There is an incredibly easy fix to this. Reveal it to the audience right at the start, invincible-style. That way the audience would get their plottwist (though rather early), can focus on Batman’s surprise being fully convinced Jason is dead AND not be called idiots by the devs for having it be way too obvious the whole time. It would also allow you to have Jason’s interactions with Barbara as an actual cutscene giving Jason much more depth.

There should’ve been some interaction between Jason and Tim. It’s mentioned in the database that Tim actually came to Batman, having deduced his identity. Since then, it’s always been my head-canon that Bruce only took him on because he hoped that Tim's detective skills would be useful in helping him find Jason. There’s no other scenario where Batman takes on another Robin while Jason is still MIA.
It's also worth mentioning that Jason's database entry specifically mentions that he deactivated his tracker when he went after Joker. Compare to Dick, who gets captured by Penguin. Batman is able to rescue him within minutes because he still has his tracker, even as a solo hero. It's another missed opportunity that Jason never reckons on-screen with the culpability he has in his own fate.

Show off the torture he went through, have joker monologue putting seeds of doubt in some nightmare sequences, and really have you just be in pain for Jason. One idea I had was instead of Jason being the Arkham Knight. An interesting idea would be to reveal that Damian Wayne, in his early 20s, could've been Arkham Knight. I think the idea of an older Damian being the Arkham Knight would've been intriguing, and maybe he became the Arkham Knight as a way to avenge his mother, Talia. Damian blames Bruce for failing to save her. Damian would've used his resources from the League of Assassins and teamed up with Scarecrow to secretly double-cross Scarecrow in his misguided revenge against his biological father. Maybe Bruce could've stopped him, and Damian could've gone down a character redemption to become the next Batman in a hypothetical Batman Beyond game?

    • @soundwavegamer2321
      @soundwavegamer2321 Месяц назад +12

That was an idea I had for this story have the Arkham Knight be Damian Wayne. If you want Jason Todd then have the Red Hood be a consultant for the Arkham Knight. Which he tries to help Bruce because he too believed Scarecrow killed Barbara with his explanation for why he was helping them being “I just wanted to do something special to prove you wrong not to get Babs killed!” and like with Nightwing you team up with him to take out Militia HQ’s. For Damian have him play with Batman, have him toy with the Dark Knight, and when he manages to get the drop on him have him leave calling Batman Detective something Ra’s would have called him to get Bruce thinking the Arkham Knight is some disciple of Ra’s. Only to then in their next encounter after a one on one boss fight he escapes with him calling him Bruce. Which would then Shock him into realizing this isn’t just some random League member, but someone who was close to Ra’s and to Talia. Then when he reveals his identity he isn’t called Damian Wayne, but Damian Al Ghul. With Damian in the fight removing Bruce’s masking and when looking at him looks at his reflection realizing that him and Bruce look a like revealing that Damian was forbidden from looking at his reflection. As Ra’s in the Arkham Verse didn’t want Damian to know who his father was so he didn’t know Bruce was his Father, and at the end of the game when Bruce his unmasked it isn’t red hood who helps Bruce, but Damian now with a modified Arkham Knight suit to look more like the Batman Beyond suit. Is this cheese? Oh most definitely, is it better then what we got? You got me I’m just some guy who just thought of something.

I honestly think arkham knight shouldve been anarky from origins. He was just a kid in origins, he rallied a large number behind him, and he not only was onto batman by calling him "just another spoiled rich kid", but also says something that could be the driving motive of the arkham knight, by suggesting that batman is the reason the city has gone to hell. Bringing the argument of batman making his own enemies to light. In arkham knight, Cash's logs state that anarky got snatched by the government. Deathstroke was taken by amanda waller, she couldve grabbed anarky too. He trains with deathstroke, rallies an army, studied batman. Batman doesnt even suggest that anarky could be the knight, b/c hes a kid that got lost in this system, and you can argue that batman failed him.

Honestly I think a good idea would’ve just been to have Jason reveal his identity to Bruce at ACE Chemicals at the beginning of the game.
Then deep dive into how that affects Bruce throughout the rest of the game (more flashbacks and such) instead of Bruce searching for his identity.
Jason is openly psychologically tormenting and torturing Batman via the fact Bruce knows it’s his fallen son throughout all of it, that’s causing the mass devastation and chaos
With Jason’s identity know by the Batfam as well you could include more interactions between him and the other members, where he challenges them over their loyalty to Batman
There should’ve been an actual fight with Jason in the game as well, where it feels like you’re fighting another Batman. Combining all the elements of before games bosses (Freeze, Deathstroke, etc.) and having Jason basically damn near know your every move

How great would it be if events played out like this..
    - Jason reveals his identity maybe 1/4 into the game like you suggest here and pushes Batman mentally with guilt
    - Scarecrow uses this to distract Batman for much of the game until the Cloudburst is ready
    - Just before the fear toxin is released and Jason has served his purpose, Scarecrow turns on him and takes Jason captive again in the asylum to cause further suffering for Jason and Batman
    - The finale of the game is Batman fighting through streets crowded with fear toxin-induced civilians, reverses the toxin with the help of Ivy, and then goes to Arkham
    - The last missions in the game is going through the familiar Asylum where it all began fighting off patients crazed by the toxin
    - In the end, Batman agrees to reveal his identity in exchange for Jason’s freedom
    - Jason sees he was wrong and Batman was always willing to do anything for him. Jason then returns to help Batman.
**In this version, let’s cut the Joker subplot and let Jason/Scarecrow take center stage. Joker was great in this, but we’ve had enough of him by this point.

I don't think Jason's reveal is as bad as people say, sure everyone saw it coming but only because we know Jason Todd comes back as Red Hood and because of the Joker tourturing Jason cutscenes, the player is obviously gonna think that if we're being shown this that means it must have some sort of story relevance, but from Batman's perspective, Jason is DEAD, he has been for years and as such he has no reason to even CONSIDER that he's even connected to the Arkham Knight, plus the fact he was trained by Batman means it's fairly reasonable no info could be found about his identity by Alfred, how do you think no one knows that Bruce Wayne is Batman?
The reveal works well for completing Bruce's arc throughout the story as well as perfectly explaining how he knows so much about his tricks, it's not meant to surprise the player because the Jason kidnapping cutscenes kinda spell it out

I had recently read the court of the owls story, which came out shortly before the game, and was 99% sure AK would be Bruce’s secret twin brother that was running the Court at the end of that story, since a lot of that story matches what we knew about Arkham Knight: knows Batman’s moves, knows who he is, is physically capable of fighting him head-on, etc. Plus, the devs straight up said ITS NOT JASON/RED HOOD and I took them at their word lmao.
Ngl was kind of disappointed they went with the Jason route, but its not like Bruce’s brother was ever set up in the series before either so Jason makes more sense for AK at the end of the day.

That way the dialogue, the audio tapes, and especially the visions of Jason's torment would've been WAY more impactful, and seemed less random. Plus it would've given Troy Baker more opportunities to flex his acting muscles more. I mean, in the one brief cutscene where Jason's unmasked, I got choked up. Why is he complaining to Scarecrow about wanting to kill Batman when he knew from the beginning that Scarecrow had no intention of doing so and he said he wanted Scarecrow to help him Batman suffer...
The biggest issue with Jason as the Arkham Knight is that Rocksteady wanted to have their cake and eat it too. They wanted to have this emotional story but rather than reveal his identity early and then delve into it as the game goes on they decide to instead have this dumb mystery. Even after his reveal they have one little conversation and, disappears and has a change of heart offscreen...like bruh.
You'd think that the mystery would at least be interesting but nope...Alfred does all the work offscreen and the mystery itself barely matters in the grand scheme of things.

That and giving him a bigger part post game would have justified the title of the game.

His identity was spoiled to me before I played the game since I got onto the Armand wagon a couple years after the series ended (counting kill the Justice League) so going in. I knew this was Jason Todd, but I wasn’t told why he wanted to kill that.
So the whole time I’m wondering “why does he want to kill Batman? If half of Gotham believes Batman killed the Joker? I see the torture went through as Joker keeps telling him Batman is to blame, and it all made sense
The mystery shouldn’t have been “who is the Arkham Knight ?” it should’ve been “Why did Jason become the Arkham Knight?

To be fair, Bruce must have thought that the Arkham Knight was Jason but given that he saw him die by the Joker's tape and the fact that the Lazarus pit was destroyed, there was no way he could have been brought back to life
Also i disagree when you say that Jason is kinda right when he says that Batman puts the mission above his family. I mean, when Barbara was kidnapped, his priority shifted to rescuing her even when Alfred said that he could go after Scarecrow and finish his plan early (not to mention he was willing to let Arkham city be destroyed to save Talia first), the reason why he didn't say anything to Robin it's because at that point the cure is in fact more important, sure, bringing Scarecrow to justice is also important but having a Jokerised Batman would be 100x worse

I knew the name but didn't know the story. You can seriously do both and it would turn out fine. A few more cutscenes representing this and it would have been fine. Would not surprise me even if that was the plan but had to cut them for time. Hence the audio logs.

Now that I think about it I find it kinda funny

  • @Crow_Rising
    @Crow_Rising 27 дней назад +4

The thing that bothers me the most about the Arkham Knight is that Batman had more than enough information to deduce his identity fairly early on into the story, but had to break character for the sake of the dramatic tension. Worse, anyone familiar with Red Hood which was going to be a big portion of the Batman fanbase to begin with is likewise connecting those dots really quickly.
A simple fix I think would have been for Batman to consider Jason early on, but not have full proof. So instead of going most of the night trying to figure out the Arkham Knight's identity, he develops the Jason hypothesis early on and spends a small period of time after that finding proof.
Additionally, rather than a cliche "I'm going to kill you!" revenge plot, I feel like it would have been more impactful if he was manipulating Batman into "sacrificing" the Bat Family for the sake of the mission, one by one converting them over to his side. First Oracle, faking her death and having her believe that Batman left her to die. Then Robin, having him believe that Batman kept what happened to Oracle a secret from him, and then finally Nightwing, perhaps in a more direct confrontation. This would leave Batman in a position in which he needs to win the Bat Family back over to his side.
This would I think require Jason to have been intending on betraying Scarecrow all along, a secret he shares only with Barbara, Tim, and Dick. His plan could be not to kill Batman or even to turn him over to Scarecrow to let him do it, but to teach Batman how it feels to be betrayed so that he may see the error in how he carries out his mission, and then prove his own superiority by being the one to take down Scarecrow with his intention for it to be permanent by putting lead in him. As Batman slowly wins the individual members of the Bat Family back over to his side, he slowly becomes more privy to Jason's plan and it becomes his goal to stop Jason before he crosses the line, all while having to also figure out a way to stop Scarecrow.

hell, if you confront the dates, up to the week before WB opening their mouth, the discussion was still on. then it died in a week, with everyone knowing.

My take on how this could have been great was to have Red Hood be his own character. Let him be the Arkham Knight’s main lieutenant. This would have made it more interesting as Batman would have easily identified Red Hood as Jason, but still have a huge mystery as to who the Arkham Knight is. My choice for the Arkham Knight would be Damian Wayne. Based on Bruce’s age I this game, Damian would be in his late teens around the time of this game. Damian actually has the motivation to take down Batman because he blames him for Talia’s death in Arkham City. It would have made for a great reveal and boss battle. The way I’d see the boss battle go down is Arkham Knight catching Bruce one on one after defeating Robin and Nightwing, then revealing that he is Bruce’s son with Talia and that he wants revenge for Talia’s death. Then it’s a tough battle as Bruce is basically fighting a younger version of himself, as Damian has trained his whole life and despite being young he’s the best fighter Bruce has ever faced. Eventually Bruce does win and eventually convinces Damian to join his side.

      - Batman never got to see Jason's body
      - In this world, there this little but important thing called Lazarus Pit

-Batman has been in Gotham for like at least like 15 years + his is old compared to the Arkham knight
-Many people know Batman’s tactics and fighting style (Ras al ghul and death stroke are examples) and he could been studying him like azrual
-That Doesn’t matter because He thought Jason was dead he didn’t find a body but all evidence pointed towers Jason being dead (if it taste like chicken and smells like chicken, it’s probably chicken)
      - a handful of people know of the Lazarus pits and the people who know can’t use them because they are guarded by IDK RA’S Al Ghul, and his followers

I think they could’ve had a good story if they had not used scarecrow as the main villain

I just hate the Joker being in this game, he has no reason to be here, Jason is literally his ace in the whole, that’s all the involvement he should have had

Is there a lore reason why he's called the Arkham Knight?
Because as far as I know, he has no relation to anything Arkham, besides the game franchise he’s in 🤷‍♂

honestly imo jason working with all batman villains is quite dumb every version of red hood showes him killing bad guys left and right and he many point is hes pissed how batman doesn't ever properly stop his enemys so jason working with them even to breck batman is kinda dumb
side note: arkham knight is a much cooler name than red hood
