  • Before Monolith made Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor, they were working on an Arkham style Batman game set in the canon of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. It would have featured the nemesis system. WB canceled the project as they didn’t want it to compete with Rocksteady’s Batman Arkham games.

Well, the Batman Begins movie tie in game, despite having a lot of flaws is known to be sort of a godfather to the Arkham franchise, paving the way for that series.
So at this point, I'm not surprised that they scrapped that plans for The Dark Knight tie in game and instead, redirected towards Arkham.
With the Nemesis system, ngl I really love the concept. I absolutely do.
But on the other hand, there's also the lingering doubt slightly in my mind whether this can mess with the whole 'power fantasy' of the character especially if the character like Batman is at a really veteran/well established stage in his career.
Like for e.g. Batman at Arkham Asylum, City, Knight, is considered to be in his peak form, compared to say.... Origins.
Might make more sense to have nenemis system in the early stage of his career where he could possibly lose to a common thug and run away, whereas in Asylum, City, Knight, he'd typically mow down the common thugs with ease.
Would probably work better with the Rogues gallery, given they'd typically be bosses in a game.
But common street thugs/ruffians, it is a tricky nut to crack I think.

Ngl I miss the movie Tie-in games ghost rider and spider-man were amazing but when it comes to comic book games It is better to make something unique. Wish we had more games coming out instead of waiting for the live service games to die out *cough* suicide squad *cough*

Hard to say whether or not the cancellation would benefit anything. Let alone what the quality would end up being. Well ultimately it wouldn’t served anything revolutionary if it didn’t meant having the Arkham games as a result. It’s a super different era. And everyone has different standards wanting every Batman game or more franchises to all be connected within the same universe because of the MCU’s success. Whereas before Arkham Asylum, it was just whatever please make a good Batman game and we will be set. Had the game came out in its intended completed form, sure it would have been cool to see how it would have turned out. But it’s just another temporarily Batman tie in era. The Nolan universe wasn’t gonna stay forever. Let the past be the past. I been playing Batman video games since the retro cartoon/movie tie in generation. And there’s never been a thought in my head that we’re gonna get a Batman game that will change everything, and that universe will remain for the rest of our lives. 😂
