I remember Hollywoods as a kid: surface glamour, filthy underbelly. It was an effort getting in the gaff (young black lads, full of energy) but we were seriously on point dancers and it was good for the club, our light tripping, so they kindly let us in eventually. Violence was the fiat currency. The atmosphere was always jolly and high until the kite came down, then it became ancient medieval rituals and spilt teeth. I grew up in Bow and Stratford so when I escaped to university, I never looked back but some of my mates were all part of the Pills and Spills era. It was honestly, hard and horrible.

Thing with Roy Shaw that may be getting overlooked with regards to his perceived mood swings was that Shaw died of dementia, the onset of which could have been making issues for him at a younger age than many might believe. There are photos of Shaw walking about social events and just from these it is horribly obvious he was being ravaged by the illness (rheumy eyes, signs of incontinence, weight loss). Could Shaw have been in effect a dementia patient even at this time? Possibly. It has also been said that contrary to his fitness regimen, he was also fond of a bag of beak here and there.

My husband was in a pub in the late 80’s and he met a fella who was a painter & decorator who swore he was in a huge house in London painting a loft conversion or something like that anyway there was a room at the end of the hallway that was always locked but after the third week on the job this fella noticed the door was not actually locked but was in fact being kept closed by a hoover which had obviously fallen on its side. It seemed like a case of someone forgetting to place the vacuum hose back in its housing. I guess we’ll never know but this video really reminded me of that incident for some reason.

As for toughness and brute strength, pound for pound Shaw was probably the scariest bastard around back then. Those eyes man......jesus. And taking about 20 plus punches from a prime Lenny Mclean before he fell is mental. One of those would have put down a horse and Roy took a ton o them. If he was a 6 inches bigger hed have been unbeatable. Lenny only beat hjm due to him being half his size and age. Roy was a scary scary dude.

I would not have signed up for for half your fights let alone get in the ring with them 😂 but on a separate and serious side i was unfortunate not to meet him 😢 but I know many that have and they always said what a gentleman to be around. Just keep an eye on your mrs else you'll get a black eye 😂❤RIP mr shaw😎🙏💪👍

If not, I expect you to ask him if he truly believes shaw (as he stated in his book) knocked us out one by one till the rest ran away. I want to hear him say he believes that or he thinks shaw lied. He cannot say the fight never happened when shaw wrote and spoke about it.

The liquid bullet productionz interview with David Kelly's a belter. Why? David Kelly is a very humble man. He carries NO "big I am" persona. It should also be pointed out, unlike many other people doing podcasts, writing books, making films etc, he (along with David Cawston) actually knew Tony Tucker. Both admitt they have no knowledge of what the Rettendon murders were about. However, both men are able to give an honest & accurate account of Tony Tuckers real life character. It needs to be pointed out, in real life & according to both men, Tony Tucker was NOTHING like his portrayal in the film's. So much so, he's probably turning in his grave over his portrayal in the films.....

I did the security for the ricky hatton fight at the excel centre back in the day and roy shaw was there with his pals and even at that age his eyes were bulging at people. Another fella Dave Cornwell from east london who did a few doors around east London was a very very hard man.
