Geoff taught me the Indian technique-
don’t bother with the braves go straight to the chief
Legend of a man and unlike the stereotypes he’s associated with.
Massive respect 👌🏻👍🏼
I used to go to Matty's grappling class at the AT7 a long time ago now, Geoff had retired from teaching by then, just doing some seminars I think. I went to John Anderson's self defence striking class once or twice but I was more into grappling back then, all top lads there, John was really powerful he'd knock dust off the pads punching them.
Proper legend Geoff is. Never judge books by appearance is for sure on him. Always love a good bully hiding. He’s very aware of caging emotions to get done what’s needed. A gentleman aswell by all accounts with his own pain he used to his advantage. Another good one Ben👌excellent work pal👊❤️✌️
Geoff was the real deal, not a bully, just normal bloke who didnt put up with idiots.
Sounds like a typical squaddie. Unassuming.
Yeah, read his book and have some of his DVD's on fighting. Sensible advice, not bullshit that doesn't work in the real world
I trained under geoff achieving my 4th degree black belt in his Real Combat System. Geoff is a gentleman and one of the kindest people I have ever had the pleasure of sharing space with. He is also a legitimate fucking wrecking machine. Devastating speed, power and accuracy. He is an even greater man. We share a love of writing we both become authors and I owe alot of my success both as a author and martial artist to Geoff.
Thank you Sensei
Geoff grew up in the same area of Coventry as me and saw him on the doors of pubs and clubs in Coventry. Always got on well with him but he was the real deal and knew not to upset him ! I went a few years back to one of his talks as he had become a top writer etc, and you could see he had changed. As a writer myself I learnt a lot from Geoff as he is a good motivational speaker, and it's great to see him doing well these days.
Great comment mate thanks
I remember coventry bouncers in the 80s. They weren't happy unless they'd knocked out some lippy drunk at least once a night. Full of ego and self importance. Browns , Bug and black bat , Busters , Tamango's . Park lane ,silver Sword , even the hollyheads doormen were absolute savage bullies . No wonder they were despised .
What about studio 21? 😂
@chris425amp7 oh yeah...right next to the ring road...think I only went in there once....all the girls are slaggs and the beer tast just like piss !
Buster's goons were the worst, they just wanted to twat someone and I know of times they robbed the guy if they knocked them out.
@chris425amp7 next to the ring road i remember..only went there once .
Another great video. Having read, Watch my back, many years ago , i attented a course ran by Geoff. He was an incredible martial artist and a true gentleman.
Thanks Paul tough man Geoff
Bought Watch my Back many years ago an have read it 3or 4 times. Recommend it 👍
Great book
There's also On The Door and Bouncer. Brilliant books.
As someone who has had more fights over the last 40 years than i can remember,
it was nice to hear someone speak words about how he felt pre fight, they all rang
so true!!i always go out with the mindset that you can be attacked any moment for
no reason, always expect the unexpected and you'll always be mentally/phsically ready when
it does, it doesn't mean you'll always win,but atleast you'll be ready when it comes, best advice
i was given by one of the toughest men i ever knew, the fight is the last thing you wanna
do,but at the same time, never make it look like you don't wanna fight, let them know you're happy to fight, almost
all bullies don't really wanna fight with someone who they can't scare, someone they can't mentally defeat, the
fight wll often end before it's even begun, once they see your happy to fight, their fight usually all dies down to "you're not worth
doing time for" etc etc,it's so easy for a any weapon,wether it's a knife,gun,fist or feet,to end you,no matter
how tough you are,,the fights were i've really come unstuck, were the ones i pursued when
i should've let them go,it did'n't happen often before i seen the pattern,i soon wised up!
i'd never listened to any of geoff's stories, this won't be the last one.
So true mate most bullies feed off fear and quickly get self doubts if someone shows outwardly the right signals
Absolutely smashed it again my man...top quality 👏
Thankyou bro
As an ex martial artist, I understand and can fully relate to the pre-fight thoughts. A very good upload. Thanks.
Thankyou mate
@@enquirer2.0 Deserved.
Another great video mate keep them coming 😁 yours and Matt legg channels are all I watch these days lol
Remember geoff well, never a problem, all us lads were boxers, the lad who lost his life used to work for me in fact boxed with us in tile hill, another great lad from a boxing family, sadly lost, ive read all your books loved elephant & the twig, so true,
This post was sent to me from a pal in leamington i boxed a couple of times, well done geoff, keep them comming, 👍👏👏
Great vid mate.... I remember being glued to Geoffs book when I first read it years ago
Out of all the books i read as 16 year old reading Geoff's watch my back in 2002 really struck cord with me ,Does some great videos of self defence too and you can just see he knows what hes talking about.
100% agree mate
People who frequent pubs don’t half talk bollocks.
I enjoyed this upload. I first read ‘Watch my back’ about 25 years ago. Greatly entertaining and refreshing as Geoff seems like a gentleman. 👍
Love your stories mate great vid.
Great. Thank you
Thankyou 🙏
Geoff embodies all the discipline and ethos of what the martial arts are about
I drank in pubs without bouncers (In Dublin). Anyone coming causing trouble would have to face the whole bar. In all my years I only ever once saw trouble, a gang from another part of town thought they were messing with university students. Mistake! They never came back, despite their threats as they ran away, after meeting the concerted, and for them unexpected, ferocious resistance of a bunch of lads who valued enjoying a peaceful night out together. Meanwhile, in the pubs with bouncers, there was trouble every night.
I remember seeing his articles in the fighter magazine back in the 90s great stuff ❤
Bloody hell. Brilliant stuff.
I read that book as a wild teen
Helped me a lot
Just incredible. Total respect from me
Legendary
Top quality work as usual mate, really enjoyed that......keep on smashing it out the park mate and watch your channel grow
Thankyou bro I try with the video editing unfortunately still very amateurishish lol
I was a doorman too....for a long time.and then we get old,and no one remembers,or cares.just old men,and old stories.
You just called it and im sadder to hear it. Cheers.
@als4179 thanks brother.
Some remember hence this story. I worked the door late 90s early 00s also
@enquirer2.0 and I love your stories...really do.tales from a better time.
Spot on 👍
Great story I bet it was an interesting fight to watch. 🤛👍💯❤️
Great upload m8
Fantastic vid loved it.
Now that is quality .
Thankyou mate
This was just after Geoff had officially retired from the door, he only did it to help a friend.
Genuinely tough guy
Some efin great content ,,
So many hard men,1st time iv heard of Geoff👌🙏but a gentleman I hear, takes no bs👍👊
Brilliant video as usual so much respect for the oldskool hard men and even more because of his martial arts skills Geoff has 👍
Thankyou my friend
@@enquirer2.0 Your very welcome mate 🙂
Busters was my favoured haunt, mid - late '80's. Especially Tuesday indie/alternative night when I could make it but otherwise most weekends.
I distinctly remember Johnny A, the bouncer I just thought looked like Maurice Hope and 'no neck' Maynard but strangely don't recall Geoff!
that was awesome that brother love this story will have to have a read on geof thompson. awesome bro
Thanks for listening bro
You promise to make a vid about Geoff Thompson, and now you've delivered ...
Good call sir..Good call...
As requested thankyou mate
Not only hard as nails and a top martial artist, but clearly an intelligent bloke too based on his excellent writing.
Bravo👏
Thankyou mate
👌🏻👍🏻 quality Ben
Geoff's autobiography "watch my back" is an excellent read. Also his various self help books are good- I found that unlike a lot of those types of books, they actually work (or at least they did for me). If you like British gangster/crime films, watch Geoffs film "clubbed".
Best book I ever read
And being local, made it better
Nice to hear the mention of Noel. D....Still upsets till this day when i hear his name. Sound lad.
I actually read his book in prison I was 21, later on I came across the film Clubbed? Both great, I can relate and inspiration.
I bought an ebike here in Canada in the late fall of 2022 and didn't get much riding done before winter. It was $1500 CDN which isn't too much more than the bike in this video. It weighs 55 lbs. I did some modifications like adding fenders, better seat, shock absorber seat riser, riser for the handlebars, and a rack with bags on the back.
What the hell has buying a bike got to do with this story.I don't know what you're smoking but you should be sharing it.
We need more e bike stories …
He sounds like a real chap. Great content brother.. thank you 👌👊
Thankyou bro
Geoff was no mug. Always be weary of smaller doorman, there’s something else special about them to be there.
Always be wary of a guy whose missus is taller than him, too.
Coventry was the most dangerous city in England in those days
Mr Anderson Mr Thompson and his door crew was the most respected by punters
And
The most feared by so called wana be tough guys
Liverpool was the worst.
Let me tell you about the mean streets of Milton Keynes. My town's rougher than your town.
Was it really?
@Rannerdale "my dad's bigger than your dad" 🙄
@siok4375 I hope you know i was being sarcastic.
Plenty of big toughness under headstones
In todays world if you hurt someone like that they send a young lad with a shooter or 20 teens with knives to your home to hurt your family and record it and put it online for clout!!!!No such thing as a fighting man in todays world
I sat with Craig and he told me about that day and who 'ray' was. Would not like to be on the receiving end of any of them (Craig/Geoff/John)
Who is Ray?
Legend knew him very well top guy
Geoff is a warrior you would 100% want in your corner
Bro U NEED to put Ur voice to audible and do some of these books, than those toffs reading true crime, you've definitely got the voice buddy ❤
Mate that's very kind of you cheers man
💪💪🔥
And Coventry now a day ain’t got night life .
Geoff is as great a writer as he was fighter!
I would recomend geoff thompsons books, what I like about the way he writes is that he covered the psychological side which is totaly overlooked in other books. Most other books are just about sum muscleman beating people up,his books are different and brilliant reads you can't put down. They also give a logical analagy regarding the real use of martial arts and sometimes the lack off use. Watch my back is an awesome read.
💯
One of the best books IMO, I remember reading Watch My Back in around 2003/2004 - may have loosely based some GCSE English coursework on it 😂👌 I got a C
Lol agree mate and at least c a pass!
I've just finished reading his book watch my back where he's holding some lovely brass knuckles. Absolutely amazing read crazy situations an absolute inspiration and I absolutely adore his honesty. He's a national treasure and more real then any of these wannabe gang bangers or as I call them politicians. Phenomenal personality. God bless Geoff tompson
Wow Geoff Thompson on the bag. Faster than Bruce lee
Love this..ive read Geoff Thompson books hes written about his thrilling life, im from Rugby just outside of Coventry so i was in the thick of those violent 'Cov' days ...my old science teacher Mr Ford ..Mick Ford was mates with Thompson and did the doors with him on the side to teaching Mr Ford was/is a 3rd dan Black Belt in Taekwondo and a great boxer 6'4 big hard bastard he hung my mate 'Cookie' out the 3rd floor science room window for farting in class haha like u do 🦾
Haha class mate
Bloody hell, Jeff Thompson, I remember him👍
Is he still around?👍
Thanks Ben, in photos, Geoff doesn't look the 'type'... but he cd obviously go when he had to.
Defo can fight mate
@@enquirer2.0 No doubt! Watching him work the floor to ceiling ball, you can tell he'd hit a moving target... accurately!
Hi to the real men that used to go to Reflections... big up Noel d'arc...... coming from the . .boy.s
D'arce top lad used to look after him growing up in tile hill, sorely missed, 😔
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Glad I got out of Cov as soon as I left school. Born in Hillfields and raised close to Willenhall. Too bloody close. Glad I got out. The place has turned into a bigger shithole than it was back then.
Should've put Elton John's Saturday Nights Alright for Fighting on instead. Lol.
😂😂😂
Geoff and the pyramid system invaluable.
Top Man GT
Read watch my back and fear by Geoff Thompson truly inspiring and to the point i mean the guy was called up by Chuck (bullets dodge me)Norris to train his students ffs 😅
Read his book, very good.
Grew up in cov and left in the mid 90s. The 80s was rough in town, guaranteed fights every weekend and usually week nights too. The Burges always kicked off after the clubs shut....still, no one would say boo to the woman behind the counter of the Parson's Nose, she looked fierce as fuck 😄
One all in, 🤣
No one messed with her at the parson nose!!! Remember them days well.
I remember when wilmott brown owned the wine bar in eastenders, it got burnt down, maybe this is why.
He was a right wrong un Wilmot poor Kathy 😂
You mean the dagmar ?
Haha I forgot about poor old Kaff@@enquirer2.0
Of course I apologise @@hod2116
I became friends with Bill because our girlfriends are friends and he’s the typical Shakespearian trained theatre type actor and has bundles of character, sort of a cross between Sir Lawrence Olivier and the Withnail character played by Richard E Grant. Ten minutes after meeting him I had a neat glass of very expensive scotch in one hand and a spliff the size of a McDonalds straw in the other. Once we were comfortably pissed he showed me his collection of old English 6 foot long bows and arrows that he would hand make himself so we obviously ended up in the garden firing arrows into giant bullseyes and nearly shot each other 3 or 4 times! Fantastic night with a fantastic character. 🏹🎯🥃
Watch my back awsome book
Don't mess with Geoff.
I remember noel getting stabbed.he was a decent lad a good boxer but its no defense against a knife. Rip Noel.
And what time did you wake up from this dream,
I always go the pub for a good pint you dont fight if the beers good 😂
The advert was a secret challenge in London.....Not get stabbed
Bar stool Trumps glass everytime!!
What a great story, well told. I wet my pants just listening to it. Were the names changed to protect the innocent? I don't know a pub in Coventry called The Lion?
The red lion on Walsgrave
@@bigprob8744 I hope it's changed since, I nearly took my mum in there for a meal the other week.
@@ItsTerryTime yeh it's generally a nice pub but back in the late 80s early 90s the potters green lads and bell green would sometimes go in and get abit rowdy although it was never really a rough pub at all just the odd incidents like any pub I suppose.
JOB WELL DONE GEOFF , YOU ONLY DONE WHAT YOU HAD TO DO AND NO MORE , THE JOCK GOT OFF LIGHTLY COZ OF YA WORD AND YA KEPT IT ,MUCH LOVE LIGHT AN RESPECT ,FROM LIVERPOOL ⚔️🇬🇧⚔️
Noel gets mentioned a few times. Wondering if he's the same Noel who worked the Campbell?
That was Noel rafferty im thinking, another top lad,
Rob Jones did the door with Geoff an was head security at Owen Owen, lol hard as nails lol. Some hard bloke's can out of Coventry Tony B Dave L to many to name but if you kno you kno 😂
Got personally signed copy of"watch my back".great book !

I've got anxiety for you.
All yuh got to do is take 2 steps back & He couldn't catch yuh!
Geoff is a proper lgend.
THE REAL DEAL!
That choke was how i was taught.. untill i started training with elite level blackbelts i used to use palm to palm .. grew up training Thai boxing then got into judo can remember taking a guys back thought i new what i was doing just heard heard no no my friend arm on your bisept then squeeze.. yes and with this hand push the head forward and if hes very thick or no neck one of those guy's take a big deep breath make no space he will go to sleep.. ok master gracie no just call me me carlson yeah grappling wise submission wrestling he's the best iv trained with was old would just watch you roll .. stop you his Brazilian accent remember give him no space .. all your weight then he would demonstrate 😢 bloody hell feel like hes breaking my ribs you had a young vitor Belford arona.. paulio filio conan silvera .. just a room a small room full off killers guys that went on to be ufc and pride champions vale tudo basically no rules no gloves no rounds fight to the finish .. was a guy who worked in a bank used to come on his lunch break and train he was an absolute machine richardo liborio .. he was better than some of the guys that went on to become world champions but they new how to choke you unconscious blackbelt in judo national champion in thai boxing.. no my friend this way ok tiny little adjustments but he was different level
Knew the times ? Places? People ? 😎🇮🇪🍀
Jabba no boddah
So he hit a man who was sat down and drinking beer then kicked him in the head. Whenever I hear stories like this I always wonder why, if they're so tough, they don't become boxers and earn big money. Probably because boxers don't sit down drinking beer, waiting to be punched.
Terrors, or terrorize?
Scot or Scots...nit scotch. Scotch is a drink.
any Cov lads remember The Browns from Wood End in the 80s?
Canley i do
@@chris425amp7 they had a bit of a rep back on the day when I moved to Cov late 80s always wondered if they’re still about
