    I remember a theory that the first stage of the game took place in "crime alley". the place where bruce's parents were killed. In addition to the level being an alley, in the middle of the level there is a theater where Bruce's parents went before they died. when you play this same level with the villains, there's a drawing of a body on the ground.

    I have always had a weird sense that the gotham portrayed in this game is so abandoned yet so lived in. I always remember looking off to the distance outside of the playable areas and imagining that all the citizens and residents of Gotham City were asleep, the occasional window that was lit up during the night.
    The sound definitely had a huge role to play and i personally think the Tt games nailed the length of each level. They didn't feel too long but certainly not too short. I recently started playing lego marvel superheroes and damn those levels are so long, just makes you dread having to replay them in free play.
    One last thing to note, the Gotham portrayed in this game IS Gotham in my opinion. Whenever i think of Gotham i think of how it looked and sounds in this game. The Arkham games also did a very good job but lego batman just wins.

      Dude… so I didn’t get to play the console version, I had the DS version (yeah yeah, I know but at least I had more characters). And I would spend ages looking at the background, as low-res as they were (cause DS lol) and they would still nail that dark atmosphere of Gotham… I always wondered if any citizen could see Batman. Where Batman was in Gotham, how big Gotham actually was… that game really did make me a Batman fan.

    • @samlowther9487
      @samlowther9487 2 года назад +4

      @@guedem.7197 Yup they did a great job making it feel lived in, and then as you get older you understand how games are actually made and things in the background are just flat textures 😅

      @@samlowther9487 oh totally. So I got the game in a veeery legal way (R4 card lmao) and there’s cheats on it I never used em when I was a kid but I decided to play it again recently and there’s an unlimited double jump “cheat” that allows you to fly and go up to the level’s invisible wall limits and there you see how they superposed the flat textures n all. I was amazed at how creepy they made Gotham with a few pixels of flat textures… and the music too. Especially since the DS has this grainy effect to its sound, makes it creepier in its own way too. Combined together it gives you an incredible game

    This game has my favorite version of Gotham out of Any batman game because to me it's the only batman game that's been able to accurately depict Gotham and it's atmosphere, it's just amazing, the high rooftops in the air vehicle levels, the rundown and old buildings in the streets, it's just the perfect Gotham to me, and any nostalgia I have for this game just adds to that. And the music is jus chefs kiss.

    old traveler’s tales had such restraint with the presentation in lego games. you can see even in the concept art they throw at you, so much care and attention to detail was put into things that weren’t even identifiable lego, but more closely resembled the arkham games (this came first) they looked gritty, simultaneously lived in and abandoned, like you’re wandering around in an extremely high-detail diorama of gotham. only the parts that were important to the player were actually brick, which also made it easier to tell when something’s interact-able. what a great era for tt

    "It appeals to all, without heavily leaning to only one." This is what all superhero entertainment should be, or all entertainment for that matter. Walt Elias Disney believed in this mind set, the man was truly a legend. It's a shame that many try and shun this line of thinking. For there is truly no better way to make a story, then to make it for everyone.

    I think is worth mentioning that the game's setting is also heavily inspired by Batman the Animated Series and The New Batman Adventures; many of the character designs are taken from it and the title screen intro is an almost perfect recreation, I think that's also why it uses Tim Burton's ost, the show used an arrangement of it.

    Lego Batman is essentially the idealized and definitive version of the Batman character and universe in Lego form. The atmosphere of Gotham, The Batcave, the gadgets and vehicles is the Burton/Animated style. The villains are all in their traditional early-00s comic book costumes and are grouped together like the films. The Bat-family is Batman, Nightwing, Tim Drake/Robin, and Barbara Gordon/Batgirl like the Animated Series. Every bio read-up is either the traditional comic book bio or the animated series version which most of the time is better. Visually, playing this game is like reading an issue from No Man’s Land, Hush, or Bruce Wayne Fugitive since those were all contemporary stories at the time.
    It’s almost like a playable, legofied encyclopedia for Batman and his world. Everything you’d ever need to know about Batman can be learned from this game.
