the amount of space available between top and bottom wall, for anyone who is considering this box check your measurements
@@DIYAudioGuy it's seems very similar to my sundown sa 12. The EMF doesn't play the lows well below 30 hz but that's kinda expected .its hard to say because my other set up is 2 sundown SAv1 subs in a different ported box that I've had for a since high school(10 years) . I've had the EMF on a rockford 1000 watt amp at 1ohm for over a year as a daily driver and it's holding up good inside the same skar box. no coil rub,the suspension still feels solid. The EMF is really similar in sound and build to the Sundown except the basket. I purchased it on sale for like 160 i think 2 years ago and it's been a good deal
I have the 15 inch enclosure with a soundcubed hds15d.2 and it hit crazy lows in my Integra hatch. I'm not disappointed in Skar Audio prefab enclosure. I love it💪💪💪💪💪
I to own the 15 inch version with a TXX-BDC4 Audiopipe dvc2 15 and it hits pretty hard of a custom box would be ideal but for what I paid I have absolutely no complaints except the short internal speaker wire I have no hesitation suggesting this box to anyone looking into a "prefab" box 👍🏽👊🏽✌🏽💯
@@DIYAudioGuy Will do man. I'm trying to gain some confidence in building my own boxes so your box videos are very helpful. Plus its hard to find the right size box with the right tuning frequency.
I have the Skar Audio single 10" Armor box and it needed some work to sound right. Tuning was in the high 30Hz range. I used "Boom Mat" and re-carpeted the inside. What that did was completely smooth out the bass. It now sounds MUCH better...less rigid and echo-ie (sic). Tuning dropped to the low 30's too according to my test equipment. The Kerf (curved) porting is nothing new, but increases SPL with no huff/chuff port noise. These boxes are "semi" Kerf...not a true Kerf.
Skar Audio products are usually very good. I'm using four Skar Audio IX-10 D2 wired at 4 ohms in a bridge mode on a Crown XLS1002.(1100 watts) for home audio. it's not easy tuning them to the lowest frequency possible. I had to do a lot of research to get them down to 32hz. two subs in each enclosure but separated on the inside with two separate ports. off course I could have bought much more expensive subs like the UM10-22 10" Ultimax DVC Subwoofer. but the drawback of my situation I wanted 4 subs. I was not going to spend over $1000 just on the drivers just to get 21fs lower frequency..
The frequency tune of the box is lower because the motor is so small on that sub, there for takes up less space in the box, and there for giving the box a lower frequency tone
After testing several enclosures, with all of them reading a lower tuning frequency than expected, a more likely explanation is that there's something wrong with my DATS.
I have that box with a 12" Skar SVR in it. Seems to peak around 36-38hz for me. Definitely a solid box, though and a good choice if you don't feel like, or can't, build one. I agree with the short wire comment. That is probably the most common complaint I see but some people claim it is to help avoid having a wire banging around but I assume it is a cost saving measure. There is enough there but it takes a bit of effort. I have heard that lip at the top and bottom can cause fitting issues with some brands of subs but don't recall which ones at the moment.
Yea, I like the look of the lip and it will help protect the cone (i.e. can't slide the cone into the rear of the back seat when you slam on the brakes). But, you are right. If you have a sub with a larger outer diameter this enclosure may not work.
I have the skar box with carpet. Paired it with the skar ddx 12 . It gets pretty low and aggressive for one 12 . My amp is a planet audio pl3000 1d . I know this amp is not pushing 1500 watts . Cheap usually means fudged numbers .
I just received my box today but have 1 12 ddx coming soon but I noticed the subwoofer measurements the cut out diameter is 11.25” but the box cut out diameter says 11.00” so my question is, will my ddx fit in this box??
Best prefab I owned is the hifisound 18” subwoofer box put a sundown x18 in it 1” MDF think it was 6 cubes and guessing box was tuned to 30hz-32hz did ok custom box is better of course but still good when you don’t gotta make a mess or even have to loo for 1” MDF I can’t seem to find 1” anything really
I've had several commenters on my videos mention those boxes. I was able to find some one-inch material when a local cabinet shop was giving away some free leftovers. It makes for a very dense and very heavy enclosure.
@@DIYAudioGuy they make some good cheap boxes just wish they made better enclosure for shipping instead of just a thin cardboard box I wouldn’t expect anything big ran in the boxes except the 18” cause all the other boxes I think are 3/4 thick but maybe with added bracing you could possibly some other than entry lines in em but like I said nothing competition grade
@@hbn_666 That doesn't make any sense so your saying run an 18 but everything else is going to be to heavy except entry level subs lol The 18 is the heaviest sub lol 🤔 I mean unless your getting dumb with 20to 32 inch subwoofers which no-one wld waste there time with a prefab 🤦🏽♂️
@@redman4076 no the 18” you can easily run a x18 in it it’s built right just the 15’s and 12’s aren’t made for the larger subs don’t ask me why they dont just make the 12’s and 15’s more sturdy I don’t own the company or build the boxes
Right, the cheap box is tuned higher so that's kind of what you should expect. If you just want to get loud and don't really care about hitting those nice lows I guess the cheap box is okay.
Very useful these are. I have a couple myself. Got an El cheapo from harbor freight and a really nice high precision one from a tool truck back when I worked on cars for a living. Very handy and quick for those centered holes
Got their 8" model and 2 18" models. The 18" model paired with a SKAR EVL 18", or a Sundown U18, hits the lows impressively well while still hitting the highs. There 8" does pretty good too, I got subs that match the specs for these enclosures almost perfectly.
I was thinking of buying the 18" box and pairing it with the sundown u-18. How does the EVL 18 sound compared with the u-18 in this box? Are they comparable or is the u-18 noticably better? Not a huge price difference between the two but if the EVL sounds similar might as well save the $60 or do dollars...
@@taylorbarrett384 The U-18 is noticeably better, with a much cleaner sound. The EVL is loud, but not as smooth as the U-18.. There is a V2 of the U-18 that came out, I have yet to hear that.
I have a gothic 12 (Walmart special) in the skar box and I have to say it hits the lows and sounds pretty good. My only complaint is the loudness, but I'm sure with a better woofer that would change.
I have this box. It didn’t hit lows as much as I wanted so I keep my sub inverted which helped a little but still doesn’t hit lows as much as I’d like. Kinda wish I built my own box a little bigger
Lol we bass heads are funny Its NEVER enough.Even if you built your own box that was "bigger" eventually you'd be saying you need something "bigger" or LOUDER or hits lower 😂 Its like when you jump in water and at first its cold but then you get used to it and its normal .Bass head problems lol 👍🏽👊🏽✌🏽💯
I have this box with a 12” 1500w deaf bonce apocalypse sub and matching amp, … it slaps pretty hard, but I think I need a bigger box for my lil hatchback 😆
Only real issue I've seen with this box on parker Parkers channel he's had issues with the overhang not allowing the larger framed subs to fit with the gasket still installed but without it they will squeak in, obviously you can still seal it with a foam gasket material or something underneath but not an ideal situation aesthetically. It looks as if your not using a high excursion sub you could possibly set it down firing? Shure would load the driver good but may not work well with that small of a clearance. Great comparo tho. I know which I would want if I went prefab, they get a bad rap so many act like they just won't work... Imo if it's decent construction, the right CF and the right tuning why not...usally the standard sizes offered you usually can find a match it will work just fine.
I'm using this exact same Box in my 2013 Acura TSX. I have it loaded with a Memphis MOJO Pro Dual 2ohm VC(750watt RMS) on a SKAR RP1200 wired to 4ohms(500watts RMS) & the gain set at just under 50% to safely break in the Subwoofer. Once the Sub is fully broken in I may either add a true 750watt RMS Amp or add another Single 12" Skar box and Memphis subwoofer. Right now the box is facing the cabin with one of the seats down to really let that BASS in. I got some trunk & rear quarter panel flex but man does it sound Good!!! My question is would it be better to get a Tru Spec box built to the exact size Memphis calls for(2.5qft) or add a second Skar box & Memphis sub box face the second box in the opposite direction (rear ward) & wire both off the RP1200 @1ohm(just over 1200watts). I want as much SPL as possible without going to a Competition Subwoofer & I know more subs equals more Cone area. But would 1 properly sized box(2.5qft) and the full 750-800watts be better than 2 slightly smaller boxes facing opposite directions?🤔?
Both options are around the same $$$. A Tru Spec box is about $225+$250 with the 750-800watt amp being about the same so $450-$500. A second SKAR Box & Memphis MOJO would be around $100-$125 for the Box & $250-280 for the Sub. So the second option is a little cheaper & I get double the cone area. But smaller boxes than Memphis calls for. Plus I'd keep the same SKAR amp to run both, and is running 2 subs in opposite directions a bad idea??? So it's 1 sub in a properly sized box with a properly powered Amp. Or 2 subs slightly under powered in slightly smaller boxes??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Should've used a sub the box was built for. Put a vxf in there and see what happens. I have the 15" version of this box with a SKAR sdr 15" and also the 15" SKAR EVL loaded enclosure. Both boxes were built for the subs in them so they hit nice and hard. Sticking a random sub in there would produce unpredictable results depending on the needs of the sub. I agree they need to add 6" of wire. Good video. Btw, if I got a box with a cracked baffle I would have it replaced. The customer service at Skar is quite good.
Love your content! I’m thinking of gettiing the 10” version of this Skar ported box for my Alpine Type S. The Skar specs say it’s tuned to 39Hz. I listen to all kinds of music, especially soundtracks that tend to have really low bass tones. Is 39Hz too high a tuning frequency generally speaking?
First thing I did when I got my dual 12" is change out the wire, the quality was there but how the hell you supposed to hook a sub up damn near inside the box! Also, mines front facing, tuned to 32 hz, got mine from skar who claimed wall thickness of 3/4" . It does sound pretty good but I have only had a set of EVL'S and VXFS with the fs pretty low around the tuning of the box,, I'm sure the alpine Rs will sound ok but I'll build another more suited for them. Thanks for the video always enjoy your thoroughness
Hi..glad I discovered your channel! I'd love to see a comparison on single 12 inch sealed prefab boxes. I'm debating the box vs building a custom fiberglass enclosure using a recess on the drive side area I'm the trunk of a 19 Challenger with the factory Alpine system. So I'd have to use the correct amount of fiberglass layers and bracing. Subscribed!
I've had good luck just throwing subs into old home theater sub boxes with the electronics removed. They tend to have low tunings and you can get them for free when people have blown them
I did this with a Sony xplode 12", thing was giving more exspensive setups a run for their money. Old theater boxes are underrated and you can get them for cheap.
I won't lie, it's a great prefab as far as prefab boxes go, but what it will never beat are custom boxes. My custom box sounds SO much better compared to these. I have a birch custom box built by somebody who isn't even a pro, it's tuned the same and manages to go deeper and sound flatter. I'm not saying don't buy one of these, but if you have the option of getting a custom box, just do it. I was skeptical too, but when my bass went from boomy to deep, I was so surprised, best $200 spent.
Yes sir. Thanks for the reply. I must say, out of all the channels I comment on, you are the most interactive with your viewers, your time and knowledge is much appreciated.
Just to have a decent system I bought. 12 inch skar box and installed a kappa 1200 sub ..and I'm using a rockford fosgate x500 somthin or nother... (650 watts rms Peake) and the shit slams for what it is...I get the sub asks for 2.5 but shit...bet you won't be disappointed...
Hey - did you have to modify the opening to fit that Kappa 1200? I'm debating between running an old Kappa Perfect VQ or a Kappa 1200W in this box. I have both, the Kappa models slightly better in WinISD, but in real world I think the VQ sounds better.
Question… the comp r 12 is rated for a sealed box, does it perform better in a sealed box or the skar ported box? Asking because I’m wondering if I would be better off with the skar dual 12 box instead of the wedge box I currently have behind the seat in my crew cab which is a cheap Amazon special with about .6 cubes per sub. It gets loud, I just think I’m choking the subs.
Kickers website list minimum and maximum enclosure size for both ported and sealed boxes for the comp r12. There are minimum sealed enclosure is one cubic foot. So, yes I suspect you are starving those subs for airspace.
I think you will get more output in a ported enclosure. Pop the speaker out of the box and push it in a few times. Listen for a scraping sound. Then measure the resistance of the coils with a DMM. If all of that is good then the sub is probably fine.

Came across your video looking for an answer to a question and I'm guessing you might be able to help me. Everyone will think this is crazy, but I have a dual MTX speaker box from my truck now in my house standing staight up. It's hooked up to my old Sansui receiver and sounds good. Problem is, my cats love to perch on it and I'm wondering if I can screw a board on it with 2-4 short screws along the edges without hitting wires. The ribbon tweeter is horizontal along top. Thanks, from a girl that knows her car but not good with stereos. 😊
Probably yes. The enclosure is probably 3/4-in material, you just need to use a screw that won't poke all the way through it. I'm not sure how it's going to stop the cat. Cats tend to do whatever they want.
According to the specs on amazon this one is slightly bigger: amzn.to/3GaSlIS So it is the one I would pick. But I don't think it will make a big difference either way.
I got mine from the Skar audio website but, it's loaded, not empty. The design is slightly different than this. Mine has the Skar audio stitching on top of the box, the terminal cup says Skar SDR 600w rms 1 ohm. Also, on their site the specs say the single loaded 12" is tuned to 34hz not 36hz, 5/8 MDF not 3/4 2.00cbft. I wonder why they did it different for the empty prefab boxes?
I have a Skar SDR12D4 that I just got. Been looking at boxes but can’t decide which would be best for hard rock and metal. Should I go with this Skar box or a sealed box. I don’t listen to music at high volumes, just normal listening volumes. I’m not looking to shake peoples windows, I just want that low extension to sound good and deep at lower volumes. What you recommend.

Any update on the sub and box? I’m interested in buying the SVR skar, maybe even a DDX we’ll see haha
@@brandondannys-menary3678 ddx or vxf you won't be disappointed
I've had mine over a year loaded with a SVR 12 on a Taramps 1800.1 (overkill), gain is basically a nipple flick above damn near off and this setup pounds so hard. Best prefab box I've ever used. It's almost as good as a preloaded JL audio HO box, but super affordable.
Are there better boxes out there? I'm sure there are, good luck finding one for 80 bucks.
Been running my 12”vxf in the skar box for over 7 months the bass is deep and the build quality holds up. I only wish I could fit 2 in my trunk. The dual box is huge.
Awesome!
Skar probably use their own subs to get the T/S parameters to design the box. Sticking a different brand woofer in there with different parameters will yield different results. Id assume.
True.
I always just cut The cardboard because I'm going to have to break it down anyways.
I love that you always use kicker comp r subs for demos since I bump kicker cvr's. It gives me such a good idea. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
👍
If I had to pick one of the three enclosures to use in my daily 🧐…. Id go with the one that compliments whatever woofer I’m using the best to my liking 🔊🔊🤓 ---great upload👍👍
Absolutely! It really is about matching the box to the woofer.

@@jessshelton9326 most prefabs are a bit undersized in my opinion.
Things I'd like to see with a prefabbed box:
1. Ditch the carpet. Duratex, Warnex, or something similar should be used.
2 .Speakon terminals, not binding posts.
3. Proper internal cross-bracing
4. Tunable (via internal removable vent panel).
You're exactly right, as long as the cross section is the same on both parts of the advantage should be okay.

Kicker was my 1st pair in 12s and then i went to 2x 15inch L7 subs in a ported box and they slammmmmed hard with a audiobahn amp
The carpet makes it look a bit thicker, and you are right. That lip can get in the way.
Great input in this review!I have the 15 inch single enclosure from skar for my EMF lowballer and it's been pretty decent.
Do you like the lowballer?

@@Brian1. I hear you man!
I have both Skar boxes. They both sound good. The Carpet one looks better tho..
I agree.
I lot of speaker builders recommend some stuffing or lining inside of the enclosure to get rid of that echo sound.
You gotta get the air Sound waves Insulated for low Bass air waves then increase your wattage! Get them Bass air waves to 15 Hz.

Oh yeah! Good stuff.
There's a reason why Skar is so popular.
Dont block the air baffle hole! You need that open to let out the bass air waves!
@@DIYAudioGuy Yeah, I like that lip as well, looks nice and offers protection.

A woofer like that needs a custom box, you can probably get a lot more out of it.
Right, you just have to do some research and find the best one for your sub.

I think that's a little bit too high, but that's just my opinion.
Just test and listen! Youll know which box design is the best sound!!
Yea, the wire is an issue.
Subscribed!
Most sealed pre-fabs are far to small.
I've had good luck just throwing subs into old home theater sub boxes with the electronics removed. They tend to have low tunings and you can get them for free when people have blown them
Clever!
I did this with a Sony xplode 12", thing was giving more exspensive setups a run for their money. Old theater boxes are underrated and you can get them for cheap.
Speaking about el cheapo...those drills :P

I won't lie, it's a great prefab as far as prefab boxes go, but what it will never beat are custom boxes. My custom box sounds SO much better compared to these. I have a birch custom box built by somebody who isn't even a pro, it's tuned the same and manages to go deeper and sound flatter. I'm not saying don't buy one of these, but if you have the option of getting a custom box, just do it. I was skeptical too, but when my bass went from boomy to deep, I was so surprised, best $200 spent.

Kicker comp ubs are decent
Wonder how the 16" ported enclosure (down fire) RMS 1500 for home theatre system would be like and sound.
Get one of those spl boxes for a single driver and see if it's worth spending almost double the price
That would be fun!
Seriously thinking about getting this box, I currently have a 10" ivx skar I've had for 2 years in a sealed .72 box, but i think the coils are going.

@@DIYAudioGuy Thank you. I was just worried about them getting shocked from hitting a wire. (If that makes sense. 😊)
I wonder if you can help me. What would you recommend: the SK2X12V (Skar) or AR2X12V (Skar) for Audio Legion Gladiator Series 12 (2 at dual 2 ohms)?
According to the specs on amazon this one is slightly bigger: amzn.to/3GaSlIS So it is the one I would pick. But I don't think it will make a big difference either way.
You want to muffle the box echo and then let that muffled sound out the ports!
Have you considered testing cabs for electric bass guitar?
I have not! But that would be cool. I've always wanted to build one.
That's not unusual.
I always prefer ported to sealed.
