There's something to be said for quality when the car looks almost completely stock, from the outside it looks as if it just rolled off the lot (excluding the Hoosiers ofc). Amazing job guys!
I (along with a bunch of friends) helped a buddy do something like this on a brand new WRX a few years ago. It took a year or so, but he made over half the money spent on aftermarket parts selling the OEM stuff at a premium on eBay/craigslist. Regardless, nice professional build.
It was straight out the dealer and into the shop, so the warranty was thrown straight out the window, lol. Heavily modifying a brand new car means you have plenty of money!
Amazing build!! I've wanted to do something fun with every BRZ I've owned but put too many miles on the car to do something this extreme 😕 How are the stock brembo brakes on the car? You guys upgraded the brakes on this car as I'm sure they are purpose racing brakes, I can't get an answer from Subaru if the upgraded Brembo brakes on the facelift / performance pack cars will fit on my 2015 BRZ series.blue with the stock 17' STI rims.
Nice work. I'll take 2 for driving on Cincinnati roads...if not the whole car, the Kevlar side panels, debris flaps, and the under trays will help immensely.
How much ground clearance does this build have? Damn, this makes me want to build something like this. A lifted off-road rally capable BRZ is my dream car.
I have a brz and love it. Everyone here turns them into street cars, I'd like to head more in this kind of direction. We have killer potholes, snow, dirt, and crazies that run us off the roads.
Super impressive build. I need to know who did the wiring harness! That QDis is such a stout idea for swapping the motor in a flash. Could you guys put me in touch with the man who made that harness?
What alignment numbers camber/toe wise you guys usually set on FR-S/BRZ rwd cars for loose grip surfaces? (ice/snow/gravel). Track guys usually up camber and put more camber front, to change grip balance to less understeery. But on yours, if my eyes don't fool me, seems there is stock-alignment-like less front camber then rear, hence my question. Also wondering if you make/sell parts individually, if they are drop-in mountable on stock cars, and if you ship internationally (eg. skid guards, skidplate and so on ..)
With the Motec system, it would be pretty easy to add something like that to the car. All we would need to do is change the suspension, tires and possibly add a little more rigidity with a sway bar or two.
Mannnn I just love RWD cars on knobbly tires with raised white lettering. Unlike most rally fans I think audi rather ruined things in the 80's with their shady-ish entry into the awd era. I mean think of it, the champions before that were Porsche's and 240z's and Lancia 037's. Don't get me wrong I like a quattro, especially the first iteration before they went crazy with the wings and spoilers, but I just don't get that excited for the last 40-odd years of understeery awd bread loafs blatting around the stages with tiny 4 cylinder engines. Could you imagine if group b and awd hadn't forever changed the sport? I know there's an r-gt class now but I simply love the idea of 993 and 997 porsche's slinging gravel sideways on big chonky tires, or 350 and 370z's, maybe an E92 bimmer with factory support and 500bhp blasting out of that sublime flat plane crank V8? All I'm getting at is I would be so, so much more excited to see the last couple decades' most exciting cars go rallying, with diverse engine and gearbox packages and real, interesting, differences in strategy seeing how the teams work on the challenges unique to their vehicles. Skoda's and Hyundai's are cool WRC cars (though the hybrid breaks my heart. electrification ruining all the cars I love for no reason), but I think modern RWD performance vehicles would be 10x better : )
Is there anywhere to find out more about the hdpe underbody you add? I'd like to add some protection to my own 86 before scca rallyx this year, but wasn't sure if it is as simple as sourcing hdpe locally and cutting to fit... Also, lol at the person for striking out NASCAR V8 and putting stock fa20 for the engine :)
Any insight you can give on the tubing used in that front structure? NASA and FIA are pretty clear on roll cage requirements, but the tubing used for that front structure looks much smaller than the roll cage structure. Where I've seen 1.75" for main roll hoops and 1.5" for cross bracing in roll cages, that front structure looks closer to 1" and maybe even smaller for some of the tubing holding up components like the lights and such. Thanks!
The front structure isn't part of the roll cage, it's just to hold the headlights and front bumper on. The chassis rails are still the core chassis strength in the front, just like the road car AFAIK. :) If you see a NASCAR they are built the same way in the front.
Johnson Long since this car will strictly see gravel stages, it’s better to allow each wheel to move more freely. If the customer wanted to do a tarmac rally, it would be fairly simple to add a strut bar.
The wheels are Method Race Wheels MR501 15"x7". We didn't lift the car, we replaced the stock suspension with Reiger Rally Suspension that has more travel.
that's one beautiful car...why did they want a sequential shifter?....also why was the ecu and wiring harness completely replaced with the motec system beside easier tuning and removeability ?
The sequential is the quickest and best transmission that is allowed in rally. We went with the Motec not only because of the points you mentioned, but it is more customizable and we can also monitor more aspects of the car.
DirtFish I understand the benefits of a sequential trans in the car but as a starter rally car as you have mentioned in previous comments isn't that a bit over kill..unless this customer didn't really care for the price tag of any one of those parts and just wanted the best of the best of everything
when you have a ton of excess money to spend on stuff, you are able to get whatever you want. of course if money was an issue then they wouldnt have went those routes
If you could convert one car into a race car, what would it be?
I would chose a civic but, any car can become a race car. A rally Camry would be sick!
@@crutch517... I'll match your camry and raise you an avalon, but if that is too easy, let's go for a lexus rc350Fsport
My 2011 forester xt 🙂
My old Silver/Black '92 SVX

Holy smokes that is one super clean build! You guys kept it simple and yet highly modified, something that is very hard to do!
Thank you!
I love how the RUclips auto captions say "applause" and "music" for the sound of the exhaust.
this might be my favourite 86/brz build i've seen so far. functionality over power and appearance. nicely done.
There's something to be said for quality when the car looks almost completely stock, from the outside it looks as if it just rolled off the lot (excluding the Hoosiers ofc). Amazing job guys!
Thank you! Our shop did an amazing job on this build. We pride ourselves on the highest quality in everything that we do.
Aye dirt fish, how'd yall make the side Kevlar protectors?
I (along with a bunch of friends) helped a buddy do something like this on a brand new WRX a few years ago. It took a year or so, but he made over half the money spent on aftermarket parts selling the OEM stuff at a premium on eBay/craigslist. Regardless, nice professional build.
Mugshot- Marley thank you!
This is a good point. If you start with a brand new car, selling off pristine body parts can recoup quite a bit of the cost of parts.
Amazing Build. One of the best I've seen.
Very cool and not cheap at all. I would want my build to be close to this
It was straight out the dealer and into the shop, so the warranty was thrown straight out the window, lol.
Heavily modifying a brand new car means you have plenty of money!
I need that front bumper 😭
AMBush Drift turbo frs with brz bumper😏
That's just the stock bumper that came on the car. You can pick one up at your local Subaru dealership.
DirtFish but can you put it on the older gen frz/brs doe
Rally Dad when?
yes you can.
This looks awesome. Would love to see more BRZs built for rally.
Agreed! There are very well-balanced cars on and off the road. We love our BRZs!
theres gonna be a ton of them in about 15-20 years when these are old and dirt cheap
The rally BRZ is my dream BRZ
this is so well done. you know they're doing it right when every step has its own trained specialist doing it.. keep it up
Thanks, Tyler!
Amazing build!! I've wanted to do something fun with every BRZ I've owned but put too many miles on the car to do something this extreme 😕 How are the stock brembo brakes on the car? Only just has this appear after 5 years 😊. Amazing detailed build and love the car
Came all the way out there from Texas to check things out there. Was so cool in person!
Wow you guys are real specialists, in the truest sense of that word.
Yea big props on the build.
Need to get myself out there for one of the schools - bucket list for me
Really enjoyed that video. Well done! Very cool to see this conversion process.
Thanks! We're glad you enjoyed it.
I found out about dirtfish because of dirt 4 game and I love it!
Can you convert my mom's 05 grand caravan 3.8L into a rally car plz?
I'm sure we could... not sure if we would want to.
This is truly one of my favorite car build review EVER
Nice work. I'll take 2 for driving on Cincinnati roads...if not the whole car, the Kevlar side panels, debris flaps, and the under trays will help immensely.
We can only imagine!
Can't wait to see this bad boy cruising in Oregon hopefully haha
I loved every second of this.
That's a bad ass build!
Beautiful! Thanks for the vid.
How much ground clearance does this build have? Damn, this makes me want to build something like this. A lifted off-road rally capable BRZ is my dream car.
It's barely higher than the stock ground clearance, but the suspension travel is longer than stock.
I have a brz and love it. Everyone here turns them into street cars, I'd like to head more in this kind of direction. We have killer potholes, snow, dirt, and crazies that run us off the roads.
Super great pimp my ride episode, really really practical
Everyone's lowering their BRZ/FRS, but a lift trumps them all. Awesome build!
Wow great job, and a great team
What size Hoosier tire spec?
Was there any type of ground clearance changes and how did you accomplish this?
hope to see it in rally
Great job guys! A cool car made cooler! Keep it up!
Thank you!
Would be nice to see a 2017 CTR conversion to a AWD and plus rally transformation
That center exhaust is a no go
Beautiful work
Thank you!
Holy shit dood. I want my brz to have that shifter so fucking bad now
If only y’all were 30 minutes west of Seattle, I’d love a job in this industry. Sick build 🤟🏼
Thank you!
What would you do to make a daily driver better for mud and rain? Tires, sure. Mud flaps? Smaller wheels? Heavy duty dampers?
Okay your fabricator is insanely talented and team ofc
Thank you!
I need to do this just to drive to work in Michigan
His first event on that beast of a car?!!! I'll be lucky to do mine on a stock brz
We don't think this car has seen a stage yet. We'll keep you posted on when it does.
Super impressive build. I need to know who did the wiring harness! That QDis is such a stout idea for swapping the motor in a flash. Could you guys put me in touch with the man who made that harness?
How many thousands of dollars will this cost me
David Chu 50-75k ballpark i would assume.
David Chu many even the seq trans is 8k
A brand new Brz is roughly 27 thousand so I’m assuming somewhere around 50-60 k
There's a GT86 Gazoo racing rally car that fits into WRC3 category.
That car is all-wheel drive. It was here a few years ago for an event.
What alignment numbers camber/toe wise you guys usually set on FR-S/BRZ rwd cars for loose grip surfaces? (ice/snow/gravel). The work you guys have done is insanely impressive. Would love to drive it! Maybe the smoking tire would like to review it :)
That would be awesome!
Awesome work guys!
Thank you!
If full rework: buy salvage frs/86, spend the 20g you just saved on an AWD conversion on top of everything else you did... now were talking.
The customer wanted the RWD.
DirtFish but the customer is ALWAYS wrong. :)
I'd love one of these with a tarmac tune... every rally car needs a tarmac tune... but anyways, guys, this was spectacular.
With the Motec system, it would be pretty easy to add something like that to the car. All we would need to do is change the suspension, tires and possibly add a little more rigidity with a sway bar or two.
Could you make a tutorial on how to figure out how to reinforce my car to do jumps like rally cars?
thats a good looking car, well done
Thank you!
Toyota already provides his GT86 as a rally car, in r3 category, and their is also FIA omologated
How much for this set up?
Shoot us an email or give us a call and we can discuss a build for you. 425-888-7715 info@dirtfish.com
Cmon give us a crude figure, will it be twice the price of a new 86?
metagen77
Probably 4x
easily 80grand
so how much does the car weigh now?
Absolute DREAM JOB!
They basically rebuilt it
Right! It makes more sense to me that they should've picked up a cheap used one 🤷♂️
Rubbersidedown2
That’s because used cars are harder to work on.
@@calvin3448 wdym? Used cars are way easier to work on. Way less electronics and stupid stuff
@@willbrust9725
Difference between used cars and old cars. Building a motor from 2015 will be more costly than building a fresh motor that’s clean.
I love you guys. I'm going once I'm old enough
Does Hoosier make a DOT gravel tire?
Any more videos of this car in action?
Not yet, the owner hasn't been able to compete in it yet.

In rallying RWD
lovely work
Thank you!
Proof that cars can look stock but actually be awesome 😄
awsome build , but question is it still road legel ? not that its important it is a specialized modified vehicle
Yes, it is! All rally cars need to be road legal, because they need to be able to transit on public roads.
6:09 ahahah its got a little pooper at the back
Where can we see this car in action?
love the build but idk about that exhaust pipe lol
Clean af!
Great work!

no strut bar?

DirtFish okay! Thx.
A AWD conversion would of been great for rally also.
Yeah I agree.
There's something that makes me cringe a little when I see a RWD rally car. I mean I guess it's all good if they just want a bit of fun.
Damn dat roof scoop +150 hp legit xd
That roof scoop is legitimately functional.
Alright, what does it do then...?
I need to know more about that tire and rim setup. I'm thinking about buying it. Any specs on that and were would be best to purchase said setup.
We sell theme here! You can give us a call and we can get you the wheels and tires. What is your bolt pattern?
Thanks to horse power academy I understood the wiring part. I hope that he is faster than me it took me hours just to rebuild my door wiring harness.
Wiring takes FOREVER! And, if one thing is wrong it could mess up everything.
Ah it's fine you just have to keep the high beams on for the car to run and turn the heater fan to 3 to get over 2500 rpm
Hahaha! Exactly!
What is the wheel demensions on this car and if it was raised? How high?
The wheels are Method Race Wheels MR501 15"x7". We didn't lift the car, we replaced the stock suspension with Reiger Rally Suspension that has more travel.
What is the size of the these beefy tires? Thank you
What class would this register itself in if it were to enter a rally competition?
In the U.S. it would be in Group 2.
how much does it cost if i wanted to send my brz (if i had one) to you guys and do the same build and would it be street legal to drive on the road?
Is this car for Open 2WD or Limited 2WD?
i need that intro music now
Any reason you started with a BRZ versus a Scion? Wouldn't it be cheaper to start with just a base Scion?
We are partnered with Subaru and the BRZ is what the customer wanted. Plus, the last time we checked, Scion was out of the game.
beautiful
Do y'all sell the carbon kevlar guards for the 2013-2016 BRZ? I'd love a set.
Those were custom made for this car, but send us an email at info@dirtfish.com and we'll see what we can do.
DirtFish I did.
i see that yall have washington state on your shirts, where in WA is your shop?
We're located in Snoqualmie, WA.
Cool! That is close to where is used to live!
I hope you also make it AWD ?
Nope, the customer wanted a RWD car to compete in.
What suspension is on this build?
how much did it cost to do the entire build? and who's raceteam?
It was over $100k and it is a private owner.
what is the exhaust setup on this car. Sounds good
It's a custom exhaust that we build in-house.
that's one beautiful car...why did they want a sequential shifter?....also why was the ecu and wiring harness completely replaced with the motec system beside easier tuning and removeability ?

Hi guys!
Do you do any kind of break-in procedure on the engine/drivetrain for these out-of-the-factory cars/components?
It's supposed to go 1000 miles before going over 4000 RPM for the FA20 engine...they went 50...oops.
How much do you charge for this service?
Why wait? Applause :)
You built a rally car for George Lopez
How much does a build like this cost?
It looks incredible. Those welds give me a big old chubby.
This is how a rally car should be, not huge with four seats!
It is a great option for a rally car!
