As I stated before this video dropped, the QBombs are good budget SPL oriented prefab boxes.
Can you do better with a custom built box? Of course but, but if you need something cheap and easy or catch these on sale, it's hard to imagine a better boom for your buck.

For those whom not aware of the box tuning, one can not tune a box without a sub to tune it to.
Not most are not aware that Qpower offers their own in house subs for which they tune these boxes from.
Most subs will play well in these and other enclosures but the tuning will very due the specs of each sub being used.
It's great to see these prefab tested and look forward to seeing more of them tested in the future

I hear you, I think there's a lot of unscientific speculation in the world of box building.
As far as I know the kerfed port is like an flared port--It reduces port noise. So it's really only useful if you're in a situation where you can't make the port opening big enough.
I'm beginning to rethink the logic of putting a corner 45 in all four corners of a box. The corner should be the strongest point. So you're reinforcing the strongest point in the enclosure. I suppose if you have air leaks in my help. But if they were truly helpful then you would put a corner of 45 and literally every corner of the box instead of just four of them.

I have owned a ported q bomb box for a 15” sub. 3.25 cu ft. Input a Rockford Fosgate P315 in it. I was amazed. The only 15 I’ve ever had. I had a ported dual 10” q bomb box for under the seat on my Ram that literally came apart. I’ve seen several come apart. The best prefab box I’ve used was a ported box from bassworx and I put a single JL 12w6v2 in it. I can’t imagine that sub in another box. Prefab- win some lose some. I’m guessing we get lucky sometimes not only with craftsmanship but also size.

@@DIYAudioGuy no, I used 2 JL 10w6 subs though. From the quality of most of the prefab Ram boxes I’m sure they’re meant for some 150 watt subs- not 600 watt subs. From all that I’ve seen separate, the subs being used were 500 watts each and up. Guessing too much force exerted on the boxes. They came apart in the middle, separating the top and bottom. Looked fine from the outside, but when bass hit it would come apart and make a slapping sound.

Plus I feel like we judge prefabs too harshly without realizing that they’re not trying to be the best or win in any SPL lanes, they’re just being there for the newcomers who may have a curiosity or don’t really mind having something like these. I bought one of these QBOMB enclosures for a 15" subwoofer a while back and it had a slot port on the side. The cutout for the sub was plenty big and the box did sound very hollow so I just added some bracing to the inside and it sounded fantastic for a Skar EVL 15 with 1500 watts going to it. I did the math on it and it was a 3cuft tuned to about 33hz. I would say if you don't know how to build a box and the specs are close to what your sub calls for, get it. Just add a couple of thick dowels going from one walls across to the opposite wall inside. That will definitely eliminate that hallow sound

Nicely done! In my experience, the Placement of the port in the enclosure, as well as the location you fire the port in the vehicle, can dramatically make the effective tuning of the enclosure play a lot differently in the vehicle and make your overall vehicle response with the subwoofer extremely different than any modeling software can predict. unless you are a wiz at using horzrep 🤓. But also something to consider is the depth behind the sub to the back wall in conjunction with the port being on the same shared back wall can affect the effective tuning as well. But I’m probably preaching the the choir for the most part. Great video though awesome content!!

But it’s very intricate and touchy. But im with you, I’m no expert either. What I think I’ve learned through all my builds has definitely help solidify the math and physics that i come up with when modeling. More importantly, what I’ve learned the most is that when I think I’ve got it all figured out and taken into consideration everything I can to predict the modeling the best, I unknowingly forget something and have to tell myself that I just didn’t get enough info and that’s why the response is not what I wanted it to be. Instead of just saying it’s a mystery. There’s always some type of math or physics behind why it does what it does, and I’m just trying to figure out all those things in my journey!!

My experience with the 2 12s huge port Q Bomb was that it's extremely loud. The box was very loud but didn't hit the lows like my custom box did. I didn't care how the box sounded overall either. It was loud, that's it. I kinda equate it to Flowmasters, they're noisy but not tuned very well.

If this is true then this box (size withstanding) is probably marketed specifically for those applications.
