@@ingridwatsup9671 you have to be so proud of him. I follow him on Twitter he’s just such a decent man. We need more sportsmanship like Michael around. He’s amazing 🤩 🥰
A little bit of history: Darts was a popular café sport in the UK. They founded the world championship darts. Phil Taylor was dominating the sport for decades. He is a legend. Then, in 2007, Raymond van Barneveld (also a Dutchie) dethroned Phil Taylor in a very tight race. Next year, however, the pressure of having to repeat the effort, became to big, and Raymond crumbled, it would stay with one championship won for him. A couple of others won the tournament, Phil got back into the saddle, and won half of them once more. But then. Came MICHAEL VAN GERWEN. Runner up in 2013, winner in 2014, 2017, and 2019 (runner up in 2020). He is the most legendary darts player in the Netherlands (and the world, I might add). Phil had 11 nine-darters in his entire career. Michael had 24 till now. Everybody that plays darts knows that it is 'easy' to throw a perfect dart. One, perfect dart. After that, it flows, the quality of throws goes up, then down, then up, then down. To throw constantly 'good' is incredibly hard to do. What also plays a major role is stress. If you know you HAVE to throw a dart proper: or lose the game, you are under so much stress: that you cant relax, cant throw properly. This is what f*cked up Raymond van Barneveld, he was playing relaxed the first time, but could not become 'zen' the second time he tried: he was thinking, worrying to much in general. But those worries are also present: in every set. Especially if you missed one already: you start to doubt, tremble a little. You have to remain 'in the zone', and totally ignore the throws the other is making, have faith in your own throw. Its as much a mental battle as a physical battle: break the spirit of the man you are playing against, and he will start to miss everything. Michael van Gerwen was in the zone for minutes in a row. His come-backs are legendary. He just wont give give up. His quality of throws is almost constant. People fear him. He is the GOAT in darts. 1:04 18 perfect darts 3:27 2 nine darters in one match 5:49 epic duel Michael vs Anderson, note how one little failure leads to him a losing a leg, getting angry, and obliterating Anderson in the next leg, this is what is meant by mental strength: if you beat Michael down: he does not give up, he does not break: he gets stronger. Any other player would crumble, and let doubt ruin a few more darts. But not van Gerwen! 8:33 vs Wade, who is very stoïc, but can only crumble under the immense pressure that van Gerwen is putting onto him: with 17 perfect darts in a row. 10:45 Young van Gerwen: winning a leg, set (and match) against.. .PHIL TAYLOR, by throwing an amazing out (164), note, that to complete a leg you need to throw the last dart into a double, mostly the ring on the outside, with rather big area's, but technically the inner bullseye is also a double (double bull). But its area is tinnny, and the pressure on van Gerwen was immense: playing against the legend himself: but he wiped him out anyway. A-Ma-Zing player.
It's a lot more difficult now to win because the competition is a lot stronger and the best players now are actually playing for one organisation. Although Phil was awithout a doubt the best layerof his time a lot of the competition still played for BDO .
You're wrong about Taylor's 9 darter tally. He threw 22 tournament 9 darters and he holds the record for most televised 9 darters wich is 11. MvG threw 24 tournament 9 darters and 7 of those were televised. They both probably threw a hell of alot more of them during their careers. I don't know if you genuinely didn't know or if you're just trying to downplay Taylor's accomplishments because you sure sound a little fanboyish.
Factually incorrect, taylor had 21 9 darters at the PDC (not including anything during bdo) with 10 being televised whilst van gerwyn has 24 during the PDC but only 7 being televised and as you know Taylor was the first to ever do 2 in one match. Curb your fanboyism.
Have some good memories of watching this with my dad on tv when Raymond van Barneveld was one of the greats. Darts is so much fun to watch! 😊 more of a European thing, and one of the major competitions comes to Rotterdam as well 😊.
Van Gerwen has the record for being the no. 1 ranked player (continously) for the longest amount of years in the history of darts. 7 years I believe where he was non stop number one. He broke nearly all records in that time. He was almost unbeatable. Won every tourament that excists. And that as a Dutchman in a British sport that has always been dominated by Brits. Another great Dutch darts player is Raymond van Barneveld. It all started with Raymond for the Dutch (at this level). And Raymond is also one of the greatest ever in darts.

Yes Francis, i agree! I would recommend Ramon Dekkers, he was superb, a real tough guy!!! Ramon Dekkers was a Dutch professional kickboxer. He was also the first foreigner to be awarded the Thai Boxer of the Year title. Wikipedia Born: September 4, 1969, Breda Died: February 27, 2013, Breda
The last opponent is Phil Taylor. He is the most succesfull proffesional darts player ever. Based on prizes not total earnings. And will probably never get beaten
So many other moments could have been in here. Like the epic battles with RVB in the world championships a few years back. Or the 132 finish to win the premier league vs taylor: ruclips.net/video/dAeiYp8GzXM/видео.html
